Context: Breast cancer is a high-mortality disease. Early detection has considerably reduced mortality in developed countries. Objectives: To assess the knowledge, attitudes and practices of Congolese women in Kinshasa on breast cancer, their levels and to identify factors associated with insufficient knowledge, negative attitudes and non-beneficial practices. Material and Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study with analytical aims, carried out from June 1 to September 30, 2023, in Kinshasa. It involved 1170 female respondents, aged 18 to 65, who agreed to take part in the survey. Data were collected using a pre-established questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using SPSS software version 20.0. The study variables were socio-demographics, morbid history, knowledge, attitudes and practices of respondents regarding breast cancer. Statistical measures and tests used were Mean ± standard deviation, median, proportions, logistic regression Backward stepwise and p Results: 60% had insufficient knowledge, 75% had negative attitudes and 80% had non-beneficial practices. The risk factors common to insufficient knowledge, negative attitudes and non-beneficial practices towards breast cancer were low level of education, membership of revivalist or Muslim churches, and primiparity. Conclusion: 60% of Congolese women in Kinshasa have insufficient knowledge about breast cancer, 75% have negative attitudes and 80% have non-beneficial practices, with a positive association between insufficient knowledge and negative attitudes on the one hand, and insufficient knowledge and non-beneficial practices on the other. In this context, increasing the population’s literacy and access to information are essential.

Disturbance cues in freshwater prey fishes： Does urea function as an ＇early warning cue＇ in juvenile convict cichlids and rainbow trout？

Freshwater vertebrate and invertebrate prey species commonly rely on chemosensory information, including non-injury released disturbance cues, to assess local predation threats. We conducted laboratory studies to （1） determine if urea can function as a disturbance cue in juvenile convict cichlids and rainbow trout and （2） determine if the background level of urea influences the behavioral response to a subsequent pulse of urea （＇background noise＇ hypothesis）. In the first series of trials, juve- nile cichlids and trout were exposed to urea at varying concentrations （0 to 0.5 mg L-1 for cichlids and 0 to 1.0 mg L1 for trout）. Our results suggest that both cichilds and trout exhibited functionally similar responses to urea and conspecific disturbance cues and that increasing the concentration of urea results in an increase intensity of antipredator behaviour. In the second series of trials, we pre-exposed cichlids or trout to intermediate or high concentrations of urea （or a distilled water control） and then tested for the response to a second pulse of urea at at intermediate or high concentrations （versus a distilled water control）. Our results demon- strate that pre-exposure to urea reduces or eliminates the response to a second pulse of urea, supporting the background noise hy- pothesis. Together, our results suggest that pulses of urea, released by disturbed or stressed individuals, may function as an early warning signal in freshwater prey species

本研究用离体大鼠胃灌流技术来观察铃蟾肽对胃-肠激素及胃酸分泌的影响。2×10^(?)mol/L铃蟾肽以0.3ml/min速度作动脉内输注,可刺激胃酸的分泌,自2.50±0.05×10^(-1)增至5.50±1.50×10^(-1)mEq/min,但与外源性五肽胃泌素无协同作用。铃蟾肽引起两次性的门脉中胃泌索及生长抑素的释放,但抑制胰升糖素释放。这三种激素的基础释放率分别为:胃泌素62±8pg,生长抑素5.9±1.1ng,胰升糖素0.40±0.03ng/min;2×10^(-8)mol/L铃蟾肽以0.3ml/min作动脉内输注,胃泌素及生长抑素的峰值分别为1,000±20pg及12.2±2.0ng/min,胰升糖素的最低值为0.17±0.05ng/min,三种激素的反应均与铃蟾肽的浓度成正比。在胃腔流出液中也可测到上述三种激素,但量要少得多。

Cardiac Sarcoidosis (CS) is a rare and deceptive disease affecting young adults with catastrophic results including life threatening arrhythmia, congestive heart failure and even sudden death as the initial presentation. CS has been linked to a significant high morbidity & mortality. We present two patients: The first patient with an initial cardiac event that led us to a diagnosis of Pulmonary and Cardiac Sarcoidosis. A second patient, who was diagnosed initially with pulmonary Sarcoidosis, presented with a severe heart conduction abnormality. Both patients were successfully treated with permanent pacemakers. The dual purpose of our study is first to emphasize the importance of follow up on patients with Non-Cardiac Sarcoidosis for cardiac involvement and secondly to increase awareness of CS as part of a differential diagnosis among young adults with unexplained arrhythmia.

Density downramp injection has been demonstrated to be an elegant and efficient approach for generating high-quality electron beams in laser wakefield *** studies have demonstrated the possibilities of generating electron beams with charges ranging from tens to hundreds of picocoulombs while maintaining good beam ***,the plasma and laser parameters in these studies have been limited to specific ranges or attention has been focused on separate physical processes such as beam loading,which affects the uniformity of the accelerating field and thus the energy spread of the trapped electrons,the repulsive force from the rear spike of the bubble,which reduces the transverse momentum P⊥of the trapped electrons and results in small beam emittance,and the laser evolution when traveling in the *** this work,we present a comprehensive numerical study of downramp injection in the laser wakefield,and we demonstrate that the current profile of the injected electron beam is directly correlated with the density transition parameters,which further affects the beam charge and energy *** fine-tuning the plasma density parameters,electron beams with high charge(up to several hundreds of picocoulombs)and low energy spread(around 1%FWHM)can be *** these results are supported by large-scale quasi-threedimensional particle-in-cell *** anticipate that the electron beams with tunable beam properties generated using this approach will be suitable for a wide range of applications.

Papillary thyroid carcinoma(PTC)has a high propensity for regional metastases,however,the impact of such metastases on the outcome of the patients is *** central compartment of the neck is considered the first and the most common echelon of metastases from thyroid *** examination along with ultrasonography are the gold standard pre-operative evaluation of patients with *** is highly sensitive in evaluating lateral neck nodes,however,its value in evaluating the central compartment is limited,resulting in a relatively high rate of occult metastases in this *** main potential complications of para-tracheal neck dissection(PTND)are recurrent laryngeal nerve paralysis and hypocalcemia and these may be higher in patients undergoing PTND compared to thyroidectomy *** histological data is available showing no evidence of lymph nodes in the central compartment above a level parallel to the inferior border of the cricoid *** findings support withholding dissection of the upper para-tracheal region routinely as a part of PTND in patients with well-differentiated thyroid *** doing that,the complications may be lower and identical to thyroidectomy alone,thus may abolish arguments against more common use of elective PTND in patients with thyroid carcinoma.
