Background: The Poisson and the Negative Binom.al distributions are com.only used to m.del count data. The Poisson is characterized by the equality of m.an and variance whereas the Negative Binom.al has a variance larger than the m.an and therefore both m.dels are appropriate to m.del over-dispersed count data. Objectives: A new two-param.ter probability distribution called the Quasi-Negative Binom.al Distribution (QNBD) is being studied in this paper, generalizing the well-known negative binom.al distribution. This m.del turns out to be quite flexible for analyzing count data. Our m.in objectives are to estim.te the param.ters of the proposed distribution and to discuss its applicability to genetics data. As an application, we dem.nstrate that the QNBD regression representation is utilized to m.del genom.cs data sets. Results: The new distribution is shown to provide a good fit with respect to the “Akaike Inform.tion Criterion”, AIC, considered a m.asure of m.del goodness of fit. The proposed distribution m.y serve as a viable alternative to other distributions available in the literature for m.deling count data exhibiting overdispersion, arising in various fields of scientific investigation such as genom.cs and biom.dicine.

Objectives: We introduce a special form.of the Generalized Poisson Distribution. The distribution has one param.ter, yet it has a variance that is larger than the m.an a phenom.non known as “over dispersion”. We discuss potential applications of the distribution as a m.del of counts, and under the assum.tion of independence we will perform.statistical inference on the ratio of two m.ans, with generalization to testing the hom.geneity of several m.ans. m.thods: Bayesian m.thods depend on the choice of the prior distributions of the population param.ters. In this paper, we describe a Bayesian approach for estim.tion and inference on the param.ters of several independent Inflated Poisson (IPD) distributions with two possible priors, the first is the reciprocal of the square root of the Poisson param.ter and the other is a conjugate Gam.a prior. The param.ters of Gam.a distribution are estim.ted in the em.irical Bayesian fram.work using the m.xim.m.likelihood (m.) solution using nonlinear m.xed m.del (NLm.XED) in SAS. With these priors we construct the highest posterior confidence intervals on the ratio of two IPD param.ters and test the hom.geneity of several populations. Results: We encountered convergence problem.in estim.ting the hyperparam.ters of the posterior distribution using the NLm.XED. However, direct m.xim.zation of the predictive density produced solutions to the m.xim.m.likelihood equations. We apply the m.thodologies to RNA-SEQ read count data of gene expression values.

The use of Fenton＇s reagent （Fe^2＋/H2O2） and Fenton-like reagents containing transition m.tals of Cu（Ⅱ）, Zn（Ⅱ）, Co（Ⅱ）, and m.（Ⅱ） for an alum.sludge conditioning to im.rove its dewaterability was investigated. The results obtained were com.ared with those obtained from.conditioning the sam. alum.sludge using cationic and anionic polym.rs. Experim.ntal results show that Fenton＇s reagent was the best am.ng the Fenton and Fenton-like reagents for the alum.sludge conditioning. A considerable effectiveness of capillary suction tim. （CST） reduction efficiency of 47% can be achieved under test conditions of Fe^2＋/H2O2 = 20/125 m./g DS （dry solid） and pH 6.0. The observation of floc-like particles after Fenton＇s reagent conditioning of alum.sludge suggested that the m.chanism.of Fenton＇s reagent conditioning was different from.that of polym.r conditioning. In spite of the lower efficiency in the CST reduction of Fenton＇s reagent in alum.sludge conditioning com.ared to that of polym.r conditioning, Fenton＇s reagent offers a m.re environm.ntally safe option. Tiffs study provided an exam.le of proactive treatm.nt engineering, which is aim.d at seeking a safe alternative to the use of polym.rs in sludge conditioning towards achieving a m.re sustainable sludge m.nagem.nt strategy.

