Anomalous elasticity of talc at high pressures:Implications for subduction systems

Talc is a layered hydrous silicate mineral that plays a vital role in transporting water into Earth’s interior and is crucial for explaining geophysical observations in subduction zone *** this study,we explored the structure,equation of state,and elasticity of both triclinic and monoclinic talc under high pressures up to 18 GPa using first principles simulations based on density functional theory corrected for dispersive *** results indicate that principal components of the full elastic constant tensor C_(11) and C_(22),shear components C_(66),and several off-diagonal components show anomalous pressure *** non-monotonic pressure dependence of elastic constant components is likely related to the structural changes and is often manifested in a polytypic transition from a low-pressure polytype talc-I to a high-pressure polytype talc-Ⅱ.The polytypic transition of talc occurs at pressures within its thermodynamic ***,the bulk and shear elastic moduli show no anomalous *** study also shows that talc has low velocity,extremely high anisotropy,and anomalously high V_(P)/V_(S) ratio,thus making it a potential candidate mineral phase that could readily explain unusually high V_(P)/V_(S) ratio and large shear wave splitting delays as observed from seismological studies in many subduction systems.

Bayesian Rule Modeling for Interpretable Mortality Classification of COVID-19 Patients

Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)has been termed a“Pandemic Disease”that has infected many people and caused many deaths on a nearly unprecedented *** more people are infected each day,it continues to pose a serious threat to humanity *** a result,healthcare systems around the world are facing a shortage of medical space such as wards and *** most cases,healthy people experience tolerable symptoms if they are ***,in other cases,patients may suffer severe symptoms and require treatment in an intensive care ***,hospitals should select patients who have a high risk of death and treat them *** solve this problem,a number of models have been developed for mortality ***,they lack interpretability and *** prepare a model that addresses these issues,we proposed a COVID-19 mortality prediction model that could provide new *** identified blood factors that could affect the prediction of COVID-19 *** particular,we focused on dependency reduction using partial correlation and mutual ***,we used the Class-Attribute Interdependency Maximization(CAIM)algorithm to bin continuous ***,we used Jensen Shannon Divergence(JSD)and Bayesian posterior probability to create less redundant and more accurate *** provided a ruleset with its own posterior probability as a *** extracted rules are in the form of“if antecedent then results,posterior probability(θ)”.If the sample matches the extracted rules,then the result is *** average AUC Score was 96.77%for the validation dataset and the F1-score was 92.8%for the test *** to the results of previous studies,it shows good performance in terms of classification performance,generalization,and interpretability.

An Experimental Investigation of Aero-Foil-Shaped Pin Fin Arrays

Pin fins are widely used in applications where effective heat transfer is *** compact design,high surface area,and efficient heat transfer characteristics make them a practical choice for many thermal management *** for a high heat transfer rate and lightweight application,aerofoil shape pin fins are a good *** work focuses on an experimental model analysis of pin-fins with aerofoil *** results were evaluated between perforation,no perforation,inline,and staggered fin *** is used to make the pin fins *** experiment is carried out inside a wind tunnel,and the heat supply varies between 500 to 3000 *** electric heater,fan,anemometer,thermocouple,pressure transmitter,data logger,and computer system were used for this *** friction factor,thermal efficiency,performance efficacy,and pressure drop of a pin fin aerofoil shape have been assessed.A comparison study was carried out with and without perforations and inline and staggered *** terms of overall efficacy,different aerofoil shape pin fin arrays achieve values varying between 1.8 and *** acquired data demonstrate that perforated staggered configurations perform 10%better than ***,the pressure drop is reduced by 50%in staggered *** empirical correlation of Dittus-Bolter and Blasius correlations was used to validate the experimental heat dissipation enhancement factor requirements of Nusselt number and friction *** validation of the experiment using correlation has been completed ***,experimental results prove that aerofoil pin-fin arrays can be used successfully for applications like the electronics industry,heat exchangers and gas turbine blade cooling.

