Handwritten Character Recognition Using Multiresolution Technique and Euclidean Distance Metric

In the present paper, the problem of handwritten character recognition has been tackled with multiresolution technique using discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and Euclidean distance metric (EDM). The technique has been tested and found to be more accurate and faster. Characters is classified into 26 pattern classes based on appropriate properties. Features of the handwritten character images are extracted by DWT used with appropriate level of multiresolution technique, and then each pattern class is characterized by a mean vector. Distances from input pattern vector to all the mean vectors are computed by EDM. Minimum distance determines the class membership of input pattern vector. The proposed method provides good recognition accuracy of 90% for handwritten characters even with fewer samples.

A Pseudomonas sp. strain IOCa11 exhibiting broad substrate profile for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) degradation was isolated by enrichment techniques from oil-contaminated soil. We applied genome shuffling of Pseudomonas sp. strain IOCa11 to achieve improved degradation of PAHs. The initial mutant population was generated by nitrosoguanidine treatment and population exhibiting improved phenotype was subjected to multiple round of protoplast fusion in order to allow recombination between genomes. Mutant, designated as SF-IOC11-16A, obtained after recursive protoplast fusion showed substantial improvement in ability to degrade PAHs in liquid media. It could degrade 98% DBT in 72 hours in comparison to 74% by the wild parent strain. Similar improvement in degradation of the naphthalene (NAP), phenanthrene (PHE), and benzo (α) pyrene (BAP) was also observed in shuffled strain. The shuffled strain was also able to grow at higher concentration of PAHs and degrade them efficiently. The results indicate that genome shuffling can successfully be used to improve the PAHs degradation capability of bacteria.

This review is done essentially to study results in the field of synthesis and characterization of Carbon Nanotubes (CNT’s) reinforced nanocomposite coatings using thermal sprayed coatings. CNT reinforced nanocomposite coatings produced by thermal spray process are being developed for a wide variety of applications, e.g. aerospace, automotive and sports equipment industries. It is anticipated that, if properly deposited, nanocomposite ceramic coatings could also provide improved properties like wear resistance and thermal barrier coatings. These results clearly demonstrate that the significant improvement in coating performance can be achieved by utilizing proper thermal sprayed nanocomposite coatings. Thermal sprayed nanocomposite coatings shows improvement of resistance to wear, erosion, corrosion and mechanical properties. The purpose of this paper is to review CNT reinforced nanocomposite coatings using thermal spray by various researchers.

A problem in most of the organizations is to find the best way to mature their business processes. Process maturity can make the organizations more profitable and competent for other competitors. The problem can be solved by aligning service oriented architecture (using web services) with business processes within the organization. The purpose of this paper is to design a conceptual framework for aligning business processes with the Service Oriented Architecture and then prove the framework’s validity using simulation. An organization is working in education sector and wants to integrate its multiple web applications to allow data flow from one system to another. The framework will help the organization to align business process of service oriented architecture and to easily mold their business process according to business needs. The framework’s validity will be proved by simulating the entire process using Yet Another Workflow Language (YAWL).

近年来,无线通信的需求增长非常快,特别是对高频段和高数据速率通信的需求。多输入多输出(MIMO)技术可以提高信道容量和传输可靠性,而不增加传输带宽和发射功率,这使得多端口天线阵列吸引了越来越多的研究和应用。另外,现有的多种技术制式分别工作于不同的频段上。因此,能够同时在两个或多个频段上工作的通信设备也有巨大的需求。在天线研究领域中,微带贴片天线因其诸多优点而得到广泛使用。目前,微带贴片天线已经从传统的窄带特性向宽带特性发展,从单天线的特性优化到天线阵的特性优化发展。本论文针对上述发展需求,研究设计具有低互耦特性的紧凑型微带天线阵列。本文首先对相关研究背景及意义作了阐述,然后总结了近年来使用不同方法对微带天线阵列进行去耦的研究情况。之后,阐述有关天线的基本理论和微带天线的相关理论和设计方法。然后,本文研究了中和线技术在降低微带天线阵互耦效应中的应用。在对中和线的工作机制进行分析的基础上,将中和线技术分别应用在所设计的单频带和双频带微带天线阵上。通过改变中和线的相关设计参数,在天线阵的谐振频率上S参数得到了明显的降低,从而对天线阵元间的互耦效应进行了有效抑制。最后,本文研究了U形谐振器对微带天线阵互耦效应的抑制作用。通过调整U形谐振器的尺寸,可以在天线阵的谐振频率处获得良好的去耦效果。通过使用不同尺寸的谐振器组合,可以抑制双频微带天线阵在两个谐振频率上的互耦。本文将中和线和谐振器技术分别应用于所设计的单频和双频微带天线阵,通过仿真结果的讨论对天线阵的特性进行了分析。研究结果表明,通过使用中和线技术和谐振器技术,可以成功地降低微带天线阵的互耦,提高阵列单元之间的隔离度。

A field trial comprising 3 rice varieties (NDR-359, Sarju 52, HUBR 2-1) and 4 LCC scores (≤ 2, ≤ 3, ≤ 4, ≤ 5) along with the recommended dose of N was conducted in a split plot design to calibrate the LCC for nitrogen requirement of rice. Maximum grain yields of NDR-359, Sarju 52 at LCC ≤ 5 and HUBR 2-1 at LCC ≤ 4 were found to be 47.10, 40.66 and 36.04 q/ha respectively. The critical LCC score for real time nitrogen requirement for NDR 359 and Sarju 52 was found to be ≤ 5, while for HUBR 2-1 it was ≤ 4. Agronomic and recovery efficiency of nitrogen also followed the same trend. In the functional relationship between SPAD value and LCC score, while it was linear in NDR-359 and Sarju 52, for HUBR 2-1 it was quadratic. Further a positive correlation between SPAD values and LCC score was observed in all the 3 varieties.

Thermal Effect on Vibration of Parallelogram Plate of Bi-Direction Linearly Varying Thickness

In this paper, the effect of thermal gradient on the vibration of parallelogram plate with linearly varying thickness in both direction having clamped boundary conditions on all the four edges is analyzed. Thermal effect on vibration of such plate has been taken as one-dimensional distribution in linear form only. An approximate but quiet convenient frequency equation is derived using Rayleigh-Ritz technique with a two-term deflection function. The frequencies corresponding to the first two modes of vibration of a clamped parallelogram plate have been computed for different values of aspect ratio, thermal gradient, taper constants and skew angle. The results have been presented in tabular forms. The results obtained in this study are reduced to that of unheated parallelogram plates of uniform thickness and have generally been compared with the published one.

A Rare Case of Suppurative Parotitis with Facial Nerve Palsy

Parotid mass causing facial nerve palsy is rare, and is associated with malignant tumours. Acute infection or abscess leading to facial nerve palsy is an extremely rare complication. A literature review revealed only 16 cases of facial nerve palsy associated with suppurative parotitis or parotid abscess. We present a case of deep parotid abscess which is complicated by facial nerve dysfunction.
