Radiation-induced in vitro mutagenesis system for salt tolerance and other agronomic characters in sugarcane(Saccharum officinarum L.)

Gamma ray-induced in vitro mutagenesis and selection for salt(NaC l) tolerance were investigated in sugarcane(Saccharum officinarum L.). Embryogenic callus cultures were irradiated(10 to 80 Gy) and subjected to in vitro selection by exposure of irradiated callus to NaC l(0, 50, 100,150, 200, and 250 mmol L-1). Increasing NaC l concentrations resulted in growth reduction and increased membrane damage. Salt-selected callus lines were characterized by the accumulation of proline, glycine betaine, and Na+and K+concentration. Higher accumulation of proline and glycine betaine was observed in NaC l stressed callus irradiated at 20 Gy. Na+concentration increased and K+concentration decreased with increasing salt level. Irradiated callus showed50–60% regeneration under NaC l stress, and in vitro-regenerated plants were acclimatized in the greenhouse, with 80–85% survival. A total of 138 irradiated and salt-selected selections were grown to maturity and their agronomic performance was evaluated under normal and saline conditions. Of these, 18 mutant clones were characterized for different agro-morphological characters and some of the mutant clones exhibited improved sugar yield with increased Brix%,number of millable canes, and yield. The result suggest that radiation-induced mutagenesis offers an effective way to enhance genetic variation in sugarcane.

Practical simulations of turbulent processes are generally cutoff, with a grid resolution that stops within the inertial range, meaning that multiple active regions and length scales occur below the grid level and are not resolved. This is the regime of large eddy simulations （LES）, in which the larger but not the smaller of the turbulent length scales are resolved. Solutions of the fluid Navier-Stokes equations, when considered in the inertial regime, are conventionally regarded as solutions of the Euler equations. In other words, the viscous and diffusive transport terms in the Navier-Stokes equations can be neglected in the inertial regime and in LES simulations, while the Euler equation becomes fundamental. For such simulations, significant new solution details emerge as the grid is refined. It follows that conventional notions of grid convergence are at risk of failure, and that a new, and weaker notion of convergence may be appropriate. It is generally understood that the LES or inertial regime is inherently fluctuating and its description must be statistical in nature. Here we develop such a point of view systematically, based on Young measures, which are measures depending on or indexed by space time points. In the Young measure du（ξ）x,t, the random variable ξ of the measure is a solution state variable, i.e., a solution dependent variable, representing momentum, density, energy and species concentrations, while the space time coordinates, x, t, serve to index the *** evidence suggests that convergence via Young measures is suifficiently weak to encompass the LES/inertial regime; numerical and theoretical evidence suggests that this notion may be required for passive scalar concentration and therm degrees of freedom. The distal interlocking is regarded as an inherent part of the antegrade humeral nailing technique. Traditionally the distal locking of intramedullary humeral nails is achieved using a freehand technique. The humerus nailing locking options in the conventional nailing systems are placed in the anterior-posterior and lateral-medial directions. It exposes both the patient and surgeon to radiation, is time consuming, and has a potential risk of damaging neurovascular structures, especially the radial and lateral cutaneous nerve when the anterior-posterior and lateral-medial locking constructs are used. We aim to present a technical tip to ease the distal locking procedure and avoid the possible neurovascular complications with the existing nailing systems.

Ophiolites along the indus Suture Zone (ISZ) are important not only for the information they provide about the India\|Eurasia collision,but may also contain economic mineral deposits (chrome,noble metals,and Ni\|sulfides).Several ophiolites occur in the ISZ,and the Nidar ophiolite is one that occurs on the eastern *** paper presents the geochemistry of ultramafic rocks from the Nidar ophiolite to understand tectonic environment and economic *** ophiolite consists of pillow lavas,radiolarian cherts,rodingites,peridotites and *** lower part of the ophiolite consists of tectonized harzburgite,hosting dunite enveloped podiform *** transition zone between upper mantle and lower oceanic crust is characterized by serpentinized dunite with disseminations of *** in Nidar have low whole\|rock values of w (TiO\-2)(0 02%～0 03%), w (Al\-2O\-3)(2%～3%), w (CaO)(0.5%), w (Zr)(40×10 -6 ),and w (Y)(30×10 -6 ),and enriched in refractory elements such as w (Cr)((3000～5000)×10 -6 )and w (Ni)((3000～4000)×10 -6 ).Thus,the Nidar peridotites are more depleted in elements partitioned into the liquid,such as Al and Ca and the moderately refractory element *** peridotites have fractionated chondrite\|normalized PGE *** geochemical characteristics suggests their formation by high degrees of partial melting in a supra\|subduction zone environment,where melting was enhanced by addition of *** Cr # of 0.82 in the chromite of the chromitites also suggests a depleted mantle source and a supra\|subduction zone environment for the host *** formed in supra\|subduction zone setting are very conducive for many metallic and non\|metallic mineral deposits.

