Variable rate fertilizer application technology for nutrient management:A review

The efficient and effective application of fertilizers to crops is a major ***,constant rate or equal dose of fertilizer is applied to each *** rate fertilizer application across entire field can result in over or under incorporation of *** application is influenced by soil parameters as well as geographical variation in the *** nutrient management depends on selection of nutrient,application rate and placement of nutrient at the optimal distance from the crop and soil *** rate technology(VrT)is an input application technology that allows for the application of inputs at a certain rate,time,and place based on soil properties and spatial variation in the field or *** are two approaches for implementing VrT,one is sensor based and another is map *** sensor based approach;with suitable sensors,measures the soil and crop characteristics on-the-go calculating the amount of nutrients required per unit area/plant and micro controlling unit which uses suitable algorithms for controlling the flow of fertilizer with required amount of *** map based approach;Grid sampling and soil analysis are used to create a prescription *** to the soil and crop conditions,the microcontroller regulates the desired application *** sensor-based VrT system includes a fertilizer tank,sensors,GPS,microcontroller,actuators,and other components,whereas the map-based system does not require an on-the-go *** approaches of VrT for fertilizer application in orchards and field crops are reviewed in this *** use of this advance technology surely increases the fertilizer use efficiency;improve crop yield and profitability with reduced environment impacts.

Laboratory investigation of compaction characteristics of fresh and degraded municipal solid waste

com-pacted MSW increases the placement efficiency and thus reduces the space requirement for *** composition of MSW,degradation,and compactive efforts are the key factors that control the compaction characteristics of *** paper presents the laboratory investigation of compaction characteristics of fresh and aged MSW at a wide range of compactive *** MSW(S_(1)),Windrows sample(S_(2))of an age of 2 months,5-year-old MSW(S_(3)),10-year-old MSW(S_(4)),and 15-year-old MSW(S_(5))were collected from the working phase of the solid waste management site,Vilholi Nasik,(MH)*** was carried in 1000 mL capacity mold under four different energy levels,i.e.,552(E_(1)),1125(E_(2)),2682(E_(3)),and 5364(E4)kJ/m^(3).The results showed that the maximum dry density(γ_(dmax))was observed less in the S_(1)sample at the standard compactive *** the age of the sample increase from fresh to 5 years,γ_(dmax)was more with lesser optimum moisture content(w_(opt))because of the completion of the biodegradation *** further change in compaction characteristics was observed once the biodegradation process was *** study shows that the particle size of MSW gets reduced as the age of the sample *** reduces the particle size of MSW is one of the contributing factors to increasingγ_(dmax).When compactive energy is changed from E_(1)to E4 theγ_(dmax)increased and w_(opt)decreased for all the samples.A normalized w_(opt)and compaction energy correlation is proposed in this *** correlation can get compaction characteristics of fresh and aged MSW at any compactive effort.

High-Pressure Nitrides and Microdiamonds from Tibetan Ophiolite

The samples of microdiamond as an inclusion of Os Ir alloy, coesite, stishovite, high pressure form of Tio2, high pressure nitrides associated with SiC along with boron carbide, have been reported in the past from the placer deposits of Luobasa ophiolite of Yarlung Zangbo region of Tibet. For the formation of these ultra high findings, pressure in the range of 4 to 9 Gpa and temperature in the range of 700° C - 1300° C is required. Thus these minerals can either be incorporated into the chromitite in the deep upper mantle or they have an impact origin. In absence of impact crater, Prof. Fang and others have favored the mantle origin but for the formation of nitrides in the deep mantle, the source of N is not clear. However, the event of comet impact provides better explanation for the formation process. It also simplifies the explanation of coexistence of most of these minerals in a single crystal with the shallow origin and the perfect preservation of the coesite as consequence of rapid cooling after the shock metamorphism.

