Sol-gel derived B_(2)O_(3)-CaO borate bioactive glasses with hemostatic,antibacterial and pro-angiogenic activities

Sol-gel borate bioactive glasses(BGs)are promising ion-releasing biomaterials for wound healing ***,we report the synthesis of a series of binary B_(2)O_(3)-CaO borate BGs(CaO ranging from 50 to 90mol%)using a sol-gel-based *** influence of CaO content in B_(2)O_(3)-CaO borate BG on morphology,structure and ion release behavior was investigated in *** dissolution(ion release)and crystallization could be observed in borate BGs when CaO content increased,while the morphology was not significantly altered by increasing CaO *** results evidenced that the ion release behavior of borate BGs could be tailored by tuning the B_(2)O_(3)/CaO molar *** also evaluated the in vitro cytotoxicity,hemostatic,antibacterial and angiogenic activities of borate *** was validated for all borate ***,borate BGs exhibited composition-dependent hemostatic,antibacterial and angiogenic ***,higher contents of Ca in borate BGs facilitated hemostatic activity,while higher contents of B_(2)O_(3) were beneficial for pro-angiogenic *** synthesized sol-gel-derived borate BGs are promising materials for developing advanced wound healing dressings,given their fast ion release behavior and favorable hemostatic,antibacterial and angiogenic activities.

Micro and nano-enabled approaches to improve the performance of plasma electrolytic oxidation coated magnesium alloys

Magnesium(Mg)and its alloys have become a hot research topic in various industries owing to the specific physical and chemical ***,high corrosion rate is considered the key *** electrolytic oxidation(PEO)method is a simple strategy to deposit an oxide layer on the surface of light metals such as magnesium alloys,to control corrosion rate and promote some other properties,depending on their ***,their features including their micropore size,distribution,and interconnectivity,and microcracks have not been improved to an acceptable level to support long-term performances of the magnesium-based *** have introduced micro/nano-enabled approaches to enhance various properties of PEO coatings such as corrosion resistance,tribological properties,self-healing ability,bioactivity,biocompatibility,antibacterial properties,or catalytic *** strategies consist of incorporating of micro and nanoparticles into the PEO layers to produce multi-functional surfaces or the formation of multi-layered coatings to cover the defects of PEO *** this perspective,the present paper aims to overview various nano/micro-enabled strategies to promote the properties of PEO coatings on magnesium *** main focus is given to the functional changes that occurred in response to the incorporation of various types of nano/micro-structures into the PEO coatings on magnesium alloys.

A Combinational Perspective in Stimulating Cooperation in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

In wireless ad hoc networks cooperation among nodes cannot always be assumed since nodes with limited resources and different owners are capable of making independent decisions. Cooperation problems in topology control and packet forwarding tasks have been mostly studied separately but these two tasks are not independent. Considering a joint cooperation problem by taking into account dependencies between tasks will result in more reliable and efficient networks. In this paper topology control definition is extended to cover cooperation problem in both packet forwarding and topology control in a single problem. In this definition nodes have to adjust their transmission power and decide on their relay role. This paper models the interactions of nodes as a potential game with two-dimensional utility function. The presented model, named TCFORCE （Topology Control packet FORwarding Cooperation Enforcement）, preserves the network connectivity and reduces the energy consumption by providing cooperative paths between all pairs of nodes in the network.

A self-healing and bioactive coating based on duplex plasma electrolytic oxidation/polydopamine on AZ91 alloy for bone implants

Magnesium(Mg) alloys are well-known in biomedical materials owing to their elastic module near to bone, biocompatibility and biodegradation properties. Nevertheless, poor corrosion resistance hinders their biomedical applications. Besides, it is necessary to endow Mg alloys with bioactive property, which is crucial for temporary bone implants. Here, a self-healing, corrosion resistant and bioactive duplex coating of plasma electrolytic oxidization(PEO)/polydopamine(PDA) is applied on AZ91 substrate using PEO and subsequent electrodeposition process. Moreover, the role of different electrodeposition times(60 s, 120 s) and dopamine concentrations(1 and 1.5 mg/ml) to improve corrosion resistance, bioactivity, biocompatibility and self-healing property and its mechanism are investigated. The results indicate that the PEO coating is efficiently sealed by the PDA, depending on the electrodeposition parameters. Noticeably, electrodeposition for 120 s in dopamine concentration of 1 mg/ml(120T-1C) results in the formation of uniform and crack-free PDA coating. Duplex PEO/PDA coatings reveal high bioactivity compared to PEO coating, owing to electrostatic interaction between PDA top-layer and calcium and phosphate ions as well as high hydrophilicity of coatings. In addition, duplex PEO/PDA coatings also show improved and more stable protective performance than the PEO and bare alloy, depending on the PDA deposition parameters. Noticeably, the corrosion current density of the 120T-1C decreases one orders of magnitude compared to PEO. In addition, the presence of a broad passivation region in the anodic polarization branch shows durable self-healing property via Zipper-like mechanism, demonstrating the duplex coating could preserve promising corrosion ***, the cytocompatibility of duplex coated samples is also confirmed via interaction with MG63 cells. The perception of a 3D space, in which movement takes place, is subjectively based on experience. The pedestrians＇ perception of subjective duration is one of the related issues that receive tittle attention in urban design Literature. Pedestrians often misperceive the required time to pass a certain distance. A wide range of factors affects one＇s perception of time in urban environments. These factors include individua（ factors （e.g., gender, age, and psychoLogicaL state）, social and cu（tural contexts, purpose and motivation for being in the space, and knowledge of the given area. This study aims to create an applied checklist that can be used by urban designers in analyzing the effects of individual experience on subjective duration. This checklist wilt enable urban designers to perform a phenomenotogicat assessment of time perception and compare this perception in different urban spaces, thereby improving pedestrians＇ experiences of time through a purposeful design. A combination of exploratory and descriptive anaLyticaL research is used as methodology due to the complexity of time perception.

