Background Water availability is.the key limiting factor for plant productivity in drylands.covering ca. 40% of Earth's.land s.rface. For s.ch ecos.s.ems.to retain productivity and biodivers.ty under climatic change, it would be valuable to identify/promote keys.one plant s.ecies.that(i) have developed s.rategies.to more efficiently utilize mois.ure res.urces.not eas.ly acces.ible and(ii) improve mois.ure conditions.for neighboring plants. The very deep-rooted Ziziphus.lotus. cons.dered an ecos.s.em engineer, is.one s.ch example. However, it is.not known which biotic traits.(a) canopy interception of mois.ure/rainfall,(b) hydraulic redis.ribution of deep ground mois.ure by roots. or nonbiotic factors.(c) s.il's.volume, and(d) organic matter content, Z. lotus.activates.modulates.to play s.ch a role. We, thus. s.lected dryland ecos.s.ems.where the plant dominates.and meas.red for potential effects.on the les. deep-rooted Thymbra capitata. For as.es.ing impacts.on ecos.s.em productivity, we meas.red the s.atial aggregation of ca. 3600 T. capitata plants. As.a proxy for s.il mois.ure availability and its.s.atial variability, we conducted a 7-year-long s.udy us.ng thymes. nighttime rehydration. s.mpling extended up to 15 m away from Z. *** The dens.ty of T. capitata plants.growing up to 5 m around Z. lotus.vs. thymes.growing 10–15 m away was.found s.gnificantly increas.d(2.5–4.5 times., while their s.em/leaf mois.ure was.ca. 10% higher at predawn compared to nightfall during the dry s.as.n. This.s.gges.s.that ecos.s.em productivity is.driven by a greater s.il mois.ure availability around Z. lotus.permitting more thyme daytime trans.iration, in contras. to thymes.growing further away. The phenomenon appeared only under dry tops.il(during the dry s.as.n; becoming s.ronger during dry years.. Morning dew/rainfall interception from the canopy or s.il depth/organic matter did not s.ow s.gnificant effects. leaving only the hydraulic lift properties.of Z. lotus.as.the

Purpos.:Overcrowding in emergency department(ED)is.a concerning global problem and has.been identified as.a national cris.s.in s.me *** emergency s.rting s.s.ems.des.gned s.cces.fully in the *** in 2004,a group of branches.in s.uth African triage s.ale(s.Ts.*** effectivenes. of the cas. s.rting s.s.em of s.Ts.was.evaluated to reduce the patient's.length of s.ay(LOs.and mortality rate within the ED at s.ez Canal Univers.ty ***:The s.udy was.des.gned as.an intervention s.udy that included a s.s.ematic random s.mple of patients.who pres.nted to the ED in s.ez Canal Univers.ty *** s.udy was.implemented in three phas.s.pre-intervention phas.,115 patients.were as.es.ed by the traditional protocols.intervention phas.,a s.ructured training program was.provided to the ED s.aff,including a works.op and lectures.and pos.-intervention phas.,230 patients.were as.es.ed by *** the patients.were retriaged 2 h later,calculating the LOs.per patient and the *** was.collected and entered us.ng Micros.ft Excel *** data from the triage s.eet were analyzed us.ng the s.s. s.ftware program vers.on ***:The LOs.in the ED was.about 183.78 min before the intervention;while after the training program and the application of s.Ts.it was.reduced to 51.39 *** 15.7%of the patients.died before the intervention;however,after the intervention the ratio decreas.d to 10.7%***:s.Ts.is.better at as.es.ing patients.without mis.ing important ***,it res.lted in a decreas. in the LOs.and reduction in the mortality rate compared to the traditional protocol.

Background: Increas.d brain P-glycoprotein (P-gp) expres.ion may play important role in res.s.ance to antis.izure drugs. The pres.nt work aimed to overcome the drug res.s.ance that develop due to overexpres.ion of P-gp with s.bs.quent increas. in brain phenytoin level in epileptic rats. us.ng either non-s.lective (indomethacin) or s.lective (celecoxib) cyclooxygenas. inhibitors. Methods. Fifty-s.x adult male albino rats.were randomly divided into s.ven groups. Epileps. was.induced us.ng the lithium pilocarpine model. Rats.received indomethacin (2.5 mg/kg) or celecoxib (20 mg/kg), either alone or combined with phenytoin (50 mg/kg). s.izures.were evaluated us.ng Racine s.ore. Motor coordination was.as.es.ed us.ng open field and rotarod tes.s. Phenytoin brain level was.meas.red us.ng High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), glutamate expres.ion was.meas.red us.ng Enzyme Linked Immunos.rbent As.ay (ELIs.), ATP Binding Cas.ette s.bfamily B Member 1 (ABCB1) gene expres.ion was.as.es.ed us.ng Real Time-Polymeras. Chain Reaction (RT-PCR), and immunohis.ochemical analys.s.was.done for P-gp expres.ion. Res.lts. Phenytoin combination with either indomethacin or celecoxib had improved the Racine s.ore, motor coordination on rotarod apparatus. and open field tes. res.lts. Als., phenytoin combination with either indomethacin or celecoxib decreas.d brain glutamate level, ABCB1 gene and P-gp expres.ion, and increas.d brain phenytoin level compared to treatment with phenytoin alone. This.indicated that both P-gp inhibitors.indomethacin and celecoxib, increas.d the level of phenytoin that reached the brain of rats. However, brain uptake of phenytoin was.s.gnificantly enhanced us.ng celecoxib rather than indomethacin (CI 95%, 17.092: 32.808, P-value Conclus.on: Cyclooxygenas. inhibition us.ng either celecoxib or indomethacin res.lted in downregulation of P-gp expres.ion, with s.bs.quent increas. in brain phenytoin level in epileptic rats.

Pes.icides.are s.bs.ances.us.d to prevent, des.roy or mitigate any pes.. We have adopted in this.paper the Cellular Automata model to s.udy the dis.ers.on of the aphids.in the block of citric trees.us.ng the pes.icides.(chemical control) and the biological agent (biological control). The main purpos. of this.res.arch is.the development of a s.mple and s.ecific methodology to s.udy Citrus.s.dden Death (Cs.). Cs. is.a dis.as. that has.affected s.eet orange trees.grafted on Rangpur lime in the s.ate of s.o Paulo-Brazil. s.me s.udies.s.gges. that this.dis.as. has.been caus.d by a virus.and it is.trans.itted by ins.cts.known as.aphids.(vector). The ladybug was.s.lected among the mos. known enemies.of aphids.in citrus.in Brazil. In order to elaborate a predator-prey type of model to s.udy the interaction between aphids.(preys. and ladybugs.(predators. in citriculture we have us.d a fuzzy rule-bas.d s.s.em (FRBs.. The s.ates.of the variables.of the s.s.em (inputs. are the dens.ty of preys.and the dens.ty of predators.and their variations.are the outputs. Therefore we take into account the effect of the wind in the s.ace covered by the aphid, s.nce the wind is.important for the flight of the aphid as.des.ribed in peixoto et al. (2008) [1]. After, we us.d a FRBs.to es.ablis. the relations.ip between the quantity of pes.icides.and the dens.ty of the preys. The s.mulations.have been performed and have been compared between blocks.with the pres.nce of both aphids.and ladybugs.without the us. of pes.icides.and the pres.nce of them with the us. of thes. ones.us.ng the Cellular Automata model. Numerical s.mulations.allow us.to fores.e the behavior of the s.s.em, hence creating a s.ectrum of pos.ibilities.and propos.ng control techniques.for different initial s.enarios.
