Leveraging Sharding-Based Hybrid Consensus for Blockchain

The advent of blockchain technology has transformed traditional methods of information exchange,shifting reliance from centralized data centers to decentralized *** blockchain’s decentralization and security are strengths,traditional consensus mechanisms like Proof of Work(PoW)and Proof of Stake(PoS)face limitations in *** achieves decentralization and security but struggles with scalability as transaction volumes grow,while PoS enhances scalability,but risks centralization due to monopolization by high-stake ***,a recent advancement in blockchain technology,addresses scalability by partitioning the network into shards that process transactions independently,thereby improving throughput and reducing ***,cross-shard communication,essential for transactions involving multiple shards,introduces challenges in coordination and fault *** research introduces a shard-based hybrid consensus model,PoSW,which combines PoW and PoS to mitigate the limitations of both *** integrating PoW’s fairness with PoS’s scalability in a shard-based blockchain,the proposed model addresses key issues of scalability and *** evaluate the model against state-of-the-art consensus algorithms,including Monoxide and Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance(PBFT).The results show that the proposed PoSW model reduces communication overhead compared to PBFT and improves resource utilization over *** addition to performance gains,the security analysis demonstrates that the PoSW model provides robust defense against common blockchain attacks such as the 51%and Sybil attacks,*** proposed approach is particularly suited for applications like decentralized finance(DeFi)and supply chain management,which require both high scalability and robust *** contributions of this research include the development of the PoSW hybrid consensus mechanism,its comparative evaluation with leading algorithms,and a thorough

An Asset-Based Approach to Mitigate Zero-Day Ransomware Attacks

This article presents an asset-based security system where security practitioners build their systems based on information they own and not solicited by observing attackers’*** security solutions rely on information coming from *** are current monitoring and detection security solutions such as intrusion prevention/detection systems and *** article envisions creating an imbalance between attackers and defenders in favor of *** such,we are proposing to flip the security game such that it will be led by defenders and not *** are proposing a security system that does not observe the behavior of the *** the contrary,we draw,plan,and follow up our own protection strategy regardless of the attack *** objective of our security system is to protect assets rather than protect against *** machine introspection is used to intercept,inspect,and analyze system *** system callbased approach is utilized to detect zero-day ransomware *** core idea is to take advantage of Xen and DRAKVUF for system call interception,and leverage system calls to detect illegal operations towards identified critical *** utilize our vision by proposing an asset-based approach to mitigate zero-day ransomware *** obtained results are promising and indicate that our prototype will achieve its goals.

Financial viability and conservation role of betel leaf based agroforestry:an indigenous hill farming system of Khasia community in Bangladesh

A study was conducted to investigate the cultural and financial management techniques of betel leaf based agroforestry system practiced in or near homegardens of Khasia community in Jaintapur Upazila in the district of Sylhet, *** Khasia is an educated community where 100% of Khasia people were literate, a stunning fact for this ethnic community in *** average family size in the study area was 7.68, with a ration of male and females of 141:*** homegardens of the Khasia are rich in species composi-tion, which 15 timber species, 22 horticultural species, six medicinal species, 13 annual crops including leafy vegetables, seven species of spices and five species of bamboo were identified along with betel *** Khasia is an economically prosperous community with the minimum family incomes of Tk 4 000 per month(Tk.70=1 US Dollar).Betel leaf based agroforestry is very common being a prevalent source of *** 95.45% of the households are involved in betel leaf *** mean annual income from one hectare of betel leaf plantation was estimated to be *** practice was proven to be a profitable business where the benefit cost ratio was calculated to be ***, the species composition in the betel leaf plantation area(the forest area once utilized by Khasia for shifting cultivation) was found to be very promising to play the significant role in conservation of biological diversity making the practice a sus-tainable agroforestry system.

Multi-hazard susceptibility prediction is an important component of disasters risk management *** effective multi-hazard risk mitigation strategy includes assessing individual hazards as well as their ***,with the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology,multi-hazard susceptibility prediction techniques based on machine learning has encountered a huge *** order to effectively solve this problem,this study proposes a multi-hazard susceptibility mapping framework using the classical deep learning algorithm of Convolutional Neural Networks(CNN).First,we use historical flash flood,debris flow and landslide locations based on Google Earth images,extensive field surveys,topography,hydrology,and environmental data sets to train and validate the proposed CNN ***,the proposed CNN method is assessed in comparison to conventional logistic regression and k-nearest neighbor methods using several objective criteria,i.e.,coefficient of determination,overall accuracy,mean absolute error and the root mean square *** results show that the CNN method outperforms the conventional machine learning algorithms in predicting probability of flash floods,debris flows and ***,the susceptibility maps of the three hazards based on CNN are combined to create a multi-hazard susceptibility *** can be observed from the map that 62.43%of the study area are prone to hazards,while 37.57%of the study area are *** hazard-prone areas,16.14%,4.94%and 30.66%of the study area are susceptible to flash floods,debris flows and landslides,*** terms of concurrent hazards,0.28%,7.11%and 3.13%of the study area are susceptible to the joint occurrence of flash floods and debris flow,debris flow and landslides,and flash floods and landslides,respectively,whereas,0.18%of the study area is subject to all the three *** results of this study can benefit engineers,disaster managers and local government offici

