We have investigated the effect of inclusion of two transition metal ions (TMI) on structure and optical properties of borate glass system having composition xMnO2 – yZnO – (100 – x – y) B2O3 (9 ≤ x ≤ 12, 36 ≤y ≤ 48) prepared by melt quenched route. Thermal study by using a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) reveals that the glass transition temperature (Tg) and crystallization temperature (Tc) of the glasses increases with the increase of borate content in the system. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra indicate that inclusion of TMI produces BO3 and BO4 structural units by breaking the boroxol (B3O6) ring. The optical band gap energy estimated from ultraviolet-visible spectra shows a decreasing tendency when TMI are incorporated in the borate structure.

Objective: To explore the antibacterial activity of Elaeocarpus floribundus fruits aqueous extracts against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) clinical isolates. Methods: The fresh olive fruits were collected, dried and milled in order to prepare aqueous extracts of olive seed and olive mesocarp-epicarp. The extracts were tested against clinical isolates of MRSA by agar well diffusion method, and the diameter of inhibition zone was recorded, and antibacterial capacity of the extracts (AU/mL) was determined. Results: The MRSA isolates were sensitive to aqueous extract of olive mesocarp-epicarp with diameter of inhibition zone ranging from (11.670 ± 0.577) to (15.330 ± 0.577) mm;the olive aqueous seed extract had no anti-MRSA activity. The antibacterial capacity of the extracts against the tested MRSA isolates ranged from 733.33 to 800 AU/mL. Conclusions: The olive fruits can be used as a new source of plant based non-antibiotic biotherapeutic agents for the treatment of MRSA infection.

Sorghum is a staple food grain in many semi-arid and tropic areas of the world, because of its good adaptation to hard environments and its good yield of production. Among important biochemical components for sorghum processing are levels of starch and starch depolymerizing enzymes. Due to presence of high amount of starch （56%-73%）, sorghum could be the good candidate for manufacturing of expanded snacks. The effect of various extrusion process parameters on structural and functional properties of extruded snacks prepared using three selected varieties of sorghum including SPV 1411 （Parbhani moti） and SPV 1595 （Parbhani jyoti）（newly developed varieties） and M-35-1 （Maldandi） were investigated in this study. Sorghum flour of different particle size viz. 2, 0.84 and 0.49 mm, was subjected to different extrusion processing conditions： feed moisture content （16%-24%）, die temperature （110-150 ~C）, screw speed （150-270 rpm） and feed rate （50-120 g min^-1）. The feed moisture and die temperature （process variables） showed significant effect on the physical properties. This process parameter also increased dietary fibre with decrease in the content of tannins. Box-behnken design was successfully used to show a relationship between extrusion processing conditions and physical properties of extrudates. The extrudates obtained using SPV 141 l, a variety of sorghum, showed significant results in all attributes compared to SPV 1595 and M-35-1, at feed moisture 22%, die temperature 130℃ and screw speed 210 rpm with 90% overall acceptability.

Prevalence of Multidrug Resistant Enterococci in a Tertiary Care Hospital in India: A Growing Threat

Introduction: Enterococci are members of the healthy human intestinal flora, but are also leading causes of highly antibiotic-resistant infections. Serious enterococcal infections are often difficult to treat since the organisms have a tremendous capacity to acquire resistance to penicillin, high concentration of aminoglycoside & vancomycin. Careful review of in vitro susceptibility data is required to treat infections caused by MDR Enterococci. Therefore we conducted the study to find out prevalence of MDR Enterococci. Aims & Objectives: To study the prevalence of Vancomycin resistance, High Level Streptomycin Resistance (HLSR) & High Level Gentamicin Resistance (HLGR) in different enterococcal isolates. Materials & Methods: Total 180 enterococcal isolates were studied. Identification was done by conventional biochemical methods. Antibiotic susceptibility testing was done by Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method on Mueller–Hinton agar and results were interpreted as per CLSI guidelines. HLSR & HLGR was determined by disc diffusion method using high level Gentamicin disc (120 μg) & Streptomycin (300 μg) discs. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) determination for Vancomycin was done by vancomycin E test strips. Results: Total 180 entetococcal isolates were studied. E. faecalis was 60%, E. faecium was 32.2%, E. durans and E. raffinosus were 4.4% & 3.3% respectively. Enterococcus fecium showed resistance in high percentage as compared to E. faecalis. 15 isolates were found to be vancomycin resistant. Conclusion: Resistance to aminoglycoside is of great concern. Regular screening of enterococcal isolates for vancomycin resistance detection should be implemented. It is very important to implement infection control measures, screening of health care workers, surveillance cultures in intensive care units which can control spread of multidrug resistant enterococci.