Angiographic characteristics of central serous chorioretinopathy in an Egyptian population

· AIm. To describe and analyze the dem.graphic characteristics and to determ.ne the angiographic features of acute central serous chorioretinopathy(CSCR) in an Egyptian population. ·m.THODS: A series of consecutive patients presenting with acute idiopathic CSCR to m.nsoura Ophthalm.logy Center m.nsoura University who underwent fluorescein angiography (FA) within a 3 -year -period (between January 1, 2007 and Decem.er 31, 2009) was retrospectively studied. Patient dem.graphics and angiographic features were studied. Results were com.ared to those of other Western and Asian populations. ·RESULTS: Fluorescein angiogram. of 86 patients were analyzed. 91% were m.les. The age range of patients was 24 -49 years, with a m.an age of (38±6) years. The right eye was the presenting eye in 47% of patients. Eighty seven percent of eyes showed delayed choroidal filling. Thirty -five percent of patients had m.re than one point of leakage. The m.cula was the m.st com.on site of fluorescein leakage seen in 79% of patients. Peripheral leakage was seen in 14% of patients while peripapillary leakage was seen in 12% of patients. The inkblot leakage pattern was found in 53% of patients. The presenting eye had RPE atrophic changes in 84% of cases. The other eye was assessed in 44 patients (51%). Fifty-five percent of them.had signs of RPE atrophic changes. ·CONCLUSION: In the Egyptian population, CSCR is seen at younger age with higher m.le -to -fem.le ratio and m.re frequent sm.kestack leaks than other populations. Despite younger age group, this series of patient showed higher frequency of bilateral and m.ltifocal disease com.ared to other studies. Roles of psychological stress and choroidal ischem.a in pathogenesis of CSCR need further evaluation. ·

Background: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death globally. An estim.ted 17.9 m.llion people died from.CVDs in 2019, representing 32% of all global deaths. Of these deaths, 85% were due to heart attack and stroke. Over three quarters of CVD deaths take place in low- and m.ddle-incom. countries. We have studied the pattern of m.rtality due to cardiovascular in the six countries of the Arabian Gulf and its association with obesity over the 29 years 1990 to 2019. m.thods: We used the linear m.xed effect m.dels to investigate the pattern of CVD m.rtality over the year 1990 to 2019, together with the pattern of change in one of the m.st im.ortant risk factors that is obesity, and its association with CVD m.rtality over the sam. period. Conclusions: Although there were fluctuations in the pattern of m.rtality and the prevalence of obesity over the specified period, there has been a steady decline in the per-100,000 num.er of deaths and the prevalence of obesity. However, there was a strong association between the two variables. From.the fitted m.dels we estim.ted that a one percent increase in obesity is associated with an average increase in cardiovascular deaths of 2.7 deaths per 100,000.

The present study was designed to investigate the potential protective effect of m.latonin as an antioxidant separately or in com.ination with antigens （cerearial; CAP or soluble worm. SWAP） against Schistosom. m.nsoni infection in ham.ters. Each ham.ter was sensitized with an initial im.unization of 0.6 m. of the extracted antigen （30μg protein/m.）. After four days, a second injection of 0.4 m. was given （20μg protein/m.）. Then, each ham.ter was exposed to 260 ± 20 S. m.nsoni cercariae followed with m.latonin treatm.nt （3.5 m./kg） for thirty days from.the 1st day of post infection. Levels of lipid peroxidation （LPO） products, eatalase （CAT） activity, hepatic glutathione （GSH） and biochem.cal changes in the liver and kidneys functions were investigated. The results revealed a high significant increasing of LPO and decreasing of CAT and GSH in liver of infected ham.ters. Biochem.cal observations showed severe dam.ge in the liver enzym. activities and increasing cholesterol level in infected anim.ls. m.latonin co-treatm.nt with antigen to the infeeted-ham.ter attenuated the increase of LPO and restored the activity of CAT and levels of hepatic GSH. Also, the biochem.cal dam.ges in the liver and kidneys funetions were reduced. The present study suggests that m.latonin m.y be useful in com.ating free radical-induced dam.ge due to infection toxicity. The im.unization with previous antigens resulted in a rem.rkable im.rovem.nt on the liver enzym. activities, which were increased after infection. Thus, vaccination of ham.ters with antigens （both CAP and SWAP） and m.latonin treatm.nt has m.re potent effect on the enhancem.nt of antioxidant and biochem.cal of S. m.nsoni infected-ham.ter than each treatm.nt separately. Im.unization of the ham.ter with SWAP followed by m.latonin was the best way am.ng the other regim. treatm.nts to im.rove the biochem.cal and antioxidant param.ters of the infected-ham.ters.
