Genetic polymorphisms of GSTM1,GSTP1 and GSTT1 genes and lung cancer susceptibility in the Bangladeshi population

Objective:To verify possible associations between polymorphisms of glutathione S-transferase Mu(GSTM1),glutathione S-transferase θ(GSTT1) and glutathione S-transferase Pi(GSTP1)genes and susceptibility to lung ***:A total of 106 lung cancer patients and 116 controls were enrolled in a case-control *** GSTM1 and GSTT1 were analyzed using PCR while GSTP1 was analyzed using PCR-restriction fragment length *** of lung cancer was estimated as odds ratio at 95%confidence interval using unconditional logistic regression models adjusting for age,sex,and tobacco ***:GSTM1 null and GSTT1 null genotypes did not show a significant risk for developing lung cancer.A significandy elevated lung cancer risk was associated with GSTP1 heterozygous,mutant and combined heterozygous+mutant variants of *** classified by tobacco consumption status,no association with risk of lung cancer was found in case of tobacco smokers and nonsmokers carrying null and present genotypes of GSTM1 and GSTTL There is a three-fold(approximately) increase in the risk of lung cancer in case of both heterozygous(AG) and heterozygous+mutant homozygous(AG+GG) genotypes whereas there is an eightfold increase in risk of lung cancer in cases of GG with respect to AA genotype in ***:Carrying the GSTM1 and GSTT1 null genotype is not a risk factor for lung cancer and GSTP1Ile105 Val is associated with elevated risk of lung cancer.

多重耐药细菌引发的肺部感染对人类健康构成了严重威胁.细菌生物膜加剧了肺部感染的持续和复发,限制了抗生素的可及性和有效性.基于凝集素竞争策略和颗粒表面修饰策略,本研究设计了一种硫酸多粘菌素B(PMBS)的吸入粉雾剂(DPI)用于治疗肺部感染.该制剂的载体是具有高凝集素亲和性(HLA)的小分子糖(如棉子糖),可靶向细菌凝集素,限制生物膜的扩展.该制剂的粒径约为3μm,其表面褶皱程度和药物与载体的比例有关.处方F_(5)(PMBS:棉子糖=10:90)表现出最高的微细粒子分数(FPF=64.86%),表明其具备显著增强的肺部药物递送效率.通过添加棉子糖,制剂在抑制生物膜形成和清除成熟生物膜方面的效果显著提高.在急性和慢性肺部感染的大鼠模型中,相较于喷雾干燥的PMBS,处方F_(5)表现出更强的抗菌效果,并引起更低炎症反应.综上,基于HLA载体的抗生素DPI具有治疗细菌生物膜相关肺部感染的良好前景.

Destructive and non-destructive evaluation of concrete for optimum sand to aggregate volume ratio

Aggregates are the biggest contributor to concrete volume and are a crucial parameter in dictating its mechanical *** such,a detailed experimental investigation was carried out to evaluate the effect of sand-toaggregate volume ratio(s/a)on the mechanical properties of concrete utilizing both destructive and non-destructive testing(employing UPV(ultrasonic pulse velocity)measurements).For investigation,standard cylindrical concrete samples were made with different s/a(0.36,0.40,0.44,0.48,0.52,and 0.56),cement content(340 and 450 kg/m^(3)),water-to-cement ratio(0.45 and 0.50),and maximum aggregate size(12 and 19 mm).The effect of these design parameters on the 7,14,and 28 d compressive strength,tensile strength,elastic modulus,and UPV of concrete were *** careful analysis demonstrates that aggregate proportions and size need to be optimized for formulating mix designs;optimum ratios of s/a were found to be 0.40 and 0.44 for the maximum aggregate size of 12 and 19 mm,respectively,irrespective of the W/C(water-to-cement)and cement content.

