Acute non-renal adverse events after unenhanced and enhanced computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging

Aim: Investigating the incidence of non-renal acute adverse events (AAEs) in patients undergoing unenhanced or enhanced computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance (MR) (four groups) using the ac- tive interview-method. Methods: The imaging procedure followed the standards of the department. Furthermore, the iodine-based (nonionic monomer) and gadolinium-based (cyclic) contrast agent was the same as used for all other examinations in the department. All patients were interviewed for 72 hours after the MR or CT examination regarding occurrence of AAEs using a structured questionnaire. Results: A total of 1358 patients (259 with enhanced MR, 434 with unenhanced MR, 450 with enhanced CT and 215 with unenhanced CT) were enrolled. AAEs were significantly higher (P unenhanced MR [39 (9.0%)] and CT [5 (2.3%)] groups. Dizziness was significantly [19 (7.3%), (P frequent in the enhanced MR. The same AAEs were reported in both contrast groups and control groups. Conclusion: AAEs which are mainly considered to be caused by the contrast medium are also experienced by patients undergoing CT or MR without contrast. Enhanced MR is correlated with more reactions than unenhanced MR and enhanced CT. Dizziness was reported more frequently after MR than CT, both with and without contrast;more patients were CNS examined with MR and with CT.

Functional Ice Cream with Coffee-Related Flavor

In this study, Siwi roasted date seeds (pits) as a by-product of the date factories were used in powder form for ice cream fortification to produce a new product with coffee-like flavor. Also, this product possesses functional, nutritional and health benefits as it contains, minerals, phenolic compounds and possess antioxidant activity. Six ice cream mixes were prepared: plain ice cream without additives (control), five ice cream treatments supplemented with powder of the Nescafé (3%), Coffee (3%) and Roasted Date Seeds Powder (RDSP) with ratio of 3%, 4% and 5%, respectively. The results showed that increasing the added percentage of Roasted Date Seeds Powder (RDSP) to the ice cream mixes leads to an increase in the total solids, fibers, total nitrogen and ash content of the final product. The WHO project for conforming PHC to requirements of all age groups has resulted in publishing a toolkit for age-friendly PHC in 2008. The toolkit included checklists for physical environment and signage properties. This study matched the current physical environment properties of DHA’s PHC Health Centers against WHO’s recommendations. This is a cross sectional descriptive study that included visits to all 12 Primary Health Care Centers in Dubai city during August-September 2016 with the objective to assess the degree of fulfillment of current properties of Health Centers building to the recommendations of WHO as listed in “Age-friendly Primary Health Care Centres Toolkit” [1]. The study found that 81.86% of physical environment properties are matching the recommendation of WHO, while signage matching was 44.6%. The study concluded that most PHC properties have a physical design that met WHO’s recommendations. The two major deviations were accessibility by public transportations and presence of grab bars. Factors that had a significant impact on design were compliance with multiple international and local standards, the availability of private cars, and the availability of wheel chairs. Signage in DHA’s health centers followed a central plan that differed from WHO’s recommendations.

Adverse Effects of Monosodium Glutamate on Liver and Kidney Functions in Adult Rats and Potential Protective Effect of Vitamins C and E

Monosodium glutamate (MSG) was administrated to rats at doses of 0.6 and 1.6 mg/g body weight for 14 days. Body weight and relative liver and kidney weight of rats were significantly increased. On regard to liver functions, the activities of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and γ glutamyle transferase (GGT) significantly increased in the serum, on MSG administration, meanwhile, serum total protein, albumin and serum total bilirubin significantly decreased. MSG had adverse effects on kidney functions as serum urea and serum creatinine were significantly increased. Vitamin C (0.3 mg/g body weight) and vitamin E (0.2 mg/g body weight) co-adminstrated with MSG, significantly restored the body weight and relative liver and kidney weights to control levels. In the presence of vitamin C and vitamin E the activities of ALT and GGT in the serum were also significantly reduced to become comparable with control trail. Consequently, serum total protein, albumin and serum total bilirubin were significantly increased in the serum, while serum urea and serum creatinine were significantly decreased after administration of each vitamin. The results showed that MSG at doses of 0.6 and 1.6 mg/g of body weight may cause an adverse effect on the hepatic and renal functions which might be due to oxidative stress induced by MSG on the liver and renal tissue. Supplementation of vitamin C and vitamin E was capable of ameliorating MSG-induced oxidative stress on hepatic and renal functions.

