In many outbreaks, patients and healthcare workers are particularly at risk from nosocomial infections as a result of non-effective disinfection methods. With increasing incidence of viral infections such as severe acute respiratory syndrome, in one hand, and the increase in the rate of antibiotic resistant bacteria associated with nosocomial infections in other hand, there is a need to design novel engineering tools for inactivation of nosocomial pathogens. Ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) is considered as a promising method to inactivate bacteria and viruses. This paper presents UV-C Based disinfection tools monitored by mobile application, designed for hospital and Epidemic Treatment Center. The evolution of the irradiation intensity over time was evaluated, and the theorical disinfection duration for several nosocomial pathogens was determined. In the case of SARS-CoV2, less than 12 minutes were needed to achieve 99.99% viral reduction in a room of 36 sqm.

A bifacial silicon solar cell under monochromatic illumination in frequency modulation by the rear side is being studied for the optimization of base thickness. The density of photogenerated carriers in the base is obtained by resolution of the continuity equation, with the help of boundary conditions at the junction surface (n+/p) and the rear face (p/p+) of the base. For a short wavelength corresponding to a high absorption coefficient, the AC photocurrent density is calculated and represented according to the excess minority carrier’s recombination velocity at the junction, for different modulation frequency values. The expression of the AC recombination velocity of excess minority carriers at the rear surface of the base of the solar cell is then deduced, depending on both, the absorption coefficient of the silicon material and the thickness of the base. Compared to the intrinsic AC recombination velocity, the optimal thickness is extracted and modeled in a mathematical relationship, as a decreasing function of the modulated frequency of back illumination. Thus under these operating conditions, a maximum short-circuit photocurrent is obtained and a low-cost bifacial solar cell can be achieved by reducing material (Si) to elaborate the base thickness.

Excess minority carrier’s diffusion equation in the base of monofaciale silicon solar cell under frequency modulation of monochromatic illumination is resolved. Using conditions at the base limits involving recombination velocities Sf and Sb, respectively at the junction (n+/p) and back surface (p+/p), the AC expression of the excess minority carriers’ density δ (T, ω) is determined. The AC density of photocurrent Jph (T, ω) is represented versus recombination velocity at the junction for different values of the temperature. The expression of the AC back surface recombination velocity Sb of minority carriers is deduced depending on the frequency of modulation, temperature, the electronic parameters (D (ω)) and the thickness of the base. Bode and Nyquist diagrams are used to analyze it.

The modelling and determination of the geometric parameters of a solar cell are important data, which influence the evaluation of its performance under specific operating conditions, as well as its industrial development for a low cost. In this work, an n+/p/p+ crystalline silicon solar cell is studied under monochromatic illumination in modulation and placed in a constant magnetic field. The minority carriers’ diffusion coefficient (D(ω, B), in the (p) base leads to maximum values (Dmax) at resonance frequencies (ωr). These values are used in expressions of AC minority carriers recombination velocity (Sb(Dmax, H)) in the rear of the base, to extract the optimum thickness while solar cell is subjected to these specific conditions. Optimum thickness modelling relationships, depending respectively on Dmax, ωr and B, are then established, and will be data for industrial development of low-cost solar cells for specific use.

Bat 26 Microsatellite Instability in Oral Cavity Cancers in Senegal

Oral cavity cancers are part of head and neck cancers. They have become frequent in the world in general and Senegal in particular. This study evaluates microsatellite instability tumors in oral cavity cancers in Senegal. Forty cancerous tissues, 20 healthy tissues, and 12 blood tissues were included in this study. These tissues were collected from each patient during the biopsy after obtaining consent. DNA extraction, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and sequencing were carried out to obtain sequences. Mutation surveyor, Bioedit and Dnasp software were used to perform our analyses. High instability was found in 57.5% of patients with cancer. Moreover, 90% of the patients had the same motif on healthy and cancerous tissue. Furthermore, 26.12%, 20.72%, and 11.71% polymorphic sites were found in cancerous, healthy and blood tissue respectively. Thus, a similarity between cancerous and healthy tissues seems to exist. This implies that instability of the Bat 26 microsatellite could occur early in the occurrence of oral cavity cancers.

Acute Coronary Syndromes in Semi-Urban African Areas: Clinical Aspects and Management in Ziguinchor (Senegal)

