The present work explored effects of laser surface melting on microstructure and surface topography evolution in AZ31B magnesium *** effects experienced by the material during laser surface melting were simulated using a multiphysics finite element *** and phase evolution were examined using scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction,and electron back scatter *** topography was evaluated using white light *** interaction of surface melted samples with simulated body fluid was monitored by contact angle measurements and immersion studies up to 7 *** surface melting led to formation of a refined microstructure with predominantly basal crystallographic ***,the amount ofβphase(Mg_(17)Al_(12))increased with an increase in the laser fluence.βphase preferentially decorated the cell *** terms of topography,the surface became progressively rougher with an increase in laser *** a result,upon immersion in simulated body fluid,the laser surface melted samples showed an improved wettability,corrosion resistance,and precipitation of mineral having composition closer to the hydroxyapatite bone mineral compared to the untreated sample.

Objective:To verify the antidiabetic potential of stem bark of Albizzia lebbeck(***)and seeds of Mucuna prurient(***)using various in vitro ***:The plant extracts were studied for their effects on glucose adsorption,diffusion amylolysis kinetics and glucose transport across yeast ***:Both the plant extracts adsorbed glucose and the adsorption of glucose increased remarkably with an increase in glucose *** significant(P≤0.05)differences were observed between the adsorption capacities of *** and *** amylolysis kinetic experimental model the rale of glucose diffusion was found to increase with lime from 30 to 180min,and both the plant extracts demonstrated significant inhibitory effects on movement of glucose into external solution across dialysis membrane as compared to *** retardation of glucose diffusion by *** extract was significantly higher(P≤0.05)than *** effects were reflected with higher glucose dialysis retardation index values for *** than *** plant extracts also promoted glucose uptake by yeast *** rate of uptake of glucose into yeast cells was linear in all the 5 glucose concentrations used in the *** extract exhibited significantly higher(P≤0.05)activity than the extract of *** at all ***:The results verified the antidiabetic potential of *** and *** hypoglycemic effect exhibited by the extracts is mediated by increasing glucose adsorption,decreasing glucose diffusion rate and at the cellular level by promoting glucose transport across the cell membrane as revealed by simple in vitro model of yeast cells.

The polycarbosilane(PCS)precursor for SiC with high molecular weight and medium molecular weight distribution was synthesized from polydimethylsilane at normal *** chemical formula,the number average molecular weight,and the polydispersivity index of the synthesized PCS are SiC_(1.94)H_(5.01)O_(0.028),1135,and 1.66,respectively,which can be attributed to the higher reaction temperature used for *** polymer to ceramic conversion of PCS was completed at 900℃with a ceramic yield of 85%.The crystallization started at 1100℃,and at 1200℃,well resolved peaks ofβ-SiC were formed with small amount ofα-*** X-ray diffraction(XRD)and transmission electron microscopy(TEM)studies indicated the presence of nanocrystallineβ-SiC.

Microscopic colitis: Is it a spectrum of inflammatory bowel disease?

Lymphocytic and collagenous colitis are forms of microscopic colitis which typically presents in elderly patients as chronic watery diarrhea. The association between microscopic colitis and inflammatory bowel disease is weak and unclear. Lymphocytic colitis progressing to ulcerative colitis has been previously reported; however there is limited data on ulcerative colitis evolving into microscopic (lymphocytic or collagenous) colitis. We report a series of six patients with documented ulcerative colitis who subsequently were diagnosed with collagenous colitis or lymphocytic colitis suggesting microscopic colitis could be a part of the spectrum of inflammatory bowel disease. The median duration of ulcerative colitis prior to being diagnosed with microscopic colitis was 15 years. We noted complete histological and/or symptomatic remission in three out of six cases while the other three patients reverted back into ulcerative colitis suggesting lymphocytic or collagenous colitis could present as a continuum of ulcerative colitis. The exact molecular mechanism of this histological transformation or the prognostic implications is still unclear. Till then it might be prudent to follow up these patients to assess for the relapse of inflammatory bowel disease as well as for dysplasia surveillance.

The present work describes a facile,one-pot three component synthesis of a series of 3-[（4,5-diphenyl-2-substituted aryl/heteryl）-1H-imidazol-1-yl]-1H-1,2,4-triazole-5-carboxylic acid derivatives M（1-15）.Benzil,aromatic aldehydes and 3-amino-l,2,4-triazole-5-carboxylic acid was refluxed in ethanol using cerric ammonium nitrate（CAN） as a catalyst to give the title compounds in good *** compounds were evaluated for their in vitro antifungal and antibacterial *** M1,M9,and M15 were found to be equipotent against Candida albicans when compared with *** M2.M5,and M14 showed higher activity against Streptococcus *** coli and Streptococcus pyogenes,respectively,compared with *** study of the newly synthesized compounds was performed,and the results showed good binding mode in the active sites of C albicans enzyme cytochrome P450 lanosterol 14α-*** results of in vitro antifungal activity and docking study showed that synthesized compounds had potential antifungal activity and can be further optimized and developed as a lead compound.

The present study aims to evaluate effect of hydroxyapatite(HA,Ca10(PO4)6OH2),a ceramic similar to natural bone,into AZ31B Mg alloy matrix on biomineralization and *** novel friction stir processing additive manufacturing route was employed to fabricate Mg-HA *** HA contents(5,10,20 wt%)were incorporated into Mg *** observation and chemical composition analysis revealed that refined Mg grains and dispersion of HA particles at micro/nanoscales were achieved in Mg-HA composites after the friction stir *** biomineralization evaluation were carried out using immersion experiments in simulated body fluid followed by mineral morphology observation and chemical composition *** wettability measurements were conducted to correlate the biomineralization *** results showed improvement in wettability and bone-like Ca/P ratio in apatite deposit on the composites compared to as-received *** addition,the increase of blood compatibility,cell viability and spreading were found in the higher HA content composites,indicating the improved ***,friction stir processed Mg-20 wt%HA composite exhibited the highest wettability and better cell adhesion among other composites due to the effect of increased HA content within Mg matrix.

Predicting maximum voluntary ventilation in normal healthy individuals using indirect inspiratory muscle strength measurements: a correlation study

Maximum Voluntary Ventilation (MVV), one of the components of Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT), has multiple uses. Various factors including the inspiratory muscle strength (IMS) influence its magnitude. Our aim was to quantify the IMS indirectly using an economical and non invasive bedside assessment tool, determine its association with MVV and then develop a predictive equation for MVV. 41 healthy non-athletic physical therapy students participated in the study. IMS measurement was performed with a sphygmomanometer. Average of the three net deflections in sphygmomanometer following deepest possible breaths was taken as indirect measurement of IMS in mm of Hg. MVV was measured according to ATS guidelines using a spirometer. Results from the data analysis revealed a significant correlation between IMS and MVV(r = 0.83, p < 0.001) and the coefficient of determination = 0.68. So, we developed a regression equation: Y = 1.9669(X) + 49.838 with SEE: 13.02L/min and ANOVA for the equation was (F=68.9, p < 0.001). Hence, it can be concluded that a strong correlation between the indirect IMS and MVV was established and a predictive equation to estimate MVV was developed. This equation proved to have a high predictive value with a small error of estimation. This indicates that the value of the indirect IMS measurement obtained using the sphygmomanometer can be used to estimate MVV in normal healthy individuals without the use of a conventional spirometer.
