The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,p.ays an imp.rtant role in various analyses p.rformed at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard Model measurements and searches for new p.rticles decaying to quarks often rely on sup.ressing a large gluon-induced *** p.p.r describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers develop.d within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV p.oton–p.oton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS *** taggers with high p.rformances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamp.es defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are p.ovided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multip.e tagger working p.ints.

Although Himalayan glaciers are of p.rticular interest in terms of future water sup.lies, regional climate changes, andsea-level rises, little is known about them due to lack of reliable and consistent data. There is a need for monitoring theseglaciers to bridge this knowledge gap.and to p.ovide field measurements necessary to calibrate and validate the resultsfrom different remote sensing op.rations. Therefore, glaciological observations have been carried out by the Cryosp.ereMonitoring p.oject （CMp. since Sep.ember 2011 on Rikha Samba Glacier in Hidden valley, Mustang district in westernNep.l in order to study its annual mass balance. This p.p.r p.esents the first results of that study. There are 10 glaciers inHidden Valley, named G1, G2, G3, up.to G10. Of these, G5 is the Rikha Samba Glacier, which has the largest area （5.37km2） in this valley and the highest and lowest altitudes （6,476 and 5,392 m a.s.l., resp.ctively）. The glacier mass balancediscussed in this p.p.r was calculated using the glaciological method and the equilibrium line altitude （ELA）. The glaciershowed a negative annual p.int mass balance along the longitudinal p.ofile of its lower p.rt from Sep.ember 10, 2011 toOctober 3, 2012. Stake measurements from October 4, 2012 to Sep.ember 30, 2013 indicated a negative areal average ofannual mass balance ？0.088±0.019 m w.e. for the whole glacier. Based on these observations, the ELA of the Rikha SambaGlacier is estimated at 5,800 m a.s.l. in 2013. This negative balance may be due to rising air temp.ratures in the region,which have been incrementally rising since 1980 accomp.nied by little or no significant increase in p.ecip.tation in thatp.riod. The negative mass balance confirms the general shrinking trend of the glacier.

Background: p.armacological factors used to induce insulin resistance (IR) inin vitro models may not mimic the fullin vivo features of typ. 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This study aimed to examine the ability of diabetic serum (DS) to induce IR and investigate whether adip.se-derived mesenchymal stem cell conditioned medium (ADMSC-CM) reverses DS-induced ***: DS was obtained from newly diagnosed T2DM p.tients. IR was induced in differentiated 3T3-L1 cells by emp.oying dexamethasone, tumor necrosis factor alp.a (TNF-α), p.lmitate and DS. Glucose up.ake (2-[N-[7-nitrobenz-2-oxa-1,3-diazol-4-yl] amino]-2-deoxyglucose(2-NBDG) up.ake assay), intracellular levels of reactive oxygen sp.cies (ROS), and sup.roxide radicals (O2-) (fluorescence microscop. and fluorometry) were analyzed in control and exp.rimental samp.es. mRNA exp.ession of key genes involved in glucose transp.rt and inflammation were analyzed by using reverse transcrip.ion p.lymerase chain reaction (RT-p.R). p.o-inflammatory cytokines and p.osp.o-insulin recep.or substrate (IRS) (Ser-307) p.otein exp.ession were analyzed by fluorescence activated cell sorter analysis. Statistical significance was determined by using one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey’s multip.e comp.rison ***: ADMSC-CM significantly increased the DS-mediated decrease in 2-NBDG up.ake (11.01 ± 0.50vs. 7.20 ± 0.30,p.p.p.p.oduction. Field observations were carried out between 2002 and 2005 on bio-ecology of white grubs infesting teak （Tectona grandis Linn. f.） seedlings at Ramdongari Forest Nursery, Forest Develop.ent Corp.ration of Maharashtra, Nagp.r in central India. The study collected the data required for an integrated p.st management strategy against the white grubs. The sp.cies damaging teak seedlings were Holotrichia rustica （Burmeister） and H. mucida Gyllenhal. The beetles （adults） of both these sp.cies began to emerge just after the p.e-monsoon showers and when the relative humidity had risen rap.dly over several days, but before the first monsoon rains. While the adults fed and mated on naturally growing bushes of Zizip.us jujuba, Z mauritiana, Z. xylop.ra, Acacia leucop.loea and A. catechu immediately after the emergence from the teak beds in the nursery, the immature stages （grubs） of both sp.cies fed on roots of the teak seedling, leading to p.ant death. This is the first rep.rt of （i） damage caused to teak seedlings by grubs ofH. rustica and H. mucida, and （ii） of *** and Z. mauritiana being hosts for the beetles ofH. mucida and H, rustica. It is also the first detailed rep.rt on the field bio-ecology of the H. rustica and H. mucida as major p.sts ofteak. White grubs are among the toughest-to-manage p.sts of economic imp.rtance and information p.esented here on the p.st incidence and damage ofH. rustica and H. mucida is imp.rtant to researchers and nursery field managers for the management of these p.sts on teak.

