Empirical Bayesian Approach to Testing Homogeneity of Several means of Inflated Poisson Distributions (IPD)

Objectives: We introduce a special form of the Generalized Poisson Distribution. The distribution has one parameter, yet it has a variance that is larger than the mean a phenomenon known as “over dispersion”. We discuss potential applications of the distribution as a model of counts, and under the assumption of independence we will perform statistical inference on the ratio of two means, with generalization to testing the homogeneity of several means. methods: Bayesian methods depend on the choice of the prior distributions of the population parameters. In this paper, we describe a Bayesian approach for estimation and inference on the parameters of several independent Inflated Poisson (IPD) distributions with two possible priors, the first is the reciprocal of the square root of the Poisson parameter and the other is a conjugate Gamma prior. The parameters of Gamma distribution are estimated in the empirical Bayesian framework using the maximum likelihood (mL) solution using nonlinear mixed model (NLmIXED) in SAS. With these priors we construct the highest posterior confidence intervals on the ratio of two IPD parameters and test the homogeneity of several populations. Results: We encountered convergence problem in estimating the hyperparameters of the posterior distribution using the NLmIXED. However, direct maximization of the predictive density produced solutions to the maximum likelihood equations. We apply the methodologies to RNA-SEQ read count data of gene expression values.

The exp<span style="font-family:Symbol;font-size:11pt;">(-j(x))</span>method and Its Applications for Solving Some Nonlinear Evolution Equations in mathematical Physics

The ?exp(-j(x))?method is employed to find the exact traveling wave solutions involving parameters for nonlinear evolution equations. When these parameters are taken to be special values, the solitary wave solutions are derived from the exact traveling wave solutions. It is shown that the ?exp(-j(x))??method provides an effective and a more powerful mathematical tool for solving nonlinear evolution equations in mathematical physics. Comparison between our results and the well-known results will be presented.

Quasi-Binomial Regression model for the Analysis of Data with Extra-Binomial Variation

Objectives: Developing inference procedures on the quasi-binomial distribution and the regression model. methods: Score testing and the method of maximum likelihood for regression parameters estimation. Data: Several examples are included, based on published data. Results: A quasi-binomial model is used to model binary response data which exhibit extra-binomial variation. A partial score test on the binomial hypothesis versus the quasi-binomial alternative is developed and illustrated on three data sets. The extended logit transformation on the binomial parameter is introduced and the large sample dispersion matrix of the estimated parameters is derived. The Nonlinear mixed Procedure (NLmIXED) in SAS is shown to be very appropriate for the estimation of nonlinear regression.

The Case Report on the Effectiveness of Infrared Light on Acid Burn Victim

Burn injuries are common in Pakistan. However, most people are reluctant to have infrared treatment for their wounds. This study investigated the efficacy of infrared treatment on burn wounds. The procedure involved a burn victim who had sustained acid burns to the neck and face. Nectrotomy was done to remove dead tissue from the burn wound, and after treatment, Low-Level Light was used to reduce pain and enhance healing in the patient. Initial results showed mild hypertrophic scars, no stiffness. Post-operation therapy included physical training regimens and massage. The patient showed satisfactory results and felt less tightness in neck movements by the following treatment. The article concludes by showing that infrared light promoted repair and regrowth at a cellular level.

A Study of Some Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations by Using Adomian Decomposition method and Variational Iteration method

In this paper, a numerical solution of nonlinear partial differential equation, Benjamin-Bona-mahony (BBm) and Cahn-Hilliard equation is presented by using Adomain Decomposition method (ADm) and Variational Iteration method (VIm). The results reveal that the two methods are very effective, simple and very close to the exact solution.

Berrettini Anastomosis Iatrogenic Injury Relating to Carpel Tunnel Syndrome Case Study

