N-Butylpyridoquinoxaline 1,4-dioxide (NBPQD) as a new potent for tum.r im.ging and therapy

The developm.nt of new and effective antitum.r agents is one of the m.in goals of m.dicinal and biochem.cal research at present. The present study is concerned with the evaluation of the previously synthesized N-Butylpyridoquinoxaline 1,4-dioxide (NBPQD) as an antitum.r agent against Ehrlich ascites carcinom. (EAC). The first part of the study (tum.r im.ging) was to investigate the biodistribution of NBPQD in the organs of EAC-bearing m.ce using iodine-125 isotope stressing on its distribution in the m.in organs (stom.ch, liver, spleen, kidney) in addition to blood and ascetic fluid. The second part was the assessm.nt of the antitum.r activity of NBPQD by estim.ting the tum.r volum. and the contents of total protein, total lipid, DNA and RNA in liver tissues. In addition, liver function tests and the redox status were assessed. Tum.r volum. and DNA, RNA, urea and m.londialdehyde (m.A) levels and the liver enzym.s activity were highly significantly increased (P m.ce com.ared to control. However, total lipid and total protein in liver tissues in addition to serum.album.n, glucose, reduced glutathione (GSH) as well as activities of glutathione reductase (GSH-R) and superoxide dism.tase (SOD) all were highly significantly decreased in untreated EAC-bearing m.ce com.ared to controls. All these decreased param.ters were highly significantly restored to their norm.l levels in NBPQD treated m.ce com.ared to the untreated EAC-bearing m.ce. The survival tim. of the NBPQD treated m.ce was longer than that of the untreated ones. It is thus, evident that NBPQD had a rem.rkable antitum.r activity against EAC in Swiss albino m.ce.

Geochem.stry of lam.rophyres associated with uranium.m.neralization, Southeastern Desert, Egypt

Two brecciated shear zones (NNW-SSE) are found crosscutting cataclastic rocks. The cataclastic rocks (3.0 km.) occupy the core of the granitic pluton and enclose a roof pendant of m.fic-ultram.fic rocks. The NNW-SSE-extending lam.rophyre dykes vary in thickness from.0.5 m.to 1 m.and up to 800 m.long, cutting the cataclastic rocks and are com.osed m.inly of plagioclases, am.hiboles, relics of pyroxenes and K-feldspar phenocrysts em.edded in fine-grained groundm.ss. They are characterized as being peralum.nous, calc-alkaline in com.osition (chem.cal trap) and enriched in calcite, sulfide and P2O5. The lam.rophyres were affected by hydrotherm.l alteration (chlorite-carbonate alteration) while the cataclastic rocks were affected by diagenetic alteration (K-feldspar-albite alteration). Uranium.m.neralization is the product of hydrotherm.l events and has been investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and environm.ntal scanning electron m.croscopy (ESEm., involving prim.ry uranium.m.nerals (U3O8) and secondary uranium.m.nerals (uranophane and beta-uranophane, kasolite, torbernite, autonite and m.ta-autonite) in addition to U- bearing m.nerals (astrocyanite, betafite and fergusonite). The presence of different m.neral parageneses associated with clay m.nerals indicates that the lam.rophyres were subjected to acidic and alkaline m.neralizing solutions. m.reover, the U-Zr/U, U-Ce/U values show negative correlations, confirm.ng U-enrichm.nt in both cataclastic rocks and shear zones while the Th-eU/eTh, Th-Zr/Th and Th-Ce/Th values show negative correlations, indicating that the U-bearing solutions are rich in Th in the cataclastic rocks only.

Objective:Hepatocellular carcinom.(HCC)is the fifth m.st com.on m.lignancy *** identification of new sim.le,inexpensive and highly accurate m.rkers for HCC diagnosis and screening is *** case-control study evaluates the role of annexin A2 and voltage-gated calcium.channelsα2δ1 subunit as serum.biom.rkers for HCC ***:The study com.rised three groups:group 1,50 patients with an initial diagnosis of HCC associated with chronic hepatitis C virus infection;group 2,25 patients diagnosed with chronic hepatitis C virus infection and cirrhosis without any evidence of HCC;and group 3,15 healthy *** participants were subjected to clinical and laboratory investigations,and radiological *** serum.levels of alpha-fetoprotein(AFP),annexin A2,and theα2δ1 subunit were evaluated by using elISA ***:The serum.levels of annexin A2 significantly increased in patients with HCC(10.4±2.5 ng/m.L;Pm.L;Pm.aring to that of healthy controls(0.296±0.09 ng/m.L).However,there was no significant difference in serum.annexin A2 levels in patients with HCC com.aring to those with ***α2δ1 subunit significantly increased in patients with HCC(20.12±3.7 ng/m.L)com.aring to that in patients with cirrhosis(10.41±3.4 ng/m.L,Pm.L,Pm.2δ1 subunit m.y function as a new biom.rker for HCC ***,serum.annexin A2 has low diagnostic value as an HCC m.rker,especially in patients with underlying cirrhosis.

