A multicenter, open-label, randomized, controlled superiority trial with 18 months of follow-up was conducted to investigate whether oral zinc supplementation could further promote spermatogenesis in males with isolated hypogonadotropic hypogonadism （IHH） receiving sequential purified urinary follicular-stimulating hormone/human chorionic gonadotropin （uFSH/hCG） replacement. Sixty-seven Chinese male IHH patients were recruited from the Departments of Endocrinology in eight tertiary hospitals and randomly allocated into the sequential uFSH/hCG group （Group A, n = 34） or the sequential uFSH plus zinc supplementation group （Group B, n = 33）. In Group A, patients received sequential uFSH （75 U, three times a week every other 3 months） and hCG （2000 U, twice a week） treatments. In Group B, patients received oral zinc supplementation （40 mg day-1） in addition to the sequential uFSH/hCG treatment given to patients in Group A. The primary outcome was the proportion of patients with a sperm concentration 〉1.0 × 106 ml-1 during the 18 months. The comparison of efficacy between Groups A and B was analyzed. Nineteen of 34 （55.9%） patients receiving sequential uFSH/hCG and 20 of 33 （60.6%） patients receiving sequential uFSH/hCG plus zinc supplementation achieved sperm concentrations ≥1.0 × 106 ml-1 by intention to treat analyses. No differences between Group A and Group B were observed as far as the efficacy of inducing spermatogenesis （P = 0.69）. We concluded that the sequential uFSH/hCG plus zinc supplementation regimen had a similar efficacy to the sequential uFSH/hCG treatment alone. The additional improvement of 40 mg day-1 oral zinc supplementation on spermatogenesis and masculinization in male IHH patients is very subtle.

Global aging has brought attention to addressing the elderly mobility dilemma,and a commitment to address inclusive transport in aging.Transport inclusion for older adults aims at establishing an age-friendly transport system.As a direct policy goal and promoting active aging as an indirect social goal,to help older populations gain access to transport and social opportunities.Based on the analysis of scientific knowledge mapping over the past 30 years,this study visualizes the hotspots and trends in elderly mobility research.Through a qualitative analysis of 138 papers,this paper reviews the theoretical foundations for transport inclusion and three themes of elderly mobility research,proposes a framework for public transport(PT)inclusion research as well as future research directions.The study suggests that transport inclusion can help enhance elderly health,social participation,and subjective well-being.It can improve their travel opportunities for active aging in four ways:opportunity accessibility,physical accessibility,age-friendly informationalization,and cost affordability.Future research should pay attention to examining the mechanism of perceived transport inclusion on active aging,expanding the multilevel research space of the capability approach(CA),and exploring the subjectiveobjective integrated research model for PT inclusion.This research contributes to the overall knowledge of the theoretical and empirical researches on PT inclusion for the elderly and promotes the integrated application of interdisciplinary knowledge in the field.

Influence of the Acoustic Liner in Large Eddy Simulation of Longitudinal Thermoacoustic Instability in a Model Annular Combustor

Although extensive efforts have been made to dampen the thermoacoustic instability,successfully controlling the pressure oscillations in modern gas turbines or aeroengines remains challenging.The influence of the acoustic liner on the longitudinal thermoacoustic mode in a model annular combustor is investigated by Large Eddy Simulation(LES) in this work.The result of the self-excited longitudinal thermoacoustic instability without the liner agrees well with the frequency and acoustic analysis of the pressure mode based on experimental data.Three different bias flow velocities of the liner located downstream of the combustor are then simulated.The results reveal that the existence of the liner influences not only the acoustic field but also the flow field.When the bias velocity is large,it leads to intense turbulence-induced fluctuations,and the pressure oscillation is modulated intermittently.It shows that the weak coupling between flow and pressure oscillations plays a significant role in the onset of the intermittency of a thermoacoustic system.Based on the dynamic analysis of the thermoacoustic system with the acoustic liner,this intermittency is caused by the influence of the flow field on the flame-acoustic coupling.Finally,a low-order modeling method based on Van der Pol(VdP) oscillator with additive stochastic forcing is conducted to reproduce the evolving dynamics of the thermoacoustic system.Although the numerical cases demonstrated in this work are relatively simpler than those in a practical combustion system,the results are helpful for us to understand the effect of the acoustic liner and show the attractive potential to apply this device to suppress thermoacoustic instability.

Motile plant tissues can control their configurations and regulate their motion speed according to their specific requirements,which offer various protypes for biomimetic actuators with controlled motion speed.In this perspective,we focus on the speed control of plant tissues and the bioinspired strategies for speed regulation of artificial actuators.We begin with a summary to the strategies and mechanisms of motile plant tissues for controlling motion speed,ranging from ultrafast to ultraslow.We then exemplify the models for fabricating bioinspired artificial actuators and briefly discuss current application scenarios of actuators with varying speeds from ultrafast to ultraslow.Finally,we propose potential strategies for the speed regulation of actuators.

