This article investigates identical parallel machines scheduling with family setup times. The objective function being the weighted sum of completion times, the problem is known to be strongly NP-hard. We propose a constructive heuristic algorithm and three complementary lower bounds. Two of these bounds proceed by elimination of setup times or by distributing each of them to jobs of the corresponding family, while the third one is based on a lagrangian relaxation. The bounds and the heuristic are incorporated into a branch-and-bound algorithm. Experimental results obtained outperform those of the methods presented in previous works, in term of size of solved problems.

High-resolution modeling approach is increasingly being considered as a necessary step for improving the monitoring and predictions of regional air quality. This is especially true for highly urbanized region with complex terrain and land-use. This study uses Community Multiscale Air Quality （CMAQ） model coupled with MM5 mesoscale model for a comprehensive analysis to assess the suitability of such high-resolution modeling system in predicting ozone air quality in the complex terrains of Osaka, Japan. The 1-km and 3-kin grid domains were nested inside a 9-km domain and the domain with 1-km grid covered the Osaka region. High-resolution Grid Point Value-Mesoscale Model （GPV-MSM） data were used after suitable validation. The simulated ozone concentrations were validated and evaluated using statistical metrics using performance criteria set for ozone. Daily maxima of ozone were found better simulated by the 1-krn grid domain than the coarser 9-km and 3-km domains, with the maximum improvement in the mean absolute gross error about 3 ppbv. In addition, 1-km grid results fared better than other grids at most of the observation stations that showed noticeable differences in gross error as well as correlation. These results amply justify the use of the integrated high-resolution MM5-CMAQ modeling system in the highly urbanized region, such as the Osaka region, which has complex terrain and land-use.

In addition to surgical procedures, radiofrequency ablation is commonly used for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinomas(HCCs) of limited size and number. Transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE), using iodized poppy seed oil, Lipiodol and anticancer drugs, has been actively performed for the treatment of unresectable HCC, particularly in Asian countries. Recently, Sorafenib become available for advanced HCCs when the liver is still sufficiently functional. Sorafenib is an oral multikinase inhibitor with antiproliferative and antiangiogenic effects. However, the effect of sorafenib seems to be inadequate to control the progression of HCC. Radiation therapy(RT)for HCC has a potential role across all stages of HCC. However, RT is generally not considered an option in HCC consensus documents or national guidelines, primarily because of insufficient supporting evidence. However, the method of RT has much improved because of advances in technology. Moreover, combined treatment of RT plus other treatments(TACE, sorafenib and chemotherapy etc.) has become one of the alternative therapies for HCC. Therefore, we should understand the various kinds of RT available for HCC. In this review, we focus on various kinds of external beam radiation therapy.

Relationship between therapeutic efficacy of arterial infusion chemotherapy and expression of P-glycoprotein and p53 protein in advanced hepatocellular carcinoma

AIM： To investigate the relationship between the chemotherapeutic drug efficacy and the expression of P-glycoprotein （PGP） and p53 protein in advanced hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC）. METHODS： The study was conducted on 41 patients with advanced HCC who were treated by repeated arterial infusion chemotherapy. Biopsy specimens from the tumor were collected before the start of treatment in all the patients, and the specimens were stored frozen until immunohistochemical staining, which was performed after the start of treatment, to detect PGP and p53 protein expressions. Twenty of the fortyone patients were treated with an anthracycline drug （epirubicin hydrochloride; anthracycline group）, and the remaining 21 were treated with a non-anthracycline drug （mitoxantrone hydrochloride in 11 patients and carboplatin in 10 patients; non-anthracycline group）. The relationship between the chemotherapeutic efficacy and the results of immunostaining were compared between the two groups. RESULTS： Before the start of the treatment, PGPpositive rate was 90.2% （strongly-positive, 36.6%） and p53 protein-positive rate was 34.1% （strongly-positive, 19.5%）. In the anthracycline group, the response rate was 40.0%. The number of patients showing poor response to the treatment was significantly larger in the patients with strongly positive PGP expression （P= 0.005）, and their prognoses were poor （P= 0.001）. in the nonanthracycline group, the response rate was 42.9%,and there was no significant relationship between the chemotherapeutic drug efficacy and the PGP or p53 protein expression. When only the data from the 11 patients treated with anthraquinone drug, mitoxantrone, were analyzed, however, the number of patients who showed poor response to treatment was significantly higher among the p53-positive patients （P= 0.012）, irrespective of the survival outcome. During vascular development, procambial and cambial cells give rise to xylem and phloem cells. Because the vascular tissue is deeply embedded, it has been difficult to analyze the processes of vascular development in detail. Here, we establish a novel in vitro experimental system in which vascular development is induced in Arabidopsis thaliana leaf-disk cultures using bikinin, an inhibitor of glycogen synthase kinase 3 proteins. Transcriptome analysis reveals that mesophyll cells in leaf disks synchronously turn into procambial cells and then differentiate into tracheary elements. Leaf-disk cultures from plants expressing the procambial cell markers TDRpro：GUS and TDRpro：YFP can be used for spatiotemporal visualization of procambial cell formation. Further analysis with the tdr mutant and TDIF （tracheary element differentiation inhibitory factor） indicates that the key signaling TDIF-TDR-GSK3s regulates xylem differentiation in leaf-disk cultures. This new culture system can be combined with analysis using the rich material resources for Arabidopsis including cell-marker lines and mutants, thus offering a powerful tool for analyzing xylem cell differentiation.

Traditional serrated adenoma(TSA)is a type of serrated polyp of the colorectum and is thought to be a precancerous *** are three types of serrated polyps,namely,hyperplastic polyps,sessile serrated adenomas/polyps,and *** is the least common of the three types and accounts for about 5% of serrated *** we report a pediatric case of TSA that was successfully resected by endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD).This rare case report describes a pediatric patient with no family history of colonic polyp who was admitted to our hospital with *** colonoscopy,we found a polypoid lesion measuring 10 mm in diameter in the lower *** selected ESD as a surgical option for en bloc resection,and histopathological examination revealed *** findings in this case suggest that TSA with precancerous potential can occur in children,and that ESD is useful for treating this lesion.

This paper presents a modified multi-resolution telescopic search algorithm (MRTlcSA) for the block-matching motion estimation. A novel inverse telescopic search is substituted for the conventional telescopic search, that reduces the on-chip memory size and memory bandwidth for VLSI implementation. In addition, strategies of motion track and adaptive search window are applied to reduce the computational complexity of motion estimation. Simulation results show that, compared with the MRTleSA, the proposed algorithm reduces the computational load to only 30% while preserving almost the same image quality. Comparisons on hardware cost and power consumption of the VLSI implementations using the two algorithms are also presented in the paper.
