Salt response of the freshwater microalga Scenedesmus obliquus(Turp.)Kutz is modulated by the algal growth phase

Growth and biochemical responses of the coenobial green alga Scenedesmus obliquus to salinity stress were monitored across different phases of *** alga was cultured on BG11 growth medium and subjected to 0,30,100,and 200 mmol/L NaCl for a period of 20 d,during which algal cultures were harvested at 4-d *** salinity-induced inhibition of algal growth was accompanied with prolongation of timing of the different growth *** sharp and progressive salinity-induced inhibition of algal growth rate during the early phase of growth points to salt shock but moderation of inhibition at the subsequent stages of growth means algal acclimation to *** concentrations of chlorophylls a and b,soluble sugars,proteins as well as those of K+and Na+in the alga exhibited peaks at the initiation of the exponential phase of growth,with increasing magnitude in proportion to the increase in the level of ***,whereas soluble sugars of the alga peaked at initiation of the exponential phase,starch concentration progressively increased with culture age,reaching saturation towards the stationary *** the salinity-induced increase in soluble sugars was most evident at the early stages of growth the reverse was true for *** present results point to fast acclimation of *** to salt stress post a brief salt shock,utilizing soluble sugars,K+and Na+for osmotic *** salinity from 0 to 200 mmol/L NaCl led to progressive increase in soluble sugars,proteins,K+and Na+concentrations of the algal cells,particularly at the early stages of ***,the salinity-induced increase in chlorophyll concentration approached a limit at 100 mmol/L NaCl whereas that in starch concentration was more evident at the later stages of growth.

Temporal variation in chemical composition of Dictyota dichotoma (Hudson) J.V. Lamouroux (Dictyotales,Phaeophyceae) from Red Sea Coast, Egypt

Objective: To relate the chemical composition of Dictyota dichotoma (Hudson) *** (D. dichotoma) to variation of water characteristics at Hurghada, ***: Sea water and D. dichotoma fronds were collected from Hurghada shores, during autumn of 2014. Water samples were analyzed and fronds of D. dichotoma were biochemically ***: Sea water was characterized with high levels of salinity, P and heavy metals but with low content of nitrogen. The confined nature and the high evaporation of the Red sea contribute to the high salinity while the mining and transportation of phosphatic ore in the nearby region contribute to the high load of P and heavy metals. With the progress of season from September to November, water temperature was markedly reduced whereas pH and ionic content of water was reduced to a lesser extent, with marked alteration in ionic composition. With the progress of season towards winter, there was marked reduction in mineral composition of the fronds, shift in frond composition in favor of carbohydrates at the expense of proteins, lipids and alginates;and shift in the pigment composition in favor of chlorophylls at the expense of carotenoids and ***: These facts point to active growth and photosynthetic activity during the cold period;that is, D. dichotoma is a cold water alga. D. dichotoma had moderate nutritive value, with moderate contents of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids and minerals. The mineral accumulation capacity of the fronds was more evident for N, P and K than for Ca, Mg and heavy metals.

Expression of Recombinant Human FADD,Preparation of Its Polyclonal Antiserum and the Application in Immunoassays

The wild-type human Fas-associated death domain （FADD） protein was expressed as a His-tag fusion protein in Escherichia coll. Recombinant FADD proteins were purified under the denatured condition. After denatured protein purification, it was refolded and obtained at a yield of about 23 mg/L. Purified FADD exhibited as a homogenous band corresponding to the molecular weight of 31 kDa. Immunization of rabbits against the refolded FADD protein was allowed the production of high titre polyclonal antiserum. This new polyelonal antibody could recognize recombinant FADD protein in Western blot. Immunoreactivity was also observed in immunofiuorescence assay. The low cost polyclonal antiserum was applicable to extensive detection of FADD in various immunoassays. Cellular ＆ Molecular Immunology. 2008;5（6）：471-474.

This review paper examines the various types of electrical generators used to convert wave energy into electrical energy. The focus is on both linear and rotary generators, including their design principles, operational efficiencies, and technological advancements. Linear generators, such as Induction, permanent magnet synchronous, and switched reluctance types, are highlighted for their direct conversion capability, eliminating the need for mechanical gearboxes. Rotary Induction generators, permanent magnet synchronous generators, and doubly-fed Induction generators are evaluated for their established engineering principles and integration with existing grid infrastructure. The paper discusses the historical development, environmental benefits, and ongoing advancements in wave energy technologies, emphasizing the increasing feasibility and scalability of wave energy as a renewable source. Through a comprehensive analysis, this review provides insights into the current state and future prospects of electrical generators in wave energy conversion, underscoring their potential to significantly reduce reliance on fossil fuels and mitigate environmental impacts.