This work presents a hybrid power system.consisting of photovoltaic and solid oxide fuel cell(PV-SOFC)for electricity production and hydrogen *** sim.lation of this hybrid system.is adjusted for Bou-Zedjar city in north *** software was used for this sim.lation to calculate the power output and the total net present *** m.thod used depends on the annual average m.nthly values of clearness index and radiation for which the energy contributions are determ.ned for each com.onent of PV/SOFC hybrid *** econom.c study is m.re im.ortant criterion in the proposed hybrid system.and the results show that the cost is very suitable for the use of this hybrid system.which ensures that the area is fed continuously with the sufficient energy for the load which assum.d to be 500 kW in the peak *** optim.zed results of the present study show that the photovoltaic is capable of generating 8733 kW electricity while the SOFC produces 500 kW *** electrolyzer is capable of producing 238750 kg of hydrogen which is used as fuel in the SOFC to com.ensate the energy lack in nights and during peak season.

Using Lean m.nufacturing(Lm.tools in production processes is crucial for com.anies’econom.c,environm.ntal,and social sustainability *** study shows a structural equation m.del(SEm.that shows the relationship between Lm.Tools like Kaizen(KAI),Gem.a(GEm.,Value Stream.m.pping(VSm.and Key Perform.nce Indicator(KPI)with Econom.c Sustainability(ECS).Seven hypotheses were evaluated with data from.179 responses to a questionnaire about the m.xican m.quiladora industry,showing that these variables are *** a 95%confidence level,the m.del was evaluated using the partial least squares *** findings indicate that the relationships between KAI and GEm.and KAI and VSm.have the strongest relationship,followed by VSm.and ECS;however,VSm.has the strongest effect on *** on these findings,it is recom.ended that m.nagers adopt a continuous im.rovem.nt(KAI)approach based on working directly on the shop floor(GEm.and VSm.to support their decisions regarding econom.c growth(ECS).

Functional and anatom.cal evaluation of the effect of nepafenac in prevention of m.cular edem. after phacoem.lsification in diabetic patients

AIm. To evaluate the effect of prophylactic adm.nistration of nepafenac in prevention of m.cular edem. occurring in diabetic patients after phacoem.lsification and to investigate the correlation between optical coherence tom.graphy(OCT) foveal thickness and m.ltifocal electroretinogram.m.-ERG) ***: The study included two groups. Group 1 included 50 diabetic patients with senile cataract(50 eyes, 30 fem.les, 20 m.les, aged 55±7 y) received nepafenac 0.1% eye drop. Group 2 included another 50 diabetic patients with senile cataract(50 eyes, 22 fem.le, 28 m.les, aged 53.8±8 y) did not receive nepafenac. All patients were followed up for 3 m. postoperatively. OCT and m.-ERG were done preoperative and at 1 wk, 1, 2 and 3 ***: The m.an foveal thickness was statistically significantly lower in Group 1. Five eyes in Group 2 developed clinical cystoid m.cular oedem.(Cm.)(10%), and no patients in Group 1 developed central m.cular thickening m.re than 50 μm. There were insignificant differences in m.-ERG am.litudes and latencies between the two groups except in the five eyes that developed Cm., there statistically significant reduction of m.-ERG am.litude with increase in foveal thickness. CONCLUSION: Perioperative nepafenac reduces the incidence of Cm. following uncom.licated phacoem.lsification significantly. Nepafenac has no side effects.

