A rapid, specific and economic UV spectrophotometric method has been developed using a solvent composed of water：methanol：acetonitrile （9：0.5：0.5） to determine the levofloxacin content in bulk and pharmaceutical dosage formulations. At a pre-determined 2 of 292 nm, it was proved linear in the range of 1.0 12.0 μg/mL, and exhibited good correlation coefficient （R2=0.9998） and excellent mean recovery （99.0-100.07%）. This method was successfully applied to the determination of levofloxacin content in five marketed brands from Bangladesh and the results were in good agreement with the label claims. The method was validated statistically and by recovery studies for linearity, precision, repeatability, and reproducibility. The obtained results proved that the method can be employed for the routine analysis of levofloxacin in bulks as well as in the commercial formulations.

The article presents the results of a study of changes in the parameters of the flow, velocity and pressure of air along the cotton transportation line in pneumatic transport installations and their dependence on the parameters of the pipeline. The purpose of the research is to theoretically substantiate the choice of the pipeline diameter depending on the properties of the material (cotton), the required processing capacity and pipeline throughput. In the research, an analytical method was used to study changes in the pressure of the air flow along the transportation line at different pipeline diameters. It is established that, according to the existing calculation method, the flow pressure along the transportation line is reduced to zero. At the same time, various scientists have proposed various analytical and empirical dependencies, which, in turn, give different ideas about the resistance of the inner surface of the pipes to the movement of air and material flow and do not describe the real situation, especially when transporting material from a long distance. This requires in-depth theoretical and applied research to establish real patterns of changes in flow parameters along the material (cotton) transportation line.

Objective:To ascertain analgesic,antibacterial and central nervous system(CNS)depressant activities of ethyl acetate,dichloromethane and carbon tetrachloride fractions of methanol extract of Albizia proceru(***)***:Leaves extracts of *** were tested for analgesic activity by acetic acid induced and formalin test method in *** in vitro antibacterial activity was performed by agar well diffusion *** depressant activity was evaluated by hole cross and open field ***:All the extracts at 200 mg/kg exhibited significant(P<0.01)analgesic activity in acetic acid induced and formalin tests method in *** activity of the ethyl acetate fraction was almost same like as standard drug indomelhacin in acetic acid induced *** CNS depressant activity of the extracts at 500 mg/kg was comparable to the positive control diazepam as determined by hole cross and open field test *** extracts exhibited moderate antimicrobial activity against all the tested microorganisms(Staphylococcus aureus,Bacillus cereus,Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Esherichia coli,Shigetta *** boydii)at concentration of 0.8 mg/*** measured diameter of zone of inhibition for the extracts was within the range of 7 to 12 mm which was less than the standard kanamycin(16-24 mm).Conclusions:It is concluded that all the extracts possess potential analgesic and CNS depressants *** study also showed that different fractions of methanol extract could be potential sources of new antimicrobial agents.

The authors present an analysis of the fault tolerant properties and the effects of temperature on an exclusive OR (XOR) gate and a full adder device implemented using quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA) structures. A Hubbard-type Hamiltonian and the Inter-cellular Hartree approximation have been used for modeling, and a uniform random distribution has been implemented for the simulated dot displacements within cells. We have shown characteristic features of all four possible input configurations for the XOR device. The device performance degrades significantly as the magnitude of defects and the temperature increase. Our results show that the fault-tolerant characteristics of an XOR device are highly dependent on the input configurations. The input signal that travels through the wire crossing (also called a crossover) in the central part of the device weakens the signal significantly. The presence of multiple wire crossings in the full adder design has a major impact on the functionality of the device. Even at absolute zero temperature, the effect of the dot displacement defect is very significant. We have observed that the breakdown characteristic is much more pronounced in the full adder than in any other devices under investigation.

Background: Dry eye is characterized by tear film instability, decreased tear volume and a high Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) score. Face masks have been linked to dry eye complaints in recent studies. Purpose: To evaluate the changes in tear-film status and Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) score following prolonged use of face mask. Design: Cross-sectional study. Method: Patients between 18 to 70 years using masks regularly for at least 2 hours/day for at least 5 days/week from different eye-care centres in Dhaka were included. All subjects were divided into 4 groups. Mask use lasted approximately 2 hours/day in Group 1, 4 hours/day in Group 2, 6 hours/day in Group 3 and 8 hours or more/day in Group 4. Evaluation of symptoms, tear- film stability and tear volume was done by Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) scores, Tear-film Break-Up Time (TBUT) and Schirmer-1 test. Average of right & left eye’s Tear-film Break Up time (TBUT) and Schirmer-1 value were noted. Results: Total 100 patients were enrolled (n = 100). The TBUT (p Conclusion: Patients who wore masks for prolonged time had tear film instability, reduced tear volume and higher Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) score.

Pathogenic spore-forming bacteria pose high risks to healthcare settings, as well as in the food and beverage industries. We reported recently that novel alcohol-based formulations containing plant-derived compounds, including epigallocatechin-3-gallate-palmitate (EGCG-P), a green tea polyphenol ester, provide > 99.99% inactivation of bacterial spores within 60 sec. Based on recently published data from our group and others, we hypothesize that a combination of EGCG-P and alcohol formulated with other plant-derived ingredients would achieve high sporicidal efficacy against a wide spectrum of bacterial spores and can provide novel hand hygiene methods against bacterial spores without toxicity. The objectives of the current study were to optimize two novel formulations with combinations of glycerol, citric acid, and EGCG-P to increase sporicidal activity and explore the rapid inactivation mechanisms and suitability for sporicidal products with broad-spectrum activities against aerobic and anaerobic bacterial spores. Methods included suspension testing of two formulations against spores from Bacillus cereus and Clostridium sporogenes, quantification of spore germination, and scanning electron microscopy. The results demonstrated that these novel formulations were able to reduce spore germination by >99.999% after 30 sec exposure in suspension tests, and rapidly caused physical damage to the spores. Small-scale vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) rotor is developed for use in areas lacking adequate energy infrastructure. The materials and methods of construction are selected to minimize cost as much as possible. The paper describes the design of different kinds of vertical axis wind turbine rotors having different number of blades and twist angle. The aim of the work is to study the influence of the different designs on rotational speed and power of rotor in different wind speed.
