As one of the most important and essential macronutrients next to nitrogen,phosphorus(P)is important for plant development,but it is the least mobile nutrient element in plant and soil.Globally,P is mined from geological sediments and added to agricultural soils so as to meet the critical requirements of crop plants for agronomic productivity.Phosphorus exists in soil in both organic and inorganic forms.The various inorganic forms of the element in soil are salts with calcium,iron,and aluminum,whereas the organic forms come from decaying vegetation and microbial residue.There is a huge diversity of plant microbiomes(epiphytic,endophytic,and rhizospheric)and soil microbiomes that have the capability to solubilize the insoluble P and mak. it available to plant.The main mechanism for the solubilization of inorganic P is by the production of organic acids,which lowers soil pH,or by the production of acid and alk.line phosphatases,which causes the mineralization of organic P.The P-solubilizing and-mobilizing microorganisms belong to all three domains,comprising archaea,bacteria,and euk.rya.The strains belonging to the genera Arthrobacter,Bacillus,Burk.olderia,Natrinema,Pseudomonas,Rhizobium,and Serratia have been reported as efficient and potential P solubilizers.The use of P solubilizers,alone or in combination with other plant growth-promoting microbes as an eco-friendly microbial consortium,could increase the P uptak. of crops,increasing their yields for agricultural and environmental sustainability.

Interpretation of water quality parameters for Villages of Sanganer Tehsil, by using Multivariate Statistical analysis

In this study, the factor analysis techniques is applied to water quality data sets obtained from the Sanganer Tehsil, Jaipur District, Rajasthan (India). The data obtained were standardized and subjected to principal components analysis (PCA) extraction to simplifying its interpretation and to define the parameters responsible for the main variability in water quality for Sanganer Tehsil in Jaipur District. The PCA analysis resulted in two factors explaining more than 94.5% of the total variation in water quality data set. The first factor indicates the variation in water quality is due to anthropogenic sources and second factor shows variation in water quality due to organic sources that are tak.ng place in the system. Finally the results of PCA reflect a good look.on the water quality monitoring and interpretation of the surface water.

BACk.ROUNDMalnutrition affects 40%-90% of patients with cirrhosis of the liver. L3 sk.letalmuscle index (L3SMI) is presently accepted as the most objective and quantitativemeasure available for sarcopenia, a surrogate mark.r of malnutrition. L3SMIapplication is, however, limited by non-availability of computed tomographyscanning in remote areas, cost, need for extensive training, and the risk.ofexposure to radiation. Therefore, an alternative dependable measure with wideravailability is needed. Malnutrition causes sarcopenia not only in sk.letal musclesbut also in other muscular structures such as the psoas muscle, diaphragm andtongue. We therefore hypothesised that the tongue, being easily accessible forinspection and for measurement of thick.ess using ultrasonography, may be usedto document sarcopenia.AIMTo measure and compare tongue thick.ess in healthy individuals and in patientswith cirrhosis of the liver and to study its correlation with conventionalprognostic scores for patients with cirrhosis of the liver.METHODSTongue thick.ess was measured using ultrasonography. One hundred twentysubjects of either gender aged 18 to 65 years were studied, with 30 subjects in eachgroup. The tongue thick.ess was compared between groups based on “ChildTurcotte Pugh” (CTP) scores. The correlations between measured tonguethick.ess and “Model for end stage liver disease” (MELD) score and between age and measured tongue thick.ess were also assessed.RESULTSMean tongue thick.ess (mean ± SD) in patients with CTP class A, B and C was4.39 ± 0.39 cm, 4.19 ± 0.53 cm, and 3.87 ± 0.42, respectively, and was 4.33 ± 0.49 cmin normal healthy individuals. Aneurysmal Right Coronary Artery with Fistula to the Coronary Sinus: A Case Report

Right coronary artery (RCA) communicating to coronary sinus (CS) resulting in aneurysmal dilatation of RCA is a rare congenital anomaly, usually presenting late with complication of left to right shunt and volume overload. We report a case of a 53 years old female presenting with dyspnea on exertion, orthopnea and angina. Echocardiography and computed tomography are suggestive of a fistulous communication of RCA to CS with aneurysm of RCA. Patient was treated surgically and is asymptomatic after three years of follow up.

