Expression levels of pro-inflammatory interleukin-8 and certain antimicrobial peptides in concurrent with bacterial conjunctivitis

AIM:To detect the quantitative expression levels of the pro-inflammatory interleukin-8(IL8),antimicrobial peptides human beta defense-2(HBD2),and human beta defense-3(HBD3)genes in bacterial ***:The human conjunctival epithelial cells were obtained using the impression cytology technique from healthy controls and *** genes expression levels were determined utilizing a reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction(RT-q PCR).The contribution of causative agent type,the number of isolates and severity of clinical features,in the increase of genes expression was also ***:The RT-q PCR showed that IL8,HBD2,and HBD3 expression increased in bacterial conjunctivitis as compared to healthy control(P<0.001).In gram-negative bacterial conjunctivitis,HBD2 was highly up-regulated(P<0.001)compared to other types of bacterial *** mixed bacterial conjunctivitis,a direct correlation between HBD2 up-regulation and HBD3 up-regulation was observed(P<0.05).The severity of clinical features was related to the up-regulation of IL8 and HBD2(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:IL8,HBD2,and HBD3 are immuneeffectors in infectious ***2 is active during different bacterial conjunctivitis but is more released with gram-negative bacteria compared to gram-positive ***3 is an obvious defender in different bacterial conjunctivitis.

Ecological risk assessment of surficial sediment by heavy metals from a submerged archaeology harbor,South Mediterranean Sea,Egypt

A protected semi-enclosed embayment,the Eastern Harbor(EH),is situated in the central sector of the Mediterranean coast of Alexandria,*** is a famous fishing dock and water-sport center and its importance arose after the discovery of the Ptolemaic royal quarter of ancient *** protect this national treasure and improve its environmental health,the untreated anthropogenic effluents,which continued for decades into the EH since 1992,must be totally ***,it is an important issue to continually monitor and asses the environmental status of the *** sediment texture,total organic carbon,and the accumulation,distribution,and ecological risks of Cd,Cr,Pb,As,Hg and A1 were determined with a total of 14 surficial sediments samples collected in the EH during *** contents were compared to the literature data to assess the pollution status of *** factors,Degree of contamination(mCd)and potential ecological risk were calculated as a criterion of possible *** mCd calculation produces an overall average value for a range of pollutants,in the present study the contamination factor that provides a measure of the degree of overall contamination in the surface layers in a particular sampling site may provide a better indication of the state of pollution in the EH sediments than other indicators.

Mercury speciation in aquatic environment south eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea,Egypt

This study aims to describe distribution and speciation of Hg in coastal water,fish and sediments from the Western harbour(main harbour)in Egypt and has been studied in two *** slightly high annual mean of total dissolved mercury TDHg value(1.81 mg/L)in the surface layer might reflect the highest average surface value(6.09 mg/L),selected at the outer part,due to the entering the water loaded by industrial pollutants from El Mex Bay to the harbour *** addition to the internal activities as petroleum Quay(petroleum basin)and in front of Noubaria Canal outfall(5.13 and 5.32 mg/L respectively).On the other hand,the increased levels of mercury in suspension(particulate form)during the study period may be due to the effects of heavy winter rain over the highly industrialized area,also the surface input of mercury and its regeneration at the sediment/water interface in the *** the present study,the total and methyl mercury in the studied fish was exceeded the regulatory limit of the European Union for mercury concentration in *** contamination of *** species was higher than that of the other studied species due to its habitat,represented by small schools in very shallow water close to the bottom sediments,and its different approach in *** present study of surface sediments reveals that,there were probably an uncomplexed strong Hg-binding site available in the sediments,the major portion of mercury found in these sediments is in organo-chelated form followed by acid reducible ***,mercury in residual fraction(mercury of natural origin)is the relatively low portion *** though the percentage of the first three fractions of mercury is relatively high,absolute values of these mobile Hg fractions are quite high due to the high total mercury values.

