"Weather" transit is reliable? Using AVL data to explore tram performance in Melbourne,Australia

This paper uses automatic vehicle location （AVL） records to investigate the effect of weather conditions on the travel time reliability of on-road rail transit, through a case study of the Melbourne streetcar （tram） network. The datasets available were an extensive historica; AVL dataset as well as weather observations. The sample size used in the analysis included all trips made over a period of five years （2006-2010 inclusive）, during the morning peak （7 am-9 am） for fifteen randomly selected radial tram routes, all traveling to the Melbourne CBD create a linear model Ordinary least square （OLS） regression analysis was conducted to with tram travel time being the dependent variable. An alternative formulation of the model is also compared. Travel time was regressed on various weather effects including precipitation, air temperature, sea level pressure and wind speed; as well as indicator variables for weekends, public holidays and route numbers to investigate a correlation between weather condition and the on-time performance of the trams. The results indicate that only precipitation and air temperature are significant in their effect on tram travel time. The model demonstrates that on average, an additional millimeter of precipitation during the peak period adversely affects the average travel time during that period by approximately 8 s, that is, rainfall tends to increase the travel time. The effect of air temperature is less intuitive, with the model indicating that trams adhere more closely to schedule when the temperature is different in absolute terms to the mean operating conditions （taken as 15 ℃）.

An empirical comparison of four technology-mediated travel survey methods

The increasing demana for advanced modelling methods, which can reflect complex travel activities of individuals, requires enhanced travel data collection methods. The introduction of GPS-assisted data collection methods has provided an alternative to the conventional methods of travel data collection. GPS-assisted data collection methods improve the accu- racy of data collection and enable capturing more details of individuals＇ travel behaviour. Recent technological advancements in smartphone-based positioning technologies and communication facilities have opened up new opportunities to apply smartphones as the media of GPS-assisted data collection. Although, different GPS-assisted methods have been employed recently, their performance has not been widely evaluated in real-world experi- ments compared to traditional data collection methods. Accordingly, this paper evaluates the performance of three GPS-assisted methods, namely handheld GPS tracking, smart- phone-based GPS tracking and smartphone-based prompted-recall data collection methods, in conjunction with the web-based data collection to shed light on different aspects of GPS- assisted data collection methods. These methods are compared in terms of the quality and accuracy of the collected data, the demographic attributes of participants and the specifi- cations of labelled trips. The results show that an appropriate employment of smartphones enhances the accuracy of data collection. It is also found that putting an extra burden on participants during a travel data collection survey results in lower trip-rates and poor data quality. Finally, it is found that the application of smartphone-assisted data collection methods help reporting non-motorised trips more accurately.

The cerium conversion coating(CeCC) containing copper and manganese cations was applied to the galvanized *** microstructure and the composition of specimen were analyzed by field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS).Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) and polarization tests were conducted in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution to investigate the coating corrosion *** results show that there are improvements in corrosion resistance and microstructure of CeCC containing copper and manganese cations but copper ions increase corrosion resistance of CeCC from 5800 to 27000 Ω·cm^(2).

There are numerous correlations and thermodynamic models for predicting the natural gas hydrate formation condition but still the lack of a simple and unifying general model that addresses a broad ranges of gas *** study was aimed to develop a user-friendly universal correlation based on hybrid group method of data handling(GMDH)for prediction of hydrate formation temperature of a wide range of natural gas mixtures including sweet and sour *** establish the hybrid GMDH,the total experimental data of 343 were obtained from open *** selection of input variables was based on the hydrate structure formed by each gas *** modeling resulted in a strong algorithm since the squared correlation coefficient(R2)and root mean square error(RMSE)were 0.9721 and 1.2152,*** comparison to some conventional correlation,this model represented not only the outstanding statistical parameters but also its absolute superiority over *** particular,the result was encouraging for sour gases concentrated at H2S to the extent that the model outstrips all available thermodynamic models and *** statistical approach was applied on datasets to the discovery of the defected and doubtful experimental data and suitability of the *** to this algorithm,approximately all the data points were in the proper range of the model and the proposed hybrid GMDH model was statistically reliable.