Bayesian estimation of the time-varying reproduction number for pulmonary tuberculosis in Iran:A registry-based study from 2018 to 2022 using new smear-positive cases

Introduction Tuberculosis(TB)is one of the most prevalent infectious diseases in the world,causing major public health problems in developing *** rate of TB incidence in Iran was estimated to be 13 per 100,000 in *** study aimed to estimate the reproduction number and serial interval for pulmonary tuberculosis in *** and methods The present national historical cohort study was conducted from March 2018 to March 2022 based on data from the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Registration Center of Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education(MOHME).The study included 30,762 tuberculosis cases and 16,165 new smear-positive pulmonary tuberculosis patients in *** estimated the reproduction number of pulmonary tuberculosis in a Bayesian framework,which can incorporate uncertainty in estimating *** analyses were accomplished in R *** The mean age at diagnosis of patients was 52.3±21.2 years,and most patients were in the 35–63 age group(37.1%).Among the data,9121(56.4%)cases were males,and 7044(43.6%)were *** patients,7459(46.1%)had a delayed diagnosis between 1 and 3 ***,3039(18.8%)cases were non-Iranians,and 2978(98%)were *** time-varying reproduction number for pulmonary tuberculosis disease was calculated at an average of 1.06±0.05(95%Crl 0.96–1.15).Conclusions In this study,the incidence and the time-varying reproduction number of pulmonary tuberculosis showed the same *** mean of the time-varying reproduction number indicated that each infected person is causing at least one new infection over time,and the chain of transmission is not being disrupted.

Is big team research fair in national research assessments? The case of the UK Research Excellence Framework 2021

Collaborative research causes problems for research assessments because of the difficulty in fairly crediting its *** splitting the rewards for an article amongst its authors has the greatest surface-level fairness,many important evaluations assign full credit to each author,irrespective of team *** underlying rationales for this are labour reduction and the need to incentivise collaborative work because it is necessary to solve many important societal *** article assesses whether full counting changes results compared to fractional counting in the case of the UK’s Research Excellence Framework(REF)*** this assessment,fractional counting reduces the number of journal articles to as little as 10%of the full counting value,depending on the Unit of Assessment(UoA).Despite this large difference,allocating an overall grade point average(GPA)based on full counting or fractional counting gives results with a median Pearson correlation within UoAs of *** largest changes are for Archaeology(r=0.84)and Physics(r=0.88).There is a weak tendency for higher scoring institutions to lose from fractional counting,with the loss being statistically significant in 5 of the 34 ***,whilst the apparent over-weighting of contributions to collaboratively authored outputs does not seem too problematic from a fairness perspective overall,it may be worth examining in the few UoAs in which it makes the most difference.

For tunnels being excavated through multiple knowledge of the aquifers’hydraulic head becomes essential for determining groundwater inflow into the tunnel and analyzing its stability,specifically using multilevel monitoring *** the multi-aquifer alluvial section of the Glas tunnel(Iran),since the hydraulic head calculations were based on the data obtained from single-piezometer boreholes,the excavation risk was assessed to be at high level and the tunnel seemed to be unstable,thus an incorrect conclusion was derived from the misleading *** take cost mitigation measures into account,it was necessary to calculate the hydraulic head at tunnel level *** installing nested and clustered wells the mean hydraulic head was measured to be 70 m,significantly different from the 90 m previously determined by *** the updated value,the groundwater inflow and bulkhead load,formerly calculated as 0.65 m^(3)/s and 9.5 bars,were determined to be 0.49 m^(3)/s and 7.5 bars,respectively.

We investigate the ability to reconstruct and derive spatial structure from sparsely sampled 3D piezoresponse force microcopy data,captured using the band-excitation(BE)technique,via Gaussian Process(GP)*** for weakly informative priors,GP methods allow unambiguous determination of the characteristic length scales of the imaging process both in spatial and frequency *** further show that BE data set tends to be oversampled in the spatial domains,with~30% of original data set sufficient for high-quality reconstruction,potentially enabling faster BE *** the same time,reliable reconstruction along the frequency domain requires the resonance peak to be within the measured *** behavior suggests the optimal strategy for the BE imaging on unknown ***,we discuss how GP can be used for automated experimentation in SPM,by combining GP regression with non-rectangular scans.
