AIM： To investigate the association between cytokine gene polymorphism and disease status in chronic hepatitis C genotype 3 by liver biopsy, ALl, HCV RNA levels and response to treatment. METHODS： Patients with chronic hepatitis C genotype 3 were analyzed for single nucleotide polymorphisms of interleukin （IL）-10, IL-1 beta, interferon-gamma （IFN-y）, tumor necrosis factor-alpha （TNF-y） and transforming growth factor-beta （TGF-β） by polymerase chain reaction using sequence-specific oligonucleotide primers. Liver biopsies were assessed by modified histological activity index （HAI） scoring system using a scale of 0-18 for grading the necro-inflammatory activity and 0-6 for staging the fibrosis. HCV RNA levels were determined by bDNA assay. The patients were treated with interferon alpha and ribavirin for 6 mo. Sustained virological response was assessed 6 mo after the completion of the treatment. RESULTS： Out of the 40 patients analyzed, 26 were males. Mean age was 40.5±12.5 years （range 18- 65 years）. The frequencies of different dimorphic polymorphisms based on single nucleotide substitution were as follows： IL-10-1082 G/A 85%, A/A 12.5%, G/ G 2.5%; IL-10-819 A/C 87.5%, C/C 10%, A/A 2.5%; IL-10-592 C/A 72.5%, C/C 27.5%; IL-1 C 90%, U 10%; IFN-874 T/A 50%, T/T 27.5%, A/A 22.5%; TNF-308 A/G 95%, G/G 5%; TGF-10 T/C 52.5%, C/C 35%, T/T 12.5%. The mean grades of necroinflammatory activity of different genotypes of IL-10 at promoter site -1082 were A/A = 3.6, A/G = 5.0, and G/G = 10.0 and the difference was significant （P = 0.029）. The difference in the stage of disease at a scale of 0-6 was A/A 0.8, A/G 2.3, and G/G 4.0 （P = 0.079）. The difference in the HAI seemed to be related to the presence of allele -*** IL-10 -819 genotypes, mean scores of fibrosis were A/A = 6.0, A/C = 2.2, and C/C = 1.0 （P = 0.020） though the inflammatory activity was not much different. The ground wire is significantly interfered by the current above 1μA in the industrial field during the traditional polarisation and depolarisation current(PDC)*** paper explains a method to test PDC from high-voltage wire using a principle of equipotential picoammeter,which is completely isolated from the ground wire and connected in series with the high voltage *** this method,a device is designed with a multi-range automatic switching *** device can automatically switch the test range current from 1 pA to 10 mA with a resolution of 1 *** demonstrate the device and effectiveness of this new method,the traditional and the proposed new device are used to test the PDC of cable samples in the laboratory as well as in an industrial *** is worth noting that there is almost no interference on the Earth wire in the laboratory environment but massive interference in the industrial environment using a traditional method of PDC measurement from ground or Earth *** new method of high-voltage testing can efficiently eliminate the interference and accurately measure PDC in a strong industrial interference ***,the wiring of this new method and device is relatively simple,which is convenient for industrial applications.

The current study focuses on the numerical investigation of the mixed convective peristaltic mechanism through a vertical tube for non-zero Reynolds and wave number. In the set of constitutional equations, energy equation contains the term representing heat generation parameter. The problem is formulated by dropping the assumption of lubrication theory that turns the model mathematically into a system of the nonlinear partial differential equations. The results of the long wavelength in a creeping flow are deduced from the present analysis. Thus, the current study explores the neglected features of peristaltic heat flow in the mixed convective model by considering moderate values of Reynolds and wave numbers. The finite element based on Galerkin's weighted residual scheme is applied to solve the governing equations. The computed solution is presented in the form of contours of streamlines and isothermal lines, velocity and temperature profiles for variation of different involved parameters. The investigation shows that the strength of circulation for stream function increases by increasing the wave number and Reynolds number. Symmetric isotherms are reported for small values of time-mean flow. Linear behavior of pressure is noticed by vanishing inertial forces while the increase in pressure is observed by amplifying the Reynolds number.

