This paper presents a novel technique for improved voting by adaptively varying the membership boundaries of a fuzzy voter to achieve realistic consensus among inputs of redundant modules of a fault tolerant system. We demonstrate that suggested dynamic membership partitioning minimizes the number of occurrences of incorrect outputs of a voter as compared to the fixed membership partitioning voter implementations. Simulation results for the proposed voter for Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) fault tolerant system indicate that our algorithm shows better safety and availability performance as compared to the existing one. However, our voter design is general and thus it can be potentially useful for improving safety and availability of critical fault tolerant systems.

Myoepithelioma is a rare neoplasm of the salivary glands, generally occurring in the parotid gland and less often in the minor accessory salivary gland of the oral cavity. The histological appearance includes solid, myxoid and reticular growth patterns. Vimentin and S-100 protein are very sensitive but non-specific immunohistochemical markers of neoplastic myoepithelium. Conservative surgery is the treatment of choice. A case of myoepithelioma of the minor salivary gland of tongue is described, focusing on clinical behaviour, histopathological and immunohistochemical features.

Objective: To determine Eustachian tube function in tubotympanic type of chronic ear disease and to correlate Eustachian tube function with pathological change in middle ear mucosa. Materials and Methods: A prospective study of the cases of tubotympanic type of chronic suppurative otitis media was undertaken. Patients were subjected to clinical examination followed by audiometry tests and impedence audiometry to determine eustachian tube functions. Patients were then subjected to myringoplasty and eustachian tube function were then reassessed post operatively. Results: In our study, out of 30 cases who underwent myringoplasty, 21 cases had successful surgical outcome and 9 cases were failed. Out of 24 cases of good Eustachian tube function, 21 cases had successful surgical outcome intends of taking up graft, absence of otorrhea and improvement in hearing. In remaining 3 cases, there was recurrence of otorrhea with central perforation. All the 6 cases with poor Eustachian tube function had surgical failure. Conclusion: The prognosis of the middle ear reconstructive surgery has direct correlation with Eustachian tube functions and Eustachian tube function tests should be a routine investigation in all the cases planned for surgical reconstruction of the middle ear.

Use of Diode Laser in Excising Bilateral Inverted Papilloma of Paranasal Sinuses

Municipal solid waste(MSW) can have a negative impact on the environment and/or human health, if not properly managed. Though landfill is the most common method used to manage MSW, treating MSW using waste-toenergy(Wt E) technologies is an option that is receiving increasing interest. Pyrolysis is a Wt E technology that is capable of converting waste into products such as bio-gas, biooil and bio-char. Bio-char, which varies in composition based on the raw material pyrolysed, has the potential to be used as a fuel and as an applied material for catalysis or adsorption. In this work the removal of azo dye was investigated using biochar from pyrolysis of a cellulosic municipal solid waste. The bio-char was characterised using Scanning Electron Microscopy and Surface Area Analysis. The influence of p H on the dye removal was investigated over the range 4-7. The experimental data was analysed using four non-linear kinetic models(Pseudo first-order, pseudo second-order, Weber intraparticle diffusion and Elovich equation) and four non-linear isotherm models(Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Sips), and ranked based on the statistical analysis tools in origin software. The dye removal kinetics most closely followed pseudo-first order kinetics whilst the adsorption isotherms were most closely fitted by the Temkin model over the p H range studied.

The inverted papilloma is an uncommon unilateral benign unilateral tumor of the nose & paranasal sinuses. Although a benign pathology, it is associated with aggressive local destruction and recurrence after removal and malignancy. The clinical picture presents non-specific signs and symptoms, such as unilateral nasal obstruction, anosmia and headache. Treatment is essentially surgical. This report has the objective of presenting an uncommon bilateral nasal inverted papilloma and the use of diode laser in surgical excision & making a literature review. The uniqueness in our case was the use of diode laser in excision of inverted papilloma.

Cyst is a fluid accumulated in a cavity lined by epithelium. Cyst over the hard palate is very infrequent. Cyst is commonly seen along nasoalveolar duct or midline palatal cyst which are congenital. Only few cases of palatine cysts have been reported in literature. We present here a case of 21 years old male with a cystic lesion over the hard palate since 2 years.

Link between Friesinger Index and Lipid Profile in Patients Undergoing Diagnostic Coronary Angiography

Background: A strong association between abnormal lipid variables and development of atherosclerosis is widely established. However, few data exist on the association between lipid levels and the extent or severity of coronary lesions in patients with coronary artery disease. Objective: We aimed to determine the link between lipid levels and the extent or severity of coronary lesions in patients with suspected coronary artery disease using Friesinger index (FR). Methodology: In this prospective and singe-center study, consecutive patients who underwent coronary angiography for diagnostic purposes were analyzed. Each participant was evaluated for lipid levels i.e. total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) cholesterol, non-HDL cholesterol, triglycerides/ HDL cholesterol, and triglycerides/non-HDL cholesterol. The extent of coronary disease was evaluated using FR index. Results: A total of 566 patients (mean age: 56.17 ± 9.99 years) were included in the study. The mean FR index was 5.40 ± 3.78. A significantly positive correlation was observed between FR index and total cholesterol (P = 0.002), triglycerides (P < 0.001), VLDL cholesterol (P < 0.001), non-HDL cholesterol (P = 0.006), triglycerides/HDL cholesterol ratio (P = 0.008), and triglycerides/non-HDL cholesterol ratio (P = 0.002). On the contrary, an inverse correlation was observed between FR index and HDL cholesterol (P < 0.001). Age or gender played no role in governing the FR index severity, while body-mass index, hypertension, diabetes, and smoking showed significant association with FR index (P < 0.001 for all). Conclusion: The present study demonstrates a significant link between the extent of coronary artery disease and levels of certain lipid variables.
