BACKGROUND: Few comprehensive reviews on the pa- thogenesis of hepatitis C virus (HCV)-related liver diseases have been presented to the present. This article was to re- view the pathogenesis and treatment of HCV-related liver diseases. DATA SOURCES: Data presented here are mostly taken from Japanese studies. RESULTS: HCV infection is characterized by persistent in- flammation of the liver and frequent development of hepa- tocellular carcinoma (HCC) in most cases. These charac- teristic evidences could be explained by immunological al- terations and oxidative stress in the hepatocyte caused by HCV infection. Interferon (IFN) treatment is carried out, at present, not only for the elimination of infected HCV for the treatment of chronic liver diseases, but also for both the prevention of HCC and the treatment of advanced HCC with chemotherapy. The treatment for oxidative stress is al- so important for non-responders to IFN. CONCLUSION: It is important to understand the pathoge- nesis of HCV-related liver diseases for a successful treat- ment.

China has large regional disparities in carbon dioxide CO_(2) emissions with economic development among its 31 provincial mainland *** paper investigates these disparities in CO_(2) emission patterns and identifies the factors underlying the *** show that the 30 study China's mainland provinces(Tibet not included)can be divided into seven groups with three typical CO_(2) emission *** decomposition results indicate that changes in economic development,the industrial sector,and technology contribute far more to increased CO_(2) emissions than do population,energy structure,and other *** inspection reveals that different industry structures and technology contribute greatly to the differences observed in CO_(2) emissions between provinces with similar economic *** study highlights the importance of region-specific industrial structure adjustment policies,especially for regions transitioning to heavy industry and for those still in the primary stages of *** potential application of a domestic carbon emissions trading system,to encourage regional investment in updated technology,is also discussed.

District heating systems using cogeneration technology and renewable resources are considered as an effective approach to resources conservation and reduction of greenhouse gas （GHG） emissions. However, wide- spread aging and depopulation problems, as well as the popularization of energy-saving technologies in buildings, are estimated to greatly decrease energy consumption, leading to inefficiency in district heating and barriers to technology proliferation. From a long-term perspective, land use changes, especially the progression of compact city plans, have the potential to offset the decrement in energy consumption that maintains the efficiency of district heating systems. An integrated model is developed in this paper based on building cohort analysis to evaluate the economic feasibility and environmental impact of introdu- cing district heating systems to a long-term compact city plan. As applied to a case in the Soma Region of Fukushima, Japan, potential migration from the suburbs to the central station districts is simulated, where district heating based on gas-fired cogeneration is expected to be introduced. The results indicate that guided migration to produce concentrated centers of population can substan- tially increase the heat demand density, which supports a wider application of district heating systems and better low-carbon performance. These results are further dis- cussed in relation to technology innovation and related policies. It is concluded that policies related to urban land use planning and energy management should be integrated and quantitatively evaluated over the long-term with the aim of supporting urban low-carbon sustainable develop- ment.

Glioblastoma is the most aggressive and invasive brain tumor and has a poor prognosis;elucidating the underlying molecular mechanisms is essential to select molecular targeted ***,we investigated the effect of microRNAs on the marked invasiveness of glioblastoma.U373 glioblastoma cells were infected with 140 different microRNAs from an OncomiR library,and the effects of the invasion-related microRNAs and targeted molecules were investigated after repeated Matrigel invasion *** of the OncomiR library identified miR-23a as a key regulator of glioblastoma *** six glioblastoma cell lines,a positive correlation was detected between the expression levels of miR-23a and invasiveness.A luciferase reporter assay demonstrated that homeobox D10(HOXD10)was a miR-23a-target molecule,which was verified by high scores from both the PicTar and miRanda *** expression of miR-23a induced expression of invasion-related molecules,including uPAR,RhoA,and RhoC,and altered expression of glial-mesenchymal transition markers such as Snail,Slug,MMP2,MMP9,MMP14,and E-cadherin;however,these changes in expression levels were reversed by HOXD10 ***,miR-23a significantly promoted invasion of glioblastoma cells with polarized formation of focal adhesions,while exogenous HOXD10 overexpression reversed these ***,we identify miR-23a-regulated HOXD10 as a pivotal regulator of invasion in glioblastoma,providing a novel mechanism for the aggressive invasiveness of this tumor and providing insight into potential therapeutic targets.

Hydrocephalus is often treated with a cerebrospinal fluid shunt(CFS) for excessive amounts of cerebrospinal fluid in the ***,it is very difficult to distinguish whether the ventricular enlargement is due to hydrocephalus or other causes,such as brain atrophy after brain damage and *** non-trivial evaluation of the consciousness level,along with a continuous drainage test of the lumbar cistern is thus clinically important before the decision for CFS is *** studied 32 secondary mild hydrocephalus patients with different consciousness levels,who received T1 and diffusion tensor imaging magnetic resonance scans before and after lumbar cerebrospinal fluid *** applied a novel machine-learning method to find the most discriminative features from the multi-modal ***,we built a regression model to regress the JFK Coma Recovery Scale-Revised(CRS-R) scores to quantify the level of *** experimental results showed that our method not only approximated the CRS-R scores but also tracked the temporal changes in individual *** regression model has high potential for the evaluation of consciousness in clinical practice.

Endoscopy-based Kyoto classification score of gastritis related to pathological topography of neutrophil activity

Rising incomes coupled with an increasing demand for personal mobility and lack of efficient public transport systems are leading to increased dependence on motorization in developing cities and generating local and global environmental problems. Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) is viewed as an effective way to deal with increasing motorization and resulting CO 2 emissions. This paper concentrates on evaluating the impacts of MRTS system on energy demand and associated CO 2 emissions from passenger transport sector in Delhi using a systems dynamic approach. Three different scenario constructs are used to estimate the current trends and future budgets of energy demand and CO 2 emissions. These are "No MRTS scenario", "BAU" and "Policy control scenario". Results indicate that passenger mobility in Delhi is expected to increase at a rate of 8.7% per annum amounting to 534 billion passenger kilometer (p-km). In the BAU scenario the p-km shares of MRTS is 10.26%, which increases to 11.44% under the "Policy control scenario". This corresponds to a reduction of CO 2 emissions from 13.6 million tonnes "No MRTS scenario" by 2020, to 11.11 Million tonnes under the "Policy control" scenario.
