Tectonic control on the drainage system in a piedmont region in tectonically active eastern Himalayas

The impact ofneotectonic activity on drainage system has been studied in a large alluvial fan in the eastern Himalayan piedmont area between the Mal River and the Murti River. Two distinct E-W lineaments passing through this area had been identified by Nakata （1972, 1989） as active faults. The northern lineament manifested as Matiali scarp and the southern one manifested as Chalsa scarp represent the ramp anticlines over two blind faults, probably the Main Boundary Thrust （MBT） and the Himalayan Frontal Thrust （HFT）, respectively. The fan surface is folded into two antiforms with a synform in between. These folds are interpreted as fault propagation folds over the two north dipping blind thrusts. Two lineaments trending NNE-SSW and nearly N-S, respec- tively, are identified, and parts of present day courses of the Murti and Neora Rivers follow them. These lineaments are named as Murti and Neora lineaments and are interpreted to represent a conjugate set of normal faults. The rivers have changed their courses by the influence of these normal faults along the Murti and Neora lineaments and their profiles show knick points where they cross E-W thrusts. The overall drainage pattern is changed from radial pattern in north of the Matiali scarp to a subparallel one in south due to these conjugate normal faults. The interfluve area between these two rivers is uplifted as a result of vertical movements on the above mentioned faults. Four major terraces and some minor terraces are present along the major river valleys and these are formed due to episodic upliftment of the ground and subsequent down- cutting of the rivers. The uppermost terrace shows a northerly slope north of the Chalsa scarp as a result of folding mentioned above. But rivers on this terrace form incised channels keeping their flow southerly suggestingthat they are antecedent to the folding and their downcutting kept pace with the tectonism.

The popularity of traditional fermented food products is based on their *** addition of a starter brings consistent,desirable,and predictable food changes with improved nutritive,functional,and sensory *** addition of a mixture of plant residues as a starter or source of microbes is an age-old practice to prepare traditional fermented food and beverages,and most of the reported data on traditional foods were based on the analysis of the fnal *** contribution of an individual starter component(plant residue)is not experimentally substantiated for any traditional fermented food,but this data are very essential for the formulation of an efective *** this study,Asparagus racemosus,which used as a common ingredient of starter for preparation of rice fermented food in the Indian sub-continent,was used as a starter for the preparation of rice fermented food under laboratory scale,and its microbial and nutrient profle was *** fermented product was a good source of lactic acid bacteria,Bifdobacterium sp.,yeast,*** food product was acidic and enriched with lactic acid and acetic acid with titratable acidity of 0.65%.The content of protein,fat,minerals,and vitamins(water-soluble)was considerably *** notably,oligosaccharide(G3-matotriose),unsaturated fatty acids(ω3,ω6,ω7,andω9),and a pool of essential and non-essential amino acids were enriched in the newly formulated ***,the herbal starter-based rice fermented food would provide important macro-and *** could also deliver large numbers of active microorganisms for the sustainability of ***,the selected plant part conferred its suitability as an efective starter for the preparation of healthier rice-based food products.

Promotion is an essential element in the marketing mix. It is used by businesses to inform, influence and persuade customers to adopt the products and services they offer. Without promotion, business would be stagnant and lack substantial growth because the brands would have low visibility in the market. Moreover, today’s vast and assorted markets comprise of customers with different needs and varied behavior. So it is rarely possible for companies to satisfy all customers by treating them alike. Thus there arises a need to divide the market into segments having customers with similar traits/characteristics. After identifying appropriate market segments, firms can design differentiated promotional campaigns for each segment. At the same time there can be a mass market promotional campaign that reaches different segments with a fixed spectrum. Also since promotional effort resources are limited, one must use them judiciously. In this paper, we formulate mathematical programming problem under repeat purchase scenario, which optimally allocates mass promotional effort resources and differentiated promotional effort resources across the segments dynamically in order to maximize the overall sales obtained from multiple products of a product line under budgetary and minimum sales aspiration level constraint on each product under consideration in each segment. The planning horizon is divided into multi periods, the adoption pattern of each product in each segment is observed in every subinterval and accordingly promotional effort allocations are determined for the next period till we reach the end of planning period. The optimization model has been further extended to incorporate minimum aspiration level constraints on total sales for each product under consideration from all the segments taken together. The non linear programming problem so formulated is solved using differential evolution approach. A numerical example has been discussed to illustrate applicability of the

Recovery of Iron Values from Waste Manganiferous Iron Ore Fines for Pellet Making

A large volume of overburden and mine wastes is generated during the extraction and beneficiation of the low grade ores. The waste low grade manganiferous iron ore fine from southern part of India was studied for recovery of iron values. The chemical assay of the sample is 52.36% Fe, 4.75% Mn, 8.5% SiO2 and 2.82% Al2O3. The characterization study of the sample indicates the presence of microplaty hematite, goethite, pyrolusite, cryptomelane with minor amount of quartz and kaolinite. The beneficiation study of the sample does not respond to the conventional route of desliming the ground feed followed by gravity separation and magnetic separation. Therefore, an alternative technique of reduction roasting using a producer gas was attempted at different conditions. The characterization of roasted product reveals the phase transformation to magnetite and microplaty magnetite. The low intensity magnetic separation conducted with the roasted products generated at optimal condition shows that 70% concentrate having 64.5% Fe and 1.87% Mn could be produced. The high manganese in the concentrate works as an additive for making pellet with enhancement in pellet strength and drop in reducibility. Utilization of mines waste has significant impact on mineral resources and environmental hazard.

