Prevalence of anemia of varying severity, geographic variations, and association with metabolic factors among women of reproductive age in China: a nationwide, population-based study

To investigate the epidemiological characteristics of anemia of varying severity among women of reproductive age,we conducted a nationwide,cross-sectional study between January 1,2019 and December 31,2019,including 4184547 nonpregnant women aged 18–49 years from all 31 provinces in the mainland of *** was defined as having hemoglobin concentration<120.0 g/L and categorized as mild,moderate,and *** logistic models with cluster effect were used to explore the association of anemia and metabolic risk *** standardized prevalence of anemia and moderate and worse anemia among women of reproductive age in China was 15.8%(95%CI 15.1%–16.6%)and 6.6%(6.3%–7.0%),*** prevalence of anemia and the proportion of moderate and worse anemia significantly increased with *** also observed great geographic variations in the prevalence of anemia,with a high likelihood in south,central,and northwest *** and/or severe anemia was positively associated with overweight and obesity,diabetes,and impaired kidney *** conclusion,anemia remains a significant challenge for women of reproductive age in *** variations and metabolic risk factors should be considered in the comprehensive and targeting strategy for anemia reduction.

Role of cathepsin B-mediated apoptosis in fulminant hepatic failure in mice

AIM: To investigate the pathogenic role of cathepsin B and the protective effect of a cathepsin B inhibitor (CA074Me) in fulminant hepatic failure in mice. METHODS: LPS/D-Gal N was injected into mice of the model group to induce fulminant hepatic failure; the protected group was administered CA-074me for 30 min before LPS/D-Gal N treatment; the normal group was given isochoric physiologic saline. Liver tissue histopathology was determined with HE at 2, 4, 6 and 8 h after Lps/D-Gal injection. Hepatocyte apoptosis was examined by TUNEL method. The expression of cathepsin B in liver tissues was investigated by immunohistochemistry, Western blot and RT-PCR. RESULTS: Compared with the normal group, massive typical hepatocyte apoptosis occurred in the model group; the number of apoptotic cells reached a maximum 6 h after injection. The apoptosis index (AI) in the protected group was clearly reduced (30.4 ± 2.8 vs 18.1 ± 2.0, P < 0.01 ). Cathepsin B activity was markedly increased in drug-treated mice compared with the normal group (P < 0.01). Incubation with LPS/D-Gal N at selected time points resulted in a timedependent increase in cathepsin B activity, and reached a maximum by 8 h. The expression of cathepsin B was significantly decreased in the protected group (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: Cathepsin B plays an essential role in the pathogenesis of fulminant hepatic failure, and the cathepsin B inhibitor CA-074me can attenuate apoptosis and liver injury.

Study on Properties of Blue-Brick Masonry Materials for Historical Buildings

There are a large number of historic buildings which were mainly made of blue-brick masonry in today’s ***,for the natural and man-made reasons,these historic buildings have been damaged in different *** order to protect historic buildings more scientifically and learn about the preservation state of existing historic buildings,it is necessary to ascertain the material properties of blue brick in historic *** article takes the blue bricks of historical buildings in Kaifeng area of the Central Plains as an example to *** the analysis of physical properties,X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy,X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy of blue brick specimens,the physical properties such as the apparent density,moisture content,porosity,and material structure composition are *** results show that the apparent density of blue brick is 1.64 g/cm^(3),the moisture content is 10.23%,the 24 h atmospheric water absorption is 17.86%,and the porosity is 20.99%.The smaller the apparent density is,the larger the porosity is,and the water absorption performance is *** the microscopic point of view,bonding ability between blue brick mineral particles is relatively *** pores between skeletons are large and the pore structure is *** the perspective of material phase,the elements of blue brick are mainly O,Si,Al,Fe,and the composition of blue brick is mainly composed of quartz and *** softening coefficient of blue brick is 0.80,and the deformation and stability of the structure should be paid special attention in the rainy season or wet *** the frost test,there are salt substances in the internal pores of the brick,and the surface of the blue brick is eroded and *** this paper,the experimental process and analysis methods for testing the material properties of blue brick can provide reference for the research on the material properties of the same kind of blue-brick masonry in

Experimental Study on Permeability Characteristics of Geotubes for Seepage Analysis on Safety Assessment of Dams