Analysis and Characterization of Pore System and Grain Sizes of Carbonate Rocks from Southern Lebanon

Carbonate rocks are common in many parts of the world, including the Eastern Mediterranean, where they host significant groundwater supplies and are widely used as building and ornamental stones. The porosity of carbonate rocks plays a critical role in fluid storage and retrieval. The pore structure connectivity, in particular, controls many properties of geological formations, as well as the relationships between the properties of individual minerals and the bulk properties of the rock. To study the relationships between porosity, rock properties, pore structure, pore size, and their impact on reservoir characteristics, 46 carbonate rock samples were collected from four stratigraphic sections exposed near Sidon, South Lebanon. The studied carbonate rocks are related to marine deposits of different ages(e.g., Upper Cretaceous, Eocene, and Upper Miocene). In order to understand the pore connectivity, the MICP(mercury injection capillary pressure) technique was conducted on ten representative samples. Results from the SEM analysis indicate the dominance of very fine and fine pore sizes, with various categories ranging in diameter from 0.1 to10 μm. The MICP data revealed that the pore throat radii vary widely from 0.001 to 1.4 μm, and that all samples are dominated by micropore throats. The grain size analysis indicated that the studied rocks have significant amounts of silt-and clay-size grains with respect to the coarser ‘sand-size’ particles, suggesting a high proportion of microporosity. Obtained results, such as the poorly-sorted nature of grains, high microporosity, and the high percentage of micropore throats, justify the observed low mean hydraulic radius, the high entry pressure, and the very low permeability of the studied samples. These results suggest that the carbonate rocks near Sidon(south of Lebanon) are possibly classified as non-reservoir facies.

Optimization of the mechanical performance and damage failure characteristics of laminated composites based on fiber orientation

In this study,the effect of fiber angle on the tensile load-bearing performance and damage failure characteristics of glass composite laminates was investigated experimentally,analytically,and *** glass fabric in the laminate was perfectly aligned along the load direction(i.e.,at 0°),offset at angles of 30°and 45°,or mixed in different directions(i.e.,0°/30°or 0°/45°).The composite laminates were fabricated using vacuum-assisted resin *** influence of fiber orientation angle on the mechanical properties and stiffness degradation of the laminates was studied via cyclic tensile strength ***,simulations have been conducted using finite element analysis and analytical approaches to evaluate the influence of fiber orientation on the mechanical performance of glass *** testing revealed that,although the composite laminates laid along the 0°direction exhibited the highest stiffness and strength,their structural performance deteriorated *** also determined that increasing the fiber offset angle(i.e.,30°)could optimize the mechanical properties and damage failure characteristics of glass *** results of the numerical and analytical approaches demonstrated their ability to capture the mechanical behavior and damage failure modes of composite laminates with different fiber orientations,which may be used to prevent the catastrophic failures that occur in composite laminates.

This article presents a high speed third-order continuous-time(CT)sigma-delta analog-to-digital converter(SDADC)based on voltagecontrolled oscillator(VCO),featuring a digital programmable quantizer *** improve the overall performance,not only oversampling technique but also noise-shaping enhancing technique is used to suppress in-band *** to the intrinsic first-order noise-shaping of the VCO quantizer,the proposed third-order SDADC can realize forth-order noise-shaping *** a bright advantage,the proposed programmable VCO quantizer is digital-friendly,which can simplify the design process and improve antiinterference capability of the circuit.A 4-bit programmable VCO quantizer clocked at 2.5 GHz,which is proposed in a 40 nm complementary metaloxide semiconductor(CMOS)technology,consists of an analog VCO circuit and a digital programmable quantizer,achieving 50.7 dB signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)and 26.9 dB signal-to-noise-and-distortion ration(SNDR)for a 19 MHz−3.5 dBFS input signal in 78 MHz bandwidth(BW).The digital quantizer,which is programmed in the Verilog hardware description language(HDL),consists of two-stage D-flip-flop(DFF)based registers,XOR gates and an *** presented SDADC adopts the cascade of integrators with feed-forward summation(CIFF)structure with a third-order loop filter,operating at 2.5 GHz and showing behavioral simulation performance of 92.9 dB SNR over 78 MHz bandwidth.