Remote Sensing (RS) and geographic information system (GIS) are now very essential tools for efficient planning and management and handling a range of data simultaneously in a time- and cost-efficient manner for targeting of groundwater, which assists in measuring, monitoring, and conserving groundwater resources. Survey of India toposheets, LISS-III and CARTOSAT DEM satellite imageries are used to prepare various thematic layers viz., geology, slope, lineament, drainage, and geomorphology, and were transformed to raster data using feature to raster conversion tool in ArcGIS spatial analysis, then we reclassify each raster map using reclassify tools. By using weight overlay analysis, each weighted thematic layer is statistically computed to get the ground water potential zones. Then, five different groundwater potential zones were identified, namely “very good”, “good”, “moderate”, “poor”, and “very poor”. The villages under poor groundwater potential zone and the villages under very good groundwater potential zone are finding out. The above study has clearly demonstrated the capabilities of Remote Sensing and GIS in demarcation of the different groundwater potential zones in hard rock terrain.

Acid rain (AR) has been reported to induce stress in plants affecting its productivity, growth, flowering and physiology. The molecular changes induced in plants due to the effect of acid rain or acid induced orientation or chloroplast streaming remains largely unknown. Therefore, in the current study we report for the first time the static and permanent changes in the cell of the medicinal plant Bacopa monnieri L. due to sulphur-simulated acid rain (S-SiAR). AR induced effects witnessed by the reduction of the size of starch granules and chloroplast, amount of the granules per unit area, dissolving cell walls, breaking the normal fiber, salt-induced strain in the various components of the cell. Effect of starch granule and chloroplast due to S-SiAR was analyzed using light, confocal and scanning electron microscopic techniques. The elements viz. potassium and magnesium present in the chloroplasts reveal acidic pH due to effect of S-SiAR observed by the ionization of Mg and K (to Mg2+ and K+), in which K+ induced by the effects of S-SiAR revealed a net negative Nernst potential of about -87.55 mV. Calcium is mainly present on the cell walls and responsible for binding of starch granules become ionized to Ca2+ on interacting with AR indicated by the altered Nernst potential of +137.04 mV. A net potential difference may cause the above streaming of chloroplast towards the large starch granules. From this study, we report AR-induced physiological changes in medicinal plant Bacopa monnieri L. for the first time.

Air is one of the essential elements of human’s *** earth’s atmosphere is full of air which contains gases such as Nitrogen,Oxygen,Carbon Monoxide and traces of some rare *** quality of the air has been degrading for some decades due to various activities conducted by the human beings that directly or indirectly affect the atmosphere leading to the air *** are different techniques to measure air ***,with the evolution of time the expensive and less efficient analog devices have been replaced by more efficient and less expensive electronics *** this research,MQ135 sensor is used to measure air quality of a particular location.I2C display is used to monitor the ***,with the increasing in number of vehicles,unplanned urbanization and rapid population growth,air pollution has considerably increased in the last decades in various areas of ***,this project‘Air Pollution Monitoring System’was focused on collection of the data specific location of chandragiri municipality of Kathmandu *** conclusion,analysis of the data is done with the help of origin software which shows that the Arduino device in this device works perfectly for measuring the air *** quality of the selected area is found to be less than 500 PPM which concludes that the air quality of this area is normal.

由于印度集中产粮区的岩性和农业活动，我们评价该区氟化物（F）污染对饮用地下水的潜在危害。从不同类型的井中采集308个水样并分析水样的pH、EC、NO3-N荷载和氟含量。记录有代表性的岩性，把该区使用肥料和杀虫剂的区域也要录入数据库。这些水样在反应中几乎是中性的而且不含盐，N03—N含量低（0．02～4．56μgmL^-1），水中氟化物含量也低（0．01～1．18μgmL^-1），其中2．27％超过1．0μgmL^-1，对地下水有氟中毒潜在的威胁。随着采样的含水层深度的变化，上述水样平均含量空间变化甚微，因为这个区域的岩性是同质均匀的。这些水样的氟含量表明，氟含量与农用磷肥的量（个别地区超量使用）之间是正相关（r=0．12，P=≤0．05），但是，研究发现，氟含量与杀虫剂使用的人为活动以及与这些水样的NO3—N含量、pH值和EC值之间都不存在这种关系。研究结果表明，磷肥的使用也许对地下水中氟的富集起到一定的作用。

Background: Patients of acute leukemia require careful assessment of liver function prior to start chemotherapy to determine which drugs may be appropriate or to be modified. Post chemotherapy abnormalities of liver function tests may be due to drugs or due to disease process itself. Objective: To evaluate the status of liver function in acute leukemia patients before and after induction chemotherapy. Methodology: This was a prospective cross-sectional study conducted in the Department of Biochemistry, Dhaka Medical College, Dhaka, Bangladesh from January 2017 to December 2017 on fifty (50) newly diagnosed patients of acute leukemia who fulfilled the selection criteria. Blood samples for serum total bilirubin, alanine transaminase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase (AST) were collected before chemotherapy (Day 1) and after induction chemotherapy on 14th day and 30th day. Serum ALT and AST were measured by kinetic method and serum total bilirubin was measured by DMSO method. Data were analyzed and compared by statistical tests. Result: In this study, the mean level of serum total bilirubin before chemotherapy at day 1 was 0.89 ± 0.64 mg/dl. It was significantly (p Conclusion: It is concluded that serum total bilirubin, ALT and AST increase in response to chemotherapeutic drugs during treatment of acute leukemia.
