Interactive effects of drought stress and chitosan application on physiological characteristics and essential oil yield of Thymus daenensis Celak

Thymus daenensis, a perennial herb, is often grown in areas that experience drought conditions during its growing period. Application of chitosan may compensate for the negative impact of drought stress on the yield of oil and secondary metabolites in *** interactive effects of foliar application of chitosan and drought stress on dry matter,essential oil yield, and selected physiological characteristics including photosynthetic pigments, osmotic adjustment, and lipid peroxidation of Thymus were investigated in a two-year study from 2014 to 2015. Treatments consisted of 0, 200, and 400(iL L'1 chitosan applied to plants grown under field capacity, mild drought stress(50% field capacity), and severe drought stress(25% field capacity). Dry matter yield decreased substantially as drought stress intensified. However, essential oil content increased under stress conditions,with the highest essential oil yield obtained from plants under mild drought stress. Foliar application of chitosan compensated to some extent for dry matter and oil yield reduction of plants grown under drought stress. The highest essential oil yield(1.52 g plant-1) was obtained by application of 400 \iL L_1 chitosan under the mild stress condition in 2015 when plants were mature. The compensatory effect of chitosan in reducing the negative impact of stress conditions on dry matter and oil yield was due mainly to stimulation of osmotic adjustment through proline accumulation and reduction of lipid peroxidase level, which increased the integrity of cell membranes of thyme leaves.

We prepared a novel nickel（II）hydroxide-modified carbon paste electrode（Ni（OH）2-X/CPE）for the electrocatalytic oxidation of *** electrode was prepared by a simple method without the use of linking *** prepared Ni（OH）2-X/CPE material was characterized by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray *** electrochemical performance of the proposed electrode was investigated using cyclic voltammetry,electrochemical impedance spectroscopy,and *** results indicate that Ni（OH）2-X/CPE exhibits good electrocatalytic activity with regards to formaldehyde oxidation owing to its nanoporous structure and the large surface area of zeolite *** values of the electron transfer coefficient and the catalytic rate constant were 0.7 and 6.1 × 104 cm3/（mol·s）,***,the proposed electrode,which showed remarkable electroactivity with regards to formaldehyde oxidation with long-term stability and good reproducibility,could be useful in fuel cells.

Heat transfer study on solid and porous convective fins with temperature-dependent heat generation using efficient analytical method

A simple and highly accurate semi-analytical method, called the differential transformation method(DTM), was used for solving the nonlinear temperature distribution equation in solid and porous longitudinal fin with temperature dependent internal heat generation. The problem was solved for two main cases. In the first case, heat generation was assumed variable by fin temperature for a solid fin and in second heat generation varied with temperature for a porous fin. Results are presented for the temperature distribution for a range of values of parameters appearing in the mathematical formulation(e.g. N, εG, and G). Results reveal that DTM is very effective and convenient. Also, it is found that this method can achieve more suitable results in comparison to numerical methods.

Spectrophotometric determination of acidity constants of 4-(2′-thiazolylazo)-resorcinol (TAR) in water-organic mixtures

The acidity constants of TAR in different water-organic solvent binary mixtures at 25℃have been determined spectrophotometrically. DATa ANalysis（DATAN） program was used for calculations of the acidity constants and pure spectra of all formed species and their concentration distribution diagram in applied pH *** show that there are a fairly inverse relationship between acidity constants and the mole fraction of the organic solvent in the binary *** of solvent composition on the pK;s and pure spectrum of each component are also discussed.

A two-stage DEA model to evaluate sustainability and energy efficiency of tomato production

The aims of this study were to evaluate the sustainability and efficiency of tomato production and to investigate the determinants of inefficiency of tomato farming in Marand region of East Azerbaijan province,*** these purposes,a two-stage methodology was applied,in which for the first time a fractional regression model(FRM)was employed in the second stage of analysis,so that,in the first stage a nonparametric Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA)was used to analyze the efficiencies of tomato production and in the second stage,farm specific variables such as education level,farmers’age,total land size and use of manure were used in a fractional regression model to explain how these factors influenced efficiency of tomato *** results of the first stage showed that there are considerable differences between efficient and inefficient farmers in the studied area,so that the main differences were in the use of chemical fertilizers,biocides and water for ***,the results of second stage revealed that farmers’age,education level and total land size positively affected efficiency in tomato ***,better use of land,chemical fertilizers,water for irrigation and improving the farmers’educational levels through literacy campaign and land consolidation would probably increase the efficiency in the long term.

