Low melting point MCP-69, MCP-96, MCP-137, and MCP-200 alloys for radiation protection in radiological and therapeutic processes

Objective To evaluate the low melting-point MCP-69,MCP-96,MCP-137,and MCP-200 alloys,and characterize them for their potential to protect from the harms associated with radiation and eliminate radiation hazards during radiological procedures and treatment of *** The Klein-Nishina formula was used to calculate the electronic and atomic cross-sections of these alloys using photon beams with energies 4,6,9,12,and 18*** transfer coefficients,Compton mass attenuation coefficient,mass-energy transfer coefficient,and recoil energy of electrons in the specific photon energies of 4–18MeV were *** alloys'effective charge number and the photon energy were key factors in determining the properties found by utilizing the Klein-Nishina formula and Compton *** The cross sections and energy transfer coefficients increased with the increasing effective charge number Z of the alloys and decreased as the photon energy *** Compton recoil of the ejected electrons was observed to have a direct relationship with photon energy,but mass-energy transfer decreased with increasing photon *** alloys can replace the toxic lead for environmentally cleaned radiation *** These calculations and characteristics of the MCP alloys can help further determine their viability as materials for radiation shielding,their use in safe cancer diagnosis,treatment,and environmental hazards protection.

Role of ethylene and proteolytic N-degron pathway in the regulation of Arabidopsis seed dormancy

Primary dormant seeds of Arabidopsis thaliana did not germinate in darkness at temperature higher than 10–15℃.Ethylene improved the germination of dormant wild-type(Col-0)seeds at 25℃ in darkness but seeds of the mutant affected in the proteolytic N-degronpathway,proteolysis6(prt6),were insensitive to ethylene suggesting that PRT6 was involved in dormancy release by *** substrates of the N-degron pathway,the Ethylene Response Factors from group VII(HRE1,HRE2,RAP2.2,RAP2.3,and RAP2.12),were identified to be involved in this insensitivity with an increased germination in prt6 rap2.2 rap2.3 rap2.12 rather than in prt6 hre1 hre2,which also indicated that the three RAPs acted downstream of PRT6,while the two HREs acted upstream of *** reduced the expression of the three RAPs in Col-0 seeds but they were maintained or induced by ethylene in prt6 *** promoting effect of ethylene was associated with a down-regulation of dormancy-related genes in gibberellins(GAs)and abscisic acid(ABA)signaling,such as RGA,RGL2,and ABI5,and with a strong decrease in ABA/GA4 ratio in the presence of *** contrast,we show that the insensitivity of prt6 seeds to ethylene was mainly related to GA signaling disturbance.

Quality of life after laparoscopic and open colorectal surgery: A systematic review

This study was a systematic review of the available evidence on quality of life in patients after laparoscopic or open colorectal surgery. A systematic review was performed of all randomized clinical trials (RCTs) that compared laparoscopic with open colorectal surgery. Study selection, quality assessment and data extraction were carried out independently by two reviewers. Primary endpoint was quality of life after laparoscopic and open colorectal surgery, as assessed by validated questionnaires. The search resulted in nine RCTs that included 2263 patients. Shortand long-term results of these RCTs were described in 13 articles. Postoperative follow-up ranged from 2 d to 6.7 years. Due to clinical heterogeneity, no meta-analysis could be conducted. Four RCTs did not show any difference in quality of life between laparoscopic or open colorectal surgery. The remaining five studies reported a better quality of life in favor of the laparoscopic group on a few quality of life scales at time points ranging from 1 wk to 2 years after surgery. In conclusion, based on presently available high-level evidence, this systematic review showed no clinically relevant differences in postoperative quality of life between laparoscopic and open colorectal surgery.

Modified graphene‐based materials as effective catalysts for transesterification of rapeseed oil to biodiesel fuel

Production of biodiesel by the transesterification process using different modified graphene‐based materials as catalysts was *** acid graphene‐based samples were prepared by grafting sulfonic or phosphate groups on the surface of thermally reduced graphene *** obtained materials were thoroughly characterized using scanning electron microscopy,X‐ray diffraction,thermogravimetric analysis,X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy,N2 adsorption‐desorption measurements,potentiometric titration,elemental analysis,and Fourier transform infrared *** prepared catalysts were tested in the transesterification of rapeseed oil with methanol at 130°C under pressure,and their activities were compared to the performance of a commercially available heterogeneous acidic catalyst,Amberlyst‐*** modified samples were active in the transesterification process;however,significant differences were observed in the yield of biodiesel,depending on the method of catalyst preparation and strength of the acidic *** highest yield of fatty acid methyl esters of 70%was obtained for thermally reduced graphene oxide functionalized with 4‐benzenediazonium sulfonate after 6 h of processing,and this result was much higher than that obtained for the commercial catalyst Amberlyst‐*** results of the reusability test were also promising.

Accurate sales forecasting is essential in the fast-paced world of business for effective strategic planning and resource allocation. However, traditional forecasting methods often lack precision and flexibility. This study aims to address this issue by incorporating machine learning (ML) techniques to improve forecasting accuracy and responsiveness to market changes. The methodology involves gathering extensive sales data and carefully preprocessing it to ensure quality. Various ML algorithms, such as time series analysis, regression models, and neural networks, are utilized to account for the complex and non-linear nature of sales patterns. These models are trained and validated using historical sales data, taking into consideration external factors like economic indicators and consumer trends. The results show a significant enhancement in forecast accuracy compared to traditional methods. The ML models effectively capture underlying trends and seasonal variations, providing reliable predictions that closely match actual sales results. Additionally, the models demonstrate strong adaptability, quickly adjusting to unexpected market shifts.

Bacterial endocarditis following atrial septal defect closure using Amplatzer device in a child is extremely rare. We report a 10-year-old girl who developed late bacterial endocarditis, 6 years after placement of an Amplatzer atrial septal occluder device. Successful explantation of the device and repair of the resultant septal defect was carried out using a homograft patch. The rare occurrence of this entity prompted us to highlight the importance of a closed long-term follow up, review the management and explore preventive strategies for similar patients who have multiple co-morbidities and a cardiac device. A high index of suspicion is warranted particularly in pediatric patients.
