印度油菜-芥菜种植面积和产量分别占世界的25.2%和13.8%。在印度国内,油菜-芥菜的种植面积和产量分别占总油料作物的21.6%和23.2%。印度芥菜(Brassica juncea L.)在整个国家的油菜-芥菜种植中具有主导地位,其种植面积占到了80%。印度芥菜栽培品种的硫甙含量较高(8025μmol/g脱脂菜籽粕),高硫甙是国际贸易中的一个强有力的非关税壁垒,导致价格较低。目前,我国育种工作正努力降低硫甙含量,使其达到国际可接受的标准(小于30μmol/g脱脂菜籽粕)。对某一性状遗传知识的研究对育种工作的成功是必不可少的,但印度芥菜硫甙含量方面的遗传知识是比较缺乏的。本研究试图利用3个杂交组合(NUDHYJ-3×Varuna、NUDHYJ–3×RL1359和NUDHYJ-3×PCR7)的6个世代材料(P1、P2、F1、F2、BC1和BC2)研究硫甙含量的遗传规律。NUDHYJ-3是双低品系,Varuna、RL1359和PCR7是重要的印度芥菜品种。由F1平均值可知,所有3个杂交组合中,高硫甙含量对低硫甙含量具有部分显性。亲本NUDHYJ-3和3个高产品种硫甙含量至少存在4对主基因的差异。广义遗传力估计值较高(0.8.9),但狭义遗传力中等(0.4.5)。在所有3个杂交组合中,简单加性-显性模型不足以解释在不同杂交组合的不同世代硫甙性状总的遗传变异性,非等位基因互作对硫甙含量的遗传控制起主导作用。尽管加性和显性效应都很显著,但是显性效应的普遍性以及显性效应间的互作表明,早期世代对低硫甙进行选择并不是十分有效的。要想进行有效的选择,就必须推迟到较高世代,到显性效应大幅度降低的时候再进行选择。双亲杂交后至F3/F4世代的时候,再进行系谱选择,也许是选择低硫甙含量更合适的方法。

Introduction:Many of the natural resources such as soil,water and bio-diversity affected due to shift in Farm power from manual workers to livestock and thereafter to mechanical and chemical source of energy. Radiation induced reactive oxygen/nitrogen species (ROS/RNS) are reported to cause lung injuries such as pneumonitis and fibrosis which may be fatal at times. Current study is designed to analyse the radioprotective efficacy of P. hexandrum active principles (G-002M) on lungs of mice exposed to high dose of gamma irradiation (7 Gy). Cellular profiles and inflammatory cell infiltrates of irradiated bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) have shown correlations with lung pathology. Cell counts were determined in BALF of control, 7 Gy radiation exposed and radiation with G-002M pretreated mice. ROS/Nitric Oxide (NO) production was measured by 2,7?dichlorodihydrofluorescein diacetate (DCF-DA) and diaminofluorescein diacetate (DAF-2DA) through microscopy and flow cytometry respectively. Immunostaining of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in BALF cells and lung sections was also observed microscopically. iNOS ex- pression was observed in lungs by western blotting. BALF was also processed to estimate total protein, LDH, and phospholipids content. Catalase, reduced Glutathione (GSH), Glutathione reductase (GR) and lipid peroxidation were estimated in lung tissues. Pre-administration of G-002M significantly decreased radiation mediated neutrophils count in BALF of irradiated mice. ROS generation, iNOS expression, total protein, LDH and phospholipids were found less affected in G-002M pretreated group in comparison to radiation alone group. Radiation exposure to mice was found apparently leading to parenchymal fibrosis, an architectural distortion of the lung tissue with edema, infiltration of inflammatory blood cells with increased immunolabeling of iNOS. G-002M pretreatment significantly countered radiation mediated increased lipid peroxidation and decreased GR, catalase and GSH in mice. Current study demonstrates possible role of P. hexandrum (G-002M) in minimizing lung damage induced by radiation mediated ROS/RNS generation.

Effect of vaginal speculum lubrication on cervical cytology and discomfort during smear examination

AIM: To evaluate the role of lubricant gel in the cytology of a Pap smear and whether it results in an improvement in the discomfort experienced by women while undergoing Pap smear ***: A total of 151 women were analyzed in the study. After screening for inclusion criteria, a Pap smear was taken with no lubricant in all the women and the discomfort experienced was rated on a visual analogue scale. The women underwent a second Pap smear on the next visit using a lubricant gel and were again rated on a visual analogue scale for the discomfort felt. The pathologist was blinded to the fact of whether the lubricating gel was ***: The number of unsatisfactory smears in the no gel group was 3 vs 5 in the gel group, P < 0.05. However, a significant difference(P = 0.00) was observed in the visual analogue pain score in both groups, suggesting that application of lubricant gel over the speculum improves the pain experienced by women. CONCLUSION: Using a small amount of lubricant overthe speculum does not impair cervical cytology but significantly improves the discomfort experienced by women while undergoing a Pap smear.

Herbal medicines are popular natural medicines that have been used for *** use of alternative medicines continues to expand rapidly across the *** World Health Organization suggests that quality assessment of natural medicines is essential for any therapeutic or health care applications,as their therapeutic potential varies between different geographic origins,plant species,and *** of herbal medicines based on a limited number of secondary metabolites is not an ideal *** quality should be considered based on a complete metabolic profile,as their pharmacological activity is not due to a few specific secondary metabolites but rather a larger group of bioactive compounds.A holistic and integrative approach using rapid and nondestructive analytical strategies for the screening of herbal medicines is required for robust *** this study,a rapid and effective quality assessment system for geographical traceability,species,and variety-specific authenticity of the widely used natural medicines turmeric,Ocimum,and Withania somnifera was investigated using Fourier transform near-infrared(FT-NIR)spectroscopy-based metabolic *** different geographical origins of turmeric,five different Ocimum species,and three different varieties of roots and leaves of Withania somnifera were studied with the aid of machine learning *** good discrimination(R^(2)>0.98,Q^(2)>0.97,and accuracy=1.0)with sensitivity and specificity of 100%was achieved using this metabolic fingerprinting *** study demonstrated that FT-NIR-based rapid metabolic fingerprinting can be used as a robust analytical method to authenticate several important medicinal herbs.