Postoperative Radiotherapy in Bladder Cancer Patients: 5-Year Institutional Experience of National Cancer Institute, Cairo University

Purpose: Adjuvant radiation therapy could reduce loco regional failure, but currently has no defined role because of previously reported m.rbidity. NCI-Cairo routine work is to give adjuvant PORT for locally advanced bladder carcinom. patients. The aim.of this work is to re-evaluate this protocol regarding its effect on prognosis and com.lications. Patients and m.thod: A retrospective study included 208 patients with pathologically proven bladder cancer who presented to the NCI, Cairo University from.2007-2011. All of them.underwent RC with bilateral PLND followed by conventional post-operative radiotherapy in 2 - 6 weeks after surgery for 5000 cGy in 25 fractions, over 5 weeks using 2D technique. Analysis of data from.their files was done for the treatm.nt results, prognostic factors and com.lications. Results: Three years overall survival (OS) and disease free survival (DFS) for the whole group was ~60%, and 54% respectively in favour of the fem.le gender, non-sm.kers, Squam.us cell carcinom. patients, low grade tum.urs (grade 1 and 2) negative m.rgins, N0, pT2b and early stage group showed the best prognoses. The 3 years m.tastases free survival (m.S) was ~71%. Only four factors showed a significant relation with the m.S which were the grade, LN status, T-stage and group staging. The local recurrence rate (LRC) at 2 years for the whole group was ~95% and 94% at 3 years. Only surgical m.rgin status and extent of LN dissection had a significant im.act on the LRC. Conclusions: Adjuvant radiotherapy shows sustained im.rovem.nt in the loco regional control, and should be recom.ended for patients with locally advanced disease especially those with less than 10 dissected lym.h nodes and those with positive m.rgins.

Influence of Boron Additions on m.chanical Properties of Carbon Steel

This work aim. at the developm.nt of carbon steel AISI 1536 through the m.croalloying addition of boron. Three grades of this steel with different content of boron up to 0.0055% were m.lted in 100 kg induction furnace. The pro- duced steels were hardened at 960°C for 30 m.n., followed by tem.ering at different tem.eratures and durations. All hardened steels have m.rtensite phase as illustrated with m.crostructures and X-ray diffraction. Hardness of all tem. pered steel sam.les was m.asured to calculate the activation energies of carbon m.gration through m.rtensite phase. The results indicated that the activation energies of carbon m.gration through m.rtensite phase decreases with the in- crease of boron content due to its positive effect on the crystallinity of m.rtensite phase. Also, the results showed that the addition of boron up to 0.0023% can im.rove the steel properties at the lowest tem.erature and tem.ered tim..

Effect of Titanium.Addition on Behavior of m.dium.Carbon Steel

This work aim. at investigating the influence of titanium.addition on behavior of m.dium.carbon steel. Three types of m.dium.carbon steel with different titanium.content and one reference steel titanium.free were produced in 100 kg induction furnace. Titanium.addition was increased up to 0.230%. The produced steels were forged at start tem.erature 1150°C. Forging process was finished at tem.eratures 900°C, 975°C, and 1050°C. m.crostructure exam.nation and hardness m.asurem.nt were carried out for forged steels. m.chanical properties and im.act m.asurem.nts were carried out for quenched tem.ered steels. Ti addition was found to have significant influence on refinem.nt of grains and increase of ferrite/pearlite ratio. It was also, observed that grain size decreases as finishing tem.erature of forging process decreases. Both Ti addition and lowering finishing forging tem.erature have positive effect on hardness. In addition, results indicated that addition of titanium.has significant effect on the m.chanical properties and toughness.

Increasing dem.nds for ultrahigh-strength steels in com.ercial as well as m.litary applications have raised interest in finding alternatives to the high-cost high-alloyed steel and super-alloys currently used, e.g. the use of econom.c low-alloy com.ositions processed via low-cost air induction m.lting and electroslag refining (ESR). In this work the yield of alloying elem.nts and the rem.val of the im.urities nitrogen, sulphur and phosphorus as a result of electroslag refining (ESR) in a newly developed CrNim.Wm.V ultrahigh-strength steel (UHSS) have been studied in relation to their activities in the m.lten m.tal pool. Six experim.ntal heats of CrNim.Wm.V UHSS with different chem.cal com.ositions were designed, m.lted in an induction furnace (IF) and refined using ESR. This was followed by hot forging of the ingots at 1100°C to 950°C. ESR using a CaF2-CaO-Al2O3 slag system.led to a high yield in Cr, Ni, m., W, m. and V, while the yield of Si is low. The desulphurization of all six UHSS grades was pronounced with m.st of the sulphur rem.ved either to the slag or by gas reactions. The degree of dephosphorization was only 5% irrespective of the steel com.osition. On the other hand, denitrification (rem.val of nitrogen) was achieved. It ranged from.8% to 63% depending on the steel com.osition. The yield of the alloying elem.nts and rem.val of im.urities from.the steel during ESR depends on the chem.cal and physical properties of the ESR slag and the activity of the elem.nts in the m.lten state, taking into account elem.ntal interactions.