从古至今,河流水资源争端一直是沿岸国家与人民的关注焦点。如何和平管控水资源冲突是国际社会面对的众多严峻问题之一。有鉴于此,探讨幼发拉底河-底格里斯河流域三大沿岸国土耳其、叙利亚和伊拉克之间水资源争端背后的复杂局面具有其必要性。自拥有强大军事力量的沿岸三大国启动水资源发展项目以来,水资源问题开始成为该区域的重大议题之一。20世纪60年代,土耳其和叙利亚首次提出了雄心勃勃的水利工程计划,开发两河流域水资源,以满足其国内能源和灌溉需求。此后不久,伊拉克也出台了水资源开发计划。目前,学术界许多关于水资源的讨论集中在其促成合作和引发矛盾的潜力上,这些讨论表明水资源争端成为导致未来冲突的主要因素之一。一直以来,中东地区以其丰富的石油和天然气资源著称。但同时,该地区又极度缺乏水资源,导致中东地区面临巨大的挑战。自上世纪60年代以来,该地区三个军事强国之间——土耳其、叙利亚和伊拉克——不仅出现了水资源争端的迹象,而且三大国在冷战中选择了不同阵营,导致该地区安全局势十分脆弱。因此,该地区许多国家呼吁通过外交路径解决水资源争端,以避免潜在冲突一触即发。但该地区紧张的政治局势导致外交手段管控水资源争端的效果大打折扣。本文通过回顾该地区水资源外交所面临的挑战,着重分析了两河流域水资源争端问题。该问题的探析自沿岸国家（土耳其、伊拉克和叙利亚）水资源争端的根源始,直至伊拉克战争、叙利亚危机时期,还包括分析分配共有水资源的相关协定以及土耳其水利设施的建设对土耳其-阿拉伯国家关系产生的冲击。本研究旨在证明该假设的有效性,即水资源危机是影响叙利亚和伊拉克等下游国家与土耳其等上游国家之间关系的最重要危机之一。多重挑战阻碍了促进三方协议达成、解决冲突的努力,其中大多数挑战是由叙利亚危机和伊拉克战争（2003年美国军事占领伊拉克战争和2011年叙利亚危机）引发的冲突。两国的政治和安全困境削弱了其进行有效协调的能力,导致双方难以与土耳其达成一项公平的水资源分配协定。该研究认为,两河流域沿岸国家之间悬而未决、棘手的政治问题是实现该地区水资源争端和平管控的主要障碍,例如库尔德人问题;叙利亚与土耳其之间关于伊斯肯德伦管辖区争端;土耳其对叙利亚反对派力量,尤其是反政府主力叙利亚自由军的物质和道义支持;土耳其境内数千名叙利亚难民收容问题;恐怖主义团体的兴起。2014年出现的所谓ISIS国以及其对叙利亚和伊拉克境内主要水坝的控制状态也是该进程中的一大难题。土耳其以控制状态为借口,减少了两条河流流向其阿拉伯邻国的水量。显然,连年战乱耗尽了叙利亚和伊拉克国内的机制能力,导致了两国联合数据、信息交换机制的缺位,叙伊两国对土耳其意图的不信任感日益上升。土耳其拒绝适用国际法解决争端,特别是拒绝适用联合国大会于1997年所通过的《国际水道非航行使用法公约》,且拖延与叙利亚、伊拉克两国签订的条约、谅解备忘录和协定的实施,使两国对其的不信任感极度加剧。此外,为了进一步揭示水资源争端背后的核心问题,本研究报告表明在美国和其他区域、国际环境主要行为者的支持下,土耳其在两河流域的水利工程与水资源政策加剧了水资源争端,并导致土耳其国内关于售卖水资源或以石油交换水资源的呼声越来越高。鉴于上述问题,本研究分为以下五个章节:第一章导言部分定义了水资源外交这一术语,介绍了关于土耳其、伊拉克和叙利亚三国在幼发拉底河-底格里斯河流域水争端的起源,以及两河作为这三个国家重要的和实质性的食物、能源和饮用水来源的重要性。本项研究的意义在于,为了防止国家之间的政治摩擦加剧,沿岸国家对共享水资源问题关注度日益上升,致力于查明阻碍水资源外交成功解决争端的挑战。第一章还介绍了所采取的研究方法,主要是描述性分析方法,通过收集数据追踪水资源危机扩大过程的历史方法。并且,本章采取法律途径,确定了适用于解决水资源危机的国际法和水资源相关的国际条约。此外,本章还回顾了众多学者的文献著作,他们从国际法和水资源外交的角度详细解释了国际共有水资源问题上冲突与合作的原因,以及探索解决水资源争端的现有机制作为管控水资源冲突、促进地区和平的一种新路径。第二章指出水资源问题是大多数中东国家及其利益的优先事项,尤其是境内60%水资源来源于境外的阿拉伯国家。研究发现,中东地区水资源争端集中于三大国际河流流域:尼罗河流域、约旦·耶尔穆克流域和幼发拉底河-底格里斯河流域。本研究以幼发拉底河-底格里斯河流域水资源争端为案例,分析中东地区水资源危机的各个维度。地缘政治维度在中东地区水资源危机中发挥了重要作用。土耳其建立地区霸权的趋势是基于其战略地理位置的政策考量。该案例表明,土耳其将水资源争端作为其在中东地区,尤其是在伊拉克和叙利亚,建立霸权统治的工具。水资源危机造成的冲突与土耳其的政治、经济愿望相符合。两河流域水资源危机的政治性运用来自于土耳其决策者的认识,即土