Assaying the allelopathic effects of Eucalyptus camaldulensis in a nursery bed incorporated with leaf litter

Allelopathic effects of Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh. were confirmed in Petri dish and pot experiments in our previous studies. However, the degree to which such effects under controlled experiments exist in more complex ecological settings remains to be tested. Thus, the present study was carried out by incorporating different proportions of ground litter of E. camaldulensis in soil. The growth of three agricultural crops: falen(Vigna unguiculata(L.) Walp.), chickpea(Cicer arietinum L.), and arhor(Cajanus cajan(L.) Millsp.), and two tree species, kala koroi(Albizia procera(Roxb.) Benth.) and ipil ipil(Leucaena leucocephala(Lam.) de Wit) were tested. There were inhibitory effects of leaf litter on germination, shoot and root growth, leaf number, and collar diameter as well as a reduction of nodulation by legume crops(25–80%reduction). The extent of the effects was dependent on the proportion of leaf litter, the species and the type of traits. In contrast to shoot growth, the effect on root growth was more severe. No effect on germination was found with the agriculture crops while the two tree species showed reduced germination. The effect was greater in the presence of higher proportions of leaf litter mixed in soil while in some cases lower proportions stimulated growth. Not all species were suppressed; A. procera, C. cajan, V. unguiculata showed compatible growth while C. arietinum and *** were found incompatible. This study provides evidence that E. camaldulensis has allelopathic potential under field conditions and a careful selection of associated crops in agroforestry systems is highly recommended.

Kinetics of Reduction of Thionine with Ribose and the Structural Properties of the Dye at Different pH Using DFT Method

The reaction between the thionine （Th） and the ribose was observed spectrophotometrically and changes in absorbance of Th were recorded at variable concentration of dye, reductant and pH. A pseudo first order rate of reaction was found to establish the reduction kinetics of the dye, studied at a pH range of 0.34 to 12.8. Absorption spectrum of Th at different pH, with ribose showed a pH （12.8） dependent introversion. The reduction most probably took place with enediol intermediate of the sugar at high pH. A full geometry optimization of predominant species of Th namely, mono-deprotonated, di-deprotonated Th, and LTh （leuco thionine） respectively, at low and high pH, was performed at B3LYP level of theory. The data obtained from the energy minimization were in excellent agreement with other experimental and theoretical observations. The calculated enthalpies of formation for both reduction reactions （mono-deprotonated Th＋H＋→leucothionine and di-deprotonated Th＋2H＋→leucothionine） provided evidences for maximum reduction of the dye at high pH.

A vast amount of construction and demolition(C&D)wastes are generated in Western Australia(WA)of which a major portion goes to *** diversion of C&D waste from landfills would be the single most significant opportunity for WA to improve its recovery performance.C&D waste materials have already been investigated for their appropriateness and use in pavement and *** work is the continuation of the authors’previous work involving further experimental tests to prove the structural suitability of a building’s structural member(i.e.,beam)made of recycled aggregates and industrial *** concrete mixes considered in this study are 100NA+100 OPC(Control),100RA+100OPC,50RA+50NA+90OPC+10SF and 50RA+50NA+60OPC+30FA+*** Reinforced Concrete(RC)beam made of 50RA+50NA+60OPC+30FA+10SF concrete mix was found to be the only eco-efficient *** option has reduced the level of environmental impacts in a cost-competitive *** use of this eco-efficient option could also provide new employment opportunities and significant improvements in terms of land and energy resources conservation and bio-diversity enhancement.

Comparative study between wear of uncoated and TiAIN-coated carbide tools in milling of Ti6AI4V

As is recognized widely, tool wear is a major problem in the machining of difficult-to-cut titanium alloys. Therefore, it is of significant interest and importance to understand and determine quantitatively and qualitatively tool wear evolution and the underlying wear mechanisms. The main aim of this paper is to investigate and analyse wear, wear mechanisms and surface and chip generation of uncoated and TiAlN-coated carbide tools in a dry milling of Ti6Al4V alloys. The quantitative flank wear and roughness were measured and recorded. Optical and scanning electron microscopy （SEM） observations of the tool cutting edge, machined surface and chips were conducted. The results show that the TiAlN-coated tool exhi- bits an approximately 44% longer tool life than the uncoated tool at a cutting distance of 16 m. A more regular progressive abrasion between the flank face of the tool and the workpiece is found to be the underlying wear mechanism. The TiAlN-coated tool generates a smooth machined surface with 31% lower roughness than the uncoated tool. As is expected, both tools generate serrated chips. However, the burnt chips with blue color are noticed for the uncoated tool as the cutting continues further. The results are shown to be consistent with observation of other researchers, and further imply that coated tools with appropriate combinations of cutting parameters would be able to increase the tool life in cutting of titanium alloys.