Development of a least squares support vector machine model for prediction of natural gas hydrate formation temperature

Hydrates always are considered as a threat to petroleum industry due to the operational problems it can *** problems could result in reducing production performance or even production stoppage for a long *** this paper, we were intended to develop a LSSVM algorithm for prognosticating hydrate formation temperature(HFT) in a wide range of natural gas mixtures. A total number of 279 experimental data points were extracted from open literature to develop the LSSVM. The input parameters were chosen based on the hydrate structure that each gas species form. The modeling resulted in a robust algorithm with the squared correlation coefficients(R^2) of 0.9918. Aside from the excellent statistical parameters of the model, comparing proposed LSSVM with some of conventional correlations showed its supremacy, particularly in the case of sour gases with high H_2S concentrations, where the model surpasses all correlations and existing thermodynamic models. For detection of the probable doubtful experimental data, and applicability of the model, the Leverage statistical approach was performed on the data sets. This algorithm showed that the proposed LSSVM model is statistically valid for HFT prediction and almost all the data points are in the applicability domain of the model.

A robust predictive tool for estimating CO2 solubility in potassium based amino acid salt solutions

The acid gas absorption in four potassium based amino acid salt solutions was predicted using artificial neural network(ANN). Two hundred fifty-five experimental data points for CO_2 absorption in the four potassium based amino acid salt solutions containing potassium lysinate, potassium prolinate, potassium glycinate, and potassium taurate were used in this modeling. Amine salt solution's type, temperature, equilibrium partial pressure of acid gas, the molar concentration of the solution, molecular weight, and the boiling point were considered as inputs to ANN to prognosticate the capacity of amino acid salt solution to absorb acid gas. Regression analysis was employed to assess the performance of the network. Levenberg–Marquardt back-propagation algorithm was used to train the optimal ANN with 5:12:1 architecture. The model findings indicated that the proposed ANN has the capability to predict precisely the absorption of acid gases in various amino acid salt solutions with Mean Square Error(MSE) value of 0.0011, the Average Absolute Relative Deviation(AARD) percent of 5.54%,and the correlation coefficient(R^2) of 0.9828.

在过去十年中,深度学习以惊人的速度发展。深度神经网络模型用于解决各种实际问题,其中一些问题需要更高的精度和极低的回归系数,包括图像分类、目标检测、自动驾驶汽车的实时分类和监控系统。由于其在各种视觉任务中的应用,图像分类受到了相当大的关注,它可助于解决复杂问题。深度神经网络在很大程度上取代了传统的滤波器,可是目前的成像技术无法完全代替人力。因此,考虑如何通过使用迁移学习技术来改进现有的视觉成像技术十分重要。本文的目的是利用转移学习技术提高多类图像分类的精度。深度卷积神经网络结构的发展对于提高图像分类任务的性能至关重要。由于照片的前景复杂,以及不同类别图像之间的相似性,在图像识别方面仍然存在重大障碍。CNN体系结构VGG19、Res Net50、Inception V3和Xception通过具有恒定的基线学习拓扑来提高各自模型的性能,从而得出用于图像分类的结论。多类图像分类工作是使用现有CNN模型和转移学习技术的组合来完成的。主要研究内容如下:根据任务要求,已构建并研究了VGG19、Res Net50、Inception V3和Xception模型的多类图像分类布局方法和体系结构。使用Jupyter notebook中的Keras库,在同一数据集上独立构建所有模型。在后端,使用了Tensor Flow。预处理中的图像增强方法正在得到应用。研究了均值归一化的重要性,并确定了各种数据扩充的方法。通过将输入转换为浮点Num Py数组来预处理输入,该数组生成成批量的浮点张量。研究了模型的过拟合和欠拟合问题,以及是否需要退出正则化。为了提高精度,已配置回调和其他超参数。讨论了降损函数的要求及其对模型性能的影响。分类交叉熵用于评估损失函数。选择Adam优化器来改变神经网络的属性,如权重和学习率,并选择Soft Max分类器来预测图像各自的类别。本文研究了转移学习在多类图像分类中的主要应用方法,并将其应用于我们的多类图像分类挑战。为了减少计算成本和训练时间以及昂贵的数据标记,采用了任务转移学习方法。在迁移学习之后,我们为不同的模型设置不同的可训练参数,以便对模型进行再训练。在编译现有模型并使用迁移学习方法后,我们对CNN模型进行了微调。采用浅层调谐方法,并研究了应微调哪一层。利用分类任务结果进行比较。将用于多类图像分类的深度学习算法的性能与使用相同参数的不同数据集的性能进行比较。与所选预训练模型的精度进行了比较,结果表明,我们的微调模型精度较高;在训练和测试以及模型的整体准确性方面。我们使用同一模型对不同的数据集以及实验中使用的数据集进行了精度比较,发现我们的精度更高。演示深度学习算法的易用性。实验证明,通过确定准确的参数,可以提高多类图像分类的精度;例如学习率、批量大小以及在微调过程中确定准确的可训练参数。通过我们选择的脱落正则化和参数0.5,表明模型不受过拟合问题的影响,从而提高了精度。几位作者使用相同的模型进行了研究并进行了微调;但我们的微调方法和参数与其他方法不同。在迁移学习阶段之后,我们立即开始微调阶段的再训练;这样我们就可以利用预先训练好的模型知识;因此,我们更新了选择性层权重,并减少了计算时间。预先训练的模型使用SGD、RMSprop优化器,但我们使用Adam优化器;在将输入放入分类层之前,我们使用了全局平均池层;因为全局平均池层保留了单个图像特征贴图的深度。在我们的实验中,我们使用了具有选择参数3的早期停止函数。这可以防止模型过度训练。