Rock Hyraxes Swarm Optimization: A New Nature-Inspired Metaheuristic Optimization Algorithm

This paper presents a novel metaheuristic algorithm called Rock Hyraxes Swarm Optimization(RHSO)inspired by the behavior of rock hyraxes swarms in *** RHSO algorithm mimics the collective behavior of Rock Hyraxes to find their eating and their special way of looking at this *** hyraxes live in colonies or groups where a dominant male watch over the colony carefully to ensure their safety leads the ***-eight(22 unimodal and 26 multimodal)test functions commonly used in the optimization area are used as a testing benchmark for the RHSO algorithm.A comparative efficiency analysis also checks RHSO with Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO),Artificial-Bee-Colony(ABC),Gravitational Search Algorithm(GSA),and Grey Wolf Optimization(GWO).The obtained results showed the superiority of the RHSO algorithm over the selected algorithms;also,the obtained results demonstrated the ability of the RHSO in convergence towards the global optimal through optimization as it performs well in both exploitation and exploration ***,RHSO is very effective in solving real issues with constraints and new search *** is worth mentioning that the RHSO algorithm has a few variables,and it can achieve better performance than the selected algorithms in many test functions.

Atrazine（ATZ） is a known herbicide used in agriculture and caused many concerns according to its ***,we have prepared NiCo2O4nanorods that can work as a photocatalyst under visible light exposure by Ag loading through a simple *** characterizations revealed the role of Ag for improving the structural,optical and optoelectronic properties of the produced *** Ag loading with 5 wt% confirms the minimization of the bandgap from 3.6 down to 2.57 eV with enhanced visible light absorption and sustaining the magnetic *** Ag/NiCo2O4nanorods showed a superior photodegradation of ATZ within 20 min at2.0 g L-1with excellent *** enhancement of the photocatalytic activity is referred to the local surface plasmon resonance of Ag-loaded *** reduces the electron-hole recombination and outperforms the unloaded *** work is highlighting the application of magnetically separable spinel photocatalysts for the removal of herbicides and water remediation.

Evaluation of antidiabetic activity of plants used in Western Sudan

Objective: To investigate the traditional antidiabetic uses of some indigenous Sudanese plants on streptozotocin-induced diabetes rats. Methods: Diabetic rats were treated with a 400 mg/kg dose of aqueous extracts of five plant species orally for 2 h(acute) or 14 days(chronic). In acute model blood glucose levels were monitored at specific intervals. In the chronic model blood samples were collected from overnight fasted diabetic rats on day 15 to estimate blood glucose level. And the body weight, serum lipid profile and activities of liver and kidney enzymes were measured. Histopathological observations of liver sections were also ***: In the case of acute treatment, aqueous extracts of Tinospora bakis(T. bakis), Nauclea latifolia(N. latifolia) and Randia nilotica(R. nilotica) at 400 mg/kg significantly lowered(P < 0.05) blood glucose levels in diabetic rats whereas, chronic treatment of diabetic rats with 400 mg/kg of T. bakis, N. latifolia, R. nilotica and Mitragyna inremis proved to have significant(P < 0.05) antihyperglycemic effect and have the capacity to correct the metabolic disturbances associated with diabetes. Histopathological studies showed that the aqueous extracts of these four plants reinforced the healing of liver. However, Striga hermonthica aqueous extract did not exert any antihyperglycemic effect to diabetic rats. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that T. bakis, N. latifolia, R. nilotica and Mitragyna inremis have therapeutic value in diabetes and related complications and thus supporting the traditional uses of these plants in Sudanese traditional medicine.

Suppression of NLRP3 inflammasome by ivermectin ameliorates bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis

Ivermectin is a US Food and Drug Administration(FDA)-approved antiparasitic agent with antiviral and anti-inflammatory *** recent studies reported the possible anti-inflammatory activity of ivermectin in respiratory injuries,its potential therapeutic effect on pulmonary fibrosis(PF)has not been *** study aimed to explore the ability of ivermectin(0.6 mg/kg)to alleviate bleomycin-induced biochemical derangements and histological changes in an experimental PF rat *** can provide the means to validate the clinical utility of ivermectin as a treatment option for idiopathic *** results showed that ivermectin mitigated the bleomycin-evoked pulmonary injury,as manifested by the reduced infiltration of inflammatory cells,as well as decreased the inflammation and fibrosis ***,ivermectin decreased collagen fiber deposition and suppressed transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1)and fibronectin protein expression,highlighting its anti-fibrotic *** study revealed for the first time that ivermectin can suppress the nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain(NOD)-like receptor family pyrin domain-containing protein 3(NLRP3)inflammasome,as manifested by the reduced gene expression of NLRP3 and the apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a caspase recruitment domain(ASC),with a subsequent decline in the interleukin-1β(IL-1β)*** addition,ivermectin inhibited the expression of intracellular nuclear factor-κB(NF-κB)and hypoxia‑inducible factor‑1α(HIF-1α)proteins along with lowering the oxidative stress and apoptotic ***,this study revealed that ivermectin could ameliorate pulmonary inflammation and fibrosis induced by *** beneficial effects were mediated,at least partly,via the downregulation of TGF-β1 and fibronectin,as well as the suppression of NLRP3 inflammasome through modulating the expression of HIF‑1αand NF-κB.

