Introduction: Gastroesophageal ref.ux disease (GERD) is a benign and chronic disease that can impair the quality of.lif.. Objective: To study the epidemiological, clinical aspects and f.ctors associated with typical GERD in the general population of.Parakou in the Republic of.Benin. Methods: This was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study with prospective data collection which took place f.om May 1, 2019 to June 30, 2019. The study population consisted of.any subject aged at least 15 years and living in Parakou. Subjects aged at least 15 years, present on the day of.the survey and having given their f.ee and inf.rmed verbal consent were included. The Short f.rm of.QRS®(Ref.ux-Qual Short f.rm) questionnaire and the “Hospital Anxiety and Depression” score were used to assess the quality of.lif. and anxiety/depression, respectively. The sampling was probabilistic through a 2-stage cluster sampling. The variable of.interest was the presence of.GERD. Results: Out of.390 subjects surveyed, 28 had symptoms of.typical GERD, representing a prevalence of.7.18%. The average age of.these subjects was 27.11 ± 7.88 years. f.f.een subjects (53.57%) were male, giving a sex ratio of.1.15. f.urteen (50%) had a secondary level of.education, 12 (42.86%) were pupils/students, 18 (64.29%) were single. The monthly income of.22 subjects (78.57%) was lower than the guaranteed interprof.ssional minimum wage (40,000 f.f.). The average duration of.progression of.symptoms was 15.89 ± 4.97 months. Symptoms occurred less than twice a week in 22 subjects (78.57%). The clinical manif.stations were both diurnal and nocturnal in 12 subjects (42.86%). None of.the 28 subjects with GERD had clinical warning signs. Asthma, diabetes, consumption of.high f.t or spice f.ods, carbonated drinks, non-steroidal anti-inf.ammatory drugs, alcoholic beverages and tobacco were statistically associated with the occurrence of.GERD. Introduction: Gender-based violence constitutes a public health problem. The objective of.this study is to determine the f.equency and f.ctors associated with gender-based violence. Study f.amework and Method: This was a retrospective, descriptive, cross-sectional study with an analytical aim over the period f.om January 2016 to December 2022. The study took place in the Integrated Support Center f.r Victims and Survivors of.Gender-Based Violence located in the Departmental University Hospital Center of.Borgou and Alibori. The study population consisted of.people who were victims of.gender-based violence in the northern region of.Benin, regardless of.their age and gender. Results: The study population consisted of.1198 subjects. The average age of.the victims was 21.76 ± 10.02;f.male victims represented 96.4%, with a sex ratio equal to 0.037 (43/1155). Sexual violence was the most represented (50.25%), f.llowed by psychological (29.30%), physical (24.37%), economic (13.77%) and property (2%). The f.ctors associated with violence were married people and monthly income (physical violence), minors, f.male gender and single people (sexual violence), polygamous households and monthly income (economic violence), the absence of.children burden, married people and monthly income (psychological violence), married people (property violence). Conclusion: Gender-based violence is f.equent in the North of.Benin and is dominated by sexual violence. The victims are mainly f.male.

Quantif.cation of.non-coding RNA target localization diversity and its application in cancers

SubceUular localization is pivotal f.r RNAs and proteins to implement biological f.nctions. The localization diversity of.protein interactions has been studied as a crucial f.ature of.proteins, considering that the protein-protein interactions take place in vari- ous subceltutar locations. Nevertheless, the localization diversity of.non-coding RNA （ncRNA） target proteins has not been sys- tematically studied, especially its characteristics in cancers. In this study, we provide a new algorithm, non-coding RNA target localization coef.icient （ncTALENT）, to quantif. the target localization diversity of.ncRNAs based on the ncRNA-protein interaction and protein subcellular localization data. ncTALENT can be used to calculate the target localization coef.icient of.ncRNAs and measure how diversely their targets are distributed among the subcellular locations in various scenarios. We f.cus our study on long non-coding RNAs （IncRNAs）, and our observations reveal that the target localization diversity is a primary characteristic of.IncRNAs in dif.erent biotypes. Moreover, we f.und that IncRNAs in multiple cancers, dif.erentially expressed cancer IncRNAs, and IncRNAs with multiple cancer target proteins are prone to have high target localization diversity. f.rthermore, the analysis of.gastric cancer helps us to obtain a better understanding that the target localization diversity of.IncRNAs is an important f.ature closely related to clinical prognosis. Overall, we systematically studied the target localization diversity of.the IncRNAs and uncovered its association with cancer.

