Background: In children, acute bacterial rhinosinusitis (ABRS) is often complicated by ophthalmological and/or neurological involvement. These complications should be known and recognized, as they require urgent treatment with intravenous antibiotics and close in-hospital monitoring. In this study, we aimed to identify the main risk factors associated with the development of complications in children aged 2 - 17 years with ABRS. Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of patients with ABRS complications in a primary hospital. Participants were divided into two groups: the control group comprising patients without complications (Group 1, n = 82) and the study group comprising patients with complications requiring hospitalization (Group 2, n = 41). We assessed the sociodemographic, clinical, and imaging data of both groups. Using multivariate logistic regression, we assessed risk factors of ABRS complications. Results: No socio-demographic characteristics were associated with ABRS complications (p ≥ 0.05). Factors associated with complications were delay in consultation (t = 5.282;p Conclusions: Intracranial and extracranial complications of ABRS in children have become rare in our setting. These complications can be serious and potentially fatal. Risk factors of these complications are delays in consultation, the presence of ophthalmological signs, and more than one affected sinus. Controlling modifiable factors would improve the treatment success of ABRS complications in children.

Sensory Characterizations and Optimization of Cashew Apple Jam Formulations Using Baobab Powder as a Source of Pectin

Cashew processing in Côte d’Ivoire focuses only on the cashew nut, to the detriment of the apple. Only a very small proportion of the apple is processed into juice. The aim of this work is to enhance the value of cashew apples by transforming them into jam. Specifically, the aim was first to characterize the sensory properties of cashew apple jam formulations using baobab powder as a source of pectin and then to optimise the formulations. A Box-Behken design with pH, Sugar, and Baobab as factors was used to model and characterize the jam sensory descriptors, and a multivariate analysis with SensomineR was used to characterize the jam formulations. The desirability function was used to optimise the formulations. The results show globally significant regressions at the 0.05 threshold for the sensory descriptors Gelling, Brilliance, Smell, Sweetness, and (-)Astringency, with the exception of (-)Salinity. The R2 coefficients are greater than 80%. The factors studied could have effects on the sensory descriptors of cashew jam formulations. The Baobab had the main effect on the gelling, smell, and astringency of the jams. Brilliance depended on the added sugar. A product effect (p < 0.001) was observed for the descriptors Smell, Gelling, Brilliance, and Sweetness, as these allowed the panelists to find differences between the formulations. Optimum jam formulation can be achieved with 51.56% sugar and 2.12% Baobab at a pH of 3.15. Cashew apple jam using Baobab offers opportunities to add value to apples that have long been abandoned in the field. It would be important to find conditions for prolonged storage of this jam.

Nowadays,several research projects show interest in employing volunteered geographic information(VGI)to improve their systems through using up-to-date and detailed *** European project CAP4Access is one of the successful examples of such international-wide research projects that aims to improve the accessibility of people with restricted mobility using crowdsourced *** this project,OpenStreetMap(OSM)is used to extend OpenRouteService,a well-known routing ***,a basic challenge that this project tackled was the incompleteness of OSM data with regards to certain information that is required for wheelchair accessibility(*** information,kerb data,etc.).In this article,we present the results of initial assessment of sidewalk data in OSM at the beginning of the project as well as our approach in awareness raising and using tools for tagging accessibility data into OSM database for enriching the sidewalk data *** experiments have been carried out in different European cities,and discussion on the results of the experiments as well as the lessons learned are *** lessons learned provide recommendations that help in organizing better mapping party events in the *** conclude by reporting on how and to what extent the OSM sidewalk data completeness in these study areas have benefited from the mapping parties by the end of the project.

Doran, et al.(2009, 2012) and van Tiel, et al.(2016) have presented experimental evidence that gradable adjectives (***) yield scalar inferences (*** not cold) significantly less often than do numerals, quantifiers and modals;their data also reveal considerable variability within the class of adjectives in the frequency with which inferences are likely to be *** Tiel, et *** two main explanations for this variation:differences among pairs of adjectives in what they call scale distinctness (how easy or difficult it is to differentiate the adjectives), and differences in scale availability (how salient the stronger scalar alternative is).They argue that only scale distinctness plays a role, and a rather small one at that;they leave most of the variation *** this comment, I argue that their measures of scale availability were too crude to detect a role for contextual variation in the scalar alternatives that subjects consider, but that this latter variation is, in fact, a very plausible part of the explanation for the results.I discuss some specific ways adjectives might yield different scalar alternatives in different contexts, under sufficiently sophisticated assumptions about their lexical semantics and about the rhetorical structure of discourse.