Flood assessment and early warning of the reoccurrence of river blockage at the Baige landslide

On 10th *** 3rd Nov.2018,two successive landslides occurred in the Jinsha River catchment at Baige Village,Tibet Autonomous Region,*** landslides blocked the major river and formed the barrier lake,which finally caused the huge flood disaster *** hillslope at Baige landslide site has been still deforming after the 2018 slidings,which is likely to fail and block the Jinsha River again in the *** the investigation of 2018 flood disaster at the Baige landslide is of a great significance to provide a classic case for flood assessment and early warning for the future *** detailed survey revealed that the outstanding inundations induced bank collapse disasters upstream the Baige landslide dams,and the field investigations and hydrological simulation suggested that the downstream of the Baige landslide were seriously flooded due to the two periods of the outburst *** these bases,the early warning process of potential outburst floods at the Baige landslide was advised,which contains four stages:Outburst Flood Simulating Stage,Outburst Flood Forecasting Stage,Emergency Plan and Emergency Evacuation *** study offers a conceptual model for the mitigation of landslides and flood disasters in the high-relief mountain-ous region in Tibet.

The effects of teak monoculture on forest soils: a case study in Bangladesh

Teak plantations date back to 1871 in Bangladesh. This study was designed to assess how teak monoculture has impacted the soil properties in Bangladesh. Multiple linear regression and correlation matrices were estimated to evaluate these impacts. The means of soil physicochemical properties were compared across various attributes of the plantations. Older plantations accumulated more organic carbon in the soils than the younger plantations. Excessive removal of litter from the forest floor resulted in reduced levels of N, P, K, and other nutrients in the soils. Since bulk density was continuously decreasing deeper into the soil, the penetration of mineral nutrients into the soil was low. Furthermore, moisture content in the topsoil was significantly lower than that in the bottom layers due to the exposed and dry condition of the forest floor under teak plantations. For improving depleted teak plantation soils, teak could be planted with other tree species rather than just in monocultures. In addition, the forest floor could be enriched with leguminous herbs and shrubs to improve soil health in these plantations.

Unlike strong earthquake-triggered or heavy rainfall-triggered landslides,silent large-scale landslides(SLL)occur without signifcant triggering factors and cause unexpected signifcant disaster risks and mass *** the initiation mechanism of SLLs is crucial for risk *** this study,the mechanism of the Zhaobishan SLL was investigated,and the SLL was jointly controlled by weak-soil(fractured rock mass)and strong-water(abundant water replenishment)conditions under the impact of active tectonism and complex hydraulic *** tectonic uplift,high fault density,and historical earthquakes led to weak-soil conditions conducive to the Zhaobishan *** combined efect of unique lithology,antiform,and cultivated land contributed to the water replenishment characteristics of extensive runof confuence(3.16 times that of the landslide body)and supported long-distance groundwater replenishment,thereby forming strongwater conditions for the *** amplifed seepage amount caused the strength of the soil mass on the sliding surface to decrease to 0.4 times its initial strength,eventually triggering the Zhaobishan SLL,which occurred 4.6 days after the peak ***,the landslide deposits have accumulated on the semi-diagenetic clay rock,thereby controlling the subsequent recurring debris fows in the Lengzi *** reduce disaster risk of SLL in vulnerable mountainous regions,the water confuence area behind the main scarp of the landslides and the hysteresis characteristics between landslides and peak rainfall should be further considered,and recurring debris fows following massive landslides also should be focused.

Determinants of emergency contraceptive pill use in Bangladesh: An analysis of national survey data

Objective:To examine the determinants of emergency contraceptive pill use in ***:Data for this cross-sectional study came from 2017-2018 Bangladesh Demographic and Health *** of 906 reproductive age women who were potential candidates for using emergency contraceptive pill were analysed in this *** were analysed using univariate and multivariate *** binary logistic regression was employed as multivariate ***:Only 10.9%candidates were found to ever use emergency contraceptive *** odds of using emergency contraceptive pill for women visited by family planning field worker was significantly higher than that for those who were not visited by family planning field worker[odds ratio(OR)1.94;95%confidence interval(CI)1.19–3.17;P=0.008],while the odds of using emergency contraceptive pill for women with high socioeconomic status was higher than that for those with low socioeconomic status(OR 3.10;95%CI 1.61–5.97;P=0.001).Additionally,having some media access was linked to an increase in the odds of using emergency contraceptive pill(OR 3.01;95%CI 1.33–6.83;P=0.008).Women empowerment related factors did not show any significant effect on emergency contraceptive pill ***:The findings indicate that family planning programme has a great opportunity of playing an important role in increasing emergency contraceptive pill use in Bangladesh by increasing the knowledge and awareness of women about emergency contraceptive pill.