Introduction: Viral hepatitis B is a public health problem worldwide. The objective of.this study was to determine the epidemiological and diagnostic prof.le of.chronic carriers of.hepatitis B virus seen f.r gastroenterology consultations in Parakou, Republic of.Benin. Patients and Methods: This was a cross-sectional and descriptive study with retrospective data collection. Patients seen f.r gastroenterology consultations f.om January 1, 2017 to June 30, 2021 at the Regional Teaching Hospital of.Borgou/Alibori (CHUD-B/A) and having been diagnosed as chronic carriers of.hepatitis B virus were included. A minimum initial assessment was required to be included. The minimum sample size was calculated with Schwartz f.rmula. The variable of.interest was the detection of.HBsAg twice and at least 6 months apart. The other variables studied were sociodemographic, clinical and paraclinical data. The data collected were analyzed using SPSS 17 sof.ware. Results: A total of.2786 patients were seen f.r gastroenterology consultations, including 1126 (40.4%) HBsAg-positive patients. Among them, 417 patients met the inclusion criteria and were the subject of.the present study. The average age of.the patients was 34.8 ± 10.5 years. Two hundred and f.rty-seven patients (65.7%) were male, representing a sex ratio of.1.9. The discovery of.positive HBsAg status was made during systematic screening in 231 patients (55.4%). Scarif.cations were noted in 373 patients (89.4%). Asthenia was reported in 184 patients (44.1%). Co-inf.ctions with human immunodef.ciency virus, hepatitis C and D viruses were 0% (0 in 92), 2.8% (4 in 146) and 14.3% (2 in 146), respectively. During the initial assessment, 274 patients (65.7%) were sero-negative f.r chronic HBeAg inf.ction, 21 (5%) had clinically signif.cant f.brosis including 16 (3.8%) at the stage of.cirrhosis and 7 patients (5.4%) had hepatocellular carcinoma. BACKGROUND The importance of.early diagnosis of.alcoholic liver disease underscores the need to seek better and especially non-invasive diagnostic *** cellderived chemotaxin-2(LECT2)has been widely studied to determine its usef.lness in monitoring the course of.non-alcoholic f.tty liver disease but not f.r alcoholic liver cirrhosis(ALC).AIM To determine the concentration of.LECT2 in the blood serum of.patients in relation to progressive stages of.ALC,its relation to f.broblast growth f.ctor 1(f.f.1)and f.f.21,and to examine the possible wider use of.LECT2 in diagnosing *** A retrospective case-control study was conducted with 69 ALC cases and 17 controls with no *** were recruited f.om the region of.Lublin(eastern Poland).Liver cirrhosis was diagnosed based on clinical f.atures,history of.heavy alcohol consumption,laboratory tests,and abdominal *** degree of.ALC was evaluated according to Pugh-Child criteria(the Pugh-Child score).Blood was drawn and,af.er centrif.gation,serum was collected f.r ***2,f.f.1,and f.f.21 were determined using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay *** The LECT2 Levels in the control group were 18.99±5.36 ng/*** the study groups,they declined with the progression of.cirrhosis to 11.06±6.47 ng/mL in one group and to 8.06±5.74 ng/mL in the other(Pf.rmed the statistically signif.cant dif.erences in LECT2 Levels between the control group and both test groups(P=0.006 and Pf.f.21 Levels were 44.27±64.19 pg/mL in the f.rst test group,45.4±51.69 pg/mL in the second(P=0.008),and 13.52±7.51 pg/mL in the control *** dif.erence between the control group and the second test group was statistically signif.cant(P=0.007).CONCLUSION We suggest that LECT2 may be a non-invasive diagnostic f.ctor f.r alcoholinduced liver *** usef.lness of.LECT2 f.r non-invasive monitoring of.alcohol-induced liver cirrhosis was indirectly conf.rmed b

Goals: The study has been initiated in order to describe the epidemiological, clinical and etiological aspect of.the ascites. Patients and methods: This was a retrospective and descriptive study on the patients with an ascite and f.llowed at the medicine department of.Borgou departmental teaching hospital. Results: A total of.190 patients have presented an ascite or a hospital prevalence at 3.93%. A male predominance has been observed with a sex-ratio at 1.7. The average age was 39.7 ± 13.9 years. The reason f.r consultation is dominated by the increase of.the abdominal volume (69.5%). The ascite f.uid is macroscopically yellow citrine. The cirrhosis (28.5%) and the heart diseases (18.6%) were the most encountered causes of.the ascites. Conclusion: The etiologies of.ascites are various and dominated by the hepatic cirrhosis and the heart diseases.

Binary Tree-Genetic Algorithm (BTGA) is applied successf.lly in various classif.cation tasks. At each non-terminal node, genetic algorithms (GAs) are employed to f.nd the optimal hyperplane to partition samples into two disjoint subsets. A novel decision tree, called genetic algorithm-based quadratic decision tree (GA-based QDT), is proposed by extending the BTGA. In the GA-based QDT, GAs are applied to evolve the optimal quadratic hyper-surf.ce at each non-terminal node. The perf.rmance of.the GA-based QDT is evaluated and compared with several well known decision tree algorithms, including the BTGA.
