Development of Non-Labeled QCM Biosensor for the Detection of <i>β</i>-Galactosidase: A Comparative Study of Gold and Polystyrene Nanoparticles

The performance of gold and polystyrene nanoparticles was investigated using quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) as sensor platform;β-Galactosidase antibody with corresponding antigen was utilized for the immunoreaction. The development of the immunosensor included: 1) formation of self assembled monolayers on quartz crystals;2a) immobilization of p-aminothiophenol functionalized gold nanoparticles on carboxyl-terminated self assembled monolayer, or 2b) immobilization of polystyrene nanoparticles on crystals modified with p-aminothiophenol self assembled monolayer;3) attachment of monoclonal anti β-Gal on nanoparticles;and 4) detection of target analyte. The nanoparticles used were synthesized in house and characterized by transmission electron microscopy and infrared spectroscopy. The results revealed that antibodies were strongly attached to functionalized gold nanoparticles;the weaker immobilization of antibodies to polystyrene nanoparticles provoked their detachment during antigen detection. When cross reactivity of polystyrene nanoparticles was checked using a different antigen (Brucella), displacement of antibody was not recorded, demonstrating specificity of the reaction. To the best of our knowledge this is the first direct comparison between behaviors of biosensors developed with two commonly used nanoparticles. The results showed that both nanoparticles produced biosensors capable to detect β-Gal. Nevertheless biosensors developed using polystyrene nanoparticles are simpler, cheaper and more eco-friendly than those developed using gold nanoparticles.

Management issues in post living donor liver transplant biliary strictures

Biliary complications are common after living donor liver transplant(LDLT) although with advancements in surgical understanding and techniques, the incidence is decreasing. Biliary strictures are more common than leaks. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP) is the first line modality of treatment of post LDLT biliary strictures with a technical success rate of 75%-80%. Most of ERCP failures are successfully treated by percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage(PTBD) and rendezvous technique. A minority of patients may require surgical correction. ERCP for these strictures is technically more challenging than routine as well post deceased donor strictures. Biliary strictures may increase the morbidity of a liver transplant recipient, but the mortality is similar to those with or without strictures. Post transplant strictures are short segment and soft, requiring only a few session of ERCP before complete dilatation. Long-term outcome of patients with biliary stricture is similar to those without stricture. With the introduction of new generation cholangioscopes, ERCP success rate may increase, obviating the need for PTBD and surgery in these patients.

Influence of wellhead pressure and water cut in the optimization of oil production from gas lifted wells

The worldwide increase in energy demand necessitates the development and optimization of marginal oil fields for *** this regard,effective and economic production of fluids are heavily relied upon the artificial lift techniques as the reservoir's natural energy may not be able to deliver the fluids to the *** lift is a widely practised and successful method that is suitable for rejuvenating the oil production from such *** this study,the influence of critical parameters like water cut,wellhead pressure(WHP)and gas-lift gas injection rate on the output from a gas lifted well was analysed.A significant reduction in the oil production was observed with the increase in water *** a fixed gas injection rate of 1 Mmscf/day,the production decreased by 26.90%when the water cut increased from 15%to 30%and further by 50.80%when the water cut reached 45%.An increase in the gas injection rate from 1 Mmscf/day to 8 Mmscf/day resulted in an increase in the production rate by 29.21%,40.48%and 56.56%for 15%,30%,and 45%water cut conditions,*** was observed that there is a drop in the oil rate with the increase in WHP for a constant gas injection *** increase in the WHP from 100 psi to 300 psi resulted in a drop in the oil production rate by 11.01%,11.78%and 12.74%for 15%,30%and 45%water cut conditions,*** study sheds light on the significance of optimizing the critical parameters to maximize the production from a well,with severely affected productivity,using a continuous gas lift system.

The determination of seismic attenuation （s）（dB/cm） is a challenging task in earthquake science. This article employs genetic programming （GP） and minimax probability machine regression （MPMR） for prediction of s. GP is developed based on genetic algo- rithm. MPMR maximizes the minimum probability of future predictions being within some bound of the true regression function. Porosity （n）（%）, permeability （k）（millidarcy）, grain size （d）（μm）, and clay content （c）（%） have been considered as inputs of GP and MPMR. The output of GP and MPMR is s. Background and Aims:The anticipated fear of serious out-comes in coronavirus infected liver transplant recipients led to disruption of transplant services *** aim of our study was to analyze COVID-19 severity in transplant recipients and to compare the difference of COVID-19 clinical outcomes in early(1 year)post-transplant ***:41 post-living donor liver transplant recipients with COVID-19 infection were studied retrospectively from 1st April 2020 to 28th February ***:The median age was 49.00 years with a male preponderance(80.49%).Fif-teen patients had infection within 1 year of transplant and 26 were infected after 1 year of *** overall median interval between transplantation and COVID-19 diagnosis was 816.00 *** and malaise were the common presenting *** most common associated comorbidities were diabetes mellitus(65.85%)and hypertension(46.34%).The severity of illness was mild in 28(68.29%),moderate in 4(9.76%),severe in 6(14.63%)and critical in 3(7.32%).To identify associated risk factors,we divided our patients into less severe and more severe *** for lymphopenia,there was no worsening of total bilirubin,transaminases,al-kaline phosphatase,and gamma-glutamyl transferase in the more severe ***(19.51%)patients required inten-sive care unit admission and three(7.32%)died,while none suffered graft *** recipients with early *** post-transplant COVID-19 infection,there were similar outcomes in terms of severity of COVID-19 illness,intensive care unit care need,requirement of respiratory support,and ***:Living donor liver transplantation can be per-formed during the COVID-19 pandemic without the fear of poor recipient outcome in cases of unfortunate contraction of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2.

Software reliability is the primary concern of software developmentorganizations, and the exponentially increasing demand for reliable softwarerequires modeling techniques to be developed in the present era. Small unnoticeable drifts in the software can culminate into a disaster. Early removal of theseerrors helps the organization improve and enhance the software’s reliability andsave money, time, and effort. Many soft computing techniques are available toget solutions for critical problems but selecting the appropriate technique is abig challenge. This paper proposed an efficient algorithm that can be used forthe prediction of software reliability. The proposed algorithm is implementedusing a hybrid approach named Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System and has also beenapplied to test data. In this work, a comparison among different techniques of softcomputing has been performed. After testing and training the real time data withthe reliability prediction in terms of mean relative error and mean absolute relativeerror as 0.0060 and 0.0121, respectively, the claim has been verified. The resultsclaim that the proposed algorithm predicts attractive outcomes in terms of meanabsolute relative error plus mean relative error compared to the other existingmodels that justify the reliability prediction of the proposed model. Thus, thisnovel technique intends to make this model as simple as possible to improvethe software reliability.