Application of Exp-function Method to Wave Solutions of the Sine-Gordon and Ostrovsky Equations

In this work, the Exp-function method is employed to find new wave solutions for the Sine-Gordon and Ostrovsky equation. The equations are simplified to the nonlinear partial differential equations and then different types of exact solutions are extracted by this method. It is shown that the Exp-function method is a powerful analytical method for solving other nonlinear equations occurring in nonlinear physical phenomena. Results are presented in contour plots that show the different values of effective parameters on the velocity profiles.

The lower Cretaceous rock units of the Koppeh-Dagh Basin of northeastern Iran were investigated here in terms of biostratigraphy,depositional setting and geochemical analyses to find out if they,alike other parts of the world,are rich in *** this purpose,a stratigraphic framework is established using calcareous nannofossil and palynological elements.A nannoplankton zonation based on which subzones of the zones CC7–CC8 of Sissingh(1977)and their equivalent NC6–NC8 of Roth(1978)was established indicating a Late Barremian–Albian *** assemblages led us to establish the local palynozone of Odontochitina operculata.A dominantly marginal basin to a transitional zone between shelf and basin under a dysoxic–anoxic condition with low to moderate sedimentation rates coincided with a gradual sea level rise was introduced as the environment of deposition for the strata via interpretation of the palynological parameters and quantitative *** obtained data from Rock-Eval pyrolysis in compilation with palynofacies analysis reveals that the studied succession contains mainly gas-prone type III *** Spore Coloration Index(SCI)alongside with the Rock-Eval pyrolysis results(low values of HI and TOC)proves that these rock units locally produced natural gas during the time under consideration.

Erosion and erosion-corrosion of Al-brass alloy: Effects of jet velocity, sand concentration and impingement angle on surface roughness

Effects of jet velocity,sand concentration and impingement angle on the surface roughness of Al-brass alloy were investigated after erosion and erosion?corrosion *** tests were performed using a jet impingement *** eroded surfaces were characterized using2-D and3-D surface profilometery and scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The results showed that there was an increase in the surface roughness of the erosion?corrosion samples as sand concentration was increased to1,5and10g/L at jet velocities of9,6and3m/s,***,the surface roughness decreased with a further increase in sand *** decrease in the surface roughness was attributed to the higher work hardening of the surface,rebounding or blanketing effect and very high frequency of the impacts at the higher sand *** surface roughness increased as the jet velocity *** results also showed that the change in the surface roughness with impingement angle was not significant at two jet velocities of3and6m/***,at a higher jet velocity of9m/s,formation of ripples on the erosion surfaces at oblique angles resulted in a higher surface roughness as compared with the normal impingement angle.

Phosalone-induced inflammation and oxidative stress in the colon: evaluation and treatment

AIM: To investigate the side effects of phosalone on intestinal cells and to evaluate benefits of ellagic acid(EA) as a ***: In order to conduct an in vivo study, a rat model was used. The rats were divided into ten groups based on the materials used in the experiment and their dosage. The first group was fed normally. The second group was administered EA through gavage. Next Four groups were given(1/3, 1/5, 1/10, 1/20) LD50 phosalone; an organophosphorus compound. The last four groups received(1/3, 1/5, 1/10, 1/20) LD50 phosalone and of EA. After one month, the rats were sacrificed and their colon cells were examined to evaluate the level of inflammation, proteins and oxidative stress ***: The results of this research show that phosalone elevates oxidative stress and changes the level of tumor necrosis factor-a(TNF-α), interlukin-6β(IL-6β) and nuclear factor(NF)-κB proteins. EA administration reduced phosalone toxicity and changed oxidative stress and inflammatory markers for all phosalone doses. Overall changes in reduction of TNF-α(230.47 ± 16.55 pg/mg protein vs 546.43 ± 45.24 pg/mg protein, P < 0.001), IL-6β(15.85 ± 1.03 pg/mg protein vs 21.55 ± 1.3 pg/mg protein, P < 0.05), and NF-κB(32.47 ± 4.85 pg/mg protein vs 51.41 ± 0.71 pg/mg protein, P < 0.05) manifest that the efficacy of EA is more viable for 1/3 LD50 dose of phosalone. Furthermore, EA is effective to counteract the negative outcomes of oxidative stress. When EA was used to treat 1/3 LD50 of phosalone's side effects, it improved the level of ACh E activity(48.5% ± 6% vs 25% ± 7%, P < 0.05), TTM(0.391 ± 0.008 mmol/L vs 0.249 ± 0.032 mmol/L, P < 0.05), FRAP(46.04 ± 5.005 μmol/L vs 18.22 ± 1.9 μmol/L, P < 0.01) and MPO(0.222 ± 0.019 U/mg protein vs 0.387 ± 0.04 U/mg protein, P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: This research highlights that EA is effective to alleviate the side effects of phosalone by reducing the level of oxidative stress and inflammatory proteins.
