Evaluation of Some Promising Soybean Genotypes to Infestation with Cotton Leafworm (Spodoptera littoralis) under Field Conditions

A two-year study was carried out in Giza Agricultural Experiments and Research Station, Agricultural Research Center (ARC), Giza, Egypt in the 2020 and 2021 summer seasons to evaluate the relative tolerance of ten soybean genotypes for cotton leafworm infestation under field conditions. Soybean genotypes H11L145, H155, H113, H4L4, H15L17, H129, H30, H19L96, Giza 111, and Crawford were distributed in randomized complete blocks design with three replications. Soybean genotypes differed significantly for cotton leafworm at the 6th, 7th, and 8th week from sowing. Low values of cotton leafworm assemblages were recorded for H113, H4L4, H15L17, Giza 111, and H129. Low percentages of the larval survival number and weight, as well as the number of the survival of pupa were recorded by feeding on leaves of genotypes H4F4, H15L17, and Giza 111 under laboratory conditions. There were significant differences among the studied genotypes in most yield attributes in both seasons. Soybean genotypes H15L17, Giza 111, H113, H129, H19L96, and H4L4 gave higher seed yield per ha, meanwhile soybean genotypes H155, H19L96, H30, Giza 111, and H15L17 had higher seed oil content than the other genotypes in both seasons. The number and weight of larvae surviving, as well as the number of pupa survival, were negatively correlated with leaf total phenols and seed oil content. Underestimation of chronic renal dysfunction after liver transplantation: ICEBERG study

AIM: To compare prevalence of chronic renal dysfunction(CRD) according to serum creatinine(sCr) vs estimated glomerular filtration rate(e GFR) among maintenance liver transplant ***: The ICEBERG study was an observational, retrospective, cross-sectional, and multicenter study. Consecutive adult patients(aged 18 years or older) with liver transplantation(LT) performed at least two years previously were recruited. Multi-organ transplant recipients were excluded. Chronic renal dysfunction was defined according to sCr based criteria in routine clinical practice(≥ 2 mg/d L) and eGFR using MDRD-4 equation(< 60 m L/min per 1.73 m2). Agreement between sCr definition and e GFR assessment was evaluated using the Kappa index. Cox regression analysis was applied to identify predictive factors for developing CRD after ***: A total of 402 patients were analyzed(71.6% males). Mean ± SD age at transplant was 52.4 ± 9.8 years. Alcoholic cirrhosis without hepatocellular carcinoma was the most common reason for LT(32.8%). Mean time since LT was 6.9 ± 3.9 years. Based on sCr assessment, 35.3% of patients(95%CI: 30.6-40.0) had CRD; 50.2%(95%CI: 45.3-55.1) according to e GFR. In 32.2% of cases, sCr assessment had underestimated CRD. Multivariate analysis showed the following factors associated with developing CRD: eGFR < 60 m L/min per 1.73 m2 at three months post-transplant [hazard ratio(HR) = 4.76; 95%CI: 2.78-8.33; P < 0.0001]; calcineurin inhibitor use(HR = 2.31; 95%CI: 1.05-5.07; P = 0.0371); male gender(HR = 1.98; 95%CI: 1.09-3.60; P = 0.0260); and ≥ 10 years post-transplantation(HR = 1.95; 95%CI: 1.08-3.54; P = 0.0279).CONCLUSION: Seven years after LT, CRD affected half our patients, which was underestimated by s Cr. An e GFR < 60 m L/min per 1.73 m2 three months post-LT was predictive of subsequent CRD.