Non-conventional feed ingredients are receiving more interest in their ability to increase farming effi-ciency,sustainability and animal *** objective of this study was to determine the optimal rate of inclusion level of the full-fat black soldier fly larvae(BSFL)in broiler diets and to evaluate their impact on performance,nutrient digestibility,and the immune system(blood cells and intraepithelial lymphocytes).A total of 400 male day-old Ross 308 broilers were randomly assigned to 5 treatment groups with 8 replicates *** inclusion levels of full-fat BSFL were investigated across starter(0,2.5%,5%,7.5%and 10%),grower and finisher diets(0,5%,10%,15%and 20%).All diets were formulated based on digestible amino acid values according to the Aviagen(2016)recommendations.A polynomial regression at different degrees was performed to analyse broiler performance parameters(body weight,body weight gain,feed intake,and feed conversion ratio),nutrient digestibility,and blood cell *** lymphocyte population data was analysed performing univariate linear *** the entire experimental period(from 2 to 42 d),BSFL inclusion levels decreased the feed conversion ratio by 10%in broilers that received 20%BSFL in their diets(P<0.05).Lymphocytes and white blood cell count decreased linearly by 47.7%and 35.9%,respectively,with up to 20%BSFL inclusion(P<0.001).A 4-fold decrease in CD3+T lymphocytes and a 9.7-fold decrease of CD3+CD8+intestinal cytotoxic T lymphocytes occurred in broilers fed 20%BSFL compared to the control *** findings suggest that the inclusion of BSFL can improve broiler performance and potentially reduce immune response energy expenditure in birds fed 20%BSFL for 42 d.

Steady two dimensional MHD stagnation point flow of a power law fluid over a stretching surface is investigated when the surface is stretched in its own plane with a velocity proportional to the distance from the stagnation point. The fluid impinges on the surface is considered orthogonally. Numerical and analytical solutions are obtained for different cases.

The present research work concerns about the hydrodynamic behaviors of the open net offshore fish cages of single,double and 4-cage systems subjected to regular sinusoidal *** open net semisubmersible rigid cage is square in shape and analyzed numerically using ANSYS AQWA *** and time domain analyses are carried out for each *** hydrodynamic parameters such as added mass,radiation potential damping,motion responses and mooring line tensions are considered as performance indicators to conclude as the best arrangements among three different *** single cage and windward side of all cages exhibit identical performance in all hydrodynamic *** leeward side of each cage shows lesser parametric values than the windward side *** on the performance indicators,it is concluded that the grid system containing four cage arrangements provides better performance than three other cage *** experimental model of 1∶75 scale is fabricated and wave flume studies are conducted to validate the present numerical *** cage is placed at a water depth of 55 cm and subjected to wave heights of 12 cm and 14 cm with wave periods ranging from 0.8 s to 2.2 s with an interval of 0.2 s are *** same wave flume boundary conditions are adopted for numerical simulations and results are in good agreement with experimental work results.

Wave Trapping by Dual Porous Barriers Near a Wall in the Presence of Bottom Undulation

Trapping of oblique surface gravity waves by dual porous barriers near a wall is studied in the presence of step type varying bottom bed that is connected on both sides by water of uniform depths. The porous barriers are assumed to be fixed at a certain distance in front of a vertical rigid wall. Using linear water wave theory and Darcy's law for flow past porous structure, the physical problem is converted into a boundary value problem. Using eigenfunction expansion in the uniform bottom bed region and modified mild-slope equation in the varying bottom bed region, the mathematical problem is handled for solution. Moreover, certain jump conditions are used to account for mass conservation at slope discontinuities in the bottom bed profile. To understand the effect of dual porous barriers in creating tranquility zone and minimum load on the sea wall, reflection coefficient, wave forces acting on the barrier and the wall, and surface wave elevation are computed and analyzed for different values of depth ratio, porous-effect parameter, incident wave angle, gap between the barriers and wall and slope length of undulated bottom. The study reveals that with moderate porosity and suitable gap between barriers and sea wall, using dual barriers an effective wave trapping system can be developed which will exert less wave force on the barriers and the rigid wall. The proposed wave trapping system is likely to be of immense help for protecting various facilities/infrastructures in coastal environment.

Due to the continuous rising demand of handheld devices like iPods, mobile, tablets;specific applications like biomedical applications like pacemakers, hearing aid machines and space applications which require stable digital systems with low power consumptions are required. As a main part in digital system the SRAM (Static Random Access Memory) should have low power consumption and stability. As we are continuously moving towards scaling for the last two decades the effect of this is process variations which have severe effect on stability, performance. Reducing the supply voltage to sub-threshold region, which helps in reducing the power consumption to an extent but side by side it raises the issue of the stability of the memory. Static Noise Margin of SRAM cell enforces great challenges to the sub threshold SRAM design. In this paper we have analyzed the cell stability of 9T SRAM Cell at various processes. The cell stability is checked at deep submicron (DSM) technology. In this paper we have analyzed the effect of temperature and supply voltage (Vdd) on the stability parameters of SRAM which is Static Noise Margin (SNM), Write Margin (WM) and Read Current. The effect has been observed at various process corners at 45 nm technology. The temperature has a significant effect on stability along with the Vdd. The Cell has been working efficiently at all process corners and has 50% more SNM from conventional 6T SRAM and 30% more WM from conventional 6T SRAM cell.