Whole Leea macrophylla ethanolic extract normalizes kidney deposits and recovers renal impairments in an ethylene glycol-induced urolithiasis model of rats

Objective:To investigate the antilithiatic effect of the whole Leea macrophylla(L macrophylla) Roxb(Leeaeeae) ethanol extract in ediylene glycol-induced urolithiasis model of ***: Forty two seven weeks old male wistar albino rats were randomly divided into two major groups namely:preventive(n=18) and therapeutic(n=24).Preventive group was further subdivided into 3 groups of 6 rats namely:preventive control(PC),preventive lithiatic control(PLC) and preventive lithiatic ***(PLLM).Similarly,therapeutic group was also subdivided into 4 groups of 6 rats namely:therapeutic control(TC),therapeutic lithiatic control(TLC).therapeutic lithitatic L macrophylla(TLLM) and therapeutic lithiatic cystone(TLCYS).The lithiasis was induced by 0.75%(v/v) ethylene glycol in the drinking water of all groups except the PC and TC *** urinary ionic parameters such as calcium,inorganic phosphate,oxalate,magnesium & creatinine and renal morphology were altered by ediylene glycol,which were partially recovered by 14 d preventive and almost fully recovered by 28 d therapeutic intervention trials with L macrophylla extract(500 mg/kg BW daily).Results:Significant difference on recovery was observed between preventive and dierapeutic interventional ***-urolithiatic effect of cystone was significantly(P<0.001) higher than extracts.L macrophylla extract was found nontoxic in the acute toxicity ***:The results of this study demonstrated very promising antiurolithiatic effect of *** extract with preventive and therapeutic treatments in this experimental condition.

Agro-Morphological, Physico-Chemical and Molecular Characterization of Rice Germplasm with Similar Names of Bangladesh

Thirty-one duplicate and similar named rice germplasms of Bangladesh were studied to assess the genetic variation for the agro-morphological and physico-chemical traits and simple sequence repeat banding patterns during 2009–2012 at Bangladesh Rice Research Institute. The range of variations within the cultivar groups showed higher degree. The principal component analysis showed that the first five components with vector values > 1 contributed 82.90% of the total variations. The cluster analysis grouped the genotypes into four clusters, where no duplicate germplasm was found. The highest number(11) of genotypes was constellated in cluster I and the lowest(3) in cluster II. The intra- and inter-cluster distances were the maximum in cluster I(0.93) and between clusters I and IV(24.61), respectively, and the minimum in cluster IV(0.62) and between clusters I and III(5.07), respectively. The cluster mean revealed that the crosses between the genotypes of cluster I with those of clusters II and IV would exhibit high heterosis for maximum good characters. A total of 350 alleles varied from 3(RM277) to 14(RM21) with an average of 7.8 per locus were detected at 45 microsatellite loci across the 31 rice accessions. The gene diversity ranged from 0.48 to 0.90 with an average of 0.77, and the polymorphism information content values from 0.44(RM133) to 0.89(RM206) with an average of 0.74. RM206, RM21, RM55, RM258 and RM433 were considered as the best markers on the basis of their higher polymorphism information content values. The dendrogram from unweighted pair-group method with arithmetic average clustering also classified the genotypes into four groups, where group IV comprised of 20 genotypes and group III of one genotype, but no duplicate was found. Finally, similar and duplicate named rice germplasms need to be conserved in gene bank as are distinct from each other.
