Objective: To evaluate the trypanocidal, leishmanicidal and cytotoxic activity of Eugenia jambolana(E. jambolana) and Eugenia uniflora(E. uniflora) extracts and ***: The products were characterized by lc–MS. Antiparasitic assays were performed and cytotoxicity was evaluated in fibroblastos. In vitro assays were performed using spectrophotometric evaluation. All assays were performed in ***: The results showed that the extracts and the tannic fraction from E. jambolana inhibited 100% of the epimastigote lines. The ethanolic extract was the most efficient in all concentrations tested against the three parasite strains. In the cytotoxicity assay the flavonoid fraction showed low toxicity. All E. uniflora samples showed cytotoxicity at the highest concentration tested, but the extract showed no toxic effect on the fibroblasts at the lowest concentration. The flavonoid and tannic fractions were more efficient against leishmania braziliensis promastigotes compared to the extract. However, the extracts and the tannic fraction were more effective against leishmania infantum strains. The effect on epimastigote cells was observed at all concentrations tested, with all E. uniflora samples. However, the samples were more effective at the highest concentration, where there was inhibition in 100% of the Trypanosoma cruzi ***: The species E. jambolana and E. uniflora presented antiparasitic activity against all tested parasite strains, indicating that these species can serve as an alternative therapy as they were efficient in the tests performed. The E. uniflora extract and the E. jambolana flavonoid fraction presented a low cytotoxicity, opening the floor for new biological studies.

Stem cells represent a promising step for the future of regenerative medicine. As they are able to differentiate into any cell type, tissue or organ, these cells are great candidates for treatments against the worst diseasesthat defy doctors and researchers around the world. Stem cells can be divided into three main groups:(1) embryonic stem cells;(2) fetal stem cells; and(3) adult stem cells. In terms of their capacity for proliferation, stem cells are also classified as totipotent, pluripotent or multipotent. Adult stem cells, also known as somatic cells, are found in various regions of the adult organism, such as bone marrow, skin, eyes, viscera and brain. They can differentiate into unipotent cells of the residing tissue, generally for the purpose of repair. These cells represent an excellent choice in regenerative medicine, every patient can be a donor of adult stem cells to provide a more customized and efficient therapy against various diseases, in other words, they allow the opportunity of autologous transplantation. But in order to start clinical trials and achieve great results, we need to understand how these cells interact with the host tissue, how they can manipulate or be manipulated by the microenvironment where they will be transplanted and for how long they can maintain their multipotent state to provide a full regeneration.

Starch Digestibility and Physicochemical and cooking Properties of Irradiated Rice Grains

This study evaluated the starch digestibility, physicochemical properties and cooking characteristics of polished rice（varieties IRGA417 and IAc202） subjected to the doses of 0（as the control）, 1, 2 and 5 k Gy of gamma radiation. The highest dose decreased the apparent amylose content, peak viscosity, water absorption and volume expansion. Irradiation increased the solid loss by 119% and 187% for IAc202 and IRGA417, respectively, when comparing the higher dose with the control. For IAc202, irradiation decreased the rapidly digestible starch and increased the slowly digestible starch（SDS） and resistant starch（RS）. IRGA417 showed an elevation of SDS and a reduction in RS. And 1 k Gy dose of gamma radiation generated the highest level of RS for both the two varieties and presented the smallest changes in other physicochemical and cooking properties.

Since its first description in 2013,robust evidence supporting the efficacy and safety of the endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty(ESG)has been on the rise.A large case series and meta-analysis report supported results up to 24 months,while some other studies already described 5-year *** associated with pharmacotherapy,the ESG may help one to achieve weight loss similar to that of surgical sleeve *** the results of the ongoing randomized trials on ESG are awaited,currently available data support the clinical use of the ESG,especially for patients who are refusing or unfit for bariatric surgery.

