Assessment of Aquatic Physico-chemistry and Eutrophication Rate at the Lake Tondano

The purpose of this research was conducted to determine the physical factors, namely water temperature, total dissolved solids, total suspended solids, electrical conductivity and chemical water including pH, phosphate, BOD （biochemical oxygen demand）, COD （chemical oxygen demand）, DO （dissolved oxygen）. The factors of physics and chemistry can affect the rate of eutrophication. The data obtained through laboratory analysis of physical and chemical parameters of water samples. Water samples were taken from 8 observation stations. Highly variable results were obtained in each observation station. Data physical parameters were tested with statistical multiple linear regression to determine the effect on water quality, the results show that the physical properties do not affect the rate of eutrophication in Lake Tondano. That is, the amount of total dissolved solids content and total suspended solids, will not affect the rate of eutrophication in Lake Tondano. The results of multiple linear regression satistik test against chemical parameter data that is phosphate, BOD, COD and DO showed as a significant effect on the rate of eutrophication in lakes. The higher phosphate levels will be higher as the increase of the rate of eutrophication in Lake Tondano.

Prevalence of Mild Cognitive Impairment in Individuals Aged over 65 in a Rural Area in North Greece

There are no data available on the prevalence of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) in Greece, and the existing information about dementia shows important variations depending on the geographical setting as well as the methodology employed. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of MCI in individuals aged over 65 in a rural area in the north part of Greece. From 1428 residents, 678 were finally examined, with a mean age of 73.35 years. Assessments, including neuropsychological testing, neurological examination and medical history, were used to assign a diagnosis of normal cognition, mild cognitive impairment (MCI), with or without depression, depression or dementia according to suitable criteria. A questionnaire was also used to obtain social and demographic data. The 26.3% were classified as Mild Cognitive Impaired without depression, the 8.8% as Mild Cognitive Impaired due to depression, 5.9% had sole depression, the 2.4% were diagnosed with dementia and 56.6% had normal mental status. The observed prevalence for MCI with and without depression implies a total of 35.1% of all people aged over 65 with MCI in the study area. Mild cognitive impairment is more prevalent in Greece than dementia, and its subtypes vary in prevalence.

Possibilities of Experimental Modulation of Senescence by Stimulation of Antiradical Defense

Various epidemiological studies have shown an inverse association between the consumption of polyphenols or polyphenol-rich foods and the risk of neurodegenerative, hepatic diseases. The research aimed to fight oxidative stress and lipid metabolism changes in the context of?administration?of antioxidants, such as polyphenolic extract of Aronia melanocarpa and zinc aspartate, known for its neurotrophic effects in intrinsic aging processes. Zinc aspartate and poly-phenolic extract from Aronia melanocarpa reduce oxidative stress values both in serum, liver homogenate, and in brain homogenate. Oxidative stress assessed by malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) markers was reduced in animals receiving additional zinc salts and polyphenolic extract of Aronia melanocarpa, which underlines their role in antioxidant defense. This combination produces more superior hypolipidemic and antioxidant effects than in the case of separate administration within experimental senescence induced in the murine model. Further studies will investigate the effect of different dose combinations of zinc aspartate and polyphenolic extract of Aronia melanocarpa at different periods of treatments on age-associated liver/cerebral dysfunction.

Incidence and peri-operative risk factors for development of acute kidney injury in patients after cardiac surgery:A prospective observational study

BACKGROUND Patients admitted to intensive care unit(ICU) after cardiac surgery develop acute kidney injury(AKI) immediately post-operation. We hypothesized that AKI occurs mainly due to perioperative risk factors and may affect *** To assess peri-operative risk factors for AKI post cardiac surgery and its relationship with clinical *** This was an observational single center, tertiary care setting study, which enrolled 206 consecutive patients, admitted to ICU after cardiac surgery. Patients were followed-up until ICU discharge or death, in order to determine the incidence of AKI, perioperative risk factors for AKI and its association with *** and multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to assess predictor variables for AKI *** After ICU admission, 55 patients(26.7%) developed AKI within 48 h. From the logistic regression analysis performed, high EuroScore Ⅱ(OR: 1.18;95%CI: 1.06-1.31, P = 0.003), white blood cells(WBC) pre-operatively(OR: 1.0;95%CI: 1.0-1.0, P = 0.002) and history of chronic kidney disease(OR: 2.82;95%CI: 1.195-6.65, P = 0.018) emerged as independent predictors of AKI among univariate predictors. AKI that developed AKI had longer duration of mechanical ventilation [1113(777–2195) vs 714(511–1020) min, P = 0.0001] and ICU length of stay [70(28–129) vs 26(21–51) h, P = 0.0001], higher rate of ICU-acquired weakness(16.4% vs 5.3%, P =0.015), reintubation(10.9% vs 1.3%, P = 0.005), dialysis(7% vs 0%, P = 0.005), delirium(36.4% vs 23.8%, P = 0.001) and mortality(3.6% vs 0.7%, P = 0.046).CONCLUSION Patients present frequently with AKI after cardiac surgery. EuroScore Ⅱ, WBC count and chronic kidney disease are independent predictors of AKI development. The occurrence of AKI is associated with poor outcome.