Zero group velocity longitudinal modes in an isotropic cylinder

Zero group velocity （ZGV） modes are studied in an isotropic cylinder. The L （0, 2） mode behaves anomalously for the materials with a value of the bulk velocity ratio, to, in the range √2 〈 κ 〈 2.64 and normally otherwise. All higher modes, except the first few, have no ZGV point for all isotropic materials. This is explained analytically by finding the slope of phase velocity dispersion curves of modes first when the phase velocity equals κ and then at their initial state.

Nowadays,there is considerable research interest in proposing modern permanent magnet(PM)electric machine structures for applications such as electric *** radial and axial topologies with different arrangements of PM in the stator and rotor have been introduced for PM Vernier motors(PMVM)with the aim of increasing the performance characteristics such as power factor,efficiency,rotational torque torque density and wider constant torque-speed ***,the spoke PM arrangement has provided higher torque density than the surface and V-shaped *** in contrast,the V-shaped arrangement has a more sinusoidal flux and less cogging *** this paper,a 620 W,12-slot 16-pole Vernier PM motor with a fractional slot *** K-shaped pole is introduced,which has the advantages of spoke and V-shaped magnetic *** presenting and confirming the concept of the proposed structure based on functional comparison with conventional structures,an analytical modeling based on the harmonic analysis method is introduced to accurately predict the performance of the machine,and finally the proposed structure is prototyped and the experimental results are simulated and modeling are compared.

Winding Function Model-based Performance Evaluation of a PM Transverse Flux Generator for Applications in Direct-drive Systems

The magnetic flux in a permanent magnet transverse flux generator(PMTFG) is three-dimensional(3D), therefore, its efficacy is evaluated using 3D magnetic field analysis. Although the 3D finite-element method(FEM) is highly accurate and reliable for machine simulation, it requires a long computation time, which is crucial when it is to be used in an iterative optimization process. Therefore, an alternative to 3DFEM is required as a rapid and accurate analytical technique. This paper presents an analytical model for PMTFG analysis using winding function method. To obtain the air gap MMF distribution, the excitation magneto-motive force(MMF) and the turn function are determined based on certain assumptions. The magnetizing inductance, flux density, and back-electro-magnetomotive force of the winding are then determined. To assess the accuracy of the proposed method, the analytically calculated parameters of the generator are compared to those obtained by a 3D-FEM. The presented method requires significantly shorter computation time than the 3D-FEM with comparable accuracy.

Effect of structural variation in biomass-derived nonfluorinated ionic liquids electrolytes on the performance of supercapacitors

There is a growing interest in sustainable and high performance supercapacitors(SCs) operating at elevated temperatures as they are highly demanded in heat-durable electronics. Here, we present a biomass-derived nonfluorinated ionic liquid(IL) [P_(4444)][HFuA] and its structural analogue [P_(4444)][TpA]as electrolytes for supercapacitors comprising multiwall carbon nanotubes and activated charcoal(MWCNTs/AC) mixed carbon composite electrodes. A detailed investigation of the effect of scan rate, temperature, potential window and orientation of ions on the electrodes surfaces is performed. The supercapacitors exhibited relatively lower specific capacitance for both [P_(4444)][HFuA] and [P_(4444)][TpA] ILs at room temperature. However, the specific capacitance has significantly increased with an increase in temperature and potential window. The equivalent serie resistances of the SCs is deceased with increasing temperatures, which is a result of improved ionic conductivities of the IL electrolytes. In CV cycling at60 °C, the capacitor with [P_(4444)][HFuA] IL-based electrolyte retained about 90% of its initial capacitance,while the capacitor with [P_(4444)][TpA] IL-based electrolyte retained about 83% of its initial *** computations revealed that the aromatic [FuA]^(-) and [TpA]^(-) anions displayed perpendicular distribution that can effectively neutralize charges on the carbon surfaces. However, the [HFuA]-anion exhibited somewhat tilted configurations on the carbon electrode surfaces, contributing to their outstanding capacitive performance in electrochemical devices.