ZSM5 as a Potential catalyst for Glycerol Pyrolysis

Glycerol is a substance known to humankind for many years now, and among other products, in which composition it is used, are the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food, paints and varnishes REF _Ref382993082 \r \h [1]REF _Ref382993086 \r \h [6]. The abundance of its supply leads to search for new uses, whether as a plasticizer for biodegradable polymers REF _Ref382993096 \r \h [7], its transformation into other substances like propylene and derivatives or other hydrocarbons [8] [9], the production of hydrogen for energy purposes REF _Ref382993109 \r \h [10], or even direct burning, making glycerol a fuel for boilers, for example. The aim of this work was to investigate the action of the zeolite ZSM5 on glycerol fast pyrolysis at 600°c. The tests were done with a mixture of glycerol-ZSM5 recently prepared using approximately equal volumes of glycerol and the catalyst, and the effluent gases from the fast pyrolysis have been analyzed in a chromatography/mass spectrometry (Gc/MS) system. Experiments showed that ZSM5 acts in the pyrolysis of glycerol leading to a large number of substances, from oxygenated products to hydrocarbons, which are part of typical compositions of naphtha, diesel and gasoline petroleum derived products.

Up-regulation of tumor necrosis factor-a pathway survival genes and of the receptor TNFR2 in gastric cancer

BAcKGROUND Gastric carcinogenesis can be induced by chronic inflammation triggered by Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) infection. Tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-α and its receptors(TNFR1 and TNFR2) regulate important cellular processes, such as apoptosis and cell survival, and the disruption of which can lead to cancer. This signaling pathway is also modulated by microRNAs(miRNAs), altering gene *** To evaluate the mRNA and miRNAs expression involved in the TNF-α signaling pathway in gastric cancer(Gc) tissues and its *** Quantitative polymerase chain reaction(qPcR) by TaqMan? assay was used to quantify the RNA transcript levels of TNF-α signaling pathway(TNF, TNFR1,TNFR2, TRADD, TRAF2, cFlIP, NFKB1, NFKB2, cASP8, cASP3) and miRNAs that targets genes from this pathway(miR-19 a, miR-34 a, miR-103 a, miR-130 a,miR-181 c) in 30 Gc fresh tissue samples. Molecular diagnosis of H. pylori was performed by nested PcR for gene HSP60. A miRNA:mRNA interaction network was construct using cytoscape v3.1.1 from the in silico analysis performed using public *** Up-regulation of cellular survival genes as TNF, TNFR2, TRADD, TRAF2, cFlIP,and NFKB2, besides cASP8 and miR-34 a was observed in Gc tissues, whereas mediators of apoptosis such as TNFR1 and cASP3 were down-regulated. When the samples were stratified by histological type, the expression of miR-103 a and miR-130 a was significantly increased in the diffuse-type of Gc compared to the intestinal-type. However, no influence of H. pylori infection was observed on the expression levels of mRNA and miRNAs analyzed. Moreover, the miRNA:mRNA interaction network showed several interrelations between the miRNAs and their target genes, highlighting miR-19 a and miR-103 a, which has as predicted or validated target a large number of genes in the TNF-α pathway,including TNF, TNFR1, TNFR2, cFlIP, TRADD, cASP3 and *** Our findings show that cell survival genes mediated by TNF/TNFR2 binding

Old climatically-buffered infertile landscapes(OcBIls):more than harsh habitats,Atlantic Forest inselbergs can be drivers of evolutionary diversity

Granite-gneiss rock outcrop inselbergs are ancient stable ecosystems with old,climaticallybuffered infertile landscapes(OcBIls).Although inselbergs provide key ecosystem services,little is done for their conservation and,so far,a lot of their unknown evolutionary history has already been lost by human *** a fine-scale approach,here we tested if habitat and environmental filtering(the inselberg’s harshness)affect the evolutionary diversity of an Atlantic Forest inselberg in *** recorded all trees with a diameter at breast height≥5cm in 20 plots in four habitat types(total sampled area of 0.8 hectares),from highest to lowest:island,hillside,foothill,and semideciduous forest(matrix).We also collected soil samples for chemical,textural and physical soil *** fitted linear models to test the effects of soil and habitat on plotlevel metrics of phylogenetic diversity and structure,lineage diversity,phylogeneticβ-diversity,and evolutionary *** found that the upper inselberg habitats contain a distinct set of ancient,closely related,harsh-tolerant lineages,as well as a subset of lineages that persist under harsh conditions with a certain degree of water *** inferior inselberg habitats harbor higher lineage diversity than expected by *** strongly predicted evolutionary *** concluded that soil depth,slope,nutrients and texture(environmental filtering)and habitat types and topography(habitat filtering)shape the evolutionary history contained in fine-scale inselberg habitats,which should encourage the conservation of these ancient ecosystems.