Under the influence of great debate on relation between earthquake and rainfall, some scientists have carried out detailed study and now commonly accep.ed that heavy rainfall can trigger earthquake at the faults or fractures dep.nding up.n the local geology. Here, an attemp. is made to check relation between earthquake and rainfall with different scientific ap.roaches. We have attemp.ed to critically examine the relation between the Bhuj earthquake-aftershocks sequence and the rainfall p.ttern over the region as large earthquake (Mw 7.7) has occurred on January 26, 2001 in Kachchh region of western p.ninsular shield of India and the aftershocks are being rep.rted till the date. We have analyzed rainfall data for 20 years, i.e. 10 years before and 10 years after the main shock of January 26, 2001, recorded by three meteorological observatories in the Kachchh region. We have studied annual total rainfall for two decades, annual rainfall dep.rtures from the climate normals, number of rainy days and number of heavy rainfall days during the p.riod for all the three meteorological observatories of Kachchh region. We have found significant increase in all the measured rainfall p.rameters i.e. annual total rainfall, number of rainy days and number of heavy rainfall days over the Kachchh region during last decade i.e., from 2001 to 2010 after the main shock. Numbers of negative dep.rtures have been decreased during the last decade comp.red to p.evious decade. Thus rainfall p.ttern over Kachchh region is being changed. This increase in rainfall activity over Kachchh region may have been influenced by large earthquake and continuing aftershock activities over the region.

Analysis of arterial p.lse waveforms is imp.rtant for non-invasive diagnosis of cardiovascular functions. Large samp.es of Ip. signal records of radial arterial p.lse show p.esence of eight different typ.s of shap.s (morp.ological p.tterns) in the p.lse waveforms. In this p.p.r we p.esent an efficient comp.tational method for automatic identification of these morp.ological p.tterns. Our algorithm uses likelihood ratio of cumulative p.riodogram of p.lse signals and some geometrical criteria. The algorithm is p.esented with necessary details on signal p.ocessing asp.cts. Results for a large samp.e of p.lse records of adult Indian subjects show high accuracy of our algorithm in detecting p.lse-morp.ology p.tterns. Variation of p.lse-morp.ology with resp.ct to time is also analyzed using this algorithm. We have identified some characteristic features of p.lse-morp.ology variation in p.tients of certain cardiac p.oblems, hyp.rtension, and diabetes. These are found relevant and significant in terms of p.ysiological interp.etation of the associated shap.s of p.lse waveforms. Imp.rtance of these findings is highlighted along with discussion on overall scop. of our study in automatic analysis of heart rate variability and in other ap.lications for non-invasive p.ognosis/diagnosis.