Collision metastasis is a rare phenomenon of concomitant localization of 2 or more different tumors in the same lymph *** most cases,primary malignancies are synchronous carcinomas arising in the same organ or area of the body.A 82-year-old man presented with hematuria and acute renal failure;he had undergone dermatological consultation ten months ago because of a large deep brown skin lesion in his dorso-lumbar region,which was not excised upon patient's *** underwent radical cystectomy with extended pelvic lymphadenectomy due to nonpapillary high-grade urothelial carcinoma,with focal squamous features,infiltrating the bladder wall and prostate *** one left iliac lymph node,small foci of metastatic urothelial carcinoma(positive for P63 and CK34betaE12)were close to melanoma cells(positive for HMB45).The patient refused further treatment and died of metastatic disease 12 months after *** is no specific clinical feature for nodal collision metastasis.A polymorphic histologic appearance poses the suspect,but immunohistochemical stains are needed to define the primary *** metastases are thought to carry a poor *** clinical relevance is linked to the fact that the patient faces 2 different metastatic tumors that may require specific multidisciplinary approach once diagnosed as *** present,to the best of our knowledge,the first case of collision nodal metastasis from bladder cancer and melanoma,and describe its clinical and histopathological characteristics to raise awareness on this rare occurrence,which portends a poorer prognosis than each single tumor.

Henry Reaction between Benzaldehyde and Nitromethane over Solid Base Catalysts: A Green Protocol

The development of environmentally benign solid base catalysts instead of the soluble bases for C-C bond formation in organic reactions especially Henry reactions with nitroalkanes compounds is of intense research activity in the bulk and fine chemical chemistry in order to achieve the selectivity of the desired product and the reduction of the salts formed due to soluble bases neutralization. While using of LDHs catalysts in the synthesis of nitro alcohols is of great interest because LDHs (double layered hydroxides) is of unique properties and an excellent catalytic property. The nitroalcohols are obtained in a very good yield while using catalyst either by conventional at 90°C in liquid phase, microwave or sonoenergy without solvent methods, and the results yields are compared. A series of different nitro alcohols from (a - o) were prepared, the catalytic test reaction were carried out using benzaldehyde and their derivatives with nitromethane and their derivatives. A series of LDHs catalysts were prepared also and studying of the catalytic effect on the reactions was carried out. Properties of the compounds prepared were characterized by IR, MNR, and GC-MS.

Automatic Negotiation with Profiles and Clustering of Agents

This paper presents a model of automatic negotiation agents in an open environment. Agents are motivated by the gain they may obtain while fulfilling their goals, but their behaviour can change during negotiation according to previous interactions with other agents in the system. Changing behaviour may refer to either the use of different negotiation strategies or to concessions made for other agents, with which they have successfully negotiated in the past. To this aim, an agent develops a set of partners’ profiles during negotiation: the preference profile, the cooperation profile, and the group negotiation profile. The first two profiles characterize individuals, while in a group negotiation profile, several agent profiles are clustered according to commonly discovered features. Different approaches to the development of these profiles are presented.

Broomcorn millet cultivation in the SW East European Plain since the second millennium BC

The early trans-Eurasian exchange and its influence on the dynamics of human-land relationships is an emerging topic involving multiple disciplines. The southwestern part of the Eastern European Plain was a key hub for early East-West interaction. Broomcorn millet, a crop domesticated in China, was introduced into the region about 3,600 years ago, significantly earlier than in other parts of Europe. This research employs systematic archaeobotanical flotation and AMS radiocarbon dating at two sites in Romania:Baia-?n Muchie and Dobrov??. The findings demonstrate that broomcorn millet cultivation in this region has persisted for over 2,000 years, exhibiting significant diachronic fluctuations. Millet was most intensively utilized during the Late Bronze Age to the Early Iron Age (1200–800 BC) and the Late Roman Empire (AD 250–400), periods which were characterized by rapid climatic changes. It may have been cultivated as a “disaster relief” crop to mitigate the challenges posed by extreme drought and cold. The millet grains from the study area are similar in dimensions to those reported in East Asia;however, grains from the Romanian sites are thinner and longer. The route traversing the Caucasus and the northern Black Sea likely served as a key passage through which millet entered Europe from West Asia. This research provides valuable data on the chronology of millet cultivation in the SW Eastern European Plain and enhances our understanding of early East-West exchanges and their impact on human-environment interactions in critical regions.

