Al2O3 and CeO2-promoted MgO sorbents for CO2 capture at moderate temperatures

A series of Al2O3 and CeO2 modified MgO sorbents was prepared and studied for CO2 sorption at moderate temperatures. The CO2 sorption capacity of MgO was enhanced with the addition of either Al2O3 or CeO2. Over Al2O3-MgO sorbents, the best capacity of 24.6 mg- CO2/g-sorbent was attained at 100 ℃, which was 61% higher than that of MgO （15.3 mg-CO2/g-sorbent）. The highest capacity of 35.3 mg-CO2/g-sorbent was obtained over the CeO2-MgO sorbents at the optimal temperature of 200 ℃. Combining with the characterization results, we conclude that the promotion effect on CO2 sorption with the addition of Al2O3 and CeO2 can be attributed to the increased surface area with reduced MgO crystallite size. Moreover, the addition of CeO2 increased the basicity of MgO phase, resulting in more increase in the CO2 capacity than Al2O3 promoter. Both the Al2O3-MgO and CeO2- MgO sorbents exhibited better cyclic stability than MgO over the course of fifteen CO2 sorption-desorption cycles. Compared to Al2O3, CeO2 is more effective for promoting the CO2 capacity of MgO. To enhance the CO2 capacity of MgO sorbent, increasing the basicity is more effective than the increase in the surface area.

We give a differential-geometric construction of Calabi-Yau fourfolds by the‘doubling’method,which was introduced in Doi and Yotsutani(N Y J Math 20:1203-1235,2014)to construct Calabi-Yau *** also give examples of Calabi-Yau fourfolds from toric Fano *** in our construction are admissible pairs,which were first dealt with by Kovalev(J Reine Angew Math 565:125-160,2003).Here in this paper an admissible pair(X,D)consists of a compact Kähler manifold X and a smooth anticanonical divisor D on *** two admissible pairs(X_(1),D_(1))and(X_(2),D_(2))with dimC X_(i)=4 satisfy the gluing condition,we can glue X_(1)\D_(1)and X_(2)\D_(2)together to obtain a compact Riemannian 8-manifold(M,g)whose holonomy group Hol(g)is contained in Spin(7).Furthermore,if theA-genus of M equals 2,then M is a Calabi-Yau fourfold,i.e.,a compact Ricci-flat Kähler fourfold with holonomy SU(4).In particular,if(X_(1),D_(1))and(X_(2),D_(2))are identical to an admissible pair(X,D),then the gluing condition holds automatically,so that we obtain a compact Riemannian 8-manifold M with holonomy contained in Spin(7).Moreover,we show that if the admissible pair is obtained from any of the toric Fano fourfolds,then the resulting manifold M is a Calabi-Yau fourfold by computing^A(M)=2.

Animals rotate their eyes to gaze at the target prey, enhancing the ability of measuring the distance to the target precisely for catching it. These animals, visual tracking includes the triangular eye-vergence control and their body＇s motion control by visual servoing. The research aims to realize a bionic robot tracking perfor- mance, in which the body links moves together with eyes＇ view orientation. This paper proposed a hand ＆ eye-ver- gence dual control system which included two feedback loops： an outer loop for conventional visual servoing to direct a manipulator toward a target object and an inner loop for active motion control of binocular cameras to change the viewpoint along with the moving object to give an accurate and broad observation. This research also foused on how to compensate a fictional motion of the target seen by camera images in an eye-in-hand system, where the camera was fixed on the end-effector and moved together with the hand motion. A robust motion-feedfor- ward （MFF） recognition method is proposed to compensate the fictional motion of the target based on the manipula- tor＇s joint velocity, then the real motion of the target seen by camera images is extracted, which can improve the feedback image sensing unit to make the whole servoing system dynamically stable. The effectiveness of the pro- posed hand ＆ eye-vergence visual servoing method is shown by tracking experiments using a 6-DoF robot manipulator and a 3-DoF binocular vision system.

Sediment organic matter source estimation and ecological classification in the semi-enclosed Batan Bay Estuary, Philippines

The large organic matter flow in tropical coastal areas is recognized as an important process in the global carbon(C) ***,the nature of organic matter flow in semi-enclosed tropical estuaries remains unclear due to the various environmental processes(tidal change,river flow,waves from the sea,and internal circulation) and organic matter sources ***,sediment organic matter(SOM) sources,and their distribution pattern,are key to understanding ecosystem material *** research in the Batan Bay Estuary,Philippines,a semi-enclosed estuary under large mangrove deforestation,was conducted to determine ecosystem properties through analysis of C and nitrogen stable isotope ratios and environmental ***,we determined that mangrove litter,microphytobenthos,and phytoplankton are the main SOM sources in the Batan Bay ***,the estuary was classified into three ecological zones(the Bay zone,Back-barrier zone,and River zone).In addition,we estimated SOM source ratios using the Stable Isotope Analysis in R package and determined different organic matter sources in different *** high ratios of mangrove litter as SOM indicate that a large amount of terrestrial plant organic matter remains despite the heavy mangrove deforestation that has occurred since the 1980 s,and that the Back-barrier zone consists of a different type of ecosystem that promotes accumulation of C from mangrove litter and micro phytobenthos.