Erratic rainfall often results in intermittent drought and/or waterlogging and limits maize(Zea mays L.)productivity in many parts of the Asian tropics.Developing climate-resilient maize germplasm possessing tolerance to these k.y abiotic stresses without a yield penalty under optimal growing conditions is a challenge for breeders work.ng in stress-vulnerable agro-ecologies in the region.Breeding stress-resilient maize for rainfed stress-prone ecologies is identified as one of the priority areas for CIMMYT-Asia maize program.We applied rapid cycle genomic selection(RCGS)on two multiparent yellow synthetic populations(MYS-1 and MYS-2)to improve grain yield simultaneously under drought and waterlogging conditions using genomic-estimated breeding values(GEBVs).Also,the populations were simultaneously advanced using recurrent phenotypic selection(PS)by exposing them to managed drought and waterlogging and intermating tolerant plants from the two selection environments.Selection cycles per se(C1,C2,and C3)of the two populations developed using RCGS and PS approach and their test-cross progenies were evaluated separately in multilocation trials under managed drought,waterlogging,and optimal moisture conditions.Significant genetic gains were observed with both GS and PS,except with PS in MYS-2 under drought and with GS in MYS-1 under waterlogging.Realized genetic gains from GS were relatively higher under drought conditions(110 and 135 k. ha^(-1) year^(-1))compared to waterlogging(38 and 113 k. ha^(-1) year^(-1))in both MYS-1 and MYS-2,respectively.However,under waterlogging stress PS showed at par or better than GS as gain per year with PS was 80 and 90 k. ha^(-1),whereas with GS it was 90 and 43 k. ha^(-1) for MYS-1 and MYS-2,respectively.Our findings suggested that careful constitution of a multiparent population by involving trait donors for targeted stresses,along with elite highyielding parents from diverse genetic back.round,and its improvement using RCGS is an effective breeding approach to build multiple stress

Preoperative therapy in locally advanced esophageal cancer

Esophageal cancer is an aggressive malignancy associated with dismal treatment outcomes. Presence of two distinct histopathological types distinguishes it from other gastrointestinal tract malignancies. Surgery is the cornerstone of treatment in locally advanced esophageal cancer(T2 or greater or node positive); however, a high rate of disease recurrence(systemic and loco-regional) and poor survival justifies a continued search for optimal therapy. Various combinations of multimodality treatment(preoperative/perioperative, or postoperative; radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or chemoradiotherapy) are being explored to lower disease recurrence and improve survival. Preoperative therapy followed by surgery is presently considered the standard of care in resectable locally advanced esophageal cancer as postoperative treatment may not be feasible for all the patients due to the morbidity of esophagectomy and prolonged recovery time limiting the tolerance of patient. There are wide variations in the preoperative therapy practiced across the centres depending upon the institutional practices, availability of facilities and personal experiences. There is paucity of literature to standardize the preoperative therapy. Broadly, chemoradiotherapy is the preferred neo-adjuvant modality in western countries whereas chemotherapy alone is considered optimal in the far East. The present review highlights the significant studies to assist in opting for the best evidence based preoperative therapy(radiotherapy, chemotherapy or chemoradiotherapy) for locally advanced esophageal cancer.

Intraoperative blood loss in orthotopic liver transplantation:The predictive factors

Liver transplantation has been associated with massive blood loss and considerable transfusion requirements. Bleeding in orthotopic liver transplantation is multifactorial. Technical difficulties inherent to this complex surgical procedure and pre operative derangements of the primary and secondary coagulation system are thought to be the principal causes of perioperative hemorrhage. Intraoperative practices such as massive fluid resuscitation and resulting hypothermia and hypocalcemia secondary to citrate toxicity further aggravate the preexisting coagulopathy and worsen the perioperative bleeding. Excessive blood loss and transfusion during orthotopic liver transplant are correlated with diminished graft survival and increased septic episodes and prolonged ICU stay. With improvements in surgical sk.lls, anesthetic technique, graft preservation, use of intraoperative cell savers and overall perioperative management, orthotopic liver transplant is now associated with decreased intra operative blood losses. The purpose of this review is to discuss the risk.factors predictive of increased intra operative bleeding in patients undergoing orthotopic liver transplant.

Adansonia digitata L.(Malvaceae) is commonly k.own as baobab tree native to Africa.Baobab is a multi-purpose tree which offers protection and provides food,clothing and medicine as well as raw material for many useful items.The fruit pulp,seeds,leaves,flowers.roots,and bark.of baobab are edible and they have been studied by scientists for their useful properties.The fruit pulp have very high vitamin C.calcium,phosphorus,carbohydrates,fibers,potassium,proteins and lipids content,which can be used in seasoning as an appetizer and also mak. juices.Seeds contain appreciable quantities of phosphorus,magnesium,zinc,sodium,iron,manganese,whereas they have high levels of lysine,thiamine,calcium and iron.Baobab has numerous biological properties including antimicrobial,anti-malarial,diarrhoea,anaemia,asthma,antiviral,anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory activities amongst others.Phytochemical investigation revealed the presence of flavonoids.***.amino acids,fatty acids,vitamins and minerals.The review summarizes the information on various aspects of traditional information,taxonomic description,medicinal properties and importantly nutritional value.