Proximal Femoral Nail in Reverse Trochanteric Femoral Fractures: An Analysis of 53 Cases at One Year Follow-Up

Treatment of reverse oblique trochanteric femoral fractures poses a lot of challenges. There have been proponents of intramedullary devices as well as extramedullary devices. We present the results of proximal femoral nailing surgery performed for reverse obliquity intertrochanteric fractures using two proximal lag screws and a nail of 250 mm. There is prospective study of fifty three patients with AO/OTA 31 A-A3 fractures being treated by proximal femoral nailing in our institute after seeking approval from the Hospital ethics board. The quality of the reduction, the operative time, complications and the functional status of the patients were the parameters on which the results were evaluated. The mean Harris hip score was 76.66 (range 70 - 93) and the mean Barthel activity score was 16.21 (range 12 - 20). The average surgical time was 50 minutes and the mean consolidation time was 11.5 weeks. Intramedullary nailing with proximal femoral nails seems to be a good option in the treatment of reverse obliquity intertrochanteric fractures as against the various existing options available for the management.

A method was developed for rapid separation and determination of iron by employing capillary zone elec-trophoresis (CZE) technique with direct UV detection. Iron could be separated from matrix uranium by di-rect injection of dissolved sample solution into capillary using a mixture of 10 mM HCl and 65 mM KCl (pH = 2) as background electrolyte (BGE) at an applied voltage of 15 kV. The developed method has a very high tolerance for the matrix element U (100 mg/mL) and as such may not need prior separation of iron from the matrix. Iron could be separated with better than 95% recovery. The method showed a linear calibration over a concentration range 1-50 ppm of Fe. The migration times for the iron peak were reproducible within 1% for both pure Fe(III) and in presence of matrix uranium (80 mg/mL). The precision (RSD, n = 22) of peak area obtained for 1ppm of iron was 3.5%. The limit of detection (LOD) (3 ) was 0.1 ppm and the ab-solute LOD was 9 × 10-14 g considering the sample injection volume of 1.5 nL. The developed method has been validated by separating and determining iron in two certified reference materials of U3O8. The method was applied for the determination of iron in different uranium based nuclear materials. The CZE method is versatile for routine analysis as it is simple, rapid and has simple sample preparation procedure.

Getting the trajectory of the proximal femoral nail in the right direction is essential to achieve a good result in the technically demanding surgery of proximal femoral fracture. Either an inappropriate starting point or a failure to match the chosen implant’s lateral entry angle may cause coronal plane deformity after trochanteric entry nailing. The lateral view is the critical view for localization of the proper starting point. For the right execution of the surgery, getting the trajectoy right is fully under the control of the surgeon and should always be attempted.

The Ladakh batholith is exposed along the 600km long and 20 to 80km wide NW—SE trending Ladakh range north of the Indus\|Tsangpo Suture Zone. It was emplaced into an unmetamorphosed thick pile of mafic and felsic volcanics, ultramafics and sediments of Upper Cretaceous\|Eocene age (Dras Volcanics, Khardung Volcanics). The granites from the Ladakh batholith within the Leh\|Khardung La and Sakti—Chang La sections (samples collected between altitude of 3600m and 5440m above mean sea level, Fig.1) have been estimated for pressure and temperature of crystallization employing the hornblende geobarometer of Schmidt (1992) and hornblende\|plagioclase geothermometer of Blundy and Holland (1990), with the results of pressure of (250±60)MPa and temperature of (695±22)℃. Therefore, these granites were solidified at a depth of (8 6±2)km suggesting an unroofing of this thickness in this region. The importance of this geobarometric data in conjunction with age data on the cooling and unroofing history of the Trans\|Himalayan Ladakh batholith and geodynamic implications of the India—Asia collision are discussed.
