In this paper, fractional order PI(FOPI) control is developed for speed control of permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM). Designing the parameters for FOPI controller is a challenging task, especially for nonlinear systems like *** three PI controllers in the conventional vector controlled speed drive are replaced by FOPI controllers. Design of these FOPI controllers is based on the locally linearized model of PMSM around an operating point. This operating point changes with the load torque. The novelty of the work reported here is in use of Non Linear Disturbance Observer(NLDO) to estimate load torque to obtain this new operating point. All three FOPI controllers are then designed adaptively using this new operating point. The scheme is tested on simulation using MATLAB/SIMULINK and results are presented.

We show that self-assembled vertically aligned gold nanorod （VA-GNRs） superlattices can serve as probes or substrates for ultra-high sensitive detection of various molecules. D-glucose and 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene （TNT） have been chosen as model systems due to their very low Raman cross-sections （5.6× 10-30 ***-1 for D-glucose and 4.9 × 10-31 ***-1 for TNT） to show that the VA-GNR superlattice assembly offers as low as yoctomole sensitivity. Our experiment on mixed samples of bovine serum albumin （BSA） and D-glucose solutions demonstrate sensitivity for the latter, and the possible extension to real samples. Self-assembled superlattices of VA-GNRs were achieved on a silicon wafer by depositing a drop of solvent containing the GNRs and subsequent solvent evaporation in ambient conditions. An additional advantage of the VA-GNR monolayers is their extremely high reproducible morphology accompanied by ultrahigh sensitivity which will be useful in many fields where a very small amount of analyte is available. Moreover the assembly can be reused a number of times after removing the already present molecules. The method of obtaining VA-GNRs is simple, inexpensive and reproducible. With the help of simulations of monolayers and multilayers it has been shown that superlattices can achieve better sensitivity than monolaver assembly of VA-GNRs.

Photoelectrochemical(PEC)water splitting is regarded as the most promising method to generate“green hydrogen”,and zinc oxide(ZnO)has been identified as one of the promising candidates for PEC water splitting owing to its straddling band alignment with the water redox ***,its PEC performance is limited due to its wide bandgap and anticipated by photocorrosion in an aqueous *** this work,we present strategic improvements in the PEC water splitting performance of ZnO nanowires(NWs)by nitrogen(N)-doping along with photostability by the core–shell deposition of a NiOOH *** crystalline hierarchical ZnO NWs were fabricated on Si NWs(ZnO-Si HNWs)using a metal organic chemical vapor deposition *** NWs were then N-doped by annealing in an NH_(3) *** N-doped ZnO-Si HNWs(N:ZnO-Si HNWs)showed enhanced visible light absorption,and suppressed recombination of the photogenerated *** compared to ZnO-Si HNWs(0.045 m A cm^(-2) at 1.23 V vs RHE),the N:ZnO-Si HNWs(0.34 m A cm^(-2) at 1.23 V vs RHE)annealed in NH^(3) ambient for 3 h at 600℃showed 7.5-fold enhancement in the photocurrent ***-deposited N:ZnO-Si HNW photoanodes with a photostability of 82.21%over 20000 s showed 10.69-fold higher photocurrent density(0.48 m A cm^(-2) at 1.23 V vs RHE)than ZnO-Si HNWs.

Pancreatic cancer and its stroma: A conspiracy theory

Pancreatic cancer is characterised by a prominent desmoplastic/stromal reaction that has received little attention until recent times. Given that treatments focusing on pancreatic cancer cells alone have failed to significantly improve patient outcome over many decades, research efforts have now moved to understanding the pathophysiology of the stromal reaction and its role in cancer progression. In this regard, our Group was the first to identify the cells(pancreatic stellate cells, PSCs) that produced the collagenous stroma of pancreatic cancer and to demonstrate that these cells interacted closely with cancer cells to facilitate local tumour growth and distant metastasis. Evidence is accumulating to indicate that stromal PSCs may also mediate angiogenesis, immune evasion and the well known resistance of pancreatic cancer to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. This review will summarise current knowledge regarding the critical role of pancreatic stellate cells and the stroma in pancreatic cancer biologyand the therapeutic approaches being developed to target the stroma in a bid to improve the outcome of this devastating disease.

Nowadays,triboelectric nanogenerators(TENGs)are one of the most emerging technologies owing to their easy and costeffective device *** can harvest mechanical energy from our living ***,we synthesized dielectric zinc tin oxide(ZnSnO_(3))nanoparticles(NPs)by a hydrothermal *** ZnSnO_(3)NPs provide a dielectric and piezoelectric effect,which can efficiently enhance the output electrical performance of the proposed *** prepared ZnSnO_(3)NPs were embedded into a polyvinylidene fluoride hexafluoropropylene(PVDF-HFP)polymer to prepare ZnSnO_(3)/PVDF-HFP nanofibrous films to fabricate a *** output performance of TENG was investigated and optimized by varying the loading concentration of ZnSnO_(3)NPs in PVDF-HFP fibrous *** highest voltage,current,charge density,and power density from the fabricated TENG were achieved as~138 V,~5μA,~52μC/m2,and~1.6 W/m2,***,the robustness of the TENG was studied via the long-term mechanical stability ***,the practical and real-time application of the TENG was demonstrated by harvesting mechanical energy to power low-power portable electronic ***,the materials used in the TENG were combined into a skipping rope to harvest biomechanical/mechanical energy while exercising.

