BACKGROUND Sarcopenia is a clinical condition associated with several liver diseases and it includes non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)in its broad spectrum as steatosis,steatohepatitis and ***,the criteria to define sarcopenia are diverse,and even those established in consensus have been discussed regarding their performance in making an accurate *** To evaluate the prevalence of sarcopenia,using different methods,in patients with NAFLD,and its association with clinical-anthropometric *** This was an observational study of outpatients with *** was defined by the European Working Group Consensus on Sarcopenia in Older People of 2010(EWGSOP1)and 2018(EWGSOP2).The skeletal muscle index was used to estimate muscle mass,handgrip strength was assessed using the dynamometer and physical performance by walking a distance of four meters at usual walking *** non-invasive fibrosis scores,fibrosis-4(FIB-4)index and Aspartate aminotransferase to platelet ratio index(APRI),were used to assess the absence and presence of *** Fifty-seven individuals with NAFLD were evaluated,the mean age(SD)was 52.7(11.3)years and 75.4%were *** assessed by FIB-4 and APRI was observed in 3.7%and 16.6%of patients with NAFLD,*** diagnosis of sarcopenia was identified only by EWGSOP1 in 3.5%of NAFLD patients,and the prevalence of probable/pre-sarcopenia was higher using the EWGSOP2 consensus at 26.3%,when compared to 1.8%with *** defined by EWGSOP1,was associated with grade I steatosis,but without overweight(P0.05).EWGSOP2 showed a greater number of patients with probable sarcopenia,and who were overweight(12(80.0%)),with a higher degree of steatosis[11(73.3%)and presence of fibrosis(1(6.7%),FIB-4 and 3(20.0%),APRI]compared to EWGSOP1[1(100%),0(0.0%),0(0.0%),FIB-4 and 0(0.0%),APRI,respectively].CONCLUSION The presen

Plants hold biochemical and physiological mechanisms to withstand drought ***,depending on water deficit interval,plant rehydration relies on how it can retain growth or a positive water balance—or rarely *** this study,two species of Hymenaea,one from the Amazon and the other from the Brazilian Cerrado,were investigated for their physiological mechanism associated with growth rehydration upon short-term exposure to drought *** findings demonstrate that Hymenaea courbaril tends to invest in nitrogen to the detriment of carbon compounds,-as it is limited by lower net photosynthesis-and adjust root growth to attenuate drought stress *** contrast,Hymenaea stigonocarpa takes advantage of higher water potential and a basal rate of lower net photosynthesis to support aboveground growth under such ***,it is postulated that there are distinct ways of controlling water status and growth between *** and ***,which are determined either by the ability of the species to keep net photosynthesis at low levels of water content or by favoring the accumulation of nitrogen *** mechanisms were effective with regards to water use efficiency and thus it is reasonable to suggest that strategies are not exclusive and may work under adverse conditions,as observed in Amazon and Brazilian Cerrado ***.

Background： This study evaluated the impact of hormonal modulation at the onset of proestrus on ovarian response and uterine gene expression of beef ***： A total of 172 anestrous beef cows were assigned to one of four groups according to the treatment with estradiol cypionate（ECP） and/or equine chorionic gonadotropin（eCG） [CON（n = 43）, ECP（n = 43）, eCG（n = 44）and ECP ＋ eCG（n = 42）].Results： ECP-treated cows（ECP and ECP ＋ eCG groups） presented greater occurrence of estrus（44.6% vs. 65.4%; P = 0.01） and pregnancy per AI [47.1% vs. 33.3%; P = 0.07], but similar progesterone（P4） concentration at subsequent diestrus than cows not treated with ECP（CON and eCG groups）. Nonetheless, eCG-treated cows（eCG and ECP ＋ eCG groups） presented larger follicle at timed AI（12.6 ± 0.3 vs. 13.5 ± 0.3 mm; P = 0.03）, greater ovulation rate（96.5%vs. 82.6%; P = 0.008） and greater P4 concentration at d 6（3.9 ± 0.2 vs. 4.8 ± 0.2 ng/mL; P = 0.001） than cows not treated with eCG（CON and ECP groups）. Next, cows with a new corpus luteum 6 d after TAI were submitted to uterine biopsy procedure. Uterine fragments [CON（n = 6）, ECP（n = 6）] were analyzed by RNA-Seq and a total of 135 transcripts were differentially expressed between groups（73 genes up-regulated by ECP treatment）. Subsequently,uterine samples were analyzed by q PCR（genes associated with cell proliferation）. ECP treatment induced greater abundance of PTCH2（P = 0.07） and COL4 A1（P = 0.02）, whereas suppressed EGFR（P = 0.09） expression. Conversely, eCG treatment increased abundance of HB-EGF（P = 0.06）, ESR2（P = 0.09）, and ITGB3（P = 0.05）, whereas it reduced transcription of ESR1（P = 0.05）. Collectively, supplementation with ECP or eCG at the onset of proestrous of anestrous beef cows influenced ovarian responses, global and specific endometrial gene ***： Proestrus estradiol regulate the endometrial transcriptome, particularly stimulating proliferative activity in the endometrium.

