AIM:To evaluate the usefulness of differentially expressed proteins from colorectal cancer (CRC) tissues for differentiating cancer and normal ***:A Proteomic approach was used to identify the differentially expressed proteins between CRC and normal *** proteins were extracted using Tris buffer and thiourea lysis buffer (TLB) for extraction of aqueous soluble and membrane-associated proteins,***,namely principal component analysis (PCA) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA),were used to assess the usefulness of these proteins for identifying the cancerous state of ***:Differentially expressed proteins identified were 37 aqueous soluble proteins in Tris extracts and 24 membrane-associated proteins in TLB *** on the protein spots intensity on 2D-gel images,PCA by applying an eigenvalue > 1 was successfully used to reduce the number of principal components (PCs) into 12 and seven PCs for Tris and TLB extracts,respectively,and subsequently six PCs,respectively from both the extracts were used for *** LDA classification for Tris extract showed 82.7% of original samples were correctly classified,whereas 82.7% were correctly classified for the cross-validated *** LDA for TLB extract showed that 78.8% of original samples and 71.2% of the cross-validated samples were correctly ***:The classification of CRC tissues by PCA and LDA provided a promising distinction between normal and cancer *** methods can possibly be used for identification of potential biomarkers among the differentially expressed proteins identified.

AIM: To identify differentially expressed hydrophobic proteins in colorectal cancer. METHODS: Eighteen pairs of colorectal cancerous tissues in addition to tissues from normal mucosa were analysed. Hydrophobic proteins were extracted from the tissues, separated using 2-D gel electrophoresis and analysed using Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS/MS). Statistical analysis of the proteins was carried out in order to determine the significance of each protein to colorectal cancer (CRC) and also their relation to CRC stages, grades and patients’ gender. RESULTS: Thirteen differentially expressed proteins which were expressed abundantly in either cancerous or normal tissues were identified. A number of these proteins were found to relate strongly with a particular stage or grade of CRC. In addition, the association of these proteins with patient gender also appeared to be ***: Stomatin-like protein 2 was found to be a promising biomarker for CRC, especially in female patients. The differentially expressed proteins identified were associated with CRC and may act as drug target candidates.

Background: Prospective analysis of 500 cases of vaginal discharge in tertiary health centre of Punjab. Objective: To study the prevalence of Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in 500 outpatient of 15 - 49 years age group with vaginal discharge and to evaluate the various factors influencing pattern of STIs. Method: All cases were subjected to cervical cytology, HIV ELISA, rapid plasma reagen (RPR) test for syphilis and Gram’s staining, Giemsa staining and wet mount study of vaginal discharge. Results: Prevalence of STIs was found to be 58% and majority of infection was caused by G. vaginalis, Candida and Trichomonas. Pap smear showed koilocytosis in 5.6%, mild dysplasia in 1.8% and carcinoma cervix in 1.2% cases. Conclusion: Vaginal discharge is a common gynaecological complaint and STIs are significant cause of vaginal discharge.

In March 2020,the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus disease(COVID-19)outbreak as a pandemic due to its uncontrolled global *** transcription polymerase chain reaction is a laboratory test that is widely used for the diagnosis of this deadly ***,the limited availability of testing kits and qualified staff and the drastically increasing number of cases have hampered massive *** handle COVID19 testing problems,we apply the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence to achieve self-adaptive,secure,and fast resource allocation,real-time tracking,remote screening,and patient *** addition,we implement a cloud platform for efficient spectrum ***,we propose a cloudbased intelligent system for remote COVID-19 screening using cognitiveradio-based Internet of Things and deep ***,a deep learning technique recognizes radiographic patterns in chest computed tomography(CT)*** this end,contrast-limited adaptive histogram equalization is applied to an input CT scan followed by bilateral filtering to enhance the spatial *** image quality assessment of the CT scan is performed using the blind/referenceless image spatial quality ***,a deep transfer learning model,VGG-16,is trained to diagnose a suspected CT scan as either COVID-19 positive or *** results demonstrate that the proposed VGG-16 model outperforms existing COVID-19 screening models regarding accuracy,sensitivity,and *** results obtained from the proposed system can be verified by doctors and sent to remote places through the Internet.