Rikkunshito improves globus sensation in patients with proton-pump inhibitor-refractory laryngopharyngeal reflux

AIM: To investigate the effect of rikkunshito on laryngopharyngeal reflux(LPR) symptoms and gastric emptying in patients with proton-pump inhibitor(PPI)refractory ***: In total,22 patients with LPR were *** a 2-wk treatment with PPI monotherapy,PPI-refractory LPR patients were randomly divided into two treatment groups(rikkunshito alone or rikkunshito plus the PPI,lansoprazole).LPR symptoms were assessed using a visual analog scale(VAS) score,gastrointestinal symptoms were assessed using the gastrointestinal symptom rating scale(GSRS),and gastric emptying was assessed using the radio-opaque marker method prior to and 4 wk following ***: The 4-wk treatment with rikkunshito alone and with rikkunshito plus the PPI significantly decreased the globus sensation VAS *** VAS score for sore throat was significantly decreased following treatment with rikkunshito plus PPI but not by rik kunshito *** treatment significantly changed the GSRS *** improved delayed gastric *** found a significant positive correlation between improvements in globus sensation and in gastric emptying(r2= 0.4582,P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: Rikkunshito improved globus sensation in patients with PPI-refractory LPR,in part,because of stimulation of gastric ***,rikkunshito is an effective treatment for PPI-refractory LPR.

Pristine and Bi-doped lanthanum titanium oxide(La_(2)Ti_(2)O_(7))nanosheets have been synthesized as photocatalysts for overall solar water *** surface hole trap is a critical factor that limits the photocatalytic activity of pristine La_(2)Ti_(2)O_(7)-Deposition of cobalt phosphate(Co-Pi)and platinum(Pt)nanoparticles on La_(2)Ti_(2)O_(7) cannot remove the surface traps although they are essential for enabling the oxygen and hydrogen evolution *** is interesting that doping bismuth(Bi)into La_(2)Ti_(2)O_(7) nanosheets has eliminated the surface traps due to surface enrichment of *** Co-Pi/Bi-La_(2)Ti_(2)O_(7)/Pt nanosheets exhibit increasing photocatalytic activity toward overall water splitting with increasing the Bi-dopant level up to 5 at.%.Further increasing the Bi-dopant level leads to the formation of localized states above the valence band,leading to the lifetime reduction of photogenerated charge-carriers,and jeopardizing the photocatalytic *** work proposes an effective strategy to address the surface trapping and surface catalysis issues in the nanostructured metal oxide photocatalysts.

Reevaluation of the Taxonomic Status of a Poorly Known Gecko, Gekko liboensis(Reptilia: Squamata)

Gekko liboensis Zhou and Li, 1982 is a poorly known gecko originating from Libo, Guizhou, southern China. Since the original description based on a single female from Libo, only three specimens（two females and one juvenile） have been reported from the type locality. Because of its close morphological resemblance to G. hokouensis Pope, 1927, G. liboensis is required to be reevaluated for its taxonomic status by studies based on additional specimens. Here we report for the first time the morphological features of 31 newly obtained specimens of G. liboensis from type locality and others, including males, and compare them with those of related species, chiefly on the basis of information from the literature. In addition, specimen-based comparisons were also made with G. hokouensis and an undescribed cryptic species known from the Ryukyus Islands, Japan. Results showed that the species is distinguished from its congeners in having a larger body size（60–91 mm）, 0–2 small internasals, 10–13 supralabials, 10–13 infralabials, smooth enlarged tubercles present on the dorsum forming 4–10 irregular rows at the midbody but absent on the four limbs and tail, both fingers and toes without developed interdigital webs, a single cloacal spur on each side, and 10–12 precloacal pores in males. It most resembles G. hokouensis and its cryptic species but is clearly differentiated by having a larger body size, a predominantly absent internasal, fewer number of dorsal tubercle rows, larger number of precloacal pores, and conspicuous white marks on the dorsum and head. Judging from these results, we confirmed the taxonomic validity of G. liboensis. In addition, the geographic distribution of this gecko on the basis of obtained data was briefly discussed.

Radiation exposure during image-guided endoscopic procedures: The next quality indicator for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP) is one of the most frequently used image-guided procedures in gastrointestinal endoscopy. Post-ERCP pancreatitis is an important concern, and prophylaxis, cannulation and other related technical procedures have been well documented by endoscopists. In addition, medical radiation exposure is of great concern in the general population because of its rapidly increasing frequency and its potential carcinogenic effects. International organizations and radiological societies have established diagnostic reference levels, which guide proper radiation use and serve as global standards for all procedures that use ionizing radiation. However, data on gastrointestinal fluoroscopic procedures are still lacking because the demand for these procedures has recently increased. In this review, we present the current status of quality indicators for ERCP and the methods for measuring radiation exposure in the clinical setting as the next quality indicator for ERCP. To reduce radiation exposure, knowledge of its adverse effects and the procedures for proper measurement and protection are essential. Additionally, further studies on the factors that affect radiation exposure, exposure management and diagnostic reference levels are necessary. Then, we can discuss how to manage medical radiation use inthese complex fluoroscopic procedures. This knowledge will help us to protect not only patients but also endoscopists and medical staff in the fluoroscopy unit.
