Enhancing Canola Yield and Photosynthesis under Water stress with Hydrogel Polymers

While Egypt’s canola production per unit area has recently grown,productivity remains low,necessitating increased *** are water-absorbent polymer compounds that can optimize irrigation schedules by increasing the soil’s ability to retain ***,twoﬁeld experiments were conducted to examine hydrogel application to sandy soil on canola growth,biochemical aspects,yield,yield traits,and nutritional quality of yielded seeds grown under water deﬁcit stress *** experiments were conducted by arranging a split-plot layout in a randomized complete block design(RCBD)with three times replications of each *** water stress at 75%or 50%of crop evapotranspiration(ETc)lowered chlorophyll a,chlorophyll b,caro-tenoids,and total pigments content,indole-3-acetic acid,plant development,seed yield,and oil and total carbo-hydrates of seed yield,hydrogel treatment enhanced all of the traits mentioned ***,hydrogel enhanced to gather compatible solutes(proline,amino acids,total soluble sugars),phenolics content in leaves,seed protein,and crop water productivity,which increased while the plants were under water *** results revealed that the full irrigation(100%ETc)along with hydrogel compared to water-stressed(50%ETc)led to enhanced seed yield(kg ha^(-1)),Oil(%),and Total carbohydrates(%)of rapeseed by 57.1%,11.1%and 15.7%,***,under water-stressed plots with hydrogel exhibited enhancement by 10.0%,3.2%and 5.1%in seed yield(kg ha^(-1)),oil(%),and total carbohydrates(%)of rapeseed by 57.1%,11.1%and 15.7%,respec-tively compared to *** a result,the use of hydrogel polymer will be a viable and practical solution for increasing agricultural output under water deﬁcit stress situations.

Understanding the catalysis of chromium trioxide added magnesium hydride for hydrogen storage and Li ion battery applications

This study explores how the chemical interaction between magnesium hydride(MgH_(2))and the additive CrO_(3) influences the hydrogen/lithium storage characteristics of MgH_(2).We have observed that a 5 wt.%CrO_(3) additive reduces the dehydrogenation activation energy of MgH_(2) by 68 kJ/mol and lowers the required dehydrogenation temperature by 80℃.CrO_(3) added MgH_(2) was also tested as an anode in an Li ion battery,and it is possible to deliver over 90%of the total theoretical capacity(2038 mah/g).Evidence for improved reversibility in the battery reaction is found only after the incorporation of additives with MgH_(2).In depth characterization study by X-ray diffraction(XRD)technique provides convincing evidence that the CrO_(3) additive interacts with MgH_(2) and produces Cr/MgO *** free energy analyses confirm the thermodynamic feasibility of conversion from MgH_(2)/CrO_(3) to MgO/Cr,which is well supported by the identification of Cr(0)in the powder by X ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPs)*** high resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM)and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDs)we found evidence for the presence of 5 nm size Cr nanocrystals on the surface of MgO rock salt *** is also convincing ground to consider that MgO rock salt accommodates Cr in the *** observations support the argument that creation of active metal–metal dissolved rock salt oxide interface may be vital for improving the reactivity of MgH_(2),both for the improved storage of hydrogen and lithium.

Invertebrate Iridovirus Modulation of Apoptosis

Programmed cell death （apoptosis） is a key host response to virus infection. Viruses that can modulate host apoptotic responses are likely to gain important opportunities for transmission. Here we review recent studies that demonstrate that particles of Invertebrate iridescent virus 6 （IIV-6）（Iridoviridae, genus Iridovirus）, or an IIV-6 virion protein extract, are capable of inducing apoptosis in lepidopteran and coleopteran cells, at concentrations 1000-fold lower than that required to shut-off host macromolecular synthesis. Induction of apoptosis depends on endocytosis of one or more heat-sensitive virion component（s）. studies with a JNK inhibitor （sP600125） indicated that the JNK signaling pathway is significantly involved in apoptosis in IIV-6 infections of Choristoneurafumiferana cells. The genome of IIV-6 codes for an inhibitor of apoptosis iap gene （193R） that encodes a protein of 208 aa with 15% identity and 28% similarity in its amino acid sequence to IAP-3 from Cydia pomonella ganulovirus （CpGV）. Transcription of IIV-6 iap did not require prior DNA or protein synthesis, indicating that it is an immediate-early class gene. Transient expression and gene knockdown studies have confirmed the functional nature of the IIV-6 lap gene. We present a tentative model for IIV-6 induction and inhibition of apoptosis in insect cells and discuss the potential applications of these findings in insect pest control.

Predicting the optical observables for nucleon scattering on even-even actinides

The previously derived Lane consistent dispersive coupled-channel optical model for nucleon scattering on 232Th and 23su nuclei is extended to describe scattering on even-even actinides with Z=90-98. A soft-rotator- model （sRM） description of the low-lying nuclear structure is used, where the sRM Hamiltonian parameters are adjusted to the observed collective levels of the target nucleus. sRM nuclear wave functions （mixed in K quantum number） have been used to calculate the coupling matrix elements of the generalized optical model. The ＂effective＂ deformations that define inter-band couplings are derived from the sRM Hamiltonian parameters. Conservation of nuclear volume is enforced by introducing a dynamic monopolar term to the deformed potential, leading to additional couplings between rotational bands. The fitted static deformation parameters are in very good agreement with those derived by Wang and collaborators using the Weizs^cker-skyrme global mass model （Ws4）, allowing use of the latter to predict cross sections for nuclei without experimental data. A good description of the scarce ＂optical＇experimental database is achieved. sRM couplings and volume conservation allow a precise calculation of the compound-nucleus formation cross sections, which is significantly different from that calculated with rigid-rotor potentials coupling the ground-state rotational band. The derived parameters can be used to describe both neutron- and proton-induced reactions.