Compliance and Barriers Facing Nurses with Surgical Site Infection Prevention Guidelines

Background: Surgical Site Infection (SSI) is defined as infection that occurring within 30 days after surgical procedure or within a year of implantation of prosthesis. Surgical Site Infection can happen in up to 30% of surgical procedures and records for up to 14% of Hospital Acquired Infection (HAIs). Aim of the Study: The aim of this study was to assess levels of nurse’s Compliance;knowledge and practice regarding prevention of surgical site infection Guidelines and identify the barriers facing nurses’ compliance with surgical site infection prevention Guidelines. Design: Cross sectional descriptive study design self-reported survey. Settings: Data was collected from surgical departments from selected Menoufia Governorate Hospitals, Egypt. Sample: A large convenience sample of 450 nurses was selected. Initially 600 questionnaires were distributed, of which only 400 returned completed, a response rate of 66.6%. Tools: was comprised of the: 1) Pre-designed structured questionnaire to assess nurses’ socio-demographic characteristics’ and Nurses’ knowledge, 2) Likert-scale: to assess nurses’ compliance, nurses’ practice and nurses’ barriers facing nurses with surgical site infection prevention guidelines. Study period: The study was conducted from July to November 2019 in the selected hospitals. Results: nurses’ compliance mean scores were in low level with a mean of 13.01, it is clear that most of the nurses have poor knowledge, most of the nurses have poor practice about surgical site infection, concerning the most barriers of compliance facing nurses with surgical site infection prevention guidelines, were lack of a professional model, having no enough time, and some measures for the prevention of surgical site infection are not nurses’ responsibilities. Conclusions: Nurses working in the surgical related wards reported a low level of knowledge, practice and compliance regarding the prevention of surgical site infection guidelines. 北海南部湾(the Southern Bight of the North Sea)6个站位取样鉴定了13个小型底栖动物类群。其中线虫Nematoda、底栖桡足类Copepoda、涡虫Turbellaria、多毛类Polychaeta和水螅Hydrozoa在各站均有发现。线虫与桡足类丰度比率R为1.2～30.7。701站和435站以较低的类群组成和多样性指标、以较高的R比率而明显区别于其它各站。分析结果表明:该两个站位小型底栖群落结构除了沉积物类型因素外,巳受到污染的严重影响。比利时沿岸701站的污染源来自Western Scheldt河长年携带大量工业废物和生活污水的入侵,而435站则归因于TiO_2废物的倾倒活动。

Assessment of the patients’outcomes after implementation of South African triage scale in emergency department,Egypt

Purpose:Overcrowding in emergency department(ED)is a concerning global problem and has been identified as a national crisis in some *** emergency sorting systems designed successfully in the *** in 2004,a group of branches in South African triage scale(SATS)*** effectiveness of the case sorting system of SATS was evaluated to reduce the patient's length of stay(LOS)and mortality rate within the ED at Suez Canal University ***:The study was designed as an intervention study that included a systematic random sample of patients who presented to the ED in Suez Canal University *** study was implemented in three phases:pre-intervention phase,115 patients were assessed by the traditional protocols;intervention phase,a structured training program was provided to the ED staff,including a workshop and lectures;and post-intervention phase,230 patients were assessed by *** the patients were retriaged 2 h later,calculating the LOS per patient and the *** was collected and entered using Microsoft Excel *** data from the triage sheet were analyzed using the SPSS software program version ***:The LOS in the ED was about 183.78 min before the intervention;while after the training program and the application of SATS,it was reduced to 51.39 *** 15.7%of the patients died before the intervention;however,after the intervention the ratio decreased to 10.7%***:SATS is better at assessing patients without missing important ***,it resulted in a decrease in the LOS and reduction in the mortality rate compared to the traditional protocol.

Land Use and Property Changes in Hungary and Poland after EU Accession

Land property in the post socialist countries was rebuilt in the beginning of the 1990s. The process went in different way in all of the post-socialist countries. The result of the privatization of agricultural land was a fragmented, direct or indirect smallholder ownership structure in most of the new member states of the EU. The land, partly or totally was given back to the owners and inheritors of land reforms following the war. It means that considerable proportion of the land is cultivated by tenants, the fragmented estate structure decreases the efficiency and the increasing rental fees further destroy the profitability and competitiveness of farming. Regarding to the competitiveness of agriculture, Poland showed a developing tendency after the accession, but Hungary suffers from serious problems. Applying descriptive statistics between the changes of land use and land ownership during the research relation analysis, emphasizing the effect in competitiveness of the land price and a land rent, the paper tries to identify the main differences and similarities in land use and property structure, and their effects on the agricultural competitiveness based on the FADN data base, since 2004-2007.

Determination of Organochlorine Compounds in Sediments from the Upper Middle Sao Francisco River （Bahia, Brazil）

The objective of this study was to determine the contamination of OCPs （organochlorine pesticides） in sediments from the upper middle of Sao Francisco River （Bahia, Brazil） in order to evaluate their potential pollution risks. Samples of surface sediments were collected using a Petersen dredge at 21 stations located between Sobradinho and Cura^i. The organochlorine compounds analyzed were： p,p＇-DDT, p,p＇-DDD, p,p＇-DDE, dicofol, methoxychlor, HCHs, aldrin, endrin, endrin aldehyde, endrin ketone, dieldrin, heptachlor, heptachlor epoxide, endosulfan （ct, fl and sulfate） and chlordane （ct and ,/）. Extractions were carried out using the MAE （microwave-assisted extraction） method and organochlorine pesticides determination was achieved by GC/MS （gas chromatography-mass spectrometry）. Organochlorine concentrations ranged between 1.51-820.00 ***, indicating very low to high levels. The most frequent OCPs were endrin aldehyde, -HCH, HCH, HCH, heptachlor and heptachlor epoxide.
