Analysing user daylight preferences in heritage buildings using virtual reality

Technology has always been creating effective ways to support human *** virtual reality(IVR)has emerged to engage users in a simulated world,and this has gained the interest of a wide variety of users in the heritage industry.A historical case study built in the early 19th century is considered for an adaptive reuse *** palace is located in Cairo,Egypt,and named after Prince Omar *** current palace state incorporates a smashed top-lit zone,which is being studied and analyzed for daylighting *** simulated distinct optimum skylight configurations are suggested for the redesign where the selection should not be based solely on simulation data,but should consider real-user *** daylight design criteria are previously based on simulation data that do not necessarily indicate the users'*** utilizing user interactive tools such as IVR to test daylight redesign options,a whole new dimension is *** this study,the VR users’survey data is statistically analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences(SPSS),where results revealed that the assessment attributes succeeded in reflecting the users'preferences;which,motivated designers to consider potential users’daylight preferences in reused *** paper highlights the most significant emotional attributes that provide cost-effective and reliable information concerned with the performance of daylight in IVR before design *** study compares and analyzes the effect of three skylight designs(Cases A,B&C)on the users'perception before design implementation using(IVR)***-eight participants have contributed to the study,providing their feedback on six attributes namely:Pleasant,Contrasting,Brightness,Uniform Distribution,Visual Comfort,and *** attributes are evaluated for the three cases in space using five scale rating values to reveal that the"Pleasant"attribute is most reliable in the study to reflect th

Ensemble machine learning framework for daylight modelling of various building layouts

The application of machine learning(ML)modelling in daylight prediction has been a promising approach for reliable and effective visual comfort *** many advancements have been made,no standardized ML modelling framework exists in daylight *** this study,625 different building layouts were generated to model useful daylight illuminance(UDI).Two state-of-the-art ML algorithms,eXtreme Gradient Boosting(XGBoost)and random forest(RF),were employed to analyze UDI in four categories:UDI-f(fell short),UDI-s(supplementary),UDI-a(autonomous),and UDI-e(exceeded).A feature(internal finish)was introduced to the framework to better reflect real-world *** results show that XGBoost models predict UDI with a maximum accuracy of R^(2)=*** to RF,the XGBoost ML models can significantly reduce prediction *** research directions have been specified to advance the proposed framework by introducing new features and exploring new ML architectures to standardize ML applications in daylight prediction.

A Comparative Analysis on Surgical Outcomes and Complications of Endoscopic and Open Vein Harvesting Techniques

Objective: The great saphenous vein (GSV) is commonly used as a conduit for grafting during CABG surgery, and open GSV harvesting (OVH), commonly used with long incision to expose the vein. However, endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH) is an alternative approach, utilizing specialized instruments and small incisions to harvest the vein. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on a cohort of patients who underwent Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) requiring great saphenous vein (GSV) harvesting which was done by EVH or OVH procedures. Demographic variables, including age and gender, were assessed for both groups. Intraoperative variables such as the number of grafts, cardiopulmonary bypass time, X clamp time, and type of procedure were analyzed. Postoperative variables, including infection and bleeding rates, were also evaluated. Results: The study included 30 patients each undergoing Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) with need of great saphenous vein harvesting which was done by EVH and OVH. Demographic variables were well-matched between the two groups in terms of age, while a significant difference in gender distribution was observed. Obesity and smoking were more prevalent in the OVH group, and EVH was associated with a higher mean number of grafts compared to OVH. Conversion to an open technique occurred in a portion of the EVH cases, and infection rates did not significantly differ between the EVH and OVH groups. However, the incidence of postoperative bleeding was significantly higher in the EVH group. Conclusion: This study provides valuable insights into the demographic, intraoperative, and postoperative variables associated with EVH and OVH techniques. EVH demonstrated advantages in terms of reduced infection rates compared to OVH. However, the higher incidence of postoperative bleeding associated with EVH raises concerns about potential risks.

Metal,as the indispensable material,is functioning the society from technology to the ***(Nb)is considered a unique earth metal as it is related to many emerging *** increasing economic growth exerts an increasing pressure on supply,which leads to its significance in the economic ***,few papers have addressed Nb sustainability,which forms the scope of this paper in order to start the process of Nb market forecasting based on some previous data and some ***,this paper will discuss different thoughts in material substitution and the substance flow of Nb throughout a static flow using Nb global data to have a better understanding of the process of Nb from production to end of *** shall lead to the identification of the market needs to determine its growth which is around 2.5% to 3.0%.Moreover,due to China’s huge Nb consumption which comes from the continuous development that is happening over the years,it will also briefly mention the Nb situation as well as its growth which according to statistics will grow steadily till 2030 by a rate of 4.0% to 6.0%.The results show that there should be some enhancement to Nb recycling potentials out of steel *** addition,there should be more involvement of Nb in different industries as this would lead to less-used materials which can be translated to less environmental impact.