Coronary heart disease is among the most prevalent and costly of all global health problems. Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) has been increasingly used since the 1960s. Coronary heart disease is a leading cause of death worldwide, including Sudan. Self-efficacy and functional capacity is a critical factor for quality of life in patients who has undergone CABG as well as for their caregivers from their families. Aim of the Study: To explore the effects of an educational program on self-efficacy and functional capacity of patients after CABG. 1) There will be no significant difference between the intervention group and control group concerning knowledge regarding Self-efficacy and functional capacity post CABG surgery. 2) The application of our educational program for the patients will enhance the patients with CABG surgery and improve knowledge about Self-efficacy and functional capacity post CABG surgery. 3) There are some socio demographic factors that affect the response to the educational program. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental, interventional and hospital-based study, including pre-test, a post-test and follow-up test, with a control group, conducted during the period from September 2014 to June 2019. Patients were recruited consecutively to the cases and control group using convenience sampling. The sample consisted of 76 patients;41 as cases and 35 as control group. The sample included those who had undergone CABG in Khartoum State. Relevant data were collected using a checklist to monitor the effect of a health education program on self-efficacy and functional capacity of the patients. Result: The results showed marked improvement in patients’ self-efficacy and functional capacity between pretest and posttest for the study group;p-value = (0.001) in the health status of cases in comparison to the control group. Numerical Treatment of Nonlinear Volterra-Fredholm Integral Equation with a Generalized Singular Kernel

In the paper, the approximate solution for the two-dimensional linear and nonlinear Volterra-Fredholm integral equation (V-FIE) with singular kernel by utilizing the combined Laplace-Adomian decomposition method (LADM) was studied. This technique is a convergent series from easily computable components. Four examples are exhibited, when the kernel takes Carleman and logarithmic forms. Numerical results uncover that the method is efficient and high accurate.

Comparison between Adomian’s Decomposition Method and Toeplitz Matrix Method for Solving Linear Mixed Integral Equation with Hilbert Kernel

This paper proposes the combined Laplace-Adomian decomposition method (LADM) for solution two dimensional linear mixed integral equations of type Volterra-Fredholm with Hilbert kernel. Comparison of the obtained results with those obtained by the Toeplitz matrix method (TMM) demonstrates that the proposed technique is powerful and simple.
