Chinese alligator hatchlings in captivity are fragile and have a high mortality rate within first *** body mass gain of reptile animals is closely related to their feeding behavior and gut *** study analyzed the intrinsic factors influencing the allometric growth of Chinese alligator hatchlings based on their body mass gain,feeding behavior,and gut *** information would enhance the health management of Chinese alligator *** was a significant correlation between the total distance moved,the average number of conspecifics nearby,and body mass *** alligator hatchlings with a greater growth rate showed greater activity and more independent behavior during feeding than those with a lower growth ***,after feeding started,some functions of the gut microbiota showed significant relationships with growth rate and feeding *** alligator hatchlings with a greater growth rate showed greater levels of heme biosynthesis than those with a lower growth rate,and feeding activity was inhibited by long-chain fatty acid *** results elucidate the relationships between health,feeding behavior,and the gut microbiota of Chinese alligator *** the intrinsic factors of their health and feeding behavior can improve the health management of Chinese alligator hatchlings in captivity for conservation.

Epidemiology,determinants,and management of AIDS cholangiopathy:A review

Diseases of the liver and biliary tree have been described with significant frequency among patients with human immunodeficiency virus(HIV), and its advanced state, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome(AIDS). Through a variety of mechanisms, HIV/AIDS has been shown to affect the hepatic parenchyma and biliary tree, leading to liver inflammation and biliary strictures. One of the potential hepatobiliary complications of this viral infection is AIDS cholangiopathy, a syndrome of biliary obstruction and liver damage due to infection-related strictures of the biliary tract. AIDS cholangiopathy is highly associated with opportunistic infections and advanced immunosuppression in AIDS patients, and due to the increased availability of highly active antiretroviral therapy, is now primarily seen in instances of poor access to antiretroviral therapy and medication non-compliance. While current published literature describes well the clinical, biochemical, and endoscopic management of AIDS-related cholangiopathy, information on its epidemiology, natural history, and pathology are not as well defined. The objective of this review is to summarize the available literature on AIDS cholangiopathy, emphasizing its epidemiology, course of disease, and determinants, while also revealing an updated approach for its evaluation and management.

One more chance of fistula healing in inflammatory bowel disease:Stem cell therapy

Patients with fistulizing inflammatory bowel disease are traditionally difficult to treat. This patient population often experiences delayed or insufficient healing of fistulas using current standard regimens including anti-biotics, immunomodulators, anti-tumor necrosis factor--α drug, placement of setons, and surgical repair. Several studies over the last ten to fifteen years have been conducted using stem cell therapies with promising results in this patient population. These studies show stem cell therapy in fistulizing disease to be successful in healing between 60%--88% compared to currently 50% with infliximab. Moreover, remission was seen 24 wk to 52 wk in these studies. Further research with a multi--approach treatment using medications, stem cell therapy, and surgical interventions will likely be the future of this innovative treatment approach.

上扬子地区五峰组-龙马溪组黑色岩系是我国南方重要的海相烃源岩,也是目前我国页岩气勘探开发的重要层位之一,前人对其有机质富集因素的综合分析和富集因素之间的关系研究较少.以渝东南武隆地区焦页143-5井为例,对五峰组-龙马溪组下段黑色岩系进行了地层学及古海洋环境的研究,探讨了古气候、火山活动、古海洋生产力和氧化还原特征及其在有机质富集中的作用.研究表明,TOC与强烈火山活动、缺氧古海洋环境、高古生产力和温暖古气候具有良好的正相关关系.这是由于强烈火山作用和陆源化学风化,大大提高了海洋中的营养盐含量,促使生物繁盛、生产力增高,并形成了缺氧硫化、富硅的海洋环境,从而为有机质富集提供了优良的条件.

Interventions to improve sarcopenia in cirrhosis: A systematic review

BACKGROUND Sarcopenia, i.e., muscle loss is now a well-recognized complication of cirrhosis and in cases of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease can contribute to accelerate liver fibrosis leading to cirrhosis. Hence, it is imperative to study interventions which targets to improve sarcopenia in *** To examine the relationship between interventions such nutritional supplementation, exercise, combined life style intervention, testosterone replacement and trans jugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt(TIPS) to improve muscle mass in *** We search PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane between June-August 2018, without a limiting period and the types of articles(RCTs, clinical trial, comparative study)in adult patients with sarcopenia and cirrhosis. The primary outcome of interest was improvement in muscle mass, strength and physical function interventions mentioned above. In the screening process, 154 full text articles were included in the review and 129 studies were *** We identified 24 studies that met review inclusion criteria. The studies were diverse in terms of the design, setting, interventions, and outcome *** performed only qualitative synthesis of evidence due to heterogeneity amongst studies. The Permian radiolarian zones and their correlations with conodont zones or other chronostratigraphic schemes are still under debate. In this study, four genera, 21 species and two subspecies of radiolarians together with one genus and six species of conodonts were recovered from the Linghao Formation cropping out at the Longwangpo(LWP) section, northwestern Guangxi, South China. Six radiolarian interval zones and one abundance zone are recognized in the section, namely in ascending order, the Follicucullus scholasticus, Albaillella cavitata, A. protolevis, A. levis, A. excelsa, A. triangularis Interval zones and A. yaoi Abundance Zone. They are correlated with the Clarkina dukouensis, C. guangyuanensis and C. orientalis conodont zones recognized at the same section. Based on our data, the F. scholasticus Interval Zone and the lowermost part of A. cavitata Interval Zone are recognized to be upper Capitanian age, whereas the four Albaillella Interval zones are of Lopingian age(Wuchiapingian to the late Changhsingian). Two previously known Changhsingian radiolarian zones, namely the A. triangularis and A. yaoi Interval zones, should be extended down to the uppermost Wuchiapingian in this studied section.

Spindle cell carcinoma also known as sarcomatoid carcinoma is a rare highly aggressive tumor which is histologically different from squamous cell ca and mesenchymal cancers. Only hands full of cases have been reported in literature since 1957 and hence no proper treatment protocol has been devised yet. We present such a case of thirty-four-year-old female who presented with spindle cell carcinoma of the maxilla at our department and was treated with extensive surgery followed by chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Spindle cell carcinoma is generally associated with poor prognosis and hence literature supports use of post operative Chemo and Radiotherapy for better result and decrease chance of local recurrence.

Production of Mayonnaise from Date Pit Oil

Chemical compositionof the residual pits from processing of date (Phoenix dactylifera L.) variety khalas from AL-Hasa region–Saudi Arabia was investigated. The extracted oil from residual pits was analyzed for its physico-chemical properties, (refractive index, colour, acid value, peroxide value, iodine number, saponification number and unsaponifiable matter), total phenols, tocopherol content, fatty acid composition, hydrocarbons, and sterol compounds by gas liquid chromatography, and oxidative stability by Rancimat method at 100℃ ± 2℃. Mineral content of date pits was analyzed by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Date pit oil was used to replace conventional oil in producing mayonnaise, and sensory qualities were evaluated in comparison with commercial mayonnaise prepared from corn oil. The data demonstrated that mayonnaise containing date pit oil was superior in sensory characteristics as compared with control manufactured from corn oil. Results showed that the date pit oil could be used as nontraditional oil in some food processing such as mayonnaise products.
