Introduction: Obliterative arterial disease of the lower limbs is a marker of advanced atherosclerosis. It is one of the world’s most common cardiovascular diseases, present in one in five people over the age of 60, and carries an increased risk of morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge of patients and their carers about obliterative arteriopathy of the lower limbs at Conakry University Hospital. Material and Methods: We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study lasting 3 months, from March 12 to June 12, 2022 in the hospitals of the University Hospital of Conakry (Donka and Ignace Deen). Following free and informed consent, they were interviewed on the basis of a pre-established questionnaire. Socio-demographic data (age, gender, level of education) were collected, and knowledge of obliterative arterial disease of the lower limbs. Results: The study involved 159 people, comprising 106 patients (66.66%) and 53 accompanying persons (33.34%) in the hospitals of the University Hospital of Conakry (Donka and Ignace Deen). The 60 to 79 age group was the most represented (44.7%), with an average age of 55.4 ± 15.9 years and extremes of 20 to 84 years. Half (47.8%) had not attended school, and almost all (96.4%) of those who had attended school had a low level of education (primary and secondary). Almost all of them (91.2%) had never heard of AOMI. Only 5% identified at least one risk factor, diabetes, hypertension and smoking. Amputation was the most frequently identified complication. About 98% did not know that AOMI is associated with myocardial infarction and stroke, and 93.7% did not know of any complications. Almost all the participants (99.4%) had poor knowledge of the following complications. Conclusion: Obliterative arterial disease of the lower limbs could be prevented or delayed by screening and controlling risk factors. This research work involves a comparative study of satellite rainfall and synoptic observations in the Republic of Guinea over a 30-year *** methodology used consists,firstly,in assessing rainfall trends over the study period in Guinea’s four natural regions,using the temporal averages of the three stations located in each ***,we calculated the correlations between synoptic and satellite observation data,in order to determine the links between them on the basis of data *** results for synoptic stations on average seasonal rainfall cycles and satellite products show that in Lower Guinea,the CRU(Climatic Research Unit)and GPCC(Global Precipitation Climatology Center)data are good estimates of *** the Fouta Djallon region,they also estimate observations well,but at two synoptic stations,with the exception of Mamou,they underestimate *** Upper Guinea,during the monsoon period,satellites give a good estimate of rainfall in this *** the forest region,these products show highly variable behavior,sometimes underestimating and sometimes overestimating observations,depending on the stations in the zone.

Nuclear erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2) is a central regulator of antioxidative response elements-mediated gene expression. It has a significant role in adaptive responses to oxidative stress by interacting with the antioxidant response element, which induces the expression of a variety of downstream targets aimed at cytoprotection. Previous studies suggested oxidative stress and associated damage could represent a common link between different forms of diseases. Oxidative stress has been implicated in various liver diseases, including viral hepatitis, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease/steatohepatitis, alcoholic liver disease and drug-induced liver injury. Nrf2 activation is initiated by oxidative or electrophilic stress, and aids in the detoxification and elimination of potentially harmful exogenous chemicals and their metabolites. The expression of Nrf2 has been observed throughout human tissue, with high expression in detoxification organs, especially the liver. Thus, Nrf2 may serve as a major regulator of several cellular defense associated pathways by which hepatic cells combat oxidative stress. We review the relevant literature concerning the crucial role of Nrf2 and its signaling pathways against oxidative stress to protect hepatic cell from oxidative damage during development of common chronic liver diseases. We also review the use of Nrf2 as a therapeutic target to prevent and treat liver diseases.

Temporary ponds play substantial roles in preserving biodiversity in the *** study investigated the influence of anthropic and eco-hydrological factors on the plant diversity around two grazed ponds and one ungrazed pond in Ferlo,northern *** phytoecological transects were established per *** each transect,homogenous herbaceous vegetation units were identified and characterized(herbaceous cover,exposure,soil texture,soil moisture and pH,average height and slope).The herbaceous flora comprised 55 species,41 genera and 22 families across the three *** of the Poaceae,particularly Eragrostis tremula and Enteropogon prieurii,mostly colonized the grazed ponds,while the ungrazed pond favored other families’species such as Achyranthes sp.,Commelina forsskaolii,Corchorus *** Shannon’s diversity index(H′)of Wendu Marodi(ungrazed pond)was slightly higher(4.9 bits)than that of Belel Lougal and Belel Sow(grazed ponds)with 4.8 and 4.5 bits,*** equitability indices were relatively high in the three ponds(0.85,0.83 and 0.78).Eco-ecological factors distinguished four species’groupings:a Tribulus terrestris grouping colonizing the constraining and over-grazed zones,a Digitaria horizontalis grouping,and Chloris barbata grouping found in the transition zones,and an Achyranthes aspera grouping in the wetlands,where woody plants were strongly present and the anthropic action *** study highlighted the importance of maintaining a landscape mosaic of ungrazed or semi-protected ponds and grazed ponds to preserve the herbaceous floristic diversity in the center of Ferlo(Senegal)and the Sahel in general.