ZSM5 as a Potential Catalyst for Glycerol Pyrolysis

Glycerol is a substance known to humankind for many years now, and among other products, in which composition it is used, are the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food, paints and varnishes REF _Ref382993082 \r \h [1]REF _Ref382993086 \r \h [6]. The abundance of its supply leads to search for new uses, whether as a plasticizer for biodegradable polymers REF _Ref382993096 \r \h [7], its transformation into other substances like propylene and derivatives or other hydrocarbons [8] [9], the production of hydrogen for energy purposes REF _Ref382993109 \r \h [10], or even direct burning, making glycerol a fuel for boilers, for example. The aim of this work was to investigate the action of the zeolite ZSM5 on glycerol fast pyrolysis at 600°C. The tests were done with a mixture of glycerol-ZSM5 recently prepared using approximately equal volumes of glycerol and the catalyst, and the effluent gases from the fast pyrolysis have been analyzed in a chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) system. Experiments showed that ZSM5 acts in the pyrolysis of glycerol leading to a large number of substances, from oxygenated products to hydrocarbons, which are part of typical compositions of naphtha, diesel and gasoline petroleum derived products.

Manganese peroxidase (MnP) is a ligninolytic enzyme that is involved in the removal of lignin from the cell wall of plants. This removal facilitates the access of hydrolytic enzymes to the carbohydrate polymers that are hydrolyzed to simple sugars, which allows the subsequent fermentation to obtain bioproducts, such as ethanol. In this work, response surface methodology (RSM) was employed to optimize the culture conditions on unexpensive substrate for MnP secretion by Trametes villosa. Three independent variables were evaluated (i.e., temperature, moisture content and pH). The crude extract containing MnP was used in the delignification experiment and it caused a reduction in lignin content for all residues tested: 35.05 ± 1.45 (%) for the sugar cane bagasse;63.11 ± 0.06 (%) for the sisal fiber and 39.61 ± 0.39 (%) for the coconut shell, under the reaction conditions tested after 4 hours of fermentation. The preliminary results exhibited the potential application of this enzyme in the removal of lignin from plant residues. However, the conditions should be evaluated and optimized for each residue type.

Two dimensional numerical simulations of flow around a rotationally oscillating circular cylinder were performed at Re = 1000. A wide range of forcing frequencies, fr, and three values of oscillation amplitudes, A, are considered. Different vortex shedding modes are observed for a fixed A at several values of fr, as well as for a fixed fr at different values of A. The 2C mode of vortex shedding was obtained in the present study. It is important to point out that this mode has not been observed by other investigators for rotationally oscillating case. Also, it is verified that this mechanism has great influence on the drag coefficient for high frequency values. Furthermore, the lift and pressure coefficients and the power spectra density are also analyzed.

Breaking Dormancy of “Tupy” Blackberry in Subtropical Conditions

In subtropical or tropical conditions, the insufficient winter chill accumulation is often a limiting factor to break the dormancy of temperate-climate species such as the blackberry, which requires using products to help break dormancy. This study evaluates the efficacy of compounds in breaking dormancy of blackberry and its consequent influence on phenology and crop yields. The experiment was conducted in S?o Manuel, State of S?o Paulo, Brazil, in the 2011/2012 production cycle. The plants used were two-year-old “Tupy” blackberry (Rubus spp.), with 0.6 × 4.0 m spacing (4.166 plants·ha-1). Pruning was performed in August, followed by the application of these treatments: control (water);hydrogen cyanamide (Dormex?);nitrogen fertilizer (Erger?) and mineral oil (Assist?). The concentrations of each compound used were: 2.0%, 4.0%, 6.0% and 8.0%. The compounds used influenced the budding, flowering and fruit harvest stages, in addition to providing increased yields depending on the concentration used. For hydrogen cyanamide the recommended concentration is of 4.2% and 5.4% for nitrogen fertilizer;doses above these concentrations may cause phytotoxic effects. For mineral oil the dose recommended is of 8.0%.

Anodic oxidation of formic acid on PdAuIr /C-Sb2O5·SnO2 electrocatalysts prepared by borohydride reduction

PdAuIr/C-Sb2O5·SnO2electrocatalysts with Pd∶Au∶Ir molar ratios of 90∶5∶5,70∶20∶10 and 50∶45∶5 were prepared by borohydride reduction *** electrocatalysts were characterized by EDX,X-ray diffraction,transmission electron microscopy and the catalytic activity toward formic acid electro-oxidation in acid medium investigated by cyclic voltammetry(CV),chroamperometry(CA)and tests on direct formic acid fuel cell(DFAFC)at 100℃.X-ray diffractograms of PdAuIr/C-Sb2O5·SnO2electrocatalysts showed the presence of Pd fcc phase,Pd-Au fcc alloys,carbon and ATO phases,while Ir phases were not *** micrographs and histograms indicated that the nanoparticles were not well dispersed on the support and some *** cyclic voltammetry and chroamperometry studies showed that PdAuIr/C-Sb2O5·SnO2(50∶45∶5)had superior performance toward formic acid electro-oxidation at 25℃compared to PdAuIr/C-Sb2O5·SnO2(70∶20∶10),PdAuIr/C-Sb2O5·SnO2(90∶5∶5)and Pd/C-Sb2O5·*** experiments in a single DFAFC also showed that all PdAuIr/C-Sb2O5·SnO2electrocatalysts exhibited higher performance for formic acid oxidation in comparison with Pd/C-Sb2O5·SnO2electrocatalysts,however PdAuIr/C-Sb2O5·SnO2(90∶5∶5)had superior *** results indicated that the addition of Au and Ir to Pd favor the electro-oxidation of formic acid,which could be attributed to the bifunctional mechanism(the presence of ATO,Au and Ir oxides species)associated to the electronic effect(Pd-Au fcc alloys).
