Membrane distillation （MD） is a th.rmal, vapor-driven transportation process th.ough.micro porous h.droph.bic membranes th.t is increasingly being applied to seawater and brine desalination processes. Two types of h.droph.bic microporous polyeth.rsulfone fiat sh.et membranes, namely, annealed polyeth.rsulfone and a polyeth.rsulfone/tetraeth.xysilane （PES/TEOS） blend were prepared by a ph.se inversion process. Th. membranes were ch.racterized and th.ir performances were investigated using th. vacuum membrane distillation of an aqueous NaCI solution. Th. performances of th. prepared membranes were also compared with.two commercially available h.droph.bic membranes, polyte- trafluoreth.lene and polyvinylidene fluoride. Th. influence of operational parameters such.as feed temperature （25-65 ℃）, permeate vacuum pressure （200 800 mbar）, feed flow rate （8-22 mL/s） and feed salt concentration （3000 to 35000 mg/L） on th. MD permeation flux were investigated for th. four membranes. Th. h.droph.bic PES/TEOS membrane h.d th. h.gh.st salt rejection （99.7%） and permeate flux （86 kg/（m^2 -h.） at 65 ℃, with.a feed of 7000 ppm and a pressure of 200 mbar.

Purpose:Evaluation of th. patency and position of perforated lacrimal punctal plugs implanted for treating punctal stenosis togeth.r with.quantitative assessment of th. precorneal tear film using anterior segment optical coh.rence tomograph.(AS-OCT).Meth.ds:In a prospective study,th. lower punctum of 54 eyes of 29 patients implanted with.perforated punctal plugs were examined using AS-OCT during th. early postoperative *** tear meniscus h.igh.(TMh.and tear meniscus area(TMA)were ***,th. patency of th. plug,its position,TMh.and TMA were evaluated,and th. results were correlated with.postoperative *** scale was used for epiph.ra ***:Using AS-OCT,48(88.9%)plugs were found in proper position wh.le 6(11.1%)were *** lumen of th. plugs was completely patent in 47(87%)plugs,partially obstructed in 2(3.7%)plugs and completely occluded in 5(9.2%)*** was a statistically significant postoperative decrease of TMh.and TMA(Ph.ra Munk score(Ph.t can detect th. proper positioning,patency,and contents of th. implanted perforated lacrimal punctal plugs in addition to measurement of TMh.and TMA.

Th. problem of inter symbol interference（ ISI） in wireless communication systems caused by multipath.propagation wh.n using h.gh.order modulation like M-Q AMis solved. Since th. wireless receiver doesn＇t require a training sequence,a blind equalization ch.nnel is implemented in th. receiver to increase th. th.ough.ut of th. system. To improve th. performances of both.th. blind equalizer and th. system,a joint receiving mech.nismincluding variable step size（ VSS） modified constant modulus algorith.s（ MC-MA） and modified decision directed modulus algorith.s（ MD DMA） is proposed to ameliorate th. convergence speed and mean square error（ MSE） performance and combat th. ph.se error wh.n using h.gh.order QAM modulation. Th. VSS sch.me is based on th. selection of step size according to th. distance between th. output of th. equalizer and th. desired output in th. constellation plane. Analysis and simulations sh.wth.t th. performance of th. proposed VSS-MCMA-MD DMA mech.nismis better th.n th.t of algorith.s with.a fixed step size. In addition,th. A new non-binary decoding meth.d, wh.ch.is called Yaleth.ratalh.ssein decoding algorith., is designed and implemented for decoding non-binary convolutional codes wh.ch.is based on th. trellis diagram representing th. convolutional encoder. Yaleth.ratalh.ssein decoding algorith. outperforms th. Viterbi algorith. and oth.r algorith.s in its simplicity, very small computational complexity, decoding reliability for h.gh.states TCM codes th.t suitable for Fourth.Generation (4G), decreasing errors with.increasing word length. and easy to implement with.real-time applications. Th. proposed Yaleth.ratalh.ssein decoding algorith. deals with.non-binary error control coding of th. convolutional and TCM codes. Convolutional codes differ from block codes in th.t a block code takes a fixed message length.and encodes it, wh.reas a convolutional code can encode a continuous stream of data, and a h.rd-decision decoding can easily be realized using th. Yaleth.ratalh.ssein algorith.. Th. idea of non-binary codes h.s been extended for symbols defined over rings of integers, wh.ch.outperform binary codes with.only a small increase in decoding complexity. Th. simulation results sh.w th.t th. performance of th. nonbinary TCM-based Yaleth.ratalh.ssein algorith. outperforms th. binary and non-binary decoding meth.ds.
