Heparin-binding proteins from boar seminal plasma affecting the release of prostaglandins and interleukin-6 by porcine endometrial and cervical cells and bovine endometrial cells

The objectives of this study were to explore whether heparin-binding proteins, separated by fast protein liquid chromatography from boar seminal plasma influence the release of prostaglandins F2α, (PGF2α), E2 (PGE2) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) by porcine endometrial and cervical cells and even bovine endometrial cells. In Experiment I, we showed that release of PGF2α by endometrial epithelial, endometrial stromal and cervical stromal cells to the medium was inhibited (p α (TNFα) stimulated release of IL-6 by endometrial and cervical stromal cells after 24 h incubation, but in the presence of heparin-binding proteins, this stimulation was attenuated. Release of PGF2α by cryopreserved (Experiment II) and primary (Experiment III) cervical stromal cells was significantly inhibited after 3 h incubation with 66 - 95.4 μg of heparin- binding proteins. A significant inhibition of PGE2 release by cryopreserved and primary cervical stromal cells was already achieved after incubation with 16.5 - 23.9 μg of heparin-binding proteins. The release of IL-6 by cryopreserved cells was stimulated after 3 h incubation with heparin- binding proteins in a dose dependent manner in contrast to the release of IL-6 by freshly isolated cervical stromal cells. We also found (Experiment IV) that porcine heparin-binding seminal plasma proteins inhibited release of PGF2α and stimulated release of IL-6 by bovine endometrial epithelial cells. In conclusion, a group of heparin-binding proteins separated by fast protein liquid chromatography from boar seminal plasma inhibit PGF2α, PGE2 and stimulate IL-6 release by porcine endometrial and cervical cells and even by bovine endometrial cells. Thus, these proteins have a similar effect as the entire seminal plasma.

Psychiatric disorders arc highly heritable, and in many individuals likely arise from the combined effects of genes and the environment. A substantial body of evidence points toward D1SCI being one of the genes that influence risk of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression, and functional studies of DISC1 consequently have the potential to reveal much about the pathways that lead to major mental illness. Here, we review the evidence that DISC1 influences disease risk through effects upon multiple critical pathways in the developing and adult brain.

Developmental Toxicity in Mice Following Paternal Exposure to Di-N-Butyl-Phthalate (DBP)

Objective The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of paternal Di‐N‐butyl‐phthalate （DBP） exposure pre‐ and postnatally on F1 generation offspring,and prenatally on F2 generation *** Male mice were exposed to either 500 mg/kg or 2 000 mg/kg of DBP for 8 weeks,and mated with non‐exposed ***‐quarters of the females were sacrificed a day prior to parturition,and examined for the number of living and dead implantations,and incidence of gross *** from the remaining females were assessed for developmental markers,growth parameters,as well as sperm quantity and *** There were no changes in the fertility of parents and in intrauterine development of the *** of DBP‐exposed males demonstrated growth‐*** paternal exposure to 500 mg/kg bw of DBP,there were almost twice the number of males than females born in the F1 generation.F1 generation females had a 2.5‐day delay in vaginal *** exposure to 2 000 mg/kg bw of DBP increased the incidence of sperm head malformations in F1 generation males;however,there were no changes in the fertility and viability of foetuses in the F2 *** Paternal DBP exposure may disturb the sex ratio of the offspring,delay female sexual maturation,and deteriorate the sperm quality of F1 generation males.

The paper aims at introducing a new approach to individual differences. Personality is recognized here as the system built on tensions between three levels, namely traits, characteristic adaptations, and self-concept as well as tensions between the person and environment; another source of tensions is cognitive versus emotional processes. Personality development is possible during life span on the levels of characteristic adaptations and self-concepts, however, minor changes are possible also on the level of traits. Adaptation and transgression are two opposite kinds of processes, the former stands for integration and emotional security, and the latter for innovation and change.

＜正＞The essence of this study was to analyze current tendency of the production and use of plastics packaging. Technical progress of different kind of plastics packaging were analyzed. Although that progress is still associated with the objective consisting in ensuring the best possible quality of products in the extended period of durability, yet more and more emphasis is being put on the implementation of production of packaging guaranteeing a more comfortable use and a lesser burden on the natural environment compared to the packaging used to date, for instance biodegradable packaging material.