Gum Odina prebiotic prevents experimental colitis in C57BL/6 mice model and its role in shaping gut microbial diversity

Colitis is a multifaceted disease which is a global threat in the present *** is hypothesised that novel prebiotics like Gum Odina(GO)are emerging as preventive therapy to combat chronic gut diseases due to their ease of incorporation into diet and established health *** study illustrates the efficacy of GO in preventing dextran sodium sulfate(DSS)induced colitis in C57BL/6 mice and compares the results with Inulin(IN).Mice were grouped into Control,DSS,GO,and *** from the control,mice from other groups were administered with 2%DSS *** and IN were also fed to the respective groups for 28 *** reduction in body weight,colon length,mucosal dysplasia and disease activity index were found less in GO compared to ***8+T cell population were reduced in GO(10.28±0.09%)when compared to DSS(30.03±0.23%)and IN(15.25±0.25).GO increased the release of anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 and reduced TNF-α,IFN-γ,IL-1βand IL-12 along with downregulation of iNOS expression in the ***-generation sequencing data revealed the stool sample of colitis patient was dominated by Prevotella *** with other pathogenic *** increase in the diversity of gut bacteria and the abundance of commensal bacteria like Lactobacillus *** Enterococcus *** observed when the stool sample of a colitis patient was cultured in the gut simulator and GO was added into the ***,GO alleviate intestinal damage and slows colitis progression.

Advancing COVID-19 Diagnosis with CNNs: An Empirical Study of Learning Rates and Optimization Strategies

The rapid spread of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) has emphasized the necessity for advanced diagnostic tools to enhance the detection and management of the virus. This study investigates the effectiveness of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) in the diagnosis of COVID-19 from chest X-ray and CT images, focusing on the impact of varying learning rates and optimization strategies. Despite the abundance of chest X-ray datasets from various institutions, the lack of a dedicated COVID-19 dataset for computational analysis presents a significant challenge. Our work introduces an empirical analysis across four distinct learning rate policies—Cyclic, Step Based, Time-Based, and Epoch Based—each tested with four different optimizers: Adam, Adagrad, RMSprop, and Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD). The performance of these configurations was evaluated in terms of training and validation accuracy over 100 epochs. Our results demonstrate significant differences in model performance, with the Cyclic learning rate policy combined with SGD optimizer achieving the highest validation accuracy of 83.33%. This study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by outlining effective CNN configurations for COVID-19 image dataset analysis, offering insights into the optimization of machine learning models for the diagnosis of infectious diseases. Our findings underscore the potential of CNNs in supplementing traditional PCR tests, providing a computational approach to identify patterns in chest X-rays and CT scans indicative of COVID-19, thereby aiding in the swift and accurate diagnosis of the virus.

Integration of virtual reality(VR)technology into preoperative patient education has shown potential to improve nursing *** study by Kim et al examines the impact of VR on nurse satisfaction,usability,and burnout.A prospective study involving 20 nurses and 80 patients was conducted,comparing traditional paper-based education with VR-based education in the plastic surgery ward at Chungnam National University *** demonstrated that VR significantly enhanced satisfaction and usability among nurses,while also reducing emotional exhaustion,a critical factor in nurse *** in education quality was also improved,ensuring uniform patient *** results underscore the importance of VR in reducing the stress of repetitive tasks,improving job satisfaction,and potentially enhancing nurse *** research should explore the broader applications of VR in healthcare and address the logistical challenges of integrating this technology into routine clinical *** study by Kim et al highlights VR’s transformative potential in preoperative education for both patients and healthcare providers.

The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome CoronaVirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)virus spread the novel CoronaVirus−19(nCoV-19)pandemic,resulting in millions of fatalities *** research demonstrated that the Protein-Protein Interaction(PPI)between SARS-CoV-2 and human proteins is accountable for viral ***,many of these PPIs are poorly understood and unexplored,necessitating a more in-depth investigation to find latent yet critical *** article elucidates the host-viral PPI through Machine Learning(ML)lenses and validates the biological significance of the same using web-based *** classifiers are designed based on comprehensive datasets with five sequence-based features of human proteins,namely Amino Acid Composition,Pseudo Amino Acid Composition,Conjoint Triad,Dipeptide Composition,and Normalized Auto Correlation.A majority voting rule-based ensemble method composed of the Random Forest Model(RFM),AdaBoost,and Bagging technique is proposed that delivers encouraging statistical performance compared to other models employed in this *** proposed ensemble model predicted a total of 111 possible SARS-CoV-2 human target proteins with a high likelihood factor≥70%,validated by utilizing Gene Ontology(GO)and KEGG pathway enrichment ***,this research can aid in a deeper understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying viral pathogenesis and provide clues for developing more efficient anti-COVID medications.

Dependence of Plasma Parameters on Plate Separation and Filament Location in a Double Plasma Device

A pair of stainless steel (ss) plates separates the source and target regions of a double plasma device. Two sets of tungsten filaments, placed at different distances from the ss plates, are then used to produce plasma alternately and the plasma parameters in the source and target regions for different discharge voltage, discharge current and plate separation are measured using Langmuir probes. It is found that plasma density and electron temperature are considerably affected and respond differently to changes in the plate separations and the position of the filaments.