Geotubes are heterogeneous structures composed of filling sand and bag material,and its pemeability characteristics are different from that of flling *** uncertainty of geotubes permeability characteristics results in the failure of seepage analysis of geotube dams,which restricts the safety assessment of the *** the basis of the study on the seepage mechanism of the geotubes,the influence of particle grading on pemeability cofficient of flling sand and sand covered with geotextiles were explored by the pemmeability tests of flling sand with different particle grading under the condition of sand covered with or without *** the infuence of geotextiles on the permeability coefficient was analyzed by comparing permeability coefficient of sand covered with and without *** test results show that the influence of single particle size content on permeability coe ficient is consistent under the condition of sand covered with and without *** content of powder,fine,medium and coarse particles is linearly related to their respective permeability *** the content of powder,fine,medium particles is negatively correlated with their permeability coefficients,while the content of coarse particles is positively correlated with the permeability *** the pemeability coefficient of sand covered with geotextiles is smaller than that of flling sand under the same ***,the parameter d2 50 Cc/Cu was selected as a variable representing the particle grading to fit the empirical formula of permeability coefficient of flling sand and sand covered with geotextiles.

It has been made certain that thio-and oxy-diacetic acid hydrazides are potential anticancer ***,their ability to form complexes with transition metals and the properties of the complexes thus formed have not been *** a new potential anticancer ligand 1,2-bis(thioacetic acid hydrazide)ethane prepared in our lab,along with ligands oxydiacetic hydrazide and 1,2-bis(oxyacetic acid hydrazide) ethane,a series of 11 new first-row transition metal(M=Zn^(2+),Cu^(2+),Co^(2+), Ni^(2+))complexes with each of the above three ligands have been synthesized and characterized by means of elemental analyses,IR,TG and X-ray powder diffraction.

Due to the high risk of tearing and rupture,vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques would induce serious cardiovascular and cerebrovascular *** the available clinical methods can evaluate the vulnerability of plaques and specifically treat vulnerable plaques before a cardiovascular event,but the efficiency is still low and ***,we rationally design and engineer the low-intensity focused ultrasound(LIFU)-responsive FPD@CD nanomedicine for the highly efficient treatment of vulnerable plaques by facilely loading phase transition agent perfluorohexane(PFH)into biocompatible PLGA-PEG-PLGA nanoparticles(PPP NPs)and then attaching dextran sulphate(DS)onto the surface of PPP NPs for targeting ***,as a typical macrophages-targeted molecule,can achieve the precise vaporization of NPs and subsequently controllable apoptosis of RAW 264.7 macrophages as induced by acoustic droplet vaporization(ADV)*** addition,the introduction of DiR and Fe3O4 endows nanomedicine with near-infrared fluorescence(NIRF)and magnetic resonance(MR)imaging *** engineered FPD@CD nanomedicine that uses macrophages as therapeutic targets achieve the conspicuous therapeutic effect of shrinking vulnerable plaques based on in vivo and in vitro evaluation outcomes.A reduction of 49.4%of vascular stenosis degree in gross pathology specimens were achieved throughout the treatment *** specific,efficient and biosafe treatment modality potentiates the biomedical application in patients with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases based on the relief of the plaque rupture concerns.

Fetal growth,fetal development,and placental features in women with polycystic ovary syndrome:analysis based on fetal and placental magnetic resonance imaging

Objective:Polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS),a common endocrine-metabolic dysfunction in reproductive-aged women,may be involved in compromised pregnancy and offspring *** study aimed to investigate whether maternal PCOS affects fetal growth,fetal development,and placental ***:This retrospective case-control study included 60 pregnant women with PCOS(PCOS group)and 120 healthy pregnant women without PCOS(control group).Fetal magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)was performed followed by an ultrasound examination and indications for imaging,including known or suspected fetal pathology,history of fetal abnormality in previous pregnancy or in a family member,and concern for placenta *** MRI images were analyzed for head cir-cumference(HC),abdomen circumference(AC),lung-to-liver signal intensity ratio(LLSIR,a prenatal marker of fetal lung maturity),lengths of liver and kidney diameters in fetuses,and placental relative signal intensity on T2-weighted single-shot fast spin echo(SSFSE)imaging(rSISSFSE),and placental relative apparent diffusion coefficient value(rADC).Data on height and weight of offspring were collected through telephone ***:Compared to the control group,the PCOS group showed the following characteristics:(1)smaller biparietal diameter and femur length in fetuses(P=0.026 and P=0.005,respectively),(2)smaller HC in fetuses(evident after 32 weeks;P=0.044),(3)lower LLSIR and smaller dorsoventral length of liver in fetuses(evident before 32 weeks;P=0.005 and P=0.019,respec-tively),and(4)smaller placental thickness(evident before 32 weeks;P=0.017).No significant differences in placental rSISSFSE or rADC were observed between the groups(all P>0.05).No significant differences in height and weight of offspring during childhood existed between the groups(all P>0.05).Conclusions:There exist alterations of fetal growth,fetal development,and placental features from women with PCOS.