Context and Objectives: Acute coronary syndromes (ACS) constitute a major medical emergency. In Senegal, outside the capital Dakar, there is a lack of appropriate care structures. The objective of this work was to study the ACS treatment in the city of Ziguinchor. Methodology: This was a retrospective study of acute coronary syndromes’ cases admitted to the two-level two hospitals in the city of Ziguinchor from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2019. We included all patients with acute angina pain at rest and/or electrocardiographic changes in at least two contiguous leads. The data were analysed using sphinx V5 software. Results: 57 cases were collected. The average age was 60.1 ± 14.1 years. There was a male predominance with a sex ratio of 3.7. The majority of patients arrived at the hospital by unsafe delivery (70.5%). Symptomatology was dominated by typical angina pain (50.8%). On the electrocardiogram, a majority of acute coronary syndromes with ST segment shift were observed (70.2%). Doppler echocardiography found abnormalities in segmental kinetics in 69.8% of cases. The troponin dosage was performed in 7 patients, i.e. 12.3%. The average time of treatment was 3.4 ± 4.5 days. Medical treatment remained standard and no patient was thrombosed. Factors Associated with Oligohydramnios and Related Neonatal Morbidity and Mortality: A Nested Case-Control Study in a Cohort

Objective: To study the factors associated with oligohydramnios and its related neonatal morbidity and mortality. Materials and Methods: This was a 10-year retrospective nested case-control study conducted at a level 2 maternity ward. Given that the prevalence of oligohydramnios ranges between 0.5% and 8%, the sample size of the cases was calculated using the following formula: n = (z/∆)2 × p(1 − p). We selected 20 controls for each case. Data were exported to Excel and analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and R Studio 4.1.3 software. The maximal deepest pocket of amniotic fluid or the amniotic fluid index was used to establish the diagnosis. Qualitative variables were described as proportions relative to the total. Data were compared using the chi-square test when normality conditions were met or non-parametric tests otherwise. The significance threshold was set at 0.05. Results: Out of a cohort of 56,775 deliveries, we collected 145 cases of oligohydramnios and 2953 controls. The prevalence of preeclampsia was seven times higher in cases of oligohydramnios (OR = 7.7 [5.12;11.7]). The prevalence of small-for-gestational-age (SGA) fetuses was four times higher in the case group (OR = 4.3 [3.04;6.21]). Oligohydramnios were associated with an increased risk of labor artificial induction and cesarean sections respectively 4.51 ([2.95;6.99]) and 3.41 ([3.03;3.78]). Perinatal asphyxia was nearly three times more frequent in children born in the context of oligohydramnios (OR = 2.7 [1.38;5.30]). Vaginal delivery and SGA were not associated with neonatal morbidity or mortality in cases of oligohydramnios. Conclusion: Oligohydramnios is associated with obstetric pathologies and increased neonatal morbidity and mortality. However, vaginal delivery and labor induction do not impact neonatal morbidity and mortality. The risk of perinatal asphyxia in oligohydramnios requires special monitoring in the delivery room. Physicochemical investigations were performed on seeds of Nymphea lotus and N. micrantha consumed in the Senegal River valley. They revealed a composition similar to that of cereals. In order to estimate their intrinsic quality, the determination of their amino acid, fatty acid and monosaccharids profiles was done. The results indicate that monosaccharides are represented specifically by saccharose (7%) and glucose (0.67%);a predominance of stearic acid and linoleic acid as unsaturated acids (24.86%);arachidic and palmitic acids as the only saturated acid found (11.12%);a good ratio of unsaturated/saturated acid (2.23);a lack of oleic acid, linoleic, palmitoleic, myristic, caprylic acids;a poor-quality index protein due to low quantity amino acids. Nevertheless, all essential amino acids are present in the seeds. The Nymphea sp grains consumed by the populations around the Senegal River valley offer an interesting nutritional quality linked to fatty acids and carbohydrates.

Studies conducted in the delta and lower valley of Senegal river have demonstrated through ethnobotanical surveys, the importance of Nymphaea lotus L. and Nymphaea micrantha Guill. et Perr in the diet and in the pharmacopoeia. The seeds are used with good appreciation by the indigenous population as a welding food. But studies addressing their biochemical and nutritional aspects are still very rare in the literature. This study was initiated in order to fill this gap and allow a better appreciation of the nutritional and energetic potentialities of these seeds. For this purpose, seeds were collected in effluent from the Senegal River, dried in the shade and put into three different batches: a batch of red seeds of N. lotus, a batch of Black seeds of N. lotus and a batch of seeds of N. micrantha. The biochemical analyses gave their moisture content (9.17% ± 0.2% to 13.36% ± 3.46%), aw (0.46% to 0.71%), protein (7.90% ± 1.25% to 8.24% ± 0.5%), lipid (2.32% ± 0.45% to 4.29% ± 1.0%), carbohydrate (74.49% ± 0.9% and 77.66% ± 1.65%), mineral matter (1.77% ± 0.06% to 2.55% ± 0.08%). All three types of seeds have high levels of potassium (481.10% ± 17.62% to 770.81% ± 42.33%), magnesium (312.71% ± 14.08% to 518.67% ± 15.23%) and calcium (188.81% ± 8.52% to 296.52% ± 16%. Their energy values (350.54 ± 15.21 kcal/100g to 375.7 ± 3.48 Kcal/100g), are closed to other cereals consumed in the human diet in Senegal. Therefore, these seeds offer the opportunity to diversify the diet in the delta and lower valley of the Senegal River.