研究了Yb^(3+)掺杂铋酸盐玻璃的发光特性参数,讨论了Yb^(2+)、Bi^(3+)等缺陷淬灭中心与Yb^(3+)之间的能量转移。对于已优化的基质组成,在荧光寿命没有大幅下降的前提下,玻璃中Yb^(3+)近红外波段的发射截面明显增大,吸收截面减小,激光增益能力和饱和抽运强度均得到提高。采用有效的除羟基工艺,玻璃中不会产生比磷酸盐玻璃中更为严重的Yb^(3+)发光淬灭效应,但铋酸盐玻璃中还可能存在Yb^(2+)、Bi^(3+)等价态不稳定的缺陷淬灭中心。

Four-Week Fluoxetine(SSRI)Exposure Diminishes Aggressive Behaviour of Male Siamese Fighting Fish(Betta splendens)

Aggression, especially territorial is a serious problem in farmed and ornamental fish. Especially the tropical species like Siamese fighting fish Betta splendens or marine species like blu head Thalassoma bifasciatum. Also farmed species of Salmoniformes (Coho salmon Oncorhynchus kisutch, rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss) exhibit territorial aggression which is correlated with growth rate of the fish. In these species native territorial aggression occurs, and in ethology it is called stereotypical agonistic behaviour or conspecific aggression. In this type modulation of aggression serotonin (5-HT) plays a main role. A decrease of 5-HT in brain intensifies these type of aggression and in opposite an increase of 5-HT reduces it. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of different doses of fluoxetine on male aggressive behaviors of Betta splendens fish. It was concluded that fluoxetine added to aquarium water in the doses of 4, 40 and/or 100 μg·ga–1 BW during 14 - 28 days increased synaptic levels of 5-HT what in turn resulted in the reduction of the specific aggressive behaviors. Fluoxetine caused periodic, and sometimes even total weakening of male-male type fight, which is a standard trial applied in ethological research on Siamese fighting fish. In current study, the most effective was the dose of 40 μg·g–1 BW. The mechanism of this antiaggressivity depended on an increase of serotonergic system activity in animal brain (especially, in raphe nuclei), however synaptic levels of 5-HT in brain were not measured in this experiment. Thus, the hypothesis that exposure from day 1 - 21 would reduce aggression was rejected;as was the hypothesis that exposure on fluoxetine from day 10 (16) - 14 - 28 would rapidly reduce aggression in teleost fishes. The results obtained suggests that a complex role of serotonin in the expression of aggression in teleost fish because acute treatment with 5-HT1A receptor agonist WAY-100635 did not increase aggression in fish [1]

Pitfalls and Uncertainties of Using Potentiometric Titration for Estimation of Plant Roots Surface Charge and Acid-Base Properties

Amount and properties of roots surface charge are important for nutrient uptake and balance in plants. Roots surface charge markedly varies at different rizosphere conditions (particularly pH and ionic strength), which can markedly alter during vegetation season. Among recently available measuring methods, surface charge-pH dependence of roots (as well as other biological objects) is most easily evaluated by potentiometric titration. Use of this method is also easy at different ionic strengths. Potentiometric titration also allows for estimation of the distribution of charge generating surface groups. However, many applications of this method seem to be based either on incorrect methodical or theoretical approaches. In this paper we discuss the methodical and theoretical backgrounds of the titration method. Basing on experimental titration curves of roots of barley grown in nutrient solution, we show inconsistency of surface charge results obtained at different measuring conditions. Limitations of theoretical interpretations of the results are outlined also.

D<sub>1</sub>and TrkB Receptors Take Charge of the Molecular Antidepressant Action in Cultured Astroglial Cells

In psychopharmacology of depression, we observe two ways of research. One group is focused on catecholamines action. Second one fixes attention on neuronal morphogenesis and synaptic plasticity. The intimate connection of astrocytes, neurons and synaptic endings determines glial participation in neural homeostasis. Consequently this situation enlarges the role of astrocytes in the CNS synaptic plasticity. Brain Derived Neurotrophic factor and its receptor TrkB suppose to coordinate both of the above mentioning signaling pathways in depression disturbances. In our experiment, we have exploited striatal tissue because in our opinion this structure is misjudged in pathophysiology of depression alas;Several hypothesis proposed striatum as important in future intention activity structure. RT-PCR analysis was used to determine D1, BDNF and TrkB mRNA expression in cultured striatal astroglial cells. Administration of three representative antidepressants (ADs) like amitriptyline, moclobemide and sertraline to astroglial culture medium increase the D1, BDNF/TrkB mRNA expression. Our previous study showed that the stimulation of cAMP to CREB pathway after D1 receptors excitation constituted a common response to ADs. The present results signify that D1, BDNF/TrkB link which is next neural track (after cAMP/PKA) involved in the CNS adaptation to external conditions altered by chronic ADs treatment. Moreover, the striatum tissue appears to be important formation which takes an active part in antidepressant action thus essential in depression disorder etiology.

Liposarcoma of the breast is a very rare malignant tumor. It can clinically manifest as a palpable breast mass and mimic primary breast cancer. We report an unusual case of a 51-year-old female who presented with an asymptomatic right breast mass, which was histologically diagnosed as well differentiated liposarcoma arisen within malignant phyllodes tumor. The patient underwent breast conserving surgery, received no adjuvant treatment and is disease-free after 2 years. Radiological and histopathological features are presented and described in detail. Data from the literature are presented and therapy recommendations discussed.
