Hydatid disease is a zoonosis that can involve almost any organ in the human body. After the liver, the lungs are the most common site for hydatid disease in adults. Imaging plays a pivotal role in the diagnosis of the disease, as clinical features are often nonspecific. Classical radiological signs of pulmonary hydatid cysts have been described in the literature, aiding in the diagnosis of the disease. However, complicated hydatid cysts can prove to be a diagnostic challenge at times due to their atypical imaging features. Radiography is the initial imaging modality. Computed tomography can provide a specific diagnosis in complicated cases. Ultrasound is particularly useful in peripheral lung lesions. The role of magnetic resonance imaging largely remains unexplored.

Chest radiographic and computed tomographic manifestations in allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis

AIM: To investigate the chest radiographic and high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) chest manifestations in glucocorticoid-na?ve allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) patients. METHODS: This is a prospective observational study and includes 60 consecutive glucocorticoid-na?ve patients with ABPA who underwent chest radiography and HRCT of the chest (1.25 mm every 10 mm) in the routine diagnostic workup for ABPA. RESULTS: Chest radiographs were normal in 50% of cases. Of the remainder, most patients demonstrated permanent findings in the form of parallel line and ring shadows suggesting bronchiectasis. Consolidation was detected in 17 cases but in the majority, the corresponding HRCT chest scan showed mucus-filled bronchiectatic cavities. Chest HRCT was normal in 22 patients, while central bronchiectasis (CB) was demonstrated in the remaining 38 patients. Bronchiectasis extended to the periphery in 33%-43% depending on the criteria used for defining CB. The other findings observed on HRCT were mucoid impaction, centrilobular nodules and high-attenuation mucus in decreasing order of frequency. CONCLUSION: Patients with ABPA can present with normal HRCT chest scans. Central bronchiectasis cannot be considered a characteristic feature of ABPA as peripheral bronchiectasis is commonly observed. Consolidation is an uncommon finding in ABPA.

Bilateral inferior dislocation of the hip a case report

Inferior dislocation of the hip is the rarest type in hip dislocation. Very few cases have been reported in the anglophonic literature, most of which involved the pediatric age group. Surprisingly, we came across a 30- year-old patient with a bilateral inferior hip dislocation. He had sustained a road traffic accident and the attitude of both hip joints was flexion and abduction. The diagnosis was confirmed by radiographs which revealed the long axis of the femur at an angle of 1 l0 （right） degrees and 100 （left）degrees respectively away from the axis. Closed reduction under sedation was successfully performed. Skin traction for a period of 6 weeks was advised and the follow-up revealed an excellent result. We present the details of this case, the first of its kind along with a review of the literature, discussing the various modes and mechanisms of injury inducing inferior dislocation of the hip.

Background and aim:Double-balloon enteroscopy(DBE)and single-balloon enteroscopy(SBE)are new techniques capable of providing deep *** of individual studies comparing these techniques have not been able to identify a superior *** aim was to systematically pool all available studies to compare the efficacy and safety of DBE with SBE for evaluation of the small ***:Databases were searched,including PubMed,Embase,and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled *** main outcome measures were complete small-bowel visualization,diagnostic yield,therapeutic yield,and complication *** analysis was performed using Review Manager(RevMan version 5.2).Meta-analysis was performed using fixed-effect or random-effect methods,depending on the absence or presence of significant *** used the v2 and I2 test to assess heterogeneity between *** were expressed as risk ratios(RR)or mean differences with 95%confidence intervals(CI).Results:Four prospective,randomized,controlled trials with a total of 375 patients were *** was superior to SBE for visualization of the entire small bowel[pooled RR=0.37(95%CI:0.19–0.73;P=0.004)].DBE and SBE were similar in ability to provide diagnosis[pooled RR=0.95(95%CI:0.77–1.17;P=0.62)].There was no significant difference between DBE and SBE in therapeutic yield[pooled RR=0.78(95%CI:0.59–1.04;P=0.09)]and complication rate[pooled RR=1.08(95%CI:0.28–4.22);P=0.91].Conclusions:DBE was superior to SBE with regard to complete small bowel *** was similar to SBE with regard to diagnostic yield,ability to provide treatment and complication rate,but these results should be interpreted with caution as they is based on very few studies and the overall quality of the evidence was rated as low tomoderate,due to the small sample size.