The reversibility of sperm quality after discontinuing nandrolone decanoate in adult male rats

Aim： To investigate the reversibility of the effect of nandrolone decanoate （ND） on sperm parameters after discontinuing the drug. Methods： Three groups of rats received peanut oil （control）, low and high doses of ND for 14 weeks, respectively. Each group was divided into subgroups A and B, in which rats were killed 14 and 28 weeks after initiating the injection, respectively. Results： Sperm count and motile sperm fraction were decreased in the subgroups A and B that received low and high doses of ND in comparison with the controls A and B, respectively. The sperm count and motile sperm fraction increased in the subgroups B that received low and high doses of ND in comparison with their corresponding subgroups A. The number of normal morphology sperm was decreased significantly in subgroups A receiving low and high doses of ND in comparison with the control subgroup A. However, this parameter was not decreased in subgroups B receiving low and high doses in comparison with the control subgroup B. The normal sperm morphology did not show any significant differences in the subgroups B in comparison with their corresponding subgroups A. Conclusion： The 14-week injection of low and high doses of ND decreases sperm quality and quantity in rats. These parameters were improved after discontinuing ND, but not recovered completely even when they are left untreated for 14 weeks.

Measurement of inter-particle forces by an interfacial force microscope

An interfacial force microscope （IFM） was employed to measure the inter-particle forces between two individual glass beads with diameters varying from 8 to 20 μm. With the feedback function of IFM turned off, attractive forces were obtained. The forces varied in the range of 0.1-0.34 μN, and their validity was confirmed by a theoretical analysis of the van der Waals force between the same glass beads. With the feedback function switched on, no attractive forces between particles were detected by the IFM when the probe approached the sample substrate. This may be attributed to the dramatic change of the attractive forces within a very short separation distance and/or the relatively poor signal-to-noise ratio of the IFM.

Effects of cross-anisotropy and stress-dependency of pavement layers on pavement responses under dynamic truck loading

Previous studies by the authors have determined pavement responses under dynamic loading consid- ering cross-anisotropy in one layer only, either the cross-anisotropic viscoelastic asphalt concrete （AC） layer or the cross-anisotropic stress-dependent base layer, but not both. This study evaluates pavement stress-strain responses considering cross-anisotropy in all layers, i.e. AC, base and subbase, using finite element modeling （FEM） technique. An instrumented pavement section on Interstate 1-40 near Albuquerque, New Mexico was used in ABAQUS framework as model geometry. Field asphalt cores were collected and tested in the laboratory to determine the cross-anisotropy （n-values） defined by horizontal to vertical modulus ratio, and other viscoelastic parameters as inputs of the model incorporated through user defined material interface （UMAT） functionality in ABAQUS. Field base and subbase materials were also collected and tested in the laboratory to determine stress-dependent nonlinear elastic model parameters, as inputs of the model, again incorporated through UMAT. The model validation task was carried out using field-measured deflections and strain values under falling weight deflectometer （FWD） loads at the instrumented section. The validated model was then subjected to an actual truck loading for studying cross-anisotropic effects. It was observed that horizontal tensile strain at the bottom of the AC layer and vertical strains in all layers decreased with an increase in n-value of the asphalt layer, from n （ 1 （anisotropy） to n - 1 （isotropy）. This indicates that the increase in horizontal modulus caused the decrease in layer strains. It was also observed that if the base and subbase layers were considered stressdependent instead of linear elastic unbound layers, the horizontal tensile strain at the bottom of the asphalt layer increased and vertical strains on top of the base and subbase also increased.