This paper investigates the recoil control of the deepwater drilling riser system with nonlinear tension force and energy-bounded friction force under the circumstances of limited network resources and unreliable communication.Different from the existing linearization modeling method,a triangle-based polytope modeling method is applied to the nonlinear riser system.Based on the polytope model,to improve resource utilization and accommodate random data loss and communication delay,an asynchronous gain-scheduled control strategy under a hybrid event-triggered scheme is proposed.An asynchronous linear parameter-varying system that blends input delay and impulsive update equation is presented to model the nonlinear networked recoil control system,where the asynchronous deviation bounds of scheduling parameters are calculated.Resorting to the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional method,some solvable conditions of disturbance attenuation analysis and recoil control design are derived such that the resulting networked system is exponentially mean-square stable with prescribed H∞performance.The obtained numerical results verified that the proposed nonlinear networked control method can achieve a better recoil response of the riser system with less transmission data compared with the linear control method.

Prediction plays an important role in data analysis.Model averaging method generally provides better prediction than using any of its components.Even though model averaging has been extensively investigated under independent errors,few authors have considered model averaging for semiparametric models with correlated errors.In this paper,the authors offer an optimal model averaging method to improve the prediction in partially linear model for longitudinal data.The model averaging weights are obtained by minimizing criterion,which is an unbiased estimator of the expected in-sample squared error loss plus a constant.Asymptotic properties,including asymptotic optimality and consistency of averaging weights,are established under two scenarios:(i)All candidate models are misspecified;(ii)Correct models are available in the candidate set.Simulation studies and an empirical example show that the promise of the proposed procedure over other competitive methods.

Objective:Research has shown that celastrol can effectively treat a variety of diseases,yet when passing a certain dosage threshold,celastrol becomes toxic,causing complications such as liver and kidney damage and erythrocytopenia,among others.With this dichotomy in mind,it is extremely important to find ways to preserve celastrol’s efficacy while reducing or preventing its toxicity.Methods:In this study,insulin-resistant Hep G2(IR-Hep G2)cells were prepared using palmitic acid and used for in vitro experiments.IR-Hep G2 cells were treated with celastrol alone or in combination with nacetylcysteine(naC)or ferrostatin-1(Fer-1)for 12,24 or 48 h,at a range of doses.Cell counting kit-8assay,Western blotting,quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction,glucose consumption assessment,and flow cytometry were performed to measure celastrol’s cytotoxicity and whether the cell death was linked to ferroptosis.Results:Celastrol treatment increased lipid oxidation and decreased expression of anti-ferroptosis proteins in IR-Hep G2 cells.Celastrol downregulated glutathione peroxidase 4(GPX4)m Rna.Molecular docking models predicted that solute carrier family 7 member 11(SLC7A11)and GPX4 were covalently bound by celastrol.Importantly,we found for the first time that the application of ferroptosis inhibitors(especially naC)was able to reduce celastrol’s toxicity while preserving its ability to improve insulin sensitivity in IR-Hep G2 cells.Conclusion:One potential mechanism of celastrol’s cytotoxicity is the induction of ferroptosis,which can be alleviated by treatment with ferroptosis inhibitors.These findings provide a new strategy to block celastrol’s toxicity while preserving its therapeutic effects.

The modular system can change its physical structure by self-assembly and self-disassembly between modules to dynamically adapt to task and environmental requirements. Recognizing the adaptive capability of modular systems, we introduce a modular reconfigurable flight array(MRFA) to pursue a multifunction aircraft fitting for diverse tasks and requirements,and investigate the attitude control and the control allocation problem by using the modular reconfigurable flight array as a platform. First, considering the variable and irregular topological configuration of the modular array, a center-of-mass-independent flight array dynamics model is proposed to allow control allocation under over-actuated situations. Secondly, in order to meet the stable, fast and accurate attitude tracking performance of the MRFA, a fixed-time convergent sliding mode controller with state-dependent variable exponent coefficients is proposed to ensure fast convergence rate both away from and near the system equilibrium point without encountering the singularity. It is shown that the controller also has fixed-time convergent characteristics even in the presence of external disturbances. Finally,simulation results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed modeling and control strategies.

This paper addresses the issue of safety in reinforcement learning(RL)with disturbances and its application in the safety-constrained motion control of autonomous robots.To tackle this problem,a robust Lyapunov value function(rLVF)is proposed.The rLVF is obtained by introducing a data-based LVF under the worst-case disturbance of the observed state.Using the rLVF,a uniformly ultimate boundedness criterion is established.This criterion is desired to ensure that the cost function,which serves as a safety criterion,ultimately converges to a range via the policy to be designed.Moreover,to mitigate the drastic variation of the rLVF caused by differences in states,a smoothing regularization of the rLVF is introduced.To train policies with safety guarantees under the worst disturbances of the observed states,an off-policy robust RL algorithm is proposed.The proposed algorithm is applied to motion control tasks of an autonomous vehicle and a cartpole,which involve external disturbances and variations of the model parameters,respectively.The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the theoretical findings and the advantages of the proposed algorithm in terms of robustness and safety.