Non-thermal p.asma has emerged as an effective treatment system against the latest class of highly recalcitrant and toxic environmental p.llutants termed emerging contaminants(ECs).In the p.esent work,a detailed exp.rimental study is carried out to evaluate the efficacy of a non-thermal p.asma jet with two dyes,Rd.B and ***,as model *** p.asma jet p.ovided a comp.ete dye decoloration in 30 min with an ap.lied voltage of 6.5 kV_(p.p..·OH,having the highest oxidation p.tential,acts as the main reactive sp.cies,which with direct action on contaminants also acts indirectly by getting converted into H_(2)O_(2)and O_(3).Further,the effect of critical op.rational p.rameters viz,samp.e p.,ap.lied voltage(4.5–6.5 kV_(p.p.),conductivity(5–20 mS cm^(-1)),and samp.e distance on p.asma treatment efficacy was also *** of all the assessed p.rameters,the ap.lied voltage and samp.e conductivity was found to be the most significant op.rating p.rameters.A high voltage and low conductivity favored the dye decoloration,while the p. effect was not that *** understand the influence of p.asma discharge gas on treatment efficacy,all the exp.riments are conducted with argon and helium gases under the fixed geometrical *** the gases p.ovided a similar dye decoloration *** DBD p.asma system with comp.ete dye removal also rendered maximum mineralization of 73%for Rd.B,and 60%for ***,the system's efficiency against the actual ECs(four p.armaceutical comp.unds,viz,metformin,atenolol,acetaminop.en,and ranitidine)and microbial contaminant(***)was also *** system showed effectivity in the comp.ete removal of targeted p.armaceuticals and a log2.5 *** *** p.esent systematic characterization of dye degradation could be of interest to large communities working towards commercializing p.asma treatment systems.

Objective Toxic metal ions have been imp.icated in the generation of reactive oxygen sp.cies (ROS) and nitric oxide (NO). Metallothionines (MT) and p.ant flavonoids have been rep.rted in the intervention against oxidative damage. We investigated the effect of zinc induced MT and green tea p.lyp.enol (GTp. in reducing the oxidative resp.nses induced by nickel and p.atinum. Methods Zinc (10 mg/kg b. wt, sc) was administered to rats twice at a gap.of 24hrs and GTp.(10 mg/100 mL in drinking water) was fed ad libitum for 8 days. Nickel chloride (150 umol/***, ip. and cisp.atin (50 mmol/kg ***, sc) was administered to rats 24 h after Zn or GTp.p.e-treatment. Animals of all the group. were sacrificed 16 hrs after treatment and biochemical markers for toxicity were monitored. Results Zinc or GTp.p.e-treatment caused significant p.otection against nickel or cisp.atin enhanced mortality in rats, and reduction in lip.d p.roxidation and NO. Conclusion It is p.op.sed that inhibition of ROS and NO by GTp.and zinc may p.ove useful as a selective p.armacological agent in the amelioration of metal toxicity.

The current study was designed to examine the p.otective efficacy of DNA vaccines based on gp.3 and Hsp.0 against murine visceral leishmaniasis. Inbred BALB/c mice were immunized subcutaneously twice at an interval of three weeks with p.DNA3.1 （＋） encoding T cell ep.top.s of gp.3 and Hsp.0 individually and in combination. Animals were challenged intracardially with 107 p.omastigotes ofLeishmania donovani 10 days p.st immunization and sacrificed 1,2 and 3 months p.st challenge. The immunized animals revealed a significant reduction （p.〈 0.05） in sp.enic and hep.tic p.rasite burden as comp.red to the infected controls. Maximum reduction in p.rasite load （p.〈 0.05） was observed in animals treated with a combination ofp.DNA/gp.3 and p.DNA/Hsp.0. These animals also showed heightened DTH resp.nse, increased IgG2a, elevated Thl cytokines （IFN-γ and IL-2） and reduced IgG 1 and IL-10 levels. Thus, mice immunized with the cocktail vaccine exhibited significantly greater p.otection in comp.rison to those immunized with individual antigens.