Some diseases require medical mitigation following the diagnosis, and sometimes the situation means that the patient has to undertake strong medication. However, this medicine is designed pharmacodynamically to interact with other organs before they reach the intended organ. Some mitigation imposes challenges on the involved organ. While the main organ will be healed, some drugs’ footprints will be left out to other organs. These are called iatrogenic injuries. In the case of anastomosis, it requires the alteration of surgical methods or the origin of iatrogenic injury in the arm;thus, the knowledge of anastomosis is very important to the field of medical practice. In addition, carpal tunnel release becomes vital in curing carpal tunnel syndrome. The paper focuses on a case of a 42-year-old woman found to have a complication to her middle finger. This case becomes important for studying Berrettini anastomosis iatrogenic injury, which relates to carpal tunnel syndrome. The Berrettini branch is a complication that facilitates communication between the superficial ulnar and median nerve. The analysis also provides the electro-diagnostic evidence of Berrettini anastomosis on how it can give a position three-finger and thus contribute to a force explanation of the median neuropraxia. Lastly, the paper provides information on the implication of the Berrettini branch for surgical use. The implication of pictures in the digital era can be used to analyze the varied connection and length between the median nerve and ulnar section. It’s easy to locate the position of high risk of iatrogenic injury in the palm due to the consistent location of Berrettini communication branches. The precaution is that operations have to be conducted moderately for a clear vision as the carefully mitigated practice ensures protection from the destruction and injury of the surrounding structures.

Amoxicillin–clavulanic acid induced sperm abnormalities and histopathological changes in mice

Objective: To explore the genotoxic potential and histopathological changes induced in liver, kidney, testis, brain and heart after using the antibiotic drug amoxicillin/clavulanic acid(4:1).methods: The study included chromosomal aberration analysis in bone-marrow and mouse spermatocytes, induction of sperm morphological abnormalities and histopathological changes in different body organs. The drug was administrated orally at a dose of81 mg/kg body weight twice daily(Total = 162 mg/kg/day) for various periods of time equivalent to 625 mg/men(twice daily).Results: The results revealed non-significant chromosomal aberrations induced after treatment with amoxicillin/clavulanic acid(AC) in both bone marrow and mouse spermatocytes after 7 and 10 days treatment. On the other hand, statistically significant percentages of sperm morphological abnormalities were recorded. Such percentage reached 8.10 ± 0.55, 9.86 ± 0.63 and 12.12 ± 0.58 at the three time intervals tested(7, 14 and 35 days after the 1 st treatment respectively)(treatment performed for 5 successive days) compared with 2.78 ± 0.48 for the control. The results also revealed histopathological changes in different body organs after AC treatment which increased with the prolongation of the period of therapy. Congestion of central vain, liver hemorrhage and hydropic changes in hepatocytes were noticed in the liver. Degenerative changes were found in kidney glomerulus and tubules while testis showed atrophy of seminiferous tubules, and reduction of spermatogenesis. AC also induced neurotoxicity and altered brain neurotransmitter levels. Hemorrhage in the myocardium, disruption of cardiac muscle fibers and pyknotic nuclei in cardiomyocytes were recorded as side effects of AC in heart ***: The results concluded that AC treatment induced sperm morphological abnormalities and histopathological changes in different body organs. Clinicians must be aware of such results while describing the drug.

Quasi-Negative Binomial: Properties, Parametric Estimation, Regression model and Application to RNA-SEQ Data

Background: The Poisson and the Negative Binomial distributions are commonly used to model count data. The Poisson is characterized by the equality of mean and variance whereas the Negative Binomial has a variance larger than the mean and therefore both models are appropriate to model over-dispersed count data. Objectives: A new two-parameter probability distribution called the Quasi-Negative Binomial Distribution (QNBD) is being studied in this paper, generalizing the well-known negative binomial distribution. This model turns out to be quite flexible for analyzing count data. Our main objectives are to estimate the parameters of the proposed distribution and to discuss its applicability to genetics data. As an application, we demonstrate that the QNBD regression representation is utilized to model genomics data sets. Results: The new distribution is shown to provide a good fit with respect to the “Akaike Information Criterion”, AIC, considered a measure of model goodness of fit. The proposed distribution may serve as a viable alternative to other distributions available in the literature for modeling count data exhibiting overdispersion, arising in various fields of scientific investigation such as genomics and biomedicine.

Frequency of musculoskeletal Pain among Surgeons in Karachi

To determine the dynamic physical strain exerted on an individual during work, an evaluation of all physical performances is necessary. For surgeons, sustaining healthy ergonomics is essential, particularly for cases requiring long standing hours. Indeed, the absence of proper ergonomics may lead to multiple musculoskeletal issues. Failure to check these problems may lead to future degenerative changes and eventually career-ending damages. Pain among surgeons is expected since they spend many hours caring for patients that they ignore their health, standing for prolonged hours. Lack of attention to work ergonomics often leads to work-related muscle pain and increased risk of problems.