Today,due to the pandemic of COVID-19 the entire world is facing a serious health *** to the World Health Organization(WHO),people in public places should wear a face mask to control the rapid transmission of *** governmental bodies of different countries imposed that wearing a face mask is compulsory in public ***,it is very difficult to manually monitor people in overcrowded *** research focuses on providing a solution to enforce one of the important preventative measures of COVID-19 in public places,by presenting an automated system that automatically localizes masked and unmasked human faces within an image or video of an area which assist in this outbreak of *** paper demonstrates a transfer learning approach with the Faster-RCNN model to detect faces that are masked or *** proposed framework is built by fine-tuning the state-of-the-art deep learning model,Faster-RCNN,and has been validated on a publicly available dataset named Face Mask Dataset(FMD)and achieving the highest average precision(AP)of 81%and highest average Recall(AR)of 84%.This shows the strong robustness and capabilities of the Faster-RCNN model to detect individuals with masked and un-masked ***,this work applies to real-time and can be implemented in any public service area.

Education acts as an important part of economic growth and improvement in human *** educational sectors have transformed a lot in recent days,and Information and Communication Technology(ICT)is an effective part of the education *** every action in university and college,right from the process fromcounselling to admissions and fee deposits has been *** records,quiz,evaluation,mark,and grade submissions involved the utilization of the ***,security is essential to accomplish cybersecurity in higher security institutions(HEIs).In this view,this study develops an Automated Outlier Detection for CyberSecurity in Higher Education Institutions(AOD-CSHEI)*** AOD-CSHEI technique intends to determine the presence of intrusions or attacks in the *** AOD-CSHEI technique initially performs data pre-processing in two stages namely data conversion and class *** addition,the Adaptive Synthetic(ADASYN)technique is exploited for the removal of outliers in the ***,the sparrow search algorithm(SSA)with deep neural network(DNN)model is used for the classification of data into the existence or absence of intrusions in the HEIs ***,the SSA is utilized to effectually adjust the hyper parameters of the DNN *** order to showcase the enhanced performance of the AOD-CSHEI technique,a set of simulations take place on three benchmark datasets and the results reported the enhanced efficiency of the AOD-CSHEI technique over its compared methods with higher accuracy of 0.9997.

Protective role of Juniperus phoenicea and Cupressus sempervirens against CCl_4

AIM: To investigate the role of Cupressus sempervirens (C. sempervirens) and Juniperus phoenicea (J. phoe-nicea) extracts as therapeutic effect against CCl4 with biochemical, histopathological evaluations. METHODS: A single intraperitoneal dose of 10% CCl4 in olive oil (1 mL/kg body weight) was administered to a group of female Wister rats, sacrificed after 24 h (as the injury group). The other groups were given CCl4 as de-scribed above and divided as follows: two groups of ten rats each were orally administered either J. phoenicea extract or C. sempervirens extract three times per week for six weeks and a further group administered CCl4 was left for six weeks to allow self-recovery. At the end of experiment, the rats from all groups were sacrificed for sampling and for biochemical and histological analysis. RESULTS: Remarkable disturbances were observed in the levels of all tested parameters. On the other hand,rats injected with the toxic agent and left for one and a half month to self recover showed moderate improve-ments in the studied parameters while, treatment with both medicinal herbal extracts ameliorated the levels of the disturbed biochemical parameters. The group treated with J. phoenicea extract showed a remarkable improvement in comparison to the CCl4 treated group. The C. sempervirens group revealing an even more re-markable effect showing histopathological liver& kidney profiles close to those of the control ***: C. sempervirens and J. phoenicea leaf extracts show a remarkable effect in enhancing liver and kidney functions and may thus be of therapeutic potential in treatment hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity.