Molecular Modeling and Synthesis of New Heterocyclic Compounds Containing Pyrazole as Anticancer Drugs

Several modifications in CA-4 were reported in literature for the development of various tubulin inhibitors. In our study, twenty-two newly synthesized heterocyclic derivatives of Combretastatin A-4 (CA-4) have been tested for their cytotoxic effect on four different types of cells with malignant behavior using CA-4 as a positive control. Compounds 5b, 15 and 16 showed the foremost potent antiproliferative activities as compared to CA-4 with IC50 starting from 6.9 to 13.7 μM. Molecular docking was performed with the crystal structure of tubulin employing a potent tubulin inhibitor CA-4 as a parent molecule. Molecular study advised that 5b, 15, 16 and 17 are promising tubulin inhibitors.

We really appreciated Lin et al.’s“The influence of ^(18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography on the N-and M-staging and subsequent clinical management of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma”in HepatoBiliary Surgery and Nutrition(1).A 291-patient population affected by intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(ICC)was retrospectively analyzed with the aim of assessing the accuracy of preoperative staging and treatment reallocation by ^(18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography(^(18)F-FDG PET/CT)(1).

Biodegradable elastomers are important emerging biomaterials for biomedical applications,particularly in the area of soft-tissue engineering in which scaffolds need to match the physicochemical properties of native ***,we report novel fast photocurable elastomers with readily tunable mechanical properties,surface wettability,and *** elastomers are prepared by a 5-min UV-irradiation of thiol-ene reaction systems of glycerol tripentenoate(GTP;a triene)or the combination of GTP and 4-pentenyl 4-pentenoate(PP;a diene)with a carefully chosen series of di-or *** the subsequent application study,these elastomers were found to be capable of overcoming delamination of myotubes,a technical bottleneck limiting the in vitro growth of mature functional *** glycerol-based elastomers supported the proliferation of mouse and human myoblasts,as well as myogenic differentiation into contractile *** notably,while beating mouse myotubes detached from conventional tissue culture plates,they remain adherent on the elastomer *** results suggest that these elastomers as novel biomaterials may provide a promising platform for engineering functional soft tissues with potential applications in regenerative medicine or pharmacological testing.

Glutamate and Caffeine intake of Some Snacks and Drinks in Saudi Arabia

The aim of this study was to estimate the intake level of glutamate and caffeine from some snacks and drinks. The survey was carried out during 2008 to 2009 in 3 selected governorates (Al-Hassa, Al- Katif and AD-Dammam) localized in the eastern area of Saudi Arabia. The age of study participants (298) was ranged between less than 4 – over 30 years. The snacks and drinks consumption data were gathered and calculated using the frequency methods. Forty nine samples of snacks and beverages were analyzed by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) for glutamate and caffeine contents. The results indicated that total intake of snacks, chocolates and drinks were significantly correlated (spearman r = 0.856, 0.591, 0.943, p = 0.0) with total intake of glutamate and caffeine. The mean of caffeine intake was 40.4± 44.5 mg, while the mean of glutamate intake was 0.134± 0.146 mg. The highest concentration of glutamate was in Pringles with Ketchup (0.420), Bugles Smoking BBQ (0.660) and Indomie with Vegetables (0.860). The high caffeine concentrations of Kit Kat, Ulker and Galaxy samples were 166, 165.5, and 134.5 mg/kg respectively, while the beverages, the high caffeine concentrations were presented in energy drinks like Red bull (345.5), Power Horse (339.0) and Bugzy(333.0) mg/L. The children aged between 4– 8 were the most consumers of snacks which containing glutamate, while the adolescents consumed more chocolates and beverages which containing caffeine. These finding suggests that consumption of salty snacks, and sugar-sweetened beverages is mounting between important categories in the community, so interventions focusing on increasing physical activity and fruit and vegetable consumption will have an impact on obesity control and promoting health.