Prostate cancer is an androgen-dependent cancer with unique metabolic features compared to many other solid tumors,and typically does not exhibit the“Warburg effect”.During malignant transformation,an early metabolic switch diverts the dependence of normal prostate cells on aerobic glycolysis for the synthesis of and secretion of citrate towards a more energetically favorable metabolic phenotype,whereby citrate is actively oxidised for energy and biosynthetic processes(*** novo lipogenesis).It is now clear that lipid metabolism is one of the key androgen-regulated processes in prostate cells and alterations in lipid metabolism are a hallmark of prostate cancer,whereby increased de novo lipogenesis accompanied by overexpression of lipid metabolic genes are characteristic of primary and advanced *** recent advances in our understanding of altered lipid metabolism in prostate tumorigenesis and cancer progression,the intermediary metabolism of the normal prostate and its relationship to androgen signaling remains poorly *** this review,we discuss the fundamental metabolic relationships that are distinctive in normal versus malignant prostate tissues,and the role of androgens in the regulation of lipid metabolism at different stages of prostate tumorigenesis.

Nonlinear optical characterization of single β-barium-borate nanocrystals using second-harmonic confocal microscopy

The confocal microscopy technique was applied for nonlinear optical characterization of single β-barium-borate（β-BBO） nanocrystals. The experimental setup allows measurements of the laser polarization-selective secondharmonic（sh） generation, and the results can be used to determine the nanocrystals＇ c-axis orientation, as well as to obtain information about their second-order susceptibility χ^（2）. The dependence of the sh signal on the laser polarization allowed the discrimination of individual particles from aggregates. The data were fitted using a model that takes into account the BBO properties and the experimental setup characteristics considering（i） the electrostatic approximation,（ii） the effects of the microscope objective used to focus the light on the sample in an epi-geometry configuration, and（iii） the symmetry of χ^（2） for the β-BBO nanocrystals. A signal at the third-harmonic frequency was also detected, but it was too weak to be studied in detail.

Oral PTCTs (Particulated Transialidase) Removes serum Microparticles and decreases Inflammation in Atherosclerotic Plaques of Rabbits

Background: Previous studies showed that atherosclerotic plaque vulnerability was related with microparticles (MPs)-vesicles larger than 100 nm, which released MMP9 collagenase. In our previous study, intramuscular injection of a new drug (PTCTs) normalized oxidized LDL serum levels and reduced rabbit atherosclerosis. Now, we studied administration of oral PTCTs in order to clarify anti-atherosclerotic mechanism of action, analyzing if the treatment removed MPs containing ox-LDL and Mycoplasma pneumoniae antigens and improved the immune response. Methods: We compared two groups of rabbits. Control group (CG, n = 6)—1% cholesterol enriched diet for 12 weeks;Treated group (TG, n = 8)—1% cholesterol enriched diet for 12 weeks with administration of PTCTs (400 μl/day) during the last 6 weeks of diet. The animals had their blood collected, in three different phases of the protocol before being fed with hypercholesterolemic diet, before being treated with water or PTCTs and at the moment of sacrifice. The serum was submitted to immunofluorescence technique to evaluate the quantity of microparticles marked with antibodies against Mycoplasma pneumoniae and ox-LDL. A fragment of aorta was submitted to immunohistochemical detection of antigens from MMP9, ox-LDL, NF-κB and IL-1β. Results: PTCTs showed significant reduction in MMP-9 (P = 0.001) and a tendency of reducing IL-1β (P = 0.09) in the aortic plaques compared with CG. In the serum, PTCTs was able to remove microparticles containing antigen of ox-LDL (P = 0.004) and Mycoplasma pneumoniae (P β and mycoplasma, as well as a better stabilization of the atheromatous plaque by reducing levels of MMP-9, avoiding plaque rupture, without causing mortality or toxicity.

Photoluminescent Properties of CoMoO_(4)Nanorods Quickly synthesized and Annealed in a Domestic Microwave Oven

A simple way to prepare α- and β-CoMoO4 nanorods is reported in this paper. CoMoO4xH2O nanorod precursors were obtained using the microwave-assisted hydrothermal (mah) method. By annealing the as-prepared CoMoO44xH2O precursor at 600℃ for 10 min in a domestic microwave oven, α- and β-CoMoO4 nanorods were prepared. These powders were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-sEM), Fourier transform Raman microscopy and ultraviolet visible absorption spectroscopy (UV-vis spectra) as well as photoluminescence (PL) measurements. Based on the results, these materials revealed nanorod morphology. PL spectra obtained at room temperature for α- and β-CoMoO4 particles exhibited maximum components around the blue light emission. The results show that the domestic microwave oven has been successfully employed to obtain α- and β-CoMoO4 nanoparticles.