The constitutively-expressed cyclooxygenase 1（COX-1） and the inducible COX-2 are both involved in the conversion of arachidonic acid（AA） to prostaglandins（PGs）.However,the functional roles of COX-1 at the cellular level remain *** hypothesized that by comparing differential gene expression and eicosanoid metabolism in lung fibroblasts from wild-type（WT） mice and COX-2^（-/-） or COX-1^（-/-） mice may help address the functional roles of COX-1 in inflammation and other cellular *** to WT,the number of specifically-induced transcripts were altered descendingly as follows：COX-2^（-/-）〉 COX-1^（-/-）〉 WT ＋ IL-1β.COX-1^（-/-） or COX-2^（-/-） cells shared about 50%of the induced transcripts with WT cells treated with IL-1β,*** interactive ＂anti-inflammatory,proinflammatory,and redox-activated＂ signature in the protein-protein interactome map was observed in COX-2^（-/-） *** augmented COX-1mRNA（in COX-2^（-/-） cells） was associated with the upregulation of mRNAs for glutathione S-transferase（GST）,superoxide dismutase（SOD）,NAD（P）H dehydrogenase quinone 1（NQO1）,aryl hydrocarbon receptor（AhR）,peroxiredoxin,phospholipase,prostacyclin synthase,and prostaglandin E synthase,resulting in a significant increase in the levels of PGE2,PGD2,leukotriene B4（LTB4）,PGF（1α）,thromboxane B2（TXB2）,and PGF（2α）.The COX-1 plays a dominant role in shifting AA toward the LTB4 pathway and anti-inflammatory *** to WT,the upregulated COX-1 mRNA in COX-2^（-/-） cells generated an ＂eicosanoid storm＂.The genomic characteristics of COX-2^（-/-） is similar to that of proinflammatory cells as observed in IL-1β induced WT ***-1^（-/-） and COX-2^（-/-） cells exhibited compensation of various eicosanoids at the genomic and metabolic levels.

Objective To investigate the kinetics of Iododeoxyuridine(IUdR)release from sodium alginate hydrogel cross-linked with varying amounts of calcium chloride, and to optimize sustained release for further periadventitial I125-labeled IUdR delivery to suppress intimal hyperplasia following angioplasty in vivo. Methods Four hydrogels,composed of 0.16 mEq sodium alginate and 200 g IUdR, were cross-linked with calcium chloride to yield ion equivalence (IE) ratios (Calcium: alginate) of 3:1, 4:1, 5:1, or 6:1. 2 ml of normal saline was placed on top of each hydrogel and allowed to remain in contact at 37℃ for up to 30 days. At set time intervals, the concentration and amount of IUdR in the eluate were assayed by high performance liquid chromatography using UV detection and Water symmetry C18 column. The data for accumulated release rate and concentration in the eluate were calculated based on the calibration curve of peak area versus IUdR concentration. The hydrogel morphologic degradations were also observed. Results The hydrogels entrapped 92.9%, 98.6%, 98.4% and 98.6% of the IUdR with 3:1, 4:1, 5:1 and 6:1 IE ratios, respectively. IUdR concentration in eluates from 3:1 IE ratio hydrogel decreased faster than that from other hydrogels over time (P < 0.01). The 4:1, 5:1 and 6:1 IE ratio hydrogels produced more than 10 μm IUdR concentrations in eluates for the first 8 days, while the 3:1 IE ratio hydrogel for 4 days. IUdR release rates of the 4:1, 5:1 and 6:1 IE ratio hydrogels were very close, however they were lower than that of the 3:1 IE hydrogel in the first 48 hours (P < 0.05). At day 30, the 3:1 and 4:1 IE ratio hydrogels had 100% and 88% degradation, but no significant degradation was observed in the other hydrogels. Conclusion The sodium alginate hydrogel with 4:1 IE ratio exhibited an optimal IUdR sustained release and almost complete degradation in 30 days. (J Intervent Radiol, 2006, 15: 293-298)

The differential expression of two closelyassociated cyclooxygenase isozymes, COX-1 and COX-2, exhibited functions beyond eicosanoid metabolism. We hypothesized that COX-1 or COX-2 knockout lung fibroblasts may display altered protein profiles which may allow us to further differentiate the functional roles of these isozymes at the molecular level. Proteomic analysis shows constitutive production of macrophage migration inhibitory factor （MIF） in lung fibroblasts derived from COX-2 / but not wild-type （WT） or COX-1-/- mice. MIF was spontaneously released in high levels into the extracellular milieu of COX2 /- fibroblasts seemingly from the pre- formed intracellular stores, with no change in the basal gene expression of MIF. The secretion and regulation of MIF in COX-2-/- was ＂prostaglandin-independent.＂ GO analysis showed that concurrent with upregulation of MIF, there is a significant surge in expression of genes related to fibroblast growth, FK506 binding proteins, and isomerase activity in COX-2 ! cells. Furthermore, COX-2-/- fibroblasts also exhibit a significant increase in transcriptional activity of various regu- lators, antagonists, and co-modulators of p53, as well as in the expression of oncogenes and related transcripts. Integrative Oncogenomics Cancer Browser （IntroGen） analysis shows downregulation of COX-2 and amplification of MIF and/or p53 activity during development of glioblastomas, ependymoma, and colon adenomas. These data indicate the functional role of the MIF-COX- p53 axis in inflammation and cancer at the genomic and proteomie levels in COX-2-ablated cells. This systematic analysis not only shows the proinflammatory state but also unveils a molecular signature of a pro-oncogenic state of COX-1 in COX-2 ablated cells.