Single-use flexible ureteroscopes: Comparative in vitro analysis of four scopes

Variability in pod and seed traits of Pongamia pinnata Pierre ecotypes in North Karnataka, India

An evaluation of 30 naturally available candidate-plus trees（CPTs） of Pongamia pinnata was carried out to elucidate the genetic variability and relationship of pod and seed traits and progeny growth traits to select the best planting material with higher productivity. Significant variations were observed in pod and seed characteristics,oil content, and during the progeny trial studies. The highest values were found in 100-pod weight（410.4 gm）and 100-seed weight（195.92 gm） and the phenotypic and genotypic variance was found maximum in 100 pod weight（4364.71 and 4289.93） and 100 seed weight（813.8 and768.93）, respectively. Estimates of the phenotypic coefficient of variance were higher than the genotypic coefficient of variance for all the pod and seed traits and progeny growth traits, which depict the predominant role of the environment. Approximately 99 % of broad-sense heritability was revealed in oil content, followed by 100-pod weight（98.28 %）, and canopy growth（96.93 %）. Pod thickness shows the highest genetic advance of 56.61 %,followed by pod width（53.43 %） and canopy growth（49.3 %）. Pod and seed traits have proven a positive correlation between each other and with progeny growth traits,except a few negative values. Hierarchical clustering by Ward＇s minimum variance cluster analysis showed phylogeographical patterns of genetic diversity. K-means clustering revealed that trees from different geographical regions were grouped together in a cluster where as trees from the same geographical area are placed in a different cluster. Seven Pongamia ecotypes（GrP-8, 9, 13, 14, 18,28, and 29） are found superior in traits, namely 100-pod weight, 100-seed weight, oil content, germination rate,plant height, canopy growth, and collar diameter. The traits100-pod weight and 100-seed weight are highly correlated with the progeny growth traits and even have higher heritability and genetic advantages.

Lattice thermal conductivity(LTC)of cadmium arsenide(Cd_(3)As_(2))is studied over a wide temperature range(1–400 K)by employing the Callaway *** acoustic phonons are considered to be the major carriers of heat and to be scattered by the sample boundaries,disorder,impurities,and other phonons via both Umklapp and normal phonon *** calculations of LTC of Cd_(3)As_(2)bring out the relative importance of the scattering *** systematic analysis of recent experimental data on thermal conductivity(TC)of Cd_(3)As_(2)samples of different groups,presented in terms of LTC,κL,using a nonlinear regression method,reveals good fits to the TC data of the samples considered for Tr the Gruneisen *** is,however,found that for T>100 K the inclusion of the electronic component of TC,κe,incorporating contributions from relevant electron scattering mechanisms,is needed to obtain good agreement with the TC data over the wide temperature *** detailed investigations of TC of Cd_(3)As_(2)are required to better understand its suitability in thermoelectric and thermal management devices.

Analyzing variations in spatial critical gaps at two-way stop controlled intersections using parametric and non-parametric techniques

At two-way stop controlled(TWSC)intersections drivers on minor stream are generally at risk because of the difficulty in judging safe gap between major stream *** misjudgment by the driver while choosing gap may result in a collision with major stream *** paper provides important insights for determining and analyzing spatial critical gaps of drivers at high speed and medium speed TWSC *** critical gap line(CGL)fitted for the accepted and rejected gaps using parametric(binary logit model-BLM)and non-parametric(support vector machines-SVM)techniques gives critical gap values at 15 th,50 th and 85 th percentile *** evaluation of spatial critical gap with respect to major road vehicle(conflicting vehicle)speed makes it easier to understand the impact of variation in speed on spatial gaps accepted by the drivers on the minor *** logit models developed revealed that the probability of accepting gap decreases with increase in the speed of the conflicting vehicle and it increases with increase in the distance of conflicting *** spatial critical gaps estimated using support vector machines were found in close approximation with those estimated using binary logit *** study results showed that SVMs have very good potential to be an alternative tool for the estimation of driver's critical *** spatial critical gaps corresponding to 15 th,50 th and 85 th percentile speeds for medium speed intersections were 32 m,38 m and 46 m respectively and for high speed intersections these values were 64 m,76 m and 104 m *** increase in the magnitude of gap value with respect to the percentile speed clearly states the effect of speed on spatial *** insights from the study can be used to suggest various measures to improve the safety of crossing drivers at uncontrolled intersections.
