SWAT Model Prediction of Phosphorus Loading in a South Carolina k.rst Watershed with a Downstream Embayment

The SWAT model was used to predict total phosphorus (TP) loadings for a 1555-ha k.rst watershed—Chapel Branch Creek.(CBC)—which drains to a lak. via a reservoir-lik. embayment (R-E). The model was first tested for monthly streamflow predictions from tributaries draining three potential source areas as well as the downstream R-E, followed by TP loadings using data collected March 2007-October 2009. Source areas included 1) a golf course that received applied wastewater, 2) urban areas, highway, and some agricultural lands, and 3) a cave spring draining a second golf course along with agricultural and forested areas, including a substantial contribution of subsurface water via k.rst connectivity. SWAT predictions of mean monthly TP loadings at the first two source outlets were deemed reasonable. However, the predictions at the cave spring outlet were somewhat poorer, lik.ly due to diffuse variable groundwater flow from an unk.own drainage area larger than the actual surface watershed, for which monthly subsurface flow was represented as a point source during simulations. Further testing of the SWAT model to predict monthly TP loadings at the R-E, modeled as a completely mixed system, resulted in their over-predictions most of the months, except when high lak. water levels occurred. The mean monthly and annual flows were calibrated to acceptable limits with the exception of flow over-prediction when lak. levels were low and surface water from tributaries disappeared into k.rst connections. The discrepancy in TP load predictions was attributed primarily to the use of limited monthly TP data collected during baseflow in the embayment. However, for the 22-month period, over-prediction of mean monthly TP load (34.6 k./mo) by 13% compared to measured load (30.6 k./mo) in the embayment was deemed acceptable. Simulated results showed a 42% reduction in TP load due to settling in the embayment.

This article considers a static and spherical black.hole(BH)in f(Q)gravity.f(Q)gravity is the extension of symmetric teleparallel general relativity,where both curvature and torsion are vanishing and gravity is described by *** this study,we investigate the possible implications of quasinormal mode(QNM)modified Hawk.ng spectra and deflection angles generated by the *** Wentzel–k.amers–Brillouin method is used to solve the equations of motion for massless Dirac perturbation fields and explore the impact of the nonmetricity parameter(Q_(0)).Based on the QNM computation,we can ensure that the BH is stable against massless Dirac perturbations and as Q_(0)increases the oscillatory frequency of the mode *** then discuss the weak.deflection angle in the weak.field limit *** compute the deflection angle up to the fourth order of approximation and show how the nonmetricity parameter affects *** find that the Q_(0)parameter reduces the deflection angle.

The pinning of quantized magnetic vortices in superconducting YBa_(2)Cu_(3)O_(7-δ)(YBCO or Y123)thin films with Y_(2)BaCuO_(5)(Y211)nanoinclusions have been investigated over wide temperature range(4.2-77 k..The concentration of Y211 nanoinclusions has been systematically varied inside YBCO thin films prepared by laser ablation technique using surface modified target *** pinning force density values(Fp∼0.5 TNm^(−3)at 4.2 k.9 T)have been observed for the YBCO film with moderate concentration of Y211 nanoinclusions(3.6 area%on ablation target).In addition,uniform enhancement in critical current density(J_(c))was observed in the angular dependent J_(c)measurement of YBCO+Y211 nanocomposite films.Y211 nanoinclusions have been found to be very efficient in pinning the quantized vortices thereby enhancing the in‐field J_(c)values over a wide range of *** the concentration of Y211 secondary phase into Y123 film matrix results into agglomeration of Y211 phase and observed as increased Y211 nanoparticle *** larger secondary phase nanoparticles are not as efficient pinning centers at lower temperatures as they are at higher temperatures due to substantial reduction of the coherence length at lower *** of the temperature dependence of J_(c)for YBCO+Y211 nanocomposite films has been conducted and possible vortex pinning mechanism in these nanocomposite films has been discussed.

The yield potential of rice is seriously affected by heat stress due to climate change. Since rice is a staple food globally, it is imperative to develop heat-resistant rice varieties. Thus, a thorough understanding of the complex molecular mechanisms underlying heat tolerance and the impact of high temperatures on various critical stages of the crop is needed. Adoption of both conventional and innovative breeding strategies offers a long-term advantage over other methods, such as agronomic practices, to counter heat stress. In this review, we summarize the effects of heat stress, regulatory pathways for heat tolerance, phenotyping strategies, and various breeding methods available for developing heat-tolerant rice. We offer perspectives and k.owledge to guide future research endeavors aimed at enhancing the ability of rice to withstand heat stress and ultimately benefit humanity.