Context and Object: Late nephrology case management for patients with chronic renal failure is consistently associated with high morbidity rate. The objectives of this study were to determine the factors associated with late nephrology case management and to describe the evolution of patients depending on the time of care nephrology. Material and Methods: It was a 5-year prospective study, observational type, going from January 1st, 2010 to December 31th, 2014. We studied all the patients hospitalized with chronic renal failure with dialysis or not and we excluded the patients hospitalized for acute renal failure. Results: The study population includes 307 men (53.4%) and 268 women (46.6%) with a sex ratio of 1.14. Age population ranged between 15 and 85 years old with a mean of 44.4 ± 16.20 years old. Their profession was distributed as follows: 220 housewives (38.3%), 181 workers (31.5%), 104 civil servants (18.1%), 56 students (9.7%) and 14 unemployed (2.4%). Patients came from all regions of the country: Conakry: 389 patients (67.6%);Lower Guinea: 82 (14.3%);Middle-Guinea: 57 (9.9%);Upper Guinea: 31 (5.4%);Guinea Forest Region: 16 (2.8%). In this study population, 48 patients were admitted in emergency (8.3%);105 were scheduled (18.3%) and 422 were referred to the nephrology department (73.4%). Reasons for the emergency admission were acute pulmonary edema in 21 patients (43.7%), decompensated anemia in 13 patients (27.1%), loss of consciousness in 9 patients (18.7%) and malignant hypertension in 5 patients (10.4%). The reference patterns was uremic syndrome in 312 patients (54.3%), followed by high blood pressure in 247 patients (42.9%), an edematous syndrome in 234 patients (40.7%), oligoanuria in 222 patients (38.6%), morphological abnormalities on the renal ultrasound in 4 patients (0.7%). The functional symptoms were vomiting in 379 patients (65.9%), followed by dyspnea in 290 patients (50.4%), headaches in 287 patients (49.9%). Among them, 121 patients cou

Background: Angina is a common paediatric condition. It has certain peculiarities in children, particularly with regard to the frequency of bacterial germs and the use of diagnostic tests. The aim of this study was to determine the place of the rapid diagnostic test in the management of group A beta-hemolytic streptococcal angina in children in the paediatric ward at Donka National Hospital. Methods: This was a prospective descriptive study lasting 6 months from 1st February to 31st July 2019 concerning children aged between 3 and 15 years old who were diagnosed with angina. Epidemiological, clinical, para-clinical and therapeutic variables were studied. Results: Out of 1494 registered children, we collected 116 cases of angina (7.76%). Out of 52 patients who benefited from the rapid diagnostic test, we recorded 13 cases of angina due to group A beta-hemolytic strptococcus. Introduction: Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) diseases in patients living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/ AIDS) are relatively common and of concern to ENT specialists and other health professionals. Aim: It was to describe the epidemiological and diagnostic aspects of ENT and cervicofacial diseases in patients living with HIV/ AIDS. Material and Methods: This was a descriptive study with prospective data collection, conducted over a period of six months (September 16, 2019 to March 16, 2020), carried out at the ENT and Infectious Diseases Departments of the Donka National Hospital. Results: Of 522 HIV-positive patients, 208 (39.8%) presented with ENT diseases. Women represented 62.5% with a sex ratio of 0.6. The mean age was 42.21 years with extremes of 16 and 64 years. Housewives were the most represented (29.8%). Married people were the most affected (76.4%). Cervical involvement was present in 7.7% of patients. Otologic involvement accounted for 43.7%. Oral cavity and pharyngolaryngeal involvement accounted for 50.9%. Nasosinus involvement accounted for 55.7%. HIV type I was the most common (99.5%). Conclusion: Otorhinolaryngology diseases were frequent in HIV positive patients. They may constitute the first reason for consultation. However, these ENT diseases remain in appendix of the opportunistic diseases of HIV/AIDS taking the front stage.