A machine vision-intelligent modelling based technique for in-line bell pepper sorting

The uniformity of appearance attributes of bell peppers is significant for consumers and food *** automate the sorting process of bell peppers and improve the packaging quality of this crop by detecting and separating the not likable low-color bell peppers,developing an appropriate sorting system would be of high importance and *** to standards and export needs,the bell pepper should be graded based on maturity levels and size to five *** research has been aimed to develop a machine vision-based system equipped with an intelligent modelling approach for in-line sorting bell peppers into desirable and undesirable samples,with the ability to predict the maturity level and the size of the desirable bell *** perceptron(MLP)artificial neural networks(ANNs)as the nonlinear modelswere designed for that *** modelswere trained and evaluated through five-fold cross-validation *** optimum MLP classifier was compared with a linear discriminant analysis(LDA)*** results showed that the MLP outperforms the LDA *** processing time to classify each captured image was estimated as 0.2 s/sample,which is fast enough for in-line ***,the optimum MLP model was integrated with a machine vision-based sorting machine,and the developed system was evaluated in the in-line *** performance parameters,including accuracy,precision,sensitivity,and specificity,were 93.2%,86.4%,84%,and 95.7%,*** total sorting rate of the bell pepper was also measured as approximately 3000 samples/h.

Visual Lip-Reading for Quranic Arabic Alphabets and Words Using Deep Learning

The continuing advances in deep learning have paved the way for several challenging *** such idea is visual lip-reading,which has recently drawn many research ***-reading,often referred to as visual speech recognition,is the ability to understand and predict spoken speech based solely on lip movements without using *** to the lack of research studies on visual speech recognition for the Arabic language in general,and its absence in the Quranic research,this research aims to fill this *** paper introduces a new publicly available Arabic lip-reading dataset containing 10490 videos captured from multiple viewpoints and comprising data samples at the letter level(i.e.,single letters(single alphabets)and Quranic disjoined letters)and in the word level based on the content and context of the book Al-Qaida *** research uses visual speech recognition to recognize spoken Arabic letters(Arabic alphabets),Quranic disjoined letters,and Quranic words,mainly phonetic as they are recited in the Holy Quran according to Quranic study aid entitled Al-Qaida *** study could further validate the correctness of pronunciation and,subsequently,assist people in correctly reciting ***,a detailed description of the created dataset and its construction methodology is *** new dataset is used to train an effective pre-trained deep learning CNN model throughout transfer learning for lip-reading,achieving the accuracies of 83.3%,80.5%,and 77.5%on words,disjoined letters,and single letters,respectively,where an extended analysis of the results is ***,the experimental outcomes,different research aspects,and dataset collection consistency and challenges are discussed and concluded with several new promising trends for future work.

Shared Cache Based on Content Addressable Memory in a Multi-Core Architecture

Modern shared-memory multi-core processors typically have shared Level 2(L2)or Level 3(L3)*** bottlenecks and replacement strategies are the main problems of such architectures,where multiple cores try to access the shared cache *** main problem in improving memory performance is the shared cache architecture and cache *** paper documents the implementation of a Dual-Port Content Addressable Memory(DPCAM)and a modified Near-Far Access Replacement Algorithm(NFRA),which was previously proposed as a shared L2 cache layer in a multi-core *** Performance Evaluation Corporation(SPEC)Central Processing Unit(CPU)2006 benchmark workloads are used to evaluate the benefit of the shared L2 cache *** show improved performance of the multicore processor’s DPCAM and NFRA algorithms,corresponding to a higher number of concurrent accesses to shared *** new architecture significantly increases system throughput and records performance improvements of up to 8.7%on various types of SPEC 2006 *** miss rate is also improved by about 13%,with some exceptions in the sphinx3 and bzip2 *** results could open a new window for solving the long-standing problems with shared cache in multi-core processors.

Low Complexity Encoder with Multilabel Classification and Image Captioning Model

Due to the advanced development in the multimedia-on-demandtraffic in different forms of audio, video, and images, has extremely movedon the vision of the Internet of Things (IoT) from scalar to Internet ofMultimedia Things (IoMT). Since Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) generates a massive quantity of the multimedia data, it becomes a part of IoMT,which are commonly employed in diverse application areas, especially forcapturing remote sensing (RS) images. At the same time, the interpretationof the captured RS image also plays a crucial issue, which can be addressedby the multi-label classification and Computational Linguistics based imagecaptioning techniques. To achieve this, this paper presents an efficient lowcomplexity encoding technique with multi-label classification and image captioning for UAV based RS images. The presented model primarily involves thelow complexity encoder using the Neighborhood Correlation Sequence (NCS)with a burrows wheeler transform (BWT) technique called LCE-BWT forencoding the RS images captured by the UAV. The application of NCS greatlyreduces the computation complexity and requires fewer resources for imagetransmission. Secondly, deep learning (DL) based shallow convolutional neural network for RS image classification (SCNN-RSIC) technique is presentedto determine the multiple class labels of the RS image, shows the novelty ofthe work. Finally, the Computational Linguistics based Bidirectional EncoderRepresentations from Transformers (BERT) technique is applied for imagecaptioning, to provide a proficient textual description of the RS image. Theperformance of the presented technique is tested using the UCM dataset. Thesimulation outcome implied that the presented model has obtained effectivecompression performance, reconstructed image quality, classification results,and image captioning outcome.
